@@It-is-me...Melsie people have a completely wrong picture of what a real psychopath really is. A psychopath is not only necessary a serial killer. There are psychopaths who live apparently “normal lives”, but who destroy their targets in many other different ways- psychological for example, financially, etc. I’ve read a lot about the subject. There are psychopaths that are so good at manipulating others that they can actually kill a person without touching a single hair, they can kill a person’s spirit and crush their soul or manipulate others into doing so. The trauma they cause can be worst than death itself. Psychopaths can’t have healthy attachments with other human beings, they disregards others, use them as objects for their own selfish needs, lie to, manipulate, have total lack of empathy…and so on and on. The list is long. Do not underestimate the damage these covert psychopaths cause, sometimes even greater than that of overt psychopaths. Just because some of them don’t physically kill doesn’t mean they can’t be one. Just look at most of the world’s politicians. Perfect cover psychos most of them, very well integrated in society, but psychopaths nonetheless.

Emmett had a woman who was better looking than Candy and she was the mother of his five children but he selfishly wanted more. Emmett and Candy's destructive behavior led to Rob committing a crime he would not have otherwise committed which destroyed his life too. I blame Emmett and Candy more than Rob. Rob should have said adios to Candy and made a new life for himself. Ashley should have picked up the pieces of her shattered life and went after Emmett for so much child support that his life with Candy would have been financially miserable. I would feel guilty if i was her. There's a very good case for it being her fault. In the end though the fault lies with Rob for bringing a gun and letting his emotions make an impulsive decision and the main fault lies with Candy for being a terrible wife and mother. Why do we do what we do and why it even matters. All matters because otherwise nothing matters. We can't choose what parts of our nature are important.

Sucks, but cheaters are greedy selfish people. Though divorce isn't the black mark on a person it used to be, it's still a blow to the ego for many and prompts questions. Cheaters hope to avoid 3 things: losing the illicit thrill, divorce, and accountability.

Ashlee seems to be doing so much better now. I read her books and watched the episodes on Dateline and Dr. Phil when they came out. This story always made me so sad. Ashlee’s children have been through so much but they are quite a bit older now and doing well from what is shown online! Seems like they offer advice and help to other kids their age who may go through trauma and tragedy like they have. The twin girls are in high school or college now. Hard to believe so much time has passed since this happened. I remember hearing about it on the news. The one solid truth out of all the versions of this story that are told: Ashlee and her children absolutely loved Emmett. She was trying to figure out what was wrong and what was going on with her husband while also taking care of their otherwise happy family and new baby. She found out he was cheating the same moment she found out he had been killed. So horrible to imagine. Knowing something is wrong but not knowing what and trying to keep spinning all those plates you are balancing above your head as a mother and wife. Then to have your world shattered like that in a moment. Changed forever. But, Ashlee has done an amazing job helping her children heal and continue on from this.

Hard to believe that a lawyer, especially one opening a criminal practice, would make the kinds of threatening statements and use the kind of language towards Rob, knowing what usually happens to people who make such threats. Also hard to imagine how he could feel entitled to be so hateful towards Rob, knowing that he was Candy's husband and the father of her two children. And cheating on his sweet wife Ashley. Absolutely no regard at all for the sanctity of marriage. Rob deciding to confront them both was a bad idea, but when your marriage is being literally threatened like that, good judgment often goes out the window and the primal need to preserve the family often kicks in. If I were Rob, instead of confronting them both, I'd have saved all the evidence I had and communicated it all to Ashley, then immediately got an attorney and started divorce proceedings.

YOU are right. But as one who worked around lawyers for years I can honestly say that Emmett's behavior is the rule far more than the exception.
They are arrogant, nasty pieces of 💩 and think nothing of screwing over their family, clients, other lawyers etc.
Lawyers set up the game in their favor and we see that even with SCOTUS. They do all kinds of crazy, bizarre and unethical things but cover for each other-but if the average joe/Jane does it, theyll quickly find a "rule to make you pay.
Look at our politicians and leaders. Mostly lawyers on power trips who want to rule over the masses and they rig the game to do just that.
Emmett was well on his way but overreached because his lust went way out of control coupled with amphetamine abuse. A recipe for the disaster that happened.

My heart goes out to Ashlee and her children. Emmett destroyed their lives, but thankfully she has healed since then and is now married to a loving and supportive husband.

Lol Ashlee is also terrible. Why on Earth did she choose Emmett? Think about all the decent guys she turned down for that BLATANT psychopath. She absolutely deserves some blame for that astonishingly poor judgement.

@@yellowjacket5995a lot of abusers initially act really kind and caring, and it's further into the relationship that the red flags become more numerous. Emmet also wasn't like that before he started taking steroids
Also, we have no idea whether she turned a bunch of other guys down or not. That still doesn't make this her fault. He chose to mistreat her, and some possible past partner isn't entitled to a relationship with her just because he may have been "decent."

@@yellowjacket5995so there’s no way Emmet could’ve been a decent or different man in the beginning and over the years turned into an arrogant jerk? People change, and it’s not always for the better. Otherwise the divorce rate wouldn’t be what it is. Emmet had also been taking steroids which made him even worse. He passed the bar, had his own law firm, and got a big head. Who are you to call her a terrible person based off of your assumptions? Maybe she knew and maybe she didn’t. You don’t know these people personally. None of us do.

RIP. Candy is the bad apple, She told Emmet that Rob doesn't want to give her her freedom, and this infuriates Emmet and is consistent with Emmet constantly talking to Rob, Convincing him to let Candy go. But to Rob Candy kept the carrot of saving all, in the end, she cost a life and so much hurt for what? Rob should not be convicted, not in my view, this was the only time he went towards Emmet, and it was to collect his wife, albeit cautiously, (I might have taken an axe along as well) with the gun, but he did conceal it, I think it was not to show Emmet he "hides" behind a gun. If he wanted to shoot Emmet, he would have shot him right then and there, so I believe the events happened as Rob described them. Good Luck Rob, and good luck Ashlee, and ALL the children.

Dr. Grande, your observations are spot on. Anyone can be pushed too far, and Candy seemed to be enjoying both men fighting for her affections. Rob probably shouldn't be in prison for the term he was given, especially since speculation of how the shooting happened. When Rob gets out of prison, he should only talk to Candy through his attorney. If the woman didn't cheat, none of this would have happened. Are they still married?
