Thanks so much for this video, I only heard BG3 when it officially released so this trip into it's history is incredibly interesting to me
Gosh I remember seeing that first trailer and not knowing ANYTHING about DnD or the Baldur's Gate games but being interested in the guard that was turning into a mindflayer, thought it was a horror game and remember looking up the trailer months later to see what it was about and seeing your video being recommended, clicked on it and learned so much about baldurs gate from you, years later im surrounded by wonderful friends from the community and still watching your vids!
When I saw the title during the first teaser, I was like "Oh that's cool". But seeing the Larian logo afterwards made me jump out of bed at 4 in the morning screaming like crazy.
@@syro2412 funny thing is I actually bought Divinity Original Sin a week later and didn't even make the connection that both of them were Larian games 😂
Tip from the other side of the Atlantic : put your meal in a regular plate before you warm your food up. Microwaved heated plastic is not good for you or your food. Please, do it for me. :)
I love videos like this, I've never heard of the game until after it came out where german news article were like: New Hitgame makes you able to customize everything, EVERYTHING. I love seeing the history of video games: the start, the progress, the finished product, just to see how it builds up is so cool and I love this, thank you!
Druid is my favorite D&D class, so when my friend saw online that this game was adding Druid back in the early patches, I HAD to buy the game and play. It’s probably my favorite game of all time now and I just love how the community has grown.
Oh man this takes me back! Loved the early days BG3 hype and how we'd all tune in on ur channel during the panels from hell. It was so awesome to be able to share my excitement with this community and on your channel!🎉 Amazing video, thanks for taking us down memory lane🧡
The Early Access period for BG3 already had WAY more dynamic story content than all of all Destiny 1&2 combined (even all Expansions and DLC). I poured in 30 hours easily and was insanely impressed with BG3 for that initial asking price. Cyberpunk 2077 and CDPR could have benefitted immensely by the same formula.
Oh GODS I miss those skit videos you used to do. We need some of those every so often again. I'll always love Timmy the Tiger, "You talkin to plants again, bro?"
Watching this video feels like I hit the Bong of Nostalgia, duuudee. I started following you even before the 2020 launch and the entire Early Access was an amazing journey together with the Wolfpack. YOu did great, Mr. Wolfheart, even if you didn't milk the franchise after full release like countless other youtubers did, and I am pround of you! Wolves...Together...Strong! All the best, buddy!
I have always felt you've been a part of my traveling party in what became the greatest video game experience I have ever had. Thank you for always being there for us. See you in Baldur's Gate. 😘
As a BG 1 & 2 fan, I was really excited when I saw the announcement trailer for BG3. But it was not until months later, when I found your channel, that the "hype" became real! Thank you for all that you've done since 2019 for BG3, gaming, and the gaming community! Skål!!!
I'll never forget the first Baldurs Gate 3 trailer where the Flaming Fist Guard turned into a Mindflayer. *_" Oh no! These wierd tentacly monsters have killed all of my friends. And I... ... I... ... I AM ONE OF THEM!! "_* °turns while laughing maniacally° Ok it didn't happen like this 😏but it did, in my mind.
So happy for Sven and the ENTIRE Larian team! After finishing Alan Wake 2 I’m On my 2nd playthrough and 1st playthrough as Dark Urge and can’t believe how much different it is from the 1st. Such a staggering achievement.
Oh this should be good :). I was following your channel and really appreciated all the news updates you were giving Wolf. So interesting seeing all the Early Access guys again and realizing how different they look now. This game was really something special. Going to panel from hell must have been so fun
The feeling i get from that bobby Kotick clip is he doenst know or care what those words mean, he probably does, but his delivery is just like a comedy about someone having to pretend to be a competent CEO
This was such a great look back at how fun it was to watch this game develop, but also a look back at how you've been an invaluable person for fans of this game/studio.
This retrospective is awesome. Random, but just a reminder of how awesome the entire VA cast is. I didn't watch many trailers before playing, so I didn't know some of my favorite actors were going to be the villains
I remember first learning about this game. One streamer I watched started a series on it when Early Access released back in 2020... and I was immediately hooked. Bought the game soon after (and started following your channel as well). With this video I've remembered the journey to get here. This has been the first game I've actually followed development for years, and it's been amazing. Can't wait to see what Larian cooks for us next.
What a wholesome journey, I remember watching the reveal trailer back in 2019, but never really followed up on it, what got me to buy it a week after release was a brief sentence in a review I watched: "If you love Dragon Age, this is a must play for you." And sure was, I was so invested in the game's story and characters, something that I hadn't felt in ages, I spent most of my waking hours playing until the very end, what a game, I hope Larian only continues to improve and succeed in their future projects, they deserve the praise.
Such an interesting dichotomy where a studio holds a 'one-room five-dev-team' vibe where in actuality they're hosting 100+ heads. Super grounded. Super cozy,. It's a shame it took so long for Larian to earn its comeuppance!
Hard to believe its been 5 years already... The hype for me was almost as much fun as the game itself. I hadn't been that excited for a game since I was a wee lad reading GameInformer magazines about Skyrim in 2011.
You have no idea how thankful I am for this video! I used to hate games like bg3 but this game made me fall in love with the genre. So because of that I never experienced this, so thank you for this video.
Oh gods the nostalgia! I really, really loved the Panels from Hell. I always made time to watch them and they were always so hype. Also it's funny to think about how back in early EA we didn't have companions jumping with us, so if you find it frustrating now that someone doesn't jump with you.... That used to be the norm for us, you had to jump everyone separately. Also that the food healed as a bonus action before it was turned into camp supplies.
I didn’t hear of Baldur’s Gate 3 before its launch, thank you so much for creating this video for people like me! The development process for games are so special and it’s really cool to see a whole timeline of what came out, let alone how passionate these announcements are. Long live Larian!
What a journey! I wasn’t even here for most of it but it still felt special to me because this channel introduced me to BG3 and now it’s in my top 3 favourite games of all time 🔥♥️ so thanks Wolf for corrupting me 😂 and the Wolfpack community!
Great video! It's been such a cool ride. I know a lot of people hate on games in long early access, but Larian did it right using all our playtesting to create the almost perfect CRPG version of Dungeons and Dragons. It's been so much fun.
Great overview! The anticipation that grew while waiting for release was strong. Larian is the best thing that has happened to gaming in a long time💪👍🙂
Wolf, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this video. Your storytelling is really good. You are the first content creator that I saw when the game first came out. UA-cam pushed you right to the top of the search list. You were the one that gave me that final push from hesitant to. I'm going to play this game and I haven't looked back
Very good summary of the development and early access of BG3 for someone who missed it all, but became huge fan of the game from Aug 2023. It is crazy how much it has improved since the launch.
This is a heck of a throwback journey, wolf. Only been a few years but it feels much longer. Crazy that not so long ago we were just speculating with you about what the Absolute symbol meant. Really appreciate the retrospective angle to review all the speculations and theorizing we as a community went through during EA. Way to sneakily bring us a cameo of Jimmy too! Bravo 🍺
BG3 for me was a life experience, similar when I saw LotR movies for the first time. After my 110h campaign, I shed a couple of tears... for a 36 year old grown man, that is a lot.
honestly can't even believe how much thought and care went into the buildup and release for this game, especially in today's modern gaming era. thanks for the recap Wolf, here's to many more years with BG3 and beyond!
I especially enjoyed your analysis of the various trailers for BG3. You'd stop the film every half-second and zoom in on a small detail we would have easily missed. I was leaning forward in my seat during those videos! The anticipation was palpable. I bought a new computer just to play BG3. When I finally heard the narrator of the game asking me, "Who are you?" I almost cried! BG3 was the perfect game for you to launch your own career. I've thoroughly enjoyed your videos!
What a ride, it was so much fun! I hope Larian stays in the Forgotten Realms with its next game and follows the same recipe they used for BG3 with keeping the community informed (the Panel's From Hell were fun) and listening to player feedback.
A friend of mine got the game for me on release day, but I managed to dodge absolutely all news about it until the actual release date. I played it completely blind on release, which I suspect was the best possible way to play it. Cool to see all of this stuff in retrospect though.
thanks for this video. As someone who added this game during early access, but stayed away from any information because I wanted to go in fresh on release. This was great!
i wasn't able to play the EA of BG3 since i don't have a PC so seeing all the changes that happened in this video is so interesting. and wow all the quality of life tweaks they did!
When I pre-ordered this game, I can't remember like 2019, I knew this game was going to be great. It just really evoked origins to me, so I knew it would be amazing, I didn't know it would be so successful though. I hope that makes works like this more common.
15:30 "Sven in BG3 movie looking set". Weren't Panels from Hell loosely connected to certain place in Avernus? First set has plenty of similarities to how the dining hall in Raphael's House of Hope looks in the game.
Aw, actually brought a little tear to me eye. It's properly heartening that a company who actually gives a damn about their product and their target consumers has accumulated so many accolades and the game is doing so well. Take that souless share-holder driven executive hellscapes!
I found Wyll a lot more appealing during EA. The voice actor change is fine, but I was more interested where his story would go. Now granted part of that is probably cause the story wasn't finished yet, so I could speculate about just that. But even then, just the little we had to go off intrigued me more than most aspects of Wyll's story now. I imagined meeting his family in Baldur's Gate, and them most likely just being a bunch of assholes. I thought about finally rescuing and meeting Mizora in Moonrise Towers after she had been built up so much in act 1, and how she would interact with Wyll, especially romanced Wyll since there were hints that their relationship might have been more intimate. Wyll as he is now is in my opinion just a touch too tragic, he did nothing wrong when he signed the pact with Mizora, Tiamat would have destroyed Baldur's Gate, and he can't say anything about it. It's just a bummer, I feel like there is nothing more to engage beyond that, besides telling Ravenguard about, it just ends there. Also, it feels a bit weird to me how much Wyll still hates goblins, yeah they are evil but like he disapproves of you stepping in when Arka is about to Sazza, who is completely defenseless. Seems really out of character for a good guy. But in EA it was more motivated given that it was goblins that caused his biggest defeat, took his eye and part of what led him to sign his pact with Mizora. Not to say final release Wyll is all bad, I love his friendship with Karlach, and that is something that wouldn't have worked in the same way with his character as it was in EA. I think he could be better if Larian just gave him a little more attention. It feels like he and the characters around him and his story just lack a lot of content and reactivity, adding some more could go a long way for Wyll. I feel like I am rambling, but I seriously have a hard time letting it go even though I know that EA Wyll won't ever come back. It has at least taught me not to get too attached to a story when a game is in Early Access because it can completely change.
A big thank you to Larian Studios, BG3 and you Wolfheart, I have met many friends and great people along the journey, I'm very grateful for that. Thank you for being here for us! 🎉❤😊
Great to hear this for me because I paid no attention until a month after full release. The game is a masterpiece but its interesting that some of the bugs in EA like companions not jumping to follow came back after some patches … and the Camp Inventory is now less finished than at release. But I will still go for my third Honor Mode run.
Started watching you just over 3 years ago solely for the BG 3 hypetrain... now I just default to your streams and videos because you are just a badass!
My only complaint is that I didn’t get involved in this game earlier. Unfortunately, I didn’t start playing until release, but since then, I have definitely loved this game. As my 2000~ hours played can attest. lol
Here we are. The Journey is done. Now waiting for sequel or actual DLC. Ice Wind Dale or even Neverwinter Nights or heck even a never before seen Waterdeep could be nice.
I loved EA. The anticipation was unreal. The PFH’s were such fun and your videos kept us going. I’m not a big gamer so EA was an easy and accessible way to learn a complex game. My family even delved into TTRPG through D&D and Pathfinder while waiting for the games full release. Thanks Wolf for all the work you have done over the years 😊
Wow the nostalgia i got from watching this video is insane lol! Bg3 was 100% worth the wait, truly a legendary game with an even more legendary company! Thank you for another amazing video Wolf! ❤
What an amazing Journey. To be honest it is not my type of game, but hearing what this independent studio achived encouraged me to buy the game. 271.2 hrs of play later, I dont regret this decision.
One of the many things that took forever to evolve into a pretty good mechanic is STEALTH. I used to laugh waaaaay back in EA how you could sneak behind an enemy and REPEATEDLY stab them in the back while right behind them w/o any worries. I worried for a very long time that stealth would be forever broken and exploited. I still have some personal peeves with stealth as it is.. but nothing like in the EA days (: If I had the storage space and had archived earlier versions I could probably make an amusing vid of the evolution stealth. (I made a vid of stealth waaay back).
I have started with patch 4 to play early access and i think at thise times i found your channel, Wolfheart! And i am so happy i did both 😊 this is indeed an amazing game that is still getting updates and patches. I hope that Larian may do a true DLC for it in the future. Larian became the best game developer/publisher in gaming world in my opinion surpassing Bioware with their DA series. Though i still love DA origins very much!. I hope Larian stays true to itself for all times.❤ ❤❤❤
Sad that some major plots didnt get into final bcus of low time, like Gortash not being in upper city and some other things. But now we can see it did go extremely bad for Starfield, if Larian just had waited a year. lol.
What a refreshing review of the journey of the game, luckily I was able to follow game and this channel for most of this! Let us take a moment to thank WolfheartFPS for all the years of wonderful coverage and at times being the source of calm when somethings in EA seemed to spell doom. Great channel and great community, for an amazing game - much appreciated!
BG3 is my game of the decade and I think only GTA6 will come close. So much replayability too as we all know. Its going to be timeless and one of those games you'll always go back to. That being said, I'm super curious what Larians next project will be. No doubt it'll be another top notch game.

It was worth the wait. It was worth buying in early access as well. Swen gives me the old-school, game-dev vibe where passion is the driving force, which is nice to see in this day and age.
Swen is a programmer, and also written himself for the games they made. You gotta respect the owner and exec who actually did a job for which is his company is hiring for now, and not just some "effective manager" suit going around and telling people what to do.
In some way Todd Howard has the same down to earth vibes because he was also a programming nerd@@nickrubin7312

It has indeed been a magnificent time. Thanks for taking me and others on your runs!
thanking for coming along grumpy
Nice touch switching the titles on the BG3 v DOS2 comparison 🤣
hahaha it was a genuine mistake. Funny one to make though :-D
Larian have the humour and chaos of a drunk dnd party but the skills of a min maxed party.
Thanks for putting this together Wolfheart! The look back came out great, and I appreciate the content.
Thanks for watching c0re
A big thank you to Larian Studios, BG3 and you Wolfheart, I have met many friends and great people along the journey, I'm very grateful for that. Thank you for being here for us! 🎉❤😊
Thanks so much Fate! You have been and continue to be a valued member of this community.
Great to hear this for me because I paid no attention until a month after full release. The game is a masterpiece but its interesting that some of the bugs in EA like companions not jumping to follow came back after some patches … and the Camp Inventory is now less finished than at release. But I will still go for my third Honor Mode run.
Awww thanks for the video! It brought a smile to my face
Started watching you just over 3 years ago solely for the BG 3 hypetrain... now I just default to your streams and videos because you are just a badass!
SKAL Ben Appreciate you
Great vid! As someone who was very in and our of BG3 history and timeline throughout the lifecycle, this was a fun watch.
Thanks Marf!!
My only complaint is that I didn’t get involved in this game earlier. Unfortunately, I didn’t start playing until release, but since then, I have definitely loved this game. As my 2000~ hours played can attest. lol
Really enjoyable video, thank-you for taking the time to put it together!
I hope with baldurs gate 3, we see more more for baldurs gate on the infinity engine.
Here we are. The Journey is done. Now waiting for sequel or actual DLC. Ice Wind Dale or even Neverwinter Nights or heck even a never before seen Waterdeep could be nice.
Whatever they announce next is going to be major hype
I loved EA. The anticipation was unreal. The PFH’s were such fun and your videos kept us going. I’m not a big gamer so EA was an easy and accessible way to learn a complex game. My family even delved into TTRPG through D&D and Pathfinder while waiting for the games full release. Thanks Wolf for all the work you have done over the years 😊
I agree about EA being a nice way to learn the game! Love to hear about your family jumping into TTRPG. Thanks Shonna
If I remember correctly, Larian said that they were maybe released in a year so that's what I've been waiting for.
One of the great things about Swen is he takes the game very seriously but doesn't take himself seriously, which makes him more relatable.
Well said
This came out on my 18th birthday. I will never forget that wonderful day
👍
Legendary summary! Thanks Wolf!
Thanks for watching
Really good video Mr.Wolf. I fell in love with this game as soon as I saw it and I am happy to know more about the story behind its creation.
thanks!
297 hours in, I think this is the best game I've ever played. Compares favourably to both BG and Torment and nwn
I still have some personal peeves with stealth as it is.. but nothing like in the EA days (:
If I had the storage space and had archived earlier versions I could probably make an amusing vid of the evolution stealth.
Thx Wolf for this amazing journey through time
This was a masterpiece, thanks!
Thanks Malgus. Great to see your name in the comments.
BG3 is my game of the decade and I think only GTA6 will come close. So much replayability too as we all know. Its going to be timeless and one of those games you'll always go back to.
That being said, I'm super curious what Larians next project will be. No doubt it'll be another top notch game.
Grandma June!!!!!!!!!!! =o) nice little trek down memory lane of BG3.
Thanks for coming along for the ride Dragon!
Damn that secret sauce factor intro was 10 out of 10 😀 Great video as always. Still in love with the channel and the content!
