"We don't have shareholders, but we also don't think about them" For those of you who are confused bc Tencent owns 30% of Larian, in the EU they have no voting power (they have preferred stock and not common stock, only the latter having voting power). It's a complicated topic, that had to be simplified for the speech. Of course no one can guarantee staying free of influence, but I guess this statement is a commitment to never bow to external shareholders. I trust Larian to hold that promise (as long as the current execs stay on top).
They've certainly held to that standard thus far. As far as developers go they've set a precedent on how to conduct yourself as far as I'm concerned. They are about the one AAA company I *don't* worry about.
@@CharlsonCKim due to how successful they are i dont see a future where theyre bought out. That term is usually reserved for companies that cant keep the lights on, while Larian has likely secured their company for the forseeable future (assuming they keep this standard of quality). I also dont see Swen or anyone else willingly selling the company
I wouldn't DARE get upset at Larian for patching bugs from their game even if it causes problems. I come from the world of installing the unofficial Skyrim patch from nexusmods every time I play Skyrim, because bethesda game studios considers it unnecessary to patch bugs from the game that provided their childrens children with a passive income for life.
@SordidusFellatio They're not woke, they just don't like blatantly sexist, homophobic, transphobic content on their site. Which is valid, they're not really taking a side, they're just opposing content that pushes people away.
People are okay not owning films and music, though. Not saying it's the right way to go, but it's quite odd that people suddenly care about owning stuff. Convenience tend to triumph.
People aren't okay not owning films and music they bought. At least no one I know is. If I buy an album, I expect to own it. If I buy a movie, I expect to own it.
Modding support is basically opening the floodgates. It means BG3 could become the CRPG version of what Skyrim represents. It means that even content mods with new quests or campaigns might become possible.
I doubt they’ll get any more praise of recognition after their recent display of narcissism at Game Awards and now DICE. How disrespectful was that to shit on the industry that gave you awards like that? I hope no one works with them again and Hasbro revoke their DnD license.
@@lilithdvs13 They shit on the industry because the industry is shit. It deserves a slap in the face. Maybe (though not likely) if these garbage companies like EA, Blizzard, Bethesda, Microsoft, etc. see how well Larian is doing because they don't do all of these shitty business practices, they might stop doing them. Not likely, but we can dream. Alternatively, if consumers see that they don't have to accept companies acting like this, the companies will lose money, go out of business, and better companies can be formed from the remnants.
@@lilithdvs13this vitriolic response needs further explanation. What about the things they said were outrageous? Do you disagree with the things they said? You know that narcissism is a condition that affects people, right?
Good to know there are game awards where the winners are actually allowed to speak at instead of being rushed off the stage cause they need more time for ads.
It honestly sounds toxic AF. This industry raised you up and gave you an award and you shit on the people who raised you like that? I hope Larian gets blackballed and no one works with them again. They have one successful game and let it go to their head. But now they showed their true colors.
My friend and I are going MP and noticed more bugs with the last patch. We were both getting mildly frustrated, nothing huge, but then we laughed and realized how complex the game was, and how smooth our entire experience has been. We also both knew that Larian would get them fixed - a great feeling to have.
Yep. I am troubled by not being able to delete past MP random players out of the wardrobe from my playthrough so more could create their own characters and join in. It's annoying but I also know Larian will take care of it. It's called faith based on prior actions.
Larian speeches are important. Happy they have big platforms to speak on now. Also stoked for that mod support! @@az-cv1ql I’m so addicted lol played bg3 early access when it came out and it got me hooked on all things D&D. So much so I went back and played the first 2 baldurs gates games and neverwinter series and put a few hundred hours into each one. I already have pathfinder kingmaker and WOTR loaded up for when I need a little break from bg3 :D
@@fiftydabs5114 omg I don't even want to think my hour count if I'd known about this game in EA xD it's my first crpg! I also have the pathfinder games, and dos2, ready to go but I keep thinking of new builds to try in bg3. It's certainly addictive lol.
@@az-cv1qlWelcome to the wormhole. UA-cam doesn't help, or it might, because I am always watching videos about new classes and builds I want to run through the entire story with. Also all the things I missed that keep popping up every week when someone discovered how a single little item or interaction can turn into a huge reward.
I got stuck in the crèche and yes I was angry BUT Larian is such a fantastic company that I can’t be for long. They straight up realized the errors and fixed them in like a week. It’s wild how fantastic this company is.
I’ve always wanted to play dungeons and dragons but never had the nerdy friends that are similar to me and didn’t know any local places to play. Baldurs Gate 3 has made me want to play dungeons and dragons even more after playing this game so much. This game is everything I have ever wanted in a game.
I know its hard and there are some horror stories but if you truly want to get into tabletop, there are good ways. Facebook and other forums are the best way to get into contact with D&D groups. Good luck.
@@SonGokuSleepTherapyLarian never does DLC or expansions for their games. They release the base game, then a definitive edition update that everyone gets for free, then they move on. If DLC does happen, it would be because of a WotC mandate and it probably wouldn't be very good.
I work as a dev for a company in the software as a service -field. Our customers pay a monthly subscription fee and they expect us to continue to develop the service, to add to it, to polish it, to continue making sure the stuff they need works and is secure etc. We have a release cycle of two weeks, every two weeks we see a new production build. Anyone who works in SAAS knows this is a pretty standard way to operate a business. I can’t imagine continuing the developement after the product is ”done and sold” unless the development is aimed at the ”next sellable release” Sure Bg3 is still sold, there are still players to reach so it’s not like they’re working for free now but damn, they’re essentially using their biggest product ever as a way to make a shitton of money AND as a loss leader paving the way for the next big Larian release. They’re essentially making sure bg3 can stand up against the test of time and future competition while accumulating a recordbreaking amount of tangible, global, public trust. Heck of a company
100% agree with what David Walgrave said (Larian's head of production) at the DICE Awards : fidelity, respect and trust from your clients (or community) is what really pays in the end. He hits the nail that is the mistake of trying to please short term sharks among shareholders.
I'm glad that the gaming community is rewarding developers like Larian Studios. I think the industry will continue to shift more towards developers like them.
Great video Wolfster! I didn't know anything about these awards and if it wasn't for your video, I would not have heard these speeches (which were really great) So thank you very much!
When i saw David make his speech, 1 BILLION% agree! It actually shows larian cares about us gamers through their updates/fixes/mod support. It’s sad other companies don’t do this. I absolutely LOVE Larian studios and wish them nothing but the best!!!.. and I’m sure like a lot of us gamers can’t wait for their next big project announcement!! With great anticipation
No Larian don’t care about gamers. Most gamers who buy their games are straight white men. If they actually cared about their gamers they wouldn’t make it such a woke mess of propaganda.
I hope Larian builds other stories, exploring Fearun further. E.g the genie in the circus, the weapon you get out unlocks a quest to get you going to calimnshan/calimport. Underdark passages that leads you to a drow town with issues. Items, books particular that lead you down and search for items of power from the former netherese empire. The return of the shadovar and shade enclave returns.. endless opportunities!
Larian is truly legendary. They deserve all the support and love they're getting. And the fact that they listen to the community, work to fix things like they say they will, and understand how much this game means to people make it that way. Bless them. Wish them continuous creativity and success for the future.
I met them once when i was still working at Daedalic .. was just a small hello and noding to each other while working on Night of the Rabbit during my last year in the University. Played all games from them before that (I'm a great RPG Fan) .. but .. never.. NEVER would have thought, they will be making BG3 .. and that it will become such a Megahit! .. Absolutly deserverd. Every Vid and Statement they make is a absoult win and putting the AAA Industry in their place. I love this company to bits!
Never have I ever loved a game development studio like Larian is shaping up to be. They are incorporating all of THE BEST qualities of game devs, and I am ALL here for it!!!
cant wait for you to check out Mods bud You know I have been a long time watcher of the channel and player of BG3. The mods breath so much more life in to the game Even if your just running 5e spells and some sub classes (def recommend Dimension Traveler Wizard) it really beefs up the game also after 2k hours between EA and Release and PC and PS5 i just finished the game for the first time. Saw you in the credits and brought a little tear to my eye. Love Larian and appreciate how dedicated you have been to this game. Keep up all the great work
I dont have any illusion about Larian, they are a large business, doing large business stuff. But I also dont doubt the fact that they are as genuine as large businesses can be with their game/fanbase and I am so thankful for it, lets hope their executives dont take the 'Ubisoft route'. One of my fav studios out there for sure, alongside CDPR and Warhorse.
I can't wait to see what larian will do especially as I'll have a ps5 sometime this month wish me and my dad luck on our BG3 run he's never played but i wanted a game to co op with him and BG3 came out soon after that thought!
@6:52 "Eerlijkheid duurt het Langst." It'd translate that as honesty has the longest shelf life, or maybe honesty/openness requires the least maintenance.
I've played through BG3 several times and this patch has prob been the most buggy for me but that's largely because of the mods I use. It's something ppl need to go in understanding if they use em. It may be frustrating when it happens but the fact they actually respond to the feedback and even attempt to remedy these issues deserves every bit of respect from me. We've been spoiled with this game and I think Larian deserves nothing less than our support, patience, and understanding for doing MORE with this game at the time of release than the majority "insert company" has done their entire games' lifespans. Congrats to the entire crew. 🎉
This was exactly what i know happens with mods and active patches. I'm with you Wolf...I'll wait until official Mod support is good to go! Larian is the Best Fan Supportive Video company in the World!!
Mac and PC players not being able to play together for weeks after every patch is probably the biggest BS though. Super frustrating have to take a month break every time a patch comes out for different version errors. If it wasn’t for that the game would be flawless.
The first speech that you showed is why Larian has such a massive following. Oddly enough, this was the same outlook/vision and motto that Bioware had prior to selling out to EA. It is both fitting and a relief that Larian picked up the torch of "games by gamers for gamers for the love of the game" especially for BG3. Whether it is realized or not, Larian is the hope for the future of the gaming industry. I truly am excited for the next project that Larian works on and will continue to enjoy BG3 until the next game's release. Thanks Wolfheart for your hard work on these videos and getting the information out there to as many people as possible.
At least they're supportive of mods. Unlike a certain company that randomly releases pointless updates for an 11-year-old game that don't fix anything appreciable, but break all the mods.
I hope this means that there will be dialogue or story beat changes when you mod in the other races! right now there is no change to the game by adding in other races with mods!
So the DICE awards DON'T have overextended previews, hollywood stuff or cringey comedy? GOOD! Here's the way I look at mods: I love mods in general, and if games have mod support, or even just allow mods period, that's awesome. However, I feel a game that doesn't NEED mods is ideal. Let me explain: If I can play through a game without any mods, and in doing so, I feel like nothing is missing in terms of quality of life or basic features or stuff that helps a game stand on it's feet, then that's a win. I played through Baldur's Gate 3 with no mods my first run through, and I had a blast. Sure, I understand that some classes feel a bit underbaked and some spells could be more fun, but the way everything worked in the base game didn't impede my joy for it. That said, when mod support comes along, I'll be looking for mods that I WANT to use. Not NEED, just WANT. Mods that are NEEDED are essentially mods that "fix" what the devs didn't, and while I'm not against those mods, mods that you can use if you want, but aren't needed to enjoy the game are the best mods to use. I mean, think about the number of complaints people have about Starfield, about Skyrim, about other games that, fun as they are, just don't feel feature complete even after release. Now think about the mods made to cover those bases. Pretty much writes itself. So yeah, Larian could've just outright said they won't support mods and I wouldn't have cared. The mods made so far do add a lot of options, but I wouldn't lose sleep over not having them. Instead, they said they'll not only get things going for their next big patch, but even talk with actual modders. A lot of people like to talk about the worst gaming company of the year, but if there was a place to elect the BEST gaming company of the year, Larian would have my vote in a heartbeat.
Holy shit, that first speech was one of the best speeches I’ve heard at a game award. Just so matter a fact delivery, and they already made good on every word. Absolutely goated
It's really interesting to see how badly some of the mod authors are behaving. We who are old enough, remember the days of modding Skyrim, which launched LONG before their mod tools. And each and every update broke the skyrim script extender. And it would be the smallest update, with no patch notes lol. It really leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I will never use the mods that were signed in that letter. Larian has been pushing out massive patch after massive patch. Adding a ton of content. It's a massive slap to the face of Larian what the mod authors are doing.
I'm pretty upset. This is clearly a really amazing game. But I am sick of the difficulty. I don't want to learn a million lower details in different intricate subsystems. I just want to get in the game kill some goblins and hopefully get to bauldrs gate eventually.
I don't think people are accurately acknowledging just how badly patch 6 broke the game. In all honestly the only really distracting bug I'd encountered pre-patch 6 was that some NPC models wouldn't load in properly and they'd be just clay figures, but for the most part that was it, and that was mainly only in Act 3, but after patch 6 literally EVERYTHING feels like it's falling apart...half the time I'm amazed the game runs at all because it always feels like it's a second away from imploding on itself; - The lag is somehow worse - The shopping bug (while improved drastically) STILL takes about a second to load up the inventory and gold count, which for that one second freaks the hell outa me - Dialogue gets cut off WAY more now than it did before - Combat lags really slowly now for some reason if you're fighting like ten people (which it never did before patch 6 for me) - Ally AI pathing seems to have gotten worse where they now seem to blatantly walk into revealed traps on a regular basis when before it was only a minor occurrence - Perception checks happen WAY later now where a trap doesn't reveal itself until after I'm already standing on top of it (yes even when I'm WALKING) These are just SOME of the new bugs that I've noticed since patch 6 released, and I've heard of even worse ones that are STILL an issue even after two hotfixes (I hear the progression ending Act 2 bug is still here, which is mind boggling. You'd think that one would be super high on Larian's list, not requiring more than two hotfixes to clear up). The thing that's shocking is that it isn't like there are a handful of game breaking bugs...it's more that patch 6 has introduced so many small bugs that it's actually diminished the enjoyment of the game. I absolutely LOVED act one and two, but the fact that since patch 6 I need to save-scum like three or four times an hour because of something the GAME did wrong is incredibly aggravating. It's clear Swen made the wrong choice to leave only a skeleton crew working on the game while he and the rest of the team move on to the next project. BG3 is just too broken to trust a small group of people to fix. He should have waited until the game was in a FAR better state before moving on to the next step. Without question these post release patches that are breaking the game more are affecting the reputation of the game. I'm currently taking a break from the game until some progress is made on it because atm it's just not worth the frustration, which sucks because I was really close to the end. I just can't push myself to play anymore until the game gets to a playable state. EDIT: While I acknowledge that Larian is one of (if not THE most) consumer friendly devs in the business right now, I don't believe that justifies shielding them from the rare poor decisions they do end up making. It feels as if a LOT of people are letting Larian off easy with these patch disasters simply because they're not (atm) overcome with corporate greed. For sure I give Larian their due credit for their consumer-friendly practices and their passion for delivering revolutionary games, but patch 6 was just too faulty to let them off the hook. There's absolutely NO way they didn't know how broken it was. There's just too many little things wrong that they simply couldn't have missed them. The fact that they released it in this state knowing it was a dumpster fire is absolutely something they should be called out on and something they shouldn't be encouraged to continue doing. The fact that they address issues relatively quickly means nothing as far as I'm concerned. Release a patch when it's ready, simple as that. Test it extensively, and if they don't have enough people working on the post release content then Swen's just gonna have to bite the bullet and bring more of the team back. The fact of the matter is BG3 is just too big for a skeleton crew to fix. It just can't be done...unless he intends this one skeleton crew to be working on these game "fixing" patches for the next ten years...
Larian I swear is the best gaming company on Earth right now. Every other company seems very greedy compared to them. Anyway, i'm extremely hyped for mod support. But I'll be disappointed if Sony makes it limited like they did for Skyrim and Fallout 4. 😞
Happy for those enjoy mods, personally I hate how half of them are nsfw and/or creepy weeb stuff. If you have ever tried navigating steam workshop, you know what I am talking about.
I don't have mods, but a dream mod for this game would be adding the default Dark Urge (white dragonborn sorcerer) to the game. Preferably as a companion, but even a boss would be nice. There isn't enough dragonborn content in the game (not even Hirelings) which is sad for the year of the dragon Mods on a game are a great way to extend its life like Skyrim
Lots of the racial bonuses are lost. My friend tried to make his Paladin Dragonborn in BG3 and said that he started over because he was missing out in comparison to our DnD play through. I wish Larian would allow Lvl 20 characters.

How would a group of modders pull that off, though? They'd need to hire a VA for the voice work and it's not like it's just a few lines - you're talking probably at least a small novel's worth of dialogue. Not to mention facial animations. I honestly believe the reason there's no dragonborn companion (and why you can't make the dream visitor a dragonborn) is because of how difficult it is to model decent looking facial animations for them versus the humanoid races.
i’ve only played Latin games for the past year of my life and it’s gotten me back into being passionate about gaming. I’m so glad that they exist and they’re making art for all of us to enjoy.
I'm not sure that Mod support is going to "make the game more popular." Perhaps a little, but I'd question if most consumers would decide to buy or not buy the game of the year based on whether or not it supports mods. What solid mods will do is extend the longevity, for most consumers. And yes, I realize that there are some people whom mods are the make or break decision for them. I just don't see that being 500K to 2.5M people newly buying the game. I see it more as the 5M to 25M people who already bought BG3, they will now play the game even more.
i know we prolly wont get another game from larian for awhile but i cant wait to see their next release. i been playing their games since the first divinity and im so happy to see the studio ive grown and loved myself get the recognition they so desperately disserved
Honestly the only issue I've had with the recent patch was Minthara always mentioning the Emperor. But otherwise I'm hyped for official mod support since there's huge potential for a lot more cool things like custom spells, clothing, maybe even companions.
Humble confidence and customer focused - those are the qualities that I see Larian exhibit the most. Thanks for sharing this Wolf. I completely missed the Dice Awards this year.
Larian sounds well-founded in their opinion. They have high social skills and have also expanded their technical skills over the years. Most companies focus primarily on taking less risk and making money. You know, companies are like cars, they focus solely on driving to the nearest gas station where they can fill up their car instead of driving to the next cool and fun destination between gas stations, lol.
The thing is, Larian did start to move on that path, with Divinity II (Not Original Sin 2), they made something of an action RPG, deviating a lot from their past to suit modern trends (Or perhaps just experiment) and whatnot. And after that, with its expansion and further stuff, they almost went bankrupt, because it wasn't commercially successful. Then they decided to just, go for a passion project, with Divinity Original Sin. Risk it all for something they really want to make. And since then, they've been doing that, making a game they WANT to make, how they want to make it, and it's been absolutely incredible 3 times in a row, now.
And you know what? If they WOULD do some kind of Skin pack to buy (more Hair, make up, clothes-not Armour etc.) I WOULD buy it, just to give them support! Because they deserve this
Unfortunately Larian is just about the only bigger studio with this position.. And with most bigger studios being backed by shareholders their only intent is to make them the most money and care about creating a fantastic game last.. Not sure anything will ever change.. I'm afraid it is getting worse. It is a shame that many other studios also have very passionate and talented people and just get laid off because their publisher and shareholders feels they want more money..... makes me sick.
yeah i got layed off as well :< hard to find work atm in the game industry. will continue to hone my skills and hope someone will find worth while to hire me. go larian!
I'm not interested in mods, but that commitment (if carried forward) shows such are for the community that I'm down to get any new game or DLC they release. It shows the kind of commitment that means I WANT TO give them my gaming dollars. Hell, they could release a fortnite-like and I'd probably buy it despite not being into games like that at all.
We need ACT 3 optimisations before we need mod support. right now the performance in Act 3 is unacceptable. The rest of the game is incredible and well optimised and smooth. Who cares about crowd NPC's that offer nothing to the game when they destroy any and all enjoyment because of their performance hit. My PC is a beast but the game engine it's self can't handle Act 3. Please bring the performance of Act 3 in line with he rest of my favourite game.
Modding will make this game last for a long long time. Its a recipe for prolonged success if it's embraced. I love how normal Larian are. There is basically no bullshit & that's so damn refreshing.
I will forever love Larian Studios for giving the gaming community what they want, they’ve shown time and time again that they are reliable and caring for their community. Bg3 has been and probably will be my favorite game for not only it being the best story, gameplay, characters I’ve ever played but also them hearing the players out and putting those things into their game.
Awww this is so nice to see. I WISH I could see Swen's face when he said "I wouldn't have given it to Larian" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm so damn happy for them, they deserve every award and more. I'm definitely not tired of the game, after 3 YEARS of playing it almost non stop. I AM forcing myself to have a break to play some Nightingale though, because after completing HM I don't *want* to burn out. It's tough! I keep starting to log into BG3 and have to force myself not to 😅 It's just THAT good.
IMO Bungie is the ONLY big dev team to have done live service right with destiny 1. They used live service for hotfixes, patches, gameplay balancing and ADDITIONAL CONTENT! Bungie made like 4-5 DLCs that were additional content in their own almost another side game that attaches to he main game. Was a great time, they only brought in micro transactions with destiny 2 and subsequently that was around the same time where the bungie devs quit. You know the creators pf our favorite bungie titles like halo 1-3 and destiny 1. Those devs jumped ship as soon as micro transactions came into the picture. Sadly this was one of the few times live service was used properly. Now its used to update the shops for new skins to buy for the same boring gameplay loop. Yay!
Blizzard used to be "by gamers for gamers" until they got big, until other ppl that didn't play games stuck their dikk in the pie. Look how good they were back in wc3 days, wrath of the lich king, and I belive SC2 was the start of their downfall. Activision used to be the best place for awsome games back in the ps1/ps2 days then corpo came and wanted thair dikk in that pie... (Tony hawk games anyone) CDPR is the latest proof with the fall from witcher 3 too cyberpunk 2077(witch they have redeemed somewhat now) I can go on and on. What I am saying is let the game industry be "by gamers for gamers" that 💩 works according to history
Larian is very quickly becoming my favorite game studio. Cdpr lost my respect with cyberpunk, Bethesda lost my respect for... We'll pick a thing any thing. Rockstar lost my respect with shark cards, and nerfing so many heists to the point of irrelevance. Larian, thank you.
People always saying oh this is why I still have hope! Games have been progressively getting better as you’d expect. There is no RPG better than Baldurs Gate 3 and that is case in point. I know Morrowind had more Hardcore RPG aspects to it but overall Skyrim was still the better game. Elder Scrolls Online is Amazing. Mass Effect 2 is better than 1. Uncharted 2 is better than 1. 4 is better than 2. Outlast Trials is better than 2. Resident Evil 4 is better than 1 & 2. GTA 6 will be better than 5. Mafia 2 is better than 1. Red Dead Redemption 2 is better than 1. There is just large gaps in time between the next installments in games and sometimes they don’t hit the mark but usually the one after is even better. So because of these large gaps in time between games people are saying oh I lost hope but quite literally no hope is lost. Games have only gotten better. People truly have Nostalgia blinders on!
EA or Ubisoft or Activison can't make these talks because they are advertising companies who produce market platforms for selling microtransactions. It would be like Shell or BP promoting electric cars and talking against oil industry. Their entire business model is based against on what Larian devs are talking about. A mod is just a microtransaction you could be selling but instead people having access to for free. "A popular mod" must be making them furious. Activision would want to pop a "no habitable region penalty dlc" for 5 bucks but those goddamn modders unfortunately make mods about that to Total War Warhammer. A lot of money lost. This is what Larian talks against. This is a Don Quixote move, i wish them luck on this path. They will probably fail to walk the line but one can hope.
Well, Ubisoft weren't an evil company before sort of the first Assassin's creed game. By the time of AC2, Ubis had built their pipeline completely and were already chopping off games' endings to sell those as a paid DLC. EA used to be the most annoying game publisher like 20 years ago. I don't imply here that this is where Larian could go, we just simply don't know that
"Every Time a Patch comes out there is a Chance Mods stop working" You wanna say the best Way of "getting rid of Modders" as many Studios want to would be "caring for the Game" as well instead of implementing Programs that make Games worse for that?? * shocked Pikachu Face *
3:56 Larian doesn't have to care about mods, but I think they do because the mods they mentioned (classes, spells and certain mechanics) aren't just about changing the game, but about features they probably wanted to implement (and that D&D players miss) but didn't because the game was too big already. Realistically speaking (even from a business standpoint) I don't know why official mod support isn't a standard practice in the industry: they just make the game even more appealing.
I wish these updates were optional. I play on console, so no mods, and it went from never having bugs to constant bugs. Which included all my save files being corrupted ("deprecated" was the term the game used), 160 hours lost. This isn't early access where releasing a patch that breaks the game and then hotfixing it back into working order is acceptable. I'm not saying this makes Larian a bad studio. But I am saying it was a pretty big blunder, one that isn't OK, one that shouldn't be repeated and one people have the right to be angry about.
On supporting the mods/modders/modding... Could centralization be a problem? Nexus mods, for example, takes down mods made under pressure of vocal minorities over unbalanced and one-sided hypocritical supports (gender swapping a lesbian NPC to be a male instead). If a community believes in that then it serves there interests and their views, but clearly anyone who wanted themselves represented and their own fantasies supported are SOL when that central control point cares about select groups instead of general principles. I don't want to talk about the politics of Nexus mods, rather the purpose of mods and modders being to serve whatever the players want modded and a wide variety of different communities. If it's centralized it is viewed as a battleground for the mainstream and voices granted privilege to influence that or be represented in that, if it's not centralized then it seems to me that it serves its original purpose more purely. Larian seems to struggle in straddling the fence most of the time. After they massively expanded their company it seems like more political interest got on board... and at the same time there's enough to support arguments that Act 2 and 3 steeply declined quality. Sven himself can only keep his hand on the reins for so long and the same people who would crucify Gary Gygax, for example, seem to have gotten inside... can they be trusted to keep up principles supporting the true spirit of modding without allowing influence of the sort that seeks to make everything political to pour too much into what they are forging... almost like "cruelty, malice, and will to dominate all mods". I'd rather see modding for BG3, and elsewhere, keep an attitude more like what Gandalf had. Not Sauron. Otherwise just don't have the centralized power, thanks.
You know it's sad when statements made by game makers like "if you buy the game you own it" get applause. That's...NORMAL! And yet it isn't somehow. This industry is weird like that.
Omg modding support is just launching this already legendary game into the great beyond (don't quite know whats better then legendary lol) Thank you for all your hardwork Wolf! ❤
All i hope is, that Larian doesn't go the way like CD Projekt RED or even worse Blizzard went. CD Projekt at least is making amends and tries to fix itself and tries to go back to their good old days. But i remember when i loved them for gog, all their games, their honesty and upwardnes. Then they have shown how much investors were driving them with CP. Thankfully it seems that this changed a bit after it. Hope Larian never goes this way even in the slightest.
Mods come to Bethesda games to better the game. People bash Bethesda. Larian does the same thing. People praise them even though Larian is further breaking the game even more. Um yea. Game journalism is garbage man. Like wtf are you all yapping about now? Dudes be saying its ok if Larian breaks stuff to fix other stuff. Bro. Wtf is this. The Twilight Zone?
Imagine if Larian Studio buys the now failing WotC and then uses Modders/Mods/Dev items to start the process of D&Ding the base so that People can even create custom dungeon runs. Can you imagine...? ;)
Mods may be a niche thing, but there are a lot of people (like me) who enjoy them. Even if initially you have no interest you might find yourself downloading one 6 months or a year from now when you begin a new playthrough... Games like BG3 don't come around often and there are a lot of people who will be playing it more than once, mods can add something to subsequent playthroughs... give an old favorite a fresh new coat of paint, you might even find a mod to fix that terrible dev choice that made this one companion you love so useless, or make playing through as a necromancer viable. I guess for me that's the point, it's almost impossible for the game dev's to polish every little thing, I often find that the specific niche playstyle I like isn't very viable, or the weapon I like most is terrible, or the companion I like is useless in combat because he/she lacks some critical skill that would make his/her build viable... I love being able to download a mod that fixes stuff like that.
Said it before and I'll say it again: people working on games know how to make them amazing. Corporate capitalists demand anti-consumer trash instead. It's true of pretty much every industry.
Thanks for sharing this! I was going to touch on it quickly but I forgot.
They've certainly held to that standard thus far. As far as developers go they've set a precedent on how to conduct yourself as far as I'm concerned. They are about the one AAA company I *don't* worry about.
given their success, lets hope they stay independent and are not bought out
@@CharlsonCKim due to how successful they are i dont see a future where theyre bought out. That term is usually reserved for companies that cant keep the lights on, while Larian has likely secured their company for the forseeable future (assuming they keep this standard of quality). I also dont see Swen or anyone else willingly selling the company
Even Blizzard was bought out, so any company can expect this
I never get tired of hearing Larian talk about what they love doing
Lu! 🙏
No Nexus mods should burn down since they are woke AF and need to get removed fully from gaming
@@MrAngryMonkey100sincerely screw off
@SordidusFellatio They're not woke, they just don't like blatantly sexist, homophobic, transphobic content on their site. Which is valid, they're not really taking a side, they're just opposing content that pushes people away.
@@MrAngryMonkey100 Ignore this person. Just someone that screams woke at something and wants to get it canceled.
@@colebeejack3898Has it gone full circle now? The cancelled trying to cancel the cancellers? What a time to be alive!
Larian gives that speech. Meanwhile Ubisoft, "gamers have to get used to not owning their games."
hmmmm do they?
Maybe for games made by them. What if people don't want to play their games?
Quadruple A
People are okay not owning films and music, though.
It means that even content mods with new quests or campaigns might become possible.
god i hope so
This is definitely not the only crpg with crazy mods but sure
May the gods hear you my friend, may the gods hear you...
Depends on the extent of mod support. But considering you could make custom campaigns in Divinity Original Sin 2? I imagine it will go quite far.
I'm going to put Adam Smasher is this game
Because I put him in every game. Here's hoping.
Larian is the best man, I'm so happy they are getting all this praise and recognition.
@@lilithdvs13 I see you like the taste of sweaty feet of lazy AAA companies and slurp up all the slop they feed you.
Good to know there are game awards where the winners are actually allowed to speak at instead of being rushed off the stage cause they need more time for ads.
The speeches gave me goosebumps... Larian is the reason why I still have hope for the gaming industry
Unlike most companies, Larian actually wants their games to have a long-tail. They are definitely not like Bethesda.
Larian speeches are important. Happy they have big platforms to speak on now. Also stoked for that mod support!

will this remove Nexus mod access then?
Mods on consoles would be fantastic. Mods are the only thing that I’m jealous of pc gamers
im currently 500 hours into the game and its still feeling fresh. This is such good news!!!!
me too 🤣
@@az-cv1ql I’m so addicted lol played bg3 early access when it came out and it got me hooked on all things D&D. So much so I went back and played the first 2 baldurs gates games and neverwinter series and put a few hundred hours into each one.

I got stuck in the crèche and yes I was angry BUT Larian is such a fantastic company that I can’t be for long. They straight up realized the errors and fixed them in like a week. It’s wild how fantastic this company is.
This award show already looks infinitely better than the Hollywood hack game awards.

Made by game designers for game designers.
Good luck.
I just really hope they will make a definitive edition for BG3.
Looking at their past games, yeah I think this is almost guaranteed. It won't be until after they done patching/updating and after any dlc/expansion.
lets focus on the dlc first then worry about definitive edition
@@SonGokuSleepTherapyLarian never does DLC or expansions for their games. They release the base game, then a definitive edition update that everyone gets for free, then they move on. If DLC does happen, it would be because of a WotC mandate and it probably wouldn't be very good.
They will in a year or two
@Soseman
kobold PC's are a must!
I can’t imagine continuing the developement after the product is ”done and sold” unless the development is aimed at the ”next sellable release”
Sure Bg3 is still sold, there are still players to reach so it’s not like they’re working for free now but damn, they’re essentially using their biggest product ever as a way to make a shitton of money AND as a loss leader paving the way for the next big Larian release.
I absolutely love this speech of them. They know what players want, what's best for the industry, and ultimately also for them in the end.
Great video Wolfster! I didn't know anything about these awards and if it wasn't for your video, I would not have heard these speeches (which were really great) So thank you very much!
Damn Mitch! Happy to share. Thank you
Yeah also happy to find out about these awards as i also didn't know of these award shows
When i saw David make his speech, 1 BILLION% agree!
7:02 lol, dude got tatted with the Absolute's mark 😆
I think he promised on twitter
I hope Larian builds other stories, exploring Fearun further. E.g the genie in the circus, the weapon you get out unlocks a quest to get you going to calimnshan/calimport. Underdark passages that leads you to a drow town with issues. Items, books particular that lead you down and search for items of power from the former netherese empire. The return of the shadovar and shade enclave returns.. endless opportunities!
P.s. I would pay same price for these games of Lorian puts the love into that do with BG3!
I loved Night of the Rabbit ❤
Never have I ever loved a game development studio like Larian is shaping up to be. They are incorporating all of THE BEST qualities of game devs, and I am ALL here for it!!!
cant wait for you to check out Mods bud
You know I have been a long time watcher of the channel and player of BG3. The mods breath so much more life in to the game
Even if your just running 5e spells and some sub classes (def recommend Dimension Traveler Wizard) it really beefs up the game
also after 2k hours between EA and Release and PC and PS5 i just finished the game for the first time. Saw you in the credits and brought a little tear to my eye. Love Larian and appreciate how dedicated you have been to this game. Keep up all the great work
Sweet. Appreciate you watching for so long
I dont have any illusion about Larian, they are a large business, doing large business stuff.
It's great to see people who are actually empathetic in every facet of a gaming company
Except BG3 is a sociopathic anti-men, anti-straight propaganda. What empathy? Is it only for minorities?
I would love it if they made a Dragonlance spin-off
That would be epic
Eerlijkheid duurt het langst. 100% Larian
I am going to say this right now, the next game that Larian makes is going to be one great masterpiece! and i wont expect it until 2030.
💯
@6:52 "Eerlijkheid duurt het Langst." It'd translate that as honesty has the longest shelf life, or maybe honesty/openness requires the least maintenance.
Good to hear. So many games dont give a damn these days, but having a company like Larian feels like such a breath of fresh air
A lone wolf watches from the shadows in anticipation! Great vid, keep up the good work! ;)
Thanks! Cheers
Larian continue to sweep awards, as Larian studios fan for 14 years i am happy to see that they are finally recognized
At least they're supportive of mods. Unlike a certain company that randomly releases pointless updates for an 11-year-old game that don't fix anything appreciable, but break all the mods.
To have all of those speeches with those thoughtful words, straightforward & good humor, he's really interesting person.
Awesome stuff. Great video, you set a great tone.
And Larian deserves it
Whatever they do next, they know 60m+ people are buying it, whatever it is.
“uh… thanks again…”
I love this Studio!
In all honestly the only really distracting bug I'd encountered pre-patch 6 was that some NPC models wouldn't load in properly and they'd be just clay figures, but for the most part that was it, and that was mainly only in Act 3, but after patch 6 literally EVERYTHING feels like it's falling apart...half the time I'm amazed the game runs at all because it always feels like it's a second away from imploding on itself;
- The lag is somehow worse
- The shopping bug (while improved drastically) STILL takes about a second to load up the inventory and gold count, which for that one second freaks the hell outa me
- Dialogue gets cut off WAY more now than it did before
- Combat lags really slowly now for some reason if you're fighting like ten people (which it never did before patch 6 for me)
- Ally AI pathing seems to have gotten worse where they now seem to blatantly walk into revealed traps on a regular basis when before it was only a minor occurrence
- Perception checks happen WAY later now where a trap doesn't reveal itself until after I'm already standing on top of it (yes even when I'm WALKING)
These are just SOME of the new bugs that I've noticed since patch 6 released, and I've heard of even worse ones that are STILL an issue even after two hotfixes (I hear the progression ending Act 2 bug is still here, which is mind boggling.
There isn't enough dragonborn content in the game (not even Hirelings) which is sad for the year of the dragon
Mods on a game are a great way to extend its life like Skyrim

I think extending longevity for anything = more sales which = more popularity.
i know we prolly wont get another game from larian for awhile but i cant wait to see their next release. i been playing their games since the first divinity and im so happy to see the studio ive grown and loved myself get the recognition they so desperately disserved
I don't mind new bugs but I mind game breaking bugs implemented in a game that is 6 months old (since release) and sure be somewhat stable.
Thanks Wolf

Honestly the only issue I've had with the recent patch was Minthara always mentioning the Emperor. But otherwise I'm hyped for official mod support since there's huge potential for a lot more cool things like custom spells, clothing, maybe even companions.
Yeah but it took them 20 years to get here and Ubisoft wants their money NOW so ...
Thanks for posting this, and including the rest of the speeches! ❤

The "real" Neverwinter Nights game was great for its time.

Larian studios ♥️♥️♥️🌹🎉
I'd love to see a mod that turns BG3 into a VTT, with the ability to make custom maps, encounters, homebrew monsters, etc.
I've never, ever run a modded game.
Larian is the new Blizzard in literal meaning, when Blizzard was at it highest and it prime. Who knows, knows.
Love larian
Never in my life when I was playing this game in EA did I think it would get this big. You really love to see it.
They're so awesome
Yay!
Couldn’t steam and gog be considered “different platforms” … might not be consoles support.. at least not anytime soon
I don't imply here that this is where Larian could go, we just simply don't know that
"Every Time a Patch comes out there is a Chance Mods stop working"
You wanna say the best Way of "getting rid of Modders" as many Studios want to would be "caring for the Game" as well instead of implementing Programs that make Games worse for that??
* shocked Pikachu Face *
There was a big CEO of a company hearing his GOTY speech and was like “BULLSHIT, ik he wasn’t gonna tell us his secrets”🤣💀
Imagine if Larian Studio buys the now failing WotC and then uses Modders/Mods/Dev items to start the process of D&Ding the base so that People can even create custom dungeon runs. Can you imagine...? ;)
Astarion wearing exactly what I'd imagine he'd wear to something like this.
Allowing mods to be on consoles just put the stamp of "Skyrim-Longevity". BG3 will be carried for a decade by mods alone.
