I believe their characters were made based on them and they both had influence on writers as well.

I don't understand how Richard and his guests aren't constantly cracking up. I laugh at my own stupid jokes all the time and I'm approximately 0.04% as funny as these guys.
They're actors, lots of practice and they probably do multiple takes even though it doesn't seem like a show that would multiple takes.

Is labeling your clothes with a name tag something Brits do? Because it's not common in the U.S., I don't think.
We only tag names on children’s clothes usually! British school children almost all wear school uniforms so it makes it easier for parents/kids/teachers to tell whose is who’s.

The editing of this series is directed towards making Richard seem more funny than his guests... some of the funniest people on British TV have been on this series, but they never come across as very funny, Richard is always the funniest.. but the truth is he isn't that funny, Richard is trying too hard.
