Then, in colonial America, puritans held grand feasts for the condemned to emulate the last supper of Christ. It was supposed to represent an atonement of sorts for the community and the prisoner. So, ultimately, last meals are a product of superstitions and religion.

There's speculation about what really happened, largely because Dennis was known for having an explosive temper and he apparently wasn't coping well after retiring from professional cycling a year before the incident.
