So glad to know that I’m not the only one who gets annoyed by the alarm going off even though I know I only have myself to blame for setting the alarm in the first place. 😂
For the future, jam needs to boil for a longer time, like 20 mins, and then it needs to pass the spoon test. You take a spoon and dip it in the jam and run a finger down the spoon and if the jam stays in place, it ready!

Woke up to this in the middle of the mixing with the hands and don’t understand why it is necessary to do this by hand? How would using a mixer be unacceptable? Loving the measurements “just a smidge”. Reminds me of my grandma. 🥰
Cut out a cardboard circle a bit bigger than your cake stand, cover it in foil and use a bit of double sided tape to keep it from sliding off.

I was thinking the tiny hearts could go in between the hollow hearts as both would bake quicker than the solid hearts. Just turn them in reverse directions to fit them in between the cut-out hearts.

Maybe a filling instead of frosting in between? But it’s late for that now, so chalk it up to a lesson learned and either buy more butter next time or make a filling for in between and save the frosting for the top and sides.

You probably over measured the flour..never scoop right out of the container. I fluff the flour with a spoon and lightly fill the measuring cup with the spoon then level..I too used to scoop.
It’s as if you’re making pie crust but with sugar instead of flour. Assuming you’re going to roll the dough out? Sorry I missed the beginning.

I love the fillings of the pies but wont eat the crust. Thanksgiving pumpkin pie I make me just the filling and a whole pie with crust , for my hubby and sons. I know I am weird.

Tell me you’ve grown up with a chef but never bothered to learn from watching them because they were “just the help” and you finally get the urge to do something for yourself, without telling me.
Seriously though, please teach all your children to fend for themselves in the kitchen, to know how to read a recipe, to know basic safety rules, and how shopping for groceries works from planning ( within a budget), to using up leftovers and proper storage /freezing of foods.
While you’re at it make sure they know basic laundry and clothing care.
Also basic financial literacy from how to keep a bank register in order to always know how much money you have available before the bank has cleared things because you hav already accounted for checks or purchases or upcoming automatic payments before they have been deducted from the balance the bank shows. This will help prevent overdrafts caused by forgotten items coming in after you’ve already spent the money you thought you had available based on the bank’s current balance. This is also your first line of defense if you ever have a dispute with your bank over your balance.
