Love the video, I really enjoy tackle and rigging talk. I was thinking about switching my lures to mostly barbless singles hooks, so it's great to hear you giving me some "validation". Trebles to me are the devil, just caught a tarpon recently and it was almost impossible ro release due to the barbed trebles setting too close the gills. Love the channel, keep them coming..tight lines.
Great vid! Also should’ve mention to anyone getting into the sport of GT fishing consider if the website says 100g it ain’t 100g rigged (depends on hook setup) seen some fellas scratch there head on why there rod ain’t loading up properly and I’ve mention, hooks, splits, add weight
Hey Joe - flatteneing trebles does a few things: makes hooks penetrate deep easier protects the fish if it reefs you (it's easy for the fish to shed the lure) It protects you and other anglers if you happen to hook a person
Yes we do eat g.t. in Hawaii but we also c&r what we don't need but other then that this class was good lol aloha and mahalo from Oahu hawaii tight lines and solid hook ups
John what pound test/material would you recommend for an assist cord off the front of a lure for 200lb class bluefin. Would I be ok with 200lb blue or white shout PE assist cord or should I go with something like Kevlar?
Given the nature of the big fish's sharp teeth I would go with Kevlar if you are looking at using an assist man. What lure you talking about running here?
EbbTideTackle Siren Deep Seductress. Super fast sinking and Jason from siren said it should handle an assist from the towpoint just fine. Another option I was looking at would be running the Shout braided assist hooks. Given the lure isn’t a touchy floating stick or finesse lure what would you go with? With the nature of these fights going so long, and after seeing so many fish eventually dropped using trebles, I’m really just looking for the most secure, long term connection with hook up ratio taking a back seat
You may lose the occasional fish with no barbs but mostly if you keep the line tight you will land it, plus many people don't realise that barbs make it much harder for a hook to penetrate ;)
I have seen in Shimano TV, that one guy has a big popper without tail hook. He replace his tail as an inline spinner. I guess that in order to set a huge 7/0 treble on belly and assure the popper can float properly, abandon the tail is one choice. Not a lot fish bite from tail, isn't it? Tail is not important as belly, right?
We asked for a vid on rigging hooks and you delivered 👍great tutorial too
Haha aim to please Paul ta man

Thanks for the thumbs up Jorge - yep sometimes trebles make a massive mess regardless of barbs on soft mouthed fish. Its great there are options.

haha yeah I woulda thought that was kinda obvious hey, might mention that in a nother vid planned, cheers bro
I use a digital scale and work the weight out with rings and hooks.
Nicely presented mate
Yakoob Junior thanks very much man
Thks for sharing appreciate the info..my lures are only 60g n use VMC 2/0 n 3/0..should I flatten my trebles..mahalos

great information. cover the used treble hooks in talcum powder to prevent them from rusting.
never heard of that one! Tell us more!

No judgement bro! Mahalos hope you enjoyed the vid.

@@DanEvan 100% agree on no trebles just not sold on the need for the nose assist on SBT
Thank you, a really helpful and well explained video
thanks Peter mission acomplished then!

What size trebles/singles to you recommend for Heru Cubera 150's and 180's?
B1gBoss100 I run 6/0 GT Recorders on the150 and 7/0 on the 180 - individual floatation is determined by the wood density of each lure
Thanks for the info. I was looking at Owner ST76 but 5/0 is their biggest. The GT Recorders come barbless?
I see they do. Thanks!
B1gBoss100 sure do!
What is your opinion of fluorocarbon leader vs a mono shock leader? I always assumed fluoro was better but I've heard mono shock is fine.
What knot do you use to attach the blue assist cord to your hook?
Hi man, it's a simple granny knot, I might need to do a vid at some point
@@ebbtidetackle yes that would be good
A great vid! What are the split rings you mentioned?
Hey man glad you liked it - Fisherman rings.
so single hook or treble hook on the tail of the lure?
Depends on the lure and the size of the fish / likelyhood of a hot bite or not ;) as a general rule, singles on stickbaits, trebles on poppers
What are the best single hooks to use?
Shout Kudako Man
Is that a BKK treble? What size are you using?
Gamakatsu GT Recorder trebles. Unbeatable for GT fishing!!
@@ebbtidetackle very nice! What size are you using? 7/0?
@@sab35263 anything from 4/0 to 7/0. Matched to lure size!
Is that really no need to worry about losing fish with a barbless treble?
You may lose the occasional fish with no barbs but mostly if you keep the line tight you will land it, plus many people don't realise that barbs make it much harder for a hook to penetrate ;)
No wonder I lose a marlin at inshore. Is double J-hook a good choice as Treble hook for topwater?

Most GT's come on the belly hook for sure.
They are big ass lures. What you fishing for?
Giant Trevally
Agree
Thank you
You're welcome Michael!
Monocuco!!
Angel Polo J. Not sure what that means 😂
No casting inside the boat...
Geoff Collins ?
I prefer to use singles.
You use whatever I tie on hahaha
