Great Job bro at the end of the vid I was crying because of the tree and how people appreciate the love and we all come together with any race difference, I’m a huge fan of U2 and I’m only 14 , I play guitar and I learn all there riffs and songs , I’m a Rattle and Hum and Actung kid of person but there old music are better than the new. I would like to say continue your videos because U2 impacted me hard and I love them so continue at least just for me cause I appreciate your content and the great band U2

I have been a fan since 84 when i heard 'Pride In The Name Of Love' and Joshua Tree is one of my all time favorite CD's. It is one that helped me big time, during the later 80''s when i was fighting a major drug addiction and homeless. Am clean and sober today. I can put any song on that cd on and go back to how it was then and the special moments it gave me. Got to see them live in Nov 87, on their Joshua Tree Tour. Go out there in the Summer. I am here in Phoenix and the Desert gets very hot and dangerous in the heat. Has already reached a hundred degrees. Have to ask, what happened to the special tree? I know my home state has seen more than its share of massive heat, fires, and floods. Great video. Will probably be the closest that i ever get to the magic spot.

When this album came out in 1987 I was working at a record store and we got the albums, cassettes! and CD's in but we couldn't open until Midnight. I was/am a HUGE U2 fan and I was just about to go to the back of the store and break open the CD and play it regardless (I would of been fired. We had been warned! haha) so I am working the main register and my good buddy Brett comes walking in the store, drunk, high and holding in his hand the Joshua Tree album that he bought from a different store that broke street date and right away I asked my boss "Can we PLEEEEEEEEASE PLAY IT?!" and he "Sure... go ahead. And go ahead and open our stock since we can now legally sell it since the date was broke locally"
I cannot believe that was over 32 years ago. I was 22 years old.
Anyways, I got off work at like 1am and Brett and I went to my friend Gary's house, woke his ass up and listened to the entire album (already my 3rd or 4th time since Brett came through in the clutch) and I remember getting pretty drunk myself and taking a can of spray paint and writing "With or Without You" on Gary's garage wall.
It stayed on there until 2007 when Gary lost the house to foreclosure.
Oh, and the color of the paint was GOLD!
    Perfect!
Gary is now a homeless man. Drugs destroyed his life (why he lost the house that was literally given to him and it was already paid off). I occasionally hear from him when he can borrow or steal a cell phone. It's usually "Can I have like a $1?" or something off the wall. Every time I say yes but then he never meets me.
Brett is a successful real estate agent (yuck) and lives in another state.
And I have been a graphic artist/designer since 2001 and work a an amazing agency.
And I am just about to start my day with The Joshua Tree playing in my car on my way to work.
    Blessings all!

Goosebumps! Your story with U2 reminded me so much of mine. I became a fan at 14. Came home from school and devoured everything I could find online about them. Stories, photos. I taped everything on them from TV. Saved every penny to go and buy their records and form my collection. My life was changing, and I was aware of it. This year, 2020, marks 20 years since that. They are and will always be the band I come to for comfort, for familiarity, for warmth. I cannot describe the emotions their music make me feel.
I shed a tear watching this and seeing what people have left there. I haven't been able to attend any of their shows yet (many reasons) and I still hope and pray I get the chance someday. I am happy you were able to do this pilgrimage.

Beautiful!!! I've been a mega fan for 30 years now, and just saw your videos for the first time. This literally made me cry. I forget that so many of us - nearly all, I'll never meet - are united in optimism and sonic harmony, by the work of just four men...whom I will also never meet. That unity in beauty makes me hopeful for the world, when it's so easy to be pessimistic in today's era. While I've never been to Joshua Tree, I did make my pilgrimage to Hansa Studios in Berlin a couple of years ago; and while these places are just locations on the globe, they are also landmarks to put a bit of reality back into the magic of the music, and those moments we've all had alone with some headphones. Thank you for this video... and PLEASE make more of the documentaries!!!

This is great. Reading the comments, I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who got teary eyed throughout the video! I've been a fan since I was 10...the Joshua Tree album was just released and you couldn't walk around my neighborhood without hearing the echoing sounds of Edge's guitar at the start of Where the Streets Have No Name coming from a house, a car, a garage or someone's "boombox" in the park. I've been to 14 concerts so far, and was lucky enough to meet Adam and Bono in the last few years. Bono actually had a moment with my 9 year old son where he signed a poster he had draped on his back, that used to hang on my bedroom wall throughout my childhood. You can see the footage here: ua-cam.com/video/W83Pgs0Rp_8/v-deo.html . at the 1:17 mark, my son (Adamo....named after Adam) interacts with him...and a little later, asks to sign his back. These 4 guys are incredible. I am so grateful I chose to follow such amazing musicians and human beings! Maybe a pilgrimage to the Joshua Tree should be in my future! Who wants to join?

Your documentaries about U2 are fantastic! I have been a fan of the band since I first heard them in 1982, while living in Nagoya Japan. I was lucky enough to see them live in Nagoya 1983, the War tour. The show was absolutely amazing, Bono was so personable, they’re such amazing entertainers. They remained my favorite band without question for many years, although the newest couple of albums have kind of lost me a bit....War, October, Boy, Joshua Tree, the Unforgettable Fire....timeless classics. War, especially has a place in my heart, every song on the album will immediately elicit clear memories tied directly to the music.
Thanks for producing and sharing some terrific docs about one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

The 2 beginning guitar riffs from that album that strike me as denoting "hope" and "joy" are from "One Tree Hill" and "In God's Country!" If you don't crack a smile from hearing either one of those, you have no heart! :-) PLEASE do an Unforgettable Fire docu, even if there are others out there - you have such detailed and in-depth insight into the band that U2 fans love - please do one soon! I’ve been to Ireland twice, seen the band live many times and have even met the band. But I haven’t seen the Joshua Tree, which makes me sad. First let me say this was a great clip/video you posted. I am not a huge U2 fan anymore quite frankly cause I grew up had a family [which I lost later] and joined the Army. As a musician and song writer they are pretty much the benchmark for commercial success.
They were on a show a few years back and pretty much insulted every American citizen about the outcome of a choice. I am sure Bono would admit he has a big mouth and may not have every answer correct. This was a weakness of mine and his. I am ultimately a consumer and will say I went to a large number of their shows and rarely felt ripped off. They are a good band with a solid rhythm section. Mullen rocks that kit.
They definitely give an emotional performance and I am sure the competition's skin crawls cause their longevity based on the skill is a head scratcher or may seem undeserving. I still like their tunes and do have a respect for their business acumen. However if you take a band like Queen as seen in Live Aid which everyone agrees that they stole the show. There is still hope and yes I may head up to the monument. There are still ways we can honor their work by not subsidizing their fuel for their private jets or their mansions. Gas money for the trip to Joshua Tree and the entrance fee to the park may be a more appropriate.
Thanks for posting this it was cool. =: >)

Listen Trumpanzee, U2 are an anti-fascist band and what you call an "outcome of a choice" was the deliberate attack on democracy by white racist Americans. If you ever thought the band who wrote Pride and Bullet the Blue Sky would just lay back and not say a word you were never a fan and didn't understand U2's music in the first place.

Nice vid bro, been a fan of U2 since 1999, got their Best of U2 1980-1990 album first then start collecting cassete tapes from their albums up to HTDAAB even though CD are available at later years.
BTW i'm from Philippines, and I'm so sad I can't watch their tour in Manila this December 2019, for me The Joshua Tree is their best album, RNH, Achtung Baby, ATYCLB are good but TJT is a complete package, and maybe more sentimental for me.

Great little documentary!!! I visited the tree in 2014 and a few times since then...But January Of 2014 was the when my five year obsession with the band and that album finally culminated. Seeing the tree in person for the first time was amazingly surreal. Very happy I get to share that experience with the U2 community. But I’ve literally had bad dreams where I show up to that side of the road to visit the tree...and they’re doing construction, developing houses on that desert plain hahaha!!! I’ve had that kind of dream twice. The second time around it was a gas station...and I remember feeling hurt that non U2 fans were gonna see people waking out to the tree and not respect the site hahaha!

Sorry if this offends anyone but I have a huge problem with people leaving items behind at the tree? When you leave Joshua Tree the only things that you should leave behind are your footsteps. I'm almost certain that the members of the band would appreciate it if people didn't leave anything there at the site. People need to remember that there isn't a weekly trash pickup at the site and all of these things are going to pile up and become basically a trash bin.
