Matt Mercer is such a humble dude. "I am a voice actor for video games and cartoons." is really selling himself short. "I improv 20-30 voices for 4 hours every week while simultaneously writing the narrative for a group of nerdy ass voice actors." "I've written two 5e source books." "I'm one of the few humans that can really rock a vest correctly"

I always have chills when JK Simmons speaks his lines as Ketheric
it makes a big impact in game.
Simmons had the most uninspired and flat performance of anyone. Really not his best work, imo.

Not since Mass Effect series I have been so wowed by a game.
Top notch, levels above other current games.
Me too, I love the game so much, I restarted it numerous time (Not satisfied with my character or because I missed somthing moving to another Act) and I discover new things at each playthrought. Definitely my pick for GOTY.

@@Chad-Dion People who still get angry at Mass Effect’s (fixed) ending are too soft or too attached to Shepard lol. It’s more heart-wrenching to have Shepard die at the end; it’s war, not everyone will have their happy closure. The entire game literally hinted that they would have to be sacrificed at the end ( the images of family, children, their PTSD.) I understand the choppy cut was weird before they fixed it, but I wish they could have kept them dying instead of succumbing to the complaints.

I just love that one of Larian's heads is constantly walking around in armour. Man lives and breathes the fantasy genre
And has a degree in computer science! Really needed a guy that loves fantasy but also has a clue about the technical side of things to pull a game like this off.

I did _not_ know Matt Mercer was in this game. As if I wasn’t already incredibly impressed!
You can actually kind of hear it in some soft-spoken lines, but Matt is a really versatile voice actor when you see his resumé !
I can pick his voice out pretty easily most of the time due to the amount of Critical Role I watch, but he's totally able to pull one over on even long time viewers. If I'd heard Victor the Blackpowder Merchant out of context, I'd have never guessed.

@@davidparkes7741 and those game studios never actually played the game, scared it would be a giant slap to the face, but eventually they will, enjoy the game because it's objectively very good and they can learn to improve theirs. Sadly most game studios are now run by marketers and business men that only care about short term numbers. Why would it matter to them if a game is good or bad, as long as it's profitable? I just hope devs would just stop working for those big names.
And many studios did not like this high standard, because now they will have to sweat when creating games)) a regular pipeline like AC’s will no longer work)
@@strelok5317Man, i wish people give a shit to AAA developers like Arkane and Eidos Montreal when they were releasing games like Prey, Dishonored 2 and Deus Ex MD. Now we won't get that many game because it doesn't sell well.

holy shit maggie robertson did an amazing job as orin. usually characters that are needlessly and joyfully obsessed with murder and violence get annoying really quickly, but she did such a great job that I was disturbed by the character (in a good way)

Wow, this game looks SO MUCH BETTER now than when these Behind the Scenes were shot. You can just tell that an absolutely incredible amount of work and passion went into BG3. GOTY for sure. Maybe Game of the Decade.
It's hands down, going to get Game of the Year. If it doesn't, then corruption has won.
I'd say Game of the Games (for now).
I truly think one of the keystones of the success of this was the care they took in faces.
You spend so much time talking to people in that face to face, and while it is not 1:1, they nailed so many things, in concert with amazing commitment to voice acting. The lips, the eyebrows, the jaw inflections.
They did better than any AAA studio at making you feel that you were speaking to a personality, not a dialog wheel. 10/10
Matt mercer as minsc! omfg, that one blew my mind. So great to have one of critical roles finest in the game.

my mind just got blown realizing Matt Mercer is the voice of minsc for bg3.. it was literally perfectly executed, down to the bass in his voice, the roll of the tongue. perfect.

Ok Sven Vincke is now my favorite video game developer ever. His passion for Dungeons & Dragons and Baldur's Gate is so amazing, and it shows in the end product.
They did a great job with the city. I just wish you had more control over the camera so you could see it better!
I remember stopping my co-op partner and asking them to come to the ledge in front of the ruins near the crash site, and when they arrived they asked what was there. And I was like "look, ain't the view cool?"

I have utmost respect towards Swen Vincke. For ages he wanted to make BG3 and when he finally got the chance, he did it. This is how you do a sequel. This is how you fill your RPG worlds. Legendary work from the whole team.
The levels of passion and care here are just off the charts and it shows in the final product. I can honestly say this is one of the best RPG's I've had the pleasure to play in a very long time. 200+ hours and I'm still not even close to calling it quits and already looking forward to my next playthrough.
270hr, 2 playthrough, and still Act2 is not finished!
The fact that the character who throws a fireball at civilians is Astarion is just fitting.

One of my biggest complaints is they've created this beautiful game yet the camera is so restrictive you miss half of the amazing views and hard work put into the design, gonna have to mod it on my next playthrough

all actors resemble so much the in game characters it is insane! Not just the movements of course (that are captured) but also the hair, and other facial characteristics

This is the best game I’ve ever played. No game has ever made me start a second playthough the very next day. Just pure perfection, so much to do, so many different story routes. Loved it, 10/10. Interesting to see they changed Gale’s character design, I definitely prefer what they changed it to.
A truly special game. This is the first time I've had 2 playthroughs running at the same time, over a 100 hours in and honestly feel I could easily put in another 100 hours
In the same way Skyrim captivated my 11 year old self I’m so thankful BG3 came to occupy my adult life and I will be revisiting this game for years to come, and better yet it’s not lovable for its buggy clunky charm, it’s a finished, perfect product!

This game made me love games again. Felt like so many lost what games were supposed to be about.
I loved all three acts
Act 1 has gives u some independence while also keeping it linear to some extent
Act2 is mostly linear which isnt bad for a change.
Act 3 then your dumped into this vast area and said " goodluck out there"
I think i saw a lot of ppl overwhelmed with the Act3 content and its easy to miss a lot of stuff there compared to other acts imo
No way Maggie Robertson was the VA for Orin?! No wonder I loved her character so much. Every time I learn something new about the cast and crew of Larian and BG3, it just makes me appreciate it and love it so much more.
Just got to Act 2 and I think it's safe to say that BG3 is one of the best games I've ever played

Agreed. I knew he was doing everything for Isobel, and he has a history of changing allegiance to serve himself, so I was really hoping we could persuade him to side with us

This game, hands down, is an absolute master piece. I have not been this engrossed in a game since playing Dragon Age Origins for the first time. I love this game to pieces, I have already planned my next several campaigns.
13:40 I absolutely love this - it isn't just whether they like or dislike your choices and will follow you aimlessly, they react so well to things and sometimes they want something, and you can try to talk them out of it, but they can just say basically F**k you, it's my decision.
I think it is a natural outgrowth of their approach where everyone is not a companion but an 'origin character', who can themselves be the protagonist. but you're right I've never seen party members with so much agency. I think the last few well-written bioware games (DA2 and DA:I) actually did a good job of that. and those had one advantage of characters having real preferences instead of being playersexual/pansexual, which is the only thing that homogenizes everyone in BG3 a bit. I would love to see another RPG like DA2 that isn't a save-the-world-adventure but follows peoples' lives over years, and how it works the party into that is interesting. and it has probably the craziest thing any party member has ever done in a game, which you have no influence over

Yes. I need a “the making of” I’m fascinated by the depth, artistry, and technical complexity.
I dont get why more studios dont do this, like attach a mocap as they record their lines so we get better facial expressions
full performance capture is extremely expensive, basically the same cost as a small-scale film shoot. look into how the Avatar movies are made if you wanna learn more about it, though that's a more extreme version where it literally is a full on normal film shoot with all the actors together. whereas you would be shocked how little voice actors make, and VA sessions can be done very quickly. and to do full performance capture you need somebody who is a normal trained actor and not just a VA. BG3 is by probably an order of magnitude the largest game ever to use it, and it's only used for some stuff (there is 180 hrs of cinematics after all). but the amount of mocap they have is truly insane, there are rpgs 1/5 the size of this that only use algorithmic stuff for conversations (although that can be done well, the witcher 3 for example). going from this to starfield is like going from a real conversation to a wax museum

This game is such an ...absolute..masterpiece. This is the game we dreamed of as kids in the late 80s and into the 90s. I hope there will be more games like this from here on out but I doubt that will happen. The gaming industry has become a cesspool of greed but luckily we have companies like Larian (and a couple of others) that still makes games for the love of gaming. If anyone from Larian happens to read this, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. And thanks for this upload DanAllenGaming, you earned another sub.
Haven't finished the game yet but after meeting Orin I talked to so many npc's and I was like "you're Orin, aren't you?" and half the time I was right, haha!

That Lawrence guy is probably the first time I've seen a videogame writer that really does look like a writer.
Most of the VA's are legendary performers, Matt Mercer who voiced Minsc is the dungeon master of Critical Role and their web series made into an animated series called "The Legend of Vox Machina". He is also the VA for McCree in Overwatch.

I entered the city, got lost, got overwhelmed and started a new character. Got to the city and... well I have 4 characters who started act 3. I have no idea where to go from there. lol. Orin is my favorite villain so far! Ketheric's delivery of lines though is unmatched. The pure weight of the voice of the actor; the cadence, the simple straight through control just feels epic.

The fact that I found this area so overwhelming is a testament to its scale and authenticity. I truly felt like I'd just stepped into a city; this major trading hub. And for the first time in the game, it was like there was too much for me to simply save and do over. It is a unique experience every time.
This game is insane. When the guy says "when you reach Baldur's gate, and you will very soon" I was like, well I've bean playing on my first playthrough for 135h and I just reach the outside of the city. There's some much things happening in this experience and I love every second of it
Same bro, by the time I was in the city I was touching 120 something hours, max leveled just fucking off as true heroes should, going around saving shit. 😅
I listened to different actors for a few seconds, and then I put a like! Guys, these are great voices and great work with voices! Bravo!
The moment Matt shows up the world is always more adventurous and okay.
The city definitely blew me away. The moment I entered Act 3, I could not get over how beautiful it looked.

I’m not even a gamer, just someone who occasionally watches game play throughs on UA-cam so I can enjoy the storytelling. I never thought I would be into something like this, but holy shit I’m beyond impressed. I’ll never play the game myself, but every play through I’ve watched so far has blown my mind! Incredible game.

These guys make my heart happy. Not just a game but they genuinely exude a sense of fun excitement and comradeship. They seem to really enjoy their work and I've not heard a peep of gossip that there are the common troubles rife in the industries.
Their fun with eschother and their work makes the game uplifting to play, and exciting.

BG 3 is probably the most amazing game I have ever played. Seeing the passion that this entire team had for their project shows me how it got to this point. Larian I have been a gamer for 40 years and your game consistently blows my mind. This game reminds me of that sense of wonder and imagination gaming USED to invoke with me as a kid, so thank you Larian for making me feel that way again
Seeing that I haven’t gotten out of act 1 yet (making sure that I get everything possible) it’s fun to know that eventually I’ll run into Lady D again.
Hope you enjoy it toroughly. Its the most polished part of the game. The rest will leave a bad aftertaste

Everytime i learn more about Baldur's Gate, how it was made and the thought that went into it continues to blow my mind more. This game seems to have nearly infinite possibilities, and while I know it is limited, the amount of things you can do is amazing. I still love staying in the dark about choices and different outcomes because it juts means I'll hopefully be surprised by things my next playthrough! I imagine almost no playthrough can be the same, though many similar.
The writing and characters are superb. But I must admit, the cinematics and all the dialog in the game that was voiced won me over because I do a lot of reading at work so having this being voiced was so good. Less reading in a game lol

Yes but it is sorely lacking in dialogues, and interactions/cinematics at camp with teammates etc, and I'm not even talking about the romances 230 hours of play and only 3 scenes, it hurts. Other than that, a real masterpiece.
i'm over 200 hours and I just finished all the side quests in act 3. havent even seen the coronation yet

half story lines for companions arent finished,game have like 5 ending all same basicly.
tadpole had no impact on story what so ever and half quests in act 3 was unfinished.

Baldurs Gate 3 is an unbelievable journey through lots of adventures and social interactions. Every player finds his own route through the game... and after finishing, you want to start over and explore other decisions, other situations, other party members... etc.
This is a game, where all developers create something with pure love and of their heart. You can feel this in every second...
On the other end, the currently highly discussed everyday productions of the big money-seeking gaming industry, will not win against true gamers and what they want to play in their precious sparetime.
