  • Very rare footage of the Moodies playing three songs live in France in 1966 - I Really Haven't Got The Time, Life's Not Life and Bye Bye Bird.
    This features Mike Pinder, Denny Laine, RayThomas, Graeme Edge and Rod Clark who joined the band after Clint Warwick left, before Justin Hayward and John Lodge joined.
    Upscaled from a miniscule 352x288 resolution and colourised (as best I can!).

    R.I.P. Mike Pinder. He was the king of the meletron.

    my guess is that Ray, Mike, Graeme and the soon to be new members of the band took psychedelics about 6 months after this performance and a beam of light filled their heads with lots of new material and an entirely new way of looking at things.

      Rod has had a really interesting career - see themoodyblues.co.uk/rod.htm
      Will post some videos shortly from his 80th birthday gigs in Lowestoft held on 24&25th Nov 22.
      He actually wrote some of the songs (inc. Red Wine) incorrectly credited to Pinder/Laine on the Magnificent Moodies box set.

    Thank you, Tony. These were great - the original Moodies were a great blues band. Enjoyed seeing Rod Clark as well. He fit in just right with this group. Great energy. Interestingly, the Hayward/Lodge versions of these same early songs look and sound lifeless. But they made all the right songwriting moves to create the great band they eventually became.

    Awesome restoration Tony considering the source material. 1st version I had was all red and audio sounded like 12 generations down. I'll be watching for Rod's 80th bday footage. I have his 70th. That was a real treat with a Moodies connection besides Rod himself. Peter Trout, second drummer for the Electric String Band sits in for "Angela Jones."

    • @TonyBrown-MoodyBlues
      @TonyBrown-MoodyBlues  Рік тому +1

      Thanks. fortunately I didn't need to alter the audio from my copy. I used Corel Videostudio to convert 352x244 .MPG to 800x600 .MP4, then the amazing Topaz Video AI to upscale to 2560x1440 (I really recommend people check this software out), finally through Pixbim Video Colorize AI (not to everyone's taste I know). Topaz has a remarkable Photo AI tool too, it can re-generate high-quality faces and is mind-boggling!.
      Thanks for the heads-up - I just watched "Angela Jones" - Rod has not change one bit since then! (as a Meek fan, I used to be in touch with Michael Cox (who had a UK hit with this in 1960)).

    The voice of Denny Laine is far away from the beautiful one of Justin Hayward ! He sings wrong ☹️

    • @alternatemoodies5007
      @alternatemoodies5007 Рік тому +5

      Few would disagree (including myself) that Justin has one of the smoothest voices to come out of mid 20th century. Surely the love child of Johnny Mathis and Johnnie Ray. But to compare to Denny's vocal chops is akin to comparing apples to oranges. Denny is a blues singer with a raw edge. He can also sing effortlessly as a rocker, a folkie, a crooner, etc. In short, JH couldn't do justice to Go Now even if needles were stuck into his hands. Denny, on the other hand, has performed some awesome covers of Night In White Satin.
