    • @fwogboy
      @fwogboy 2 роки тому +1

      i mean cooking and baking are pretty much one in the same honestly. you can break up lots of different culinary things into different categories (making sauces and stirfry vs. making pot roasts and casseroles; frosting cakes vs. baking them; etc etc), but I don't really see the point in it.

    • @skyydancer67
      @skyydancer67 2 роки тому +2

      @@fwogboy I beg to differ. Baking calls for more precision than cooking normally does. The cake could have more easily turned into a complete disaster if she was off with her substitutions. Luckily, it turned out fine and looked delicious.
      Cooking is a little more lax bit people can still benefit from knowing what ingredients can actually do with others and why some combinations work exceptionally well. Technique is really more of what drives cooking. Take a simple carbonara with parmesan cheese, eggs, pancetta (guanciale is more traditional but less common in the states), and spaghetti. It's way easier to mess up than many know but once you get a good technique going, you have a delicious dish.

    Fun tip for a parchment paper circle:
    Tear off a square
    Fold square in half
    Fold in half again
    Find the corner where all the corners meet: hold that corner and fold it into a triangle shape
    Do that a second time
    Take your weird triangle and measure it up against your pan (pointy corner towards the edge, bigger flatter side to the center of the pan) find roughly the middle of the pan. snip across the paper triangle where the center of the pan is in a straight line (better too big than smol, you can always cut more)
    Unfold and voila ! Paper circle.

    • @natalieb9819
      @natalieb9819 2 роки тому +2

      I just put the parchment paper in the pan I'm using and use my nails(clean hands/nails of course since I'm cooking) or a knife to score a line around the edges. Much quicker then all that folding lol. Both ways work, whichever you've been doing the longest is quick but I still stay just smushing it in the pan and doing a quick scoring is quickest.

    hey simsie!! just a tip for the future, its WAY easier to mix dry ingredients first then to mix wet into it after (at least thats what my mom taught me was easier)!! and softly mixing the dry with wet ingredients before using the hand mixer is less messy bc the hand mixer's lowest speed setting is still pretty fast so the powders wont fly everywhere! Happy birthday, you two look like you had a blast :D

    Kayla, I think the reason the frosting tasted bitter and/or weird is because you used Hershey's special dark cocoa powder. Whenever I've used it, whatever I was making has turned out bitter and weirdly dry. I don't know what they do with it, but you can't make 100% pure cocoa powder any darker (e.g. a higher ratio of cacao to other ingredients), so whatever it is it's not actually making a darker chocolate.

    Girl a few tips for next year.
    1. When you add the dry ingredients add them in batches of 3, when they are roughly combined. Obv sift first
    2. If it says add slowly.. IT MEANS SLOWLY
    3. Level your cakes girl haha, just cut out the dome
    4. When you add the ganache and you want a cute drip, use your spoon for the drips and then just pour the ganache to fill in the rest of the top
    5. The rest you did fine, congrats

    you can get resealable bags from ikea that are big enough to hold the flour/sugar bags!! it means that when you open or pour the actual ingredient it doesn’t go over the floor and instead stays in the bag so you don’t waste any (or have to spend half your life washing flour off the floor)

    Trick for cutting the parchment, cut a square from the roll, and then fold it in half diagonally a couple times (like you're making a paper snowflake) and then line up the inner corner with the middle of the pan and cut the outer corner to line up with the edge of the pan. Unfold and check the size, you might still have to cut off a bit more but i find this method much easier than trying to free-hand a circle :D

    • @aloeme
      @aloeme 3 роки тому +4

      just place the pan on the parchment paper, outline the circle and cut it.

    Oh you two!! You used your dry measures for liquid and your liquid measure for dry!! Oh and for your parchment (for future) you just fold the sheet like a paper airplane basiccally, then put the point in the center of the bottom (like a radius) and then cut the other end of the paper where it hits the edge of the pan. When you unfold you know have a perfect circle!! Lol!! This was fun though!!

Just a top tip when baking with butter, chop it into smaller pieces before mixing (it helps i have made lots of mess in my kitchen before i found this out) also if you have powdered (icing) sugar or cocoa powder try putting a tea towel over the bowl and slide the hand mixer through a small gap this helps to limit the mess :)
