    research would have avoided your regret. I think that the lidar is a great system. those small rig lens rings aren't worth it and contribute to bad calibration as well. when the focus motor starts calibration, they will move ever so slightly as well. the end stop options are great but not with those fitted rings as they lift them up from there contact on the lens hence the skipping. I would use those Endstops with a belt that is adjustable so you can tighten on the lens with the plastic end stops and make sure it doesnt move at all for a better system,

      Hey 👋, I own a few of those belt gear systems, I have the one that came with the Ronin and I have other brands, they actually aren't tighter than the small right rig ones, as they come in the diameter of your lens and they are made of a hard ruber so the fit very tight and don'ts slip. The issue is with the force of the grear against the lens, for the skipping teeth problem. You can see in the video that exactly. The second issue is the hard stop does not work if the gear ⚙️ is skipping. The lidar work fine on my cine lenses. From my testing I think the solution is to find a way to mount the focus motor with two points connected to the camera instead of the one rod, that should prevent the gear from skipping even on lenses with adapters.

    I think there is no need to use the Lidar with an AF lenses, it is meant for cinema lenses, try the cheaper ones, the 7artisans spectrum lens is an amazing lens for it’s price

    Well I found it helpful. There are a lot of people on YT (creators) claiming photo lenses can work with lidar autofocusing with a ring, which this video helps clarify that false narrative.

    • @Luiscameraman
      @Luiscameraman  5 місяців тому

      Yeah, with the current setup and the lack of ability to manually set end point. I would not risk using on a job... There is plenty of things to keep in mind as it is on shoots. If the equipment doesn't perform 100% right. In my opinion is not worth the stress it could create in the middle of a shoot. If you have manual cinema glass with hard stops it works perfectly.

  • @Jordancraigmiller
    @Jordancraigmiller 19 днів тому

    Why would you use Lidar on lenses that are already autofocus?

    • @Luiscameraman
      @Luiscameraman  8 днів тому

      Don't think you get how autofocus lenses work. the lens has part of the system, but if the camera is a video camera (Arri, Red, Blackmagic) the lens works as a manual lens. If you are shooting with a DSLR or Mirrorless (stills camera) they have the second part of the autofocus system, so those autofocus lenses work as intended.

    I have the same setup on the sigma 18-35 stills lens. It’s not skipping the gear and I have the end points set perfectly, but for some reason the focus is still off. I really can’t figure it out for the life of me

    • @Luiscameraman

    Bro! How do you mount the lidar shoe onto that cage? I've got the same one but I've been putting the lidar in the side cold shoe. I can't see how you're is set up.

    • @Luiscameraman
      @Luiscameraman  8 днів тому

      You need to take out the cold shoe out, just unscrew the tightening screw all the way and you can then mount to the cage with a screw instead of the cold shoe base

    Maybe it work on lenses like the RF’s, that have a very smooth/light focus ring?

    • @Luiscameraman
      @Luiscameraman  4 місяці тому

      I have been testing a new lens, but it's just not reliable if the lens does not have hard stops 😔. Like I got it to work with the sigma art 35 1.4 and it was keeping focus at 1.4, but I de-rigged the gimbal and added the lense again and the focus kept being just a tad off, like back focusing. With the samyag manual lenses with hard stops works well and is easy to reset with a new lens, so far I tried 50mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8 and both work well, sadly I don't own a 24mm or a 35 on those manual lenses so haven't been able to test them.

    C'mon, líder for a manual lens. Why don't you just get any focal lens.

    • @Luiscameraman
      @Luiscameraman  6 місяців тому

      Not sure if I understand your question correctly, but the reason I would prefer to use a zoom lens on the gimbal is that I would only have to calibrate the gimbal once and use multiple focal length within a shoot. So imo more efficient.

And when you finally said the reason for your regret, I literally rolled my eyes, lol... Not sure you understood the point of the video. I also have a set of primes and it works fine with them, as I say in the video, but, it would be very good if we could manually set endpoint allowing us to use also zoom lenses that haven't got hard stops. So a firmware upgrade would be the solution to make in this a better unit. 👍🏾
