      If only this was shown to every new player as they start their climb up the ranks.
      Can you imagine how good it would be??
      Random matches would be like tournament games!!!
      Let's hope this new roadmap with tutorial does as good a job as you have here.
      I'm level 157, level 10 on squad lead, engineer and suppprt, level 8 on rifleman, anti tank and assault level 7 on tank commander, crew and level 6 or 5 on everything else (i dont play sniper tho) and I just learned something new from this video!!!! 😶
      I didn't realise the capture in the two game modes changes!!! No-one ever said lol
      There's me telling players to build around the black circl and NOT inside it but I always assumed the distance had to be the whole 4 squares not more close in one of these modes.
      Still I'm glad I was correct to keep garrisons outside that circle. I have been guilty of a constant reaction of a squad spawn inside that circle as the position is being overun tho to try to get my whole squad to occupy the circle for double the manpower score. Thus, it has worked to save a capture but now I might reconsider this in warfare mode.🤔
      Thanks for this and all the other videos!!

    In my experience, medics are necessary or at least very helpful. Yes it's true that waiting for a revive takes longer than just respawning. Yes it is also true that waiting for a revive takes a lot less time than respawning then running 1000 meters back because nobody has set up a spawn point which has been my experience in most of the games I've played so far.

    17:04 MG can be essential for attacking- surpressive fire can totally deny enemies from peeking and hitting your teammates, along with providing a safe angle of attack as you will shoot anyone that tries to peek anyways. The difference between having fire superiority and not is winning or losing, and 2 MG's opening up at the same time can flatten a defense for a long time

    I see medics as super helpful especially when the nearby spawn points are destroyed as ive seen where an entire squad is taken down then the medic comes by revies all of them saving critical time if they had to walk back from a far out location. It's more a strategy, if you have only a couple of medics for the entire side then it will make no difference but if each squad has a medic, believe me they will be nearly impossible to overtake.

    As someone who's newer to this game, but still well versed in FPS..
    Go Machine gun class. The heavy effect that suppression offers in this game is insane, and all you need to do is put down a bipod and shoot in that direction.. its not about kills (sometimes) but it gives your squad mates a chance at pushing a position with less issue.

    Just started playing this game this weekend, I didn't realise it had so much depth until I played it. I also heard the trope from friends that it's just a game where you run and die repeatedly, but now having played it myself that is obviously such a superficial and ignorant take.
    I'm loving the passion for teamwork and coordination, so far people have been very helpful to me over VoIP. I've jumped onto Support, Recon and Armor positions and been promptly yelled at for not doing my job, but once I told people I'm new they were quite happy to chill out and teach me. It's really satisfying to be thanked for carrying out an order or providing important intel (it almost makes me think that the only way to rank up should be via people commending you, like, you know, how it works in real life)
    In my limited experience, however, I do think you glossed over the Recon squad. It was very unintuitive to me that Recon is supposed to literally venture deep into enemy territory. While yes I was asked once to harass their artillery, I was taught to gather intel on enemy vehicles and infantry, take out garrisons, build garrisons from supply drops in enemy territory, take out resource nodes, and work with my sniper. I find it to be a very interesting role despite rarely engaging in combat. I suspect it is a better introduction to being an officer vs having the responsibility over a 6-man squad with the stress of fighting on the frontline.

Some months later just recently installed it again 2 nights ago and now I absolutely love this game so much. Once I learned it. It quickly became one of my goated shooters. I enjoy being an Officer. Being good at placing nodes and keeping up with nodes is champion status. Players absolutely love Officers keeping up with spawn points. It just feels good to be one of those important players ya know. 😅

    Great job as always Mono, the only thing I disagree with is the use of the supply truck at the beginning of the game. I believe squad leaders should use their support guy to get blue zone garis as they rush the middle. The truck can then be used by the engineers which saves fuel for the tanks. Just my thoughts. You're a great help and thank you from the 15th panzergrenadiers

    • @monoespacial
      @monoespacial  Рік тому +13

      With a support truck a Squad Leader and a support can build 3 garrisons at the start. It's also a best/worst case scenario situation.
      Best case scenario of Engineer taking truck is you get nodes + 1 garrison. Extra lucky if you get 2.
      Worst case is you get no garrison at all, which is FAR worse than the benefit of having nodes early is. The best way of avoiding this is for the engineer not to take the truck.
      So it's a "might get a slight benefit vs a massive blow to the team" or a "guaranteed good situation" with the SL taking the truck.

    • @Peanuttts660
      @Peanuttts660 Рік тому +4

      @@monoespacial I understand completely, My scenario is mainly with an organized team that will build garis at the start and swtich out support guys to get the job done. We aim to have our nodes started and 3 blue zone garis before reaching the neutral zone.
      I've learned almost everything I know from your videos, I'm so thankful for them. You've really changed the mindset of so many players in here and everyone who loves this game should thank you for it.
      Keep up the great work sir!

      @@Peanuttts660 A well organized team will just cycle support during the warmup and build all of the nodes in HQ before the wall drops.

    The first 9-ish mins of this vid and eventual 3 hours of game time, entirely spent as a squad leader, was enough to learn the game fast, I actually died a lot less than I expected, defended a lot better than expected and helped entire team flanks a lot better than I anticipated too. Prior squad leader knowledge from similar games helped, but it's so satisfying to learn things properly and get it done right to help your team.

    Gonna go over a few things I think could make HLL even better with balancing changes or small features. Main thing is making comms easier. Good squads make the game way better, unless you're just hopping into a match for a quick second and are too tired to play seriously. That's OK too and its the reality a lot of HLL players are in. Once people learn the game, you can give good comms half asleep. You can build a Garry and set an OP. All Milsims seem to suffer from the same Paradox: the squad leader who volunteers and plays the role well is going to feel like they could do more by playing a different class. So they feel no reward for SLing for a bunch of guys who don't even talk back. It isn't your skill level, it's whether you can follow along with what they're planning. Squad leading is extra work and it requires a lot more effort to also get kills and play normally. But sometimes even in HLL, a light milsim, the squad leader is going to be required to hang back and babysit an outpost or spot enemies because no one else will. The good SLs are people who want the job done right, but it's hard to do that when no one else around wants to participate. The devs need to watch the comms issue closely because I think it's the community that makes the game feel fun vs. not fun in milsims. Win or lose, you want to be able to say gg. That's what makes the genre more forgiving than games where your progress is based on your MMR (like ELO system). In HLL I can lose 3 in a row and not feel any discouragement from logging in the next time and just having another go at it. The game is fun when the community gets into a match on both teams. Comms! So important to preventing this game from becoming like Battlefield. There is an awesome middle ground between the older BF games and Post Scriptum that could have HLL running for years to come.
    I think the game is in a pretty good spot as a game, it's the community that really needs to somehow get more into making good comms.
    For a game with so much aid from the UI, you get a really hard to read compass and your map doesnt default center on you when you pull it up while alive. Other milsims won't show the zoomed out overview except in the spawn/class select screen. Being able to pre-select loadouts would be great. Also more focus on Rifleman ammo would be good. Respawning on OPs shouldn't refill all ammo. Airheads either. Those are tempo and fallback spawns. It's really quite imbalanced to have AT being a class you just respawn as when a tank appears. I'd like to see them add zeroing too. Really wish the devs would find a way to make a "mic" / comms squad option. Making the opposite may encourage people to be lazy. I get it. One of the best things about HLL is that you get like three quarters of a milsim experience with a quarter of the effort. It's a simple game mechanically. I can complain a bit about map design and some of the choices about artillery. They should do more with the building aspect, but also maps feel very boxy with too many forced chokepoints that feel odd when youre like "which one of these identical houses is actually occupiable? I need to know where to check for enemies."
    The main thing is just getting good info out to people and making it really easy for people to get into the game. Which is HLL's main strength. I'm a Post Scriptum test weekend player. I saw the mistakes those devs made. If Post Scriptum launched today it might have a healthy chance at dethroning HLL. But the community is down to a thousand or so regular players meaning you have a couple servers full at any time. I like that HLL is casual but feel like they could seamlessly incorporate a lot of the positives of PS, which is arguably a much more faithful simulation.
    I think HLL mainly suffers from the lack of comms in the squads though. That makes the game a lot more fun. It's "are we attacking or defending" and you set up OPs. What's tough is that some SLs need to be building garrisons and managing the map. It feels sometimes like no one wants to draw straws, but maybe HLL could improve match quality in the games current state simply by focusing on teaching the community how to play.
    I am mixed about the armor system and the feeling of a 200m rifle shot not dropping someone in one shot. The 10 second of no-interaction with the map or loadout selector is weirdly more hard-core than games that are slower and have more required knowledge to play well. Maybe the bandage system overcompensates this.
