Must be a crazy feeling having a massive GT look ya in the eye with those eyes the size of tennis balls after it pushes you to the limit of what you and your gear can take. I can see why you guys love those fish like you do, and respect em too. Great stuff, thanks for making the vids for us to enjoy.
Great video Briggsy, I've watched it a bunch of times. Me and my friends fish off the rocks on the Northeast seaboard of the US for Atlantic Striped Bass and "Tailors"(they get over 10 kilos over here). It's hard here too, but instead of the volcanic sandpaper rocks you fish on, ours are wet and slick, like greased bowling balls with sharp edges. We wear spikes, you wear tennies. Wish we had GTs and YFT close to shore, but the Atlantic BFTs have been coming in on rare occasions. We rig for big fish, nothing like those GTs around here, but imagine a 10k Tailor. The stripers get over 20Ks but they don't fight like bluefish. Wish they did. So "same thing", but different. If you can fish the rocks, you can fish anywhere, for anything.
Blistering Barnacles......you both got SMOKED!!!!!!!! Nice one Briggsy, the Black Cat Dog has really helped you guys get some good trips in, hopefully plenty more to come over the summer....yeah, fishing for crimbo!
Briggsy just found you yesterday on Utube as an old man watching that catch I felt like I was having a damned heart attack! You are a true sportsman to catch and release!
Wow just seeing this out of the box ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.
Wow! That looks very dangerous. I love the first person perspective. It allows you to realize the trouble you guys go through to land these fish from the rocks.
Amazing work! I wasn't sure at first, but everything really, really came together at the end of this! You really put a lot of effort into this incredible piece of art! Thank you, can't wait for more!
Same thing I thought, almost. ...Is this what the video title meant? Paddling like a people-popper. It's on ya, big... BIG!...Go faster!! Where ya put the hooks? :(
There’s nothing like getting smoked by a giant fish from land. Truly one of the craziest fishing experiences an angler can have. 🍻 mate keep doing your thing
Thanks Briggsy. Perfect timing on the drop. Good fodder for getting the mind off the craziness of the earthquake today. Keep it up and if you ever want to fish Alaska let me know.
Sick vid! Was cool to see watch it without knowing what went down.. Putting an accurate weight to the fish was also good to see, seems like we've been under-estimating our fish by around 5kg? Awesome!!
Before this trip I would have called it 20kg but after weighing Triggy's 14kg one the day before (which we guessed was 8kg-10kg) we knew more what's up. Definitely would be good to have the scales if we ever get a real big one!
Hooked on your content. You have some of the best editing I've ever seen on UA-cam. It's not only the awesome fishing and the beautiful scenery but also the tight knit friendships and the willingness to cheer each other on and help each other out that makes me a huge fan of morningtide. I'm frothing from all the way in Florida on GT's. Big fan and sub. Tight line's and stay safe.
This was intense. From the very beginning, I was on the edge thinking something was coming at you 🦈 on that mattress 🤣 then I thought “BIG BIG” I was like, he caught a big shark!!! Lol. This was awesome. I really enjoy watching these videos. People at work make fun of me all the time for watching these. Lol. Yewwww
This is the first channel in regards to fishing that I have ever actually subscribed to. I first watched briggsy’s video of some kind of weird looking creature he pulled out from under the sand. Have you seen that one? 😱😂 anyways, after that I just started watching all his channels because I loved hearing his accent and now I just love his videos and blogs. Really cool. I wish I could travel to these places, so awesome.
Totally insane. You guys should start tagging. Maybe come up with a Morning Tide tag that the state would okay with.... it would be funny if Johnny caught one on camera.
Those GT are Hardy as hell, I didn't think it was going to swim away as strong as It did! Many species would be dead after that amount of time. Good on ya for knowing your fish!
All fishing is challenging in their own Wright .so Briggs keep doing it mate .we enjoy If they like wherever what the doing here. You doing good man keep it up
I’d call that getting rocked rather than smoked. Smoked to me is when they take off for the horizon and the drag gets so hot it smokes... then you get spooled or you break them off. I’ve been rocked after hooking up on the surface in 100’. The fish headed for the bottom while coming towards me and I couldn’t reel fast enough to get caught up before it found some sharp rocks. All I could do is admire its technique!
smoked is just busted off bro. wasted by the fish. I'm from nz been smoked by 2 kingfish in the last couple days. lasted 5 seconds max from hook up. that's what we call it and the aussies obviously do to. never heard anyone call it getting rocked and landbased fishing is my life.
Great vid, thanks for creating and sharing. What sort of dollar value of lures do you go through in a year? (In terms of lost lures due to being smoked/bad knots etc)
Hi Mate, no bad knots anymore since doing the FG and Uni and I reckon now that using PE10 I've prolly only lost 5 lures to GT in the last 3 years... I lose way more lures on PE4 going for Tuna and getting snipped by Mackerel or smoked by Kingfish (but those lures are worth a lot less, usually just using SXR14s for Tuna etc.). So if I had to put a $ value on lost GT lures per year it'd be somewhere around $150 and I reckon maybe another $200 from lost Tuna size lures.
@@Briggsy Cheers mate. In terms of what I catch in Vic (off a kayak) I reckon about the same dollar value of lost lures - but without the awesome sort of fish you catch. Keep up the great work, although we all may be having a break from fishing at the moment.
Love the way the others wait for you before first cast. Bet Dennis had to be tied down to stop him firing off too soon! Mate, when are you getting a new run of the 'Release rebuild' tees like the one you had on in the vid?
That was a fantastic video! Can I ask.... Is the drag cranked to the max to prevent the fish from going deep and breaking off? Why not a little drag to help the fight? And prevent getting pulled in.
If they can they'll run you straight into the reef. We used to hook them on our tuna gear and deadset most fights would last about 5 seconds! I wasn't locked here but at 25kg that fish couldn't take any drag, if he was 35kg+ he would have been able to take line at that setting forsure. The line I use I can fully lock drag and nothing will snap but like u say it gets a bit wild the tighter you go haha big pulled in! I'm yet to hook a monster but from what I've heard they'll spool you with locked drag when they get up over 65kg-70kg!
The fight from the thumbnail is at 2:39
Briggsy thanks
