    Great tutorial for me as a beginner, how much drag are you setting when popping (cast and recovery)?

    • @ebbtidetackle
      @ebbtidetackle  Рік тому +1

      Enough to get the hooks in! Fish as much as you can comfortably handle and drive them home hard. Setting hooks is critical

    Really helpful information! Helps out a lot. My brother and I are going on our first ever GT trip this October so we need every bit of info Haha. Do you have any suggestions on what poppers are easy to work for beginners in the GT-game?

    • @ebbtidetackle
      @ebbtidetackle  6 років тому

      Sami El Otmani where are you going? Need to know before I can answer that accurately;)

      EbbTideTackle we are going to Vava’u in Tonga. We will go by boat and we’ll also fish the ledges.

    • @ebbtidetackle
      @ebbtidetackle  6 років тому +1

      Sami El Otmani I’d recommend you start with some easy to work mid range poppers that hang in pretty easy from an elevated position - Heru Cubera, Skipjack and Tuna all fit the bill and won’t break the bank

    Cheers for the video, what sort of knot do you use on the poppers, do you have a ring or swivel or direct to the front?

    • @ebbtidetackle
      @ebbtidetackle  6 років тому

      Hi man - I use a double threaded uni to a NT Swivel, to a split ring - check out this one from about the 9 min mark ua-cam.com/video/g8M_qtaivsE/v-deo.html

    Another great vid in the series :D. How long to do you have your leaders?

    • @ebbtidetackle
      @ebbtidetackle  6 років тому

      Thank man! I run a pretty long leader, all the way to the reel. If you want to cast further run a shorter leader though, the knot through the guide takes off a bit.

    • @jdoes5590
      @jdoes5590 6 років тому

      Cheers mate, so for casting land-based where would you have the leader start, I have heard of people having them the knot just past the stripper guide or having the knot just in front of the reel? Does it make a significant difference?

    • @ebbtidetackle
      @ebbtidetackle  6 років тому +1

      Cheers for the question man - there is no doubt a long leader takes a few yards off the cast BUT for landbased GT's you need it because you will end up rubbing off with a short leader, there are so many chances to get shredded you just have to maximise that protection. I run my leader right to the reel.

      Sorry just got home after a busy Christmas all over the place. Cheers for the reply, that's a great answer and i hope it helps a few people out because i know i have read the same question on many forum posts, etc, but this definitely helps.
      Do you ever run a wire leader land-based when targeting Spanish and other pelagics?
      Sorry for all the questions but its great to be able to get info off guys with experience when you are just starting out on the land based scene :)
      Cheers again :)

    Great tutorials !! How long of a leader do you use for GT off the rocks?

    • @ebbtidetackle
      @ebbtidetackle  6 років тому

      Hey man - about 7 - 9 foot, much longer and it starts to become a handful for long casts

    • @MiltysAnglingAdventures
      @MiltysAnglingAdventures 6 років тому

      Thanks, I assume FG knot ? I like PR but only when i can do ahead of time. Upcoming Tuna trip out of a boat, the captain told me to use 30 foot leader which seems like alot to me,...not sure why it needs to be that long.
