The Lumix S Series gives creators a competitive alternative to over-priced brands especially now that the company is finally tackling the auto-focus issue. Camera industry is a scam. You will never get a camera that is perfect with it all. That would put the rest out of business and they don’t do that to eachother. They work together
There is no one perfect camera suitable for everyone, photographers / videographers have different needs. The idea that camera companies are working together and being upset about the wealth of technological marvels and tack sharp optics available in 2023 is ridiculous.
What nonsense. Just like exposure is always a compromise within the exposure triangle, camera features must always be a compromise between parameters. It means that different cameras can be perfect for different needs, and not good for others. For my needs the G9 is the perfect camera. It is the best camera I have ever used. But for your needs there will be a different camera that is ideal for your needs. The problem is too many people think that a single camera should do everything. That is impossible, and always will be impossible. The photographers who are happy with their cameras are the ones who understand their own vision and photographic needs. Those photographers are then able to find the camera that is perfect for them.
Kasey. (At 7:45 in the video). A crop factor of 1.22 is not a 22 % removal of length on the sensor (going from full size to cropped size). It is (1.0 - (1/1.22)) = 1.0 - 0.8197 = 0.18 = 18 % removal of length on the sensor. You have to know what is the bases for the percentage calculations.
@@cameraconspiracies Thanks for the response, Kasey. Yes, that's what you said. I believe that the correct statement that you should have said instead was: "The image crops in 1.22x. In other words 18%". (Meaning that the crop factor (big divided by small) is 1.22, and when cropping it crops away 18% (linearly) from the big one). You may strongly disagree, but consider what is the basis for the percentage calculation. For sensor crop factors the base is always the smallest sensor. But for percentage calculations the base is the one that you start from. In this case the bigger sensor. As another example (or analogy), let's assume that you talked about a larger crop, from full frame to m4/3, which is approximately crop factor = 2. Then (potentially your) incorrect statement would have been: "The image crops in 2.0x. In other words 100%." To crop away 100% (remove everything) is clearly not correct. Do you see how I arrived at this? Let's try with crop factor 1.99 instead of 2, then it's easier: "The image crops in 1.99x. In other words 99%." Cropping away 99% is quite drastic for m4/3. It's a loser format but not to such degree. (Sorry for trying 'loser' humor; you do it so much better!) The fact (which we all know, of course) is that a crop factor of 2 removes (crops away) 50% of the length of the bigger sensor, not 100% when going from the bigger to the smaller. The math is: (1.0 - (1/2.0)) = 1.0 - 0.5 = 0.5 = 50%. However, I know that Camera conspiracies is a comedy / humor channel (a very good one), and nobody expects mathematical accuracy. Panasonic S5II impressing again. As for your perfect camera (and possibly the perfect camera for those not needing high resolution), I'm thinking maybe an S1II or perhaps S1HII. 24 MP stacked sensor (same one in the A9II), ultra competitive price point of £3800/$3800. We know Panasonic won't skimp on video features and the stacked sensor should be able to support 4K120p and perhaps even 6K60P neither with crop. New PDAF but refined, low light AF refined, the GH6 ultra articulated screen and Pannyboy VLOG for those sweet sweet colours with the rec 709 LUT. A camera like that might be the new UA-camrs choice and would probably be the best camera on offer at that price point........till Sony come out with an A9III with a 33 MP stacked sensor with like a 1/500s readout speed lol.
The GH-6 lost your face three times during the intro. We have our answer. The R5's animal eye AF works all over the frame, including 4K/120. But that slo-mo is pixel binned and soft. The S5 II's AF is very sharp but restricted to the central area, so no ruling of thirds, doesn't work at HD/120, and 4K/60 is cropped. The GH-6 has great image quality but the AF hunts like Elmer Fudd. The A7S III has no video animal AF at all. The search for perfection continues. Please test the R6 II. It supposedly has upgraded AF along with HD/180.
Manual focus becomes second nature the more you do it. Often, it's faster to focus manually than to adjust autofocus settings. Therefore, I have to say that GH6 remains the first choice until Panasonic ups the specs on their phase detect cameras. That might be a while for them to catch up.
Kacey, you can actually get a nice slo-mo boost with optical flow in post on AE or Premiere. You can easily double the frame rate (or make it twice slower) without any glitches. I think you can turn 120 in 240 with great results. There is no good fix in post for a pulsing hunting focus or a low light tiny sensor stravaganza.
Funny video. Heads up for the "AF Bros", when going above 30P and HDMI out (monitor) you'll enter AF-C DFD mode, lose subject tracking, and shift off PDAF This is cited by Gerald Undone, and confirmed by Panasonic. It will likely be updated later given there aren't any sensor read limitations.
@@bystronphotovideo I am assuming anything above 30P. This also was recently confirmed in groups for lower resolutions as well (FHD 1080 50P switches to DFD).
My name is Damian and I'm a Panasonic fannyboy, I have dabbled in other eco-systems with limited success. Personally, the future is Panasonic for features value for money and would upgrade to Panasonic S5 II for the low light magic and keep all micro 4/3 lenses for a future 4/3 body with DPAF. Camera body's die and are reborn but light through a good lens is forever
Lol, how much I love your vlogs! Geese are nearby as well, and they usually hissss as well :) :) So, without shooting videos, which camera would you go for just for birding and macro photography? I would dearly appreciate your opinion! Thanks and best wishes from Uruguay! ps, for me IBis is a must for my shaky old hands!
Nice conversation with the horse by the way.. haha Seriously though great video I have a S1 and I love it and always believe that panasonic is superior in camera quality. I just wish they had more of stabilization like the smooth go pro 11 I have. Keep the good videos coming for 2023!
Question for the next Q&A: Could the S5ii become you're new wildlife camera? What are the pros and cons? You seems to enjoy it quite a lot and the color looks nicer than the A7siii
The image quality sharpness and color science of the GH6 blew the S5II away in every shot. I don't know if it was down to the leica glass you were using which i know does make a huge difference but if it was the camera, there ain't no autofocus in the world good enough for that tradeoff in sheer je ne sais quoi.
That is a great improvement. They also take your ancient slr or mirrorless for 300 euro at the moment. What is funny is how expensive fujifilm h2s looks now that panasonic is making this improvement in autofocus precision. The s5iix will be cheaper than the h2s and offer better image quality, better low light, better autofocus, good integrated cooling, and primes with motors and optics designed for video autofocus.
Wonder if Panasonic does not already have phase detection AF in their MFT cameras. Remember Olympus? They were able to add it to a pretty old camera via FW update. And blackmagic revealed that their cameras are recording gyro data. They kept it a secret until a few months ago. Cripple Hammer confirmed.
I find it hard to believe they won't add Phase Detect to the next GH cameras at the very least. Really hoping the reason there has been no news of another G9, is because they've been secretly working on Phase Detect in the next version. Adding PD focus through a firmware update would be great but probably wishful thinking. We'll see.
Both cameras have stunning picture quality , the af also is not so bad in the gh6 if they add phase detect gh6 sales will go up dramatically and the s5 will sell like fresh bread anyway
It sounds like the S5 II was struggling to see the squirrel when it was sitting still because it just looked like a black blob, but it knew it was an animal when it started moving and then the animal tracking kicked in.
I own GH5 GH6 and S5ii. Got a great deal to straight swap my GH6 to s5 + sigma 85mm f1.4. A cam is S5ii + Lumix S pro 28-70 B cam S5 + sigma 85mm C cam GH5 + speedbooster 18-35mm What do you think?
I see your tracking skills are improving. Also your in-studio footage is fantastic! Whatever is that combination lock it in!!! Well both cameras are great. Can’t go wrong with either but best to make a decision based on the lenses. Keep up the good work!
I’m generally with you wrt lenses being high priority. But I don’t generally rush out and buy the latest and greatest upon release. In this case, I’d wait a year and see what the lens situation is like for the S5 II. The improved autofocus is very compelling (almost a game changer) but I’m not going to assume the lenses I want/need will be there. ATM, I’m uncommitted to any system. Last year I financed a new Mac purchase with my credit card-right before interest rates went up 😢. (Variable rate cards suck when rates go up.) It’s going to be a while before that debt is paid down and I can even think about buying a new system.
I defy any camera - Sony, Canon or Nikon - to focus in the middle of the branches, and keep it still, a bird or some other animal. At the moment the only flaw of the 5s II or IIx is the 6k (full sensor recording) at 30p. We'll probably have to wait for the S1 II or IIx which has a more powerful engine to get 6K at 60p and maybe even decent slow motion.
I think Sony will do it easily. I started from a7c and now a7iv. I have focused my a7c at even harder situations and at night during my night street photography excursions.
@@leow5632 I agree that Sony has the best autofocus technology, but would have a hard time tracking a bird through dense tree branches. Unless you photograph a koala in manual focus. This is the gist of my thinking: at the moment there is no camera that can do birdwhatching in the thick bush. Let alone Panasonic....The IA technology undertaken by Sony is the way forward in the future. Even I, in Rome, enjoy myself at night, with all the precautions and it's better to have a friend nearby, to do street photography with Panasonic and Fuji sometimes in manual focus to get around the obstacle of the dark but if you want to seize the moment fleeing .... it is better that I leave it alone.

A camera like that might be the new UA-camrs choice and would probably be the best camera on offer at that price point........till Sony come out with an A9III with a 33 MP stacked sensor with like a 1/500s readout speed lol.
Awesome video mate... how did I miss this one... G9 user here... must wait for your prophesied G9ii (x)?
The shot at 07:56 is amazing
Just ordered the GH6 for $1,299 from B&H as an open box. Thanks for the review. I think it will be the best fit for me.
This is probably the funniest tech review I've ever seen 😂. I hate them both too. Which one do you go for? Panny boy, argh!!!!!
"...hunts like Elmer Fudd" 🤣😂🤣
I like your Elmer Fudd reference. Because Elmer can't catch anything?
The Panny boy had no trouble locking on in front of that wire fence 1:07 🤣
Nice hissing goose impression. What is this G9II that you speak of that I should be selling all my gear for?
Manual focus becomes second nature the more you do it. Often, it's faster to focus manually than to adjust autofocus settings. Therefore, I have to say that GH6 remains the first choice until Panasonic ups the specs on their phase detect cameras. That might be a while for them to catch up.
Really need an update to fix the punch in on the gh6 though. It's atrocious and a major step down from my g9
Magical imagery and narration!!!
Now you are giving me some ideas😯
13:24 actually one of the few creators who genuinely makes me laugh
11:13 I'm pretty sure you can make that tiny box larger, and move it with the joystick or with the finger on the screen, while recording.
That pony at 1:05 is definitely a Sony shooter!🤣
Sony a7iv and Lumix S5 ii which one do you prefer ?
Love your videos where photography and comedy mix together...
Love the female Common Merganser and male and female Wood Ducks in flight footage.
Wow! That dog was amazing. It looked like a little pony. I wonder what he's eating, 'cause I could use some of that energy.
Casey your comentary on this is world class. You're are the best my friend, never doubt this digital world we live in.
Nice music and camera comparison
Swan to goat pan!!! Genius my friend
That’s exact what I will do wait for a M43 camera with face AF. I have lots of lenses waiting for that camera
Did you get it? G9ii or GH7?
This is one of your best episodes ever.
GH6 25mp sensor + dynamic range boost + PDAF in GX body = Perfect Camera
This is the first video ive seen of yours... Instant sub... Hilarious
Above 30p or above 60p? Can I record 4K50fps with HDMI and Phase Detect?
@@bystronphotovideo I am assuming anything above 30P. This also was recently confirmed in groups for lower resolutions as well (FHD 1080 50P switches to DFD).
My name is Damian and I'm a Panasonic fannyboy, I have dabbled in other eco-systems with limited success. Personally, the future is Panasonic for features value for money and would upgrade to Panasonic S5 II for the low light magic and keep all micro 4/3 lenses for a future 4/3 body with DPAF. Camera body's die and are reborn but light through a good lens is forever
TBH the gh6 lowlight performance is really good
I really appreciate you seeking out a variety of animals. It's... I could watch it all day
Lol, how much I love your vlogs! Geese are nearby as well, and they usually hissss as well :) :) So, without shooting videos, which camera would you go for just for birding and macro photography? I would dearly appreciate your opinion! Thanks and best wishes from Uruguay! ps, for me IBis is a must for my shaky old hands!
What do you think of Canon 6D Mark2 for video?
I buy both through your links, boss.
SOME OF THOSE SHOTS
BROUGHT OUT THE
PERSONALITY OF EACH
ANIMAL AND THEIR SOUL.
I'm crying over the description of how the evil goose hissed!
Frame rates aren't there in 4k.
@@officialtiimo That's what Topaz AI is for. We need to stop chasing 4K120+
Some of the best wildlife video you’ve done. Granted they’re not flying around… but still. Panasonic is the future….
Thanks for yet another injection of GH camera magic
The image quality sharpness and color science of the GH6 blew the S5II away in every shot. I don't know if it was down to the leica glass you were using which i know does make a huge difference but if it was the camera, there ain't no autofocus in the world good enough for that tradeoff in sheer je ne sais quoi.
Well done Panny Boy, well done
why not using 50mm prime lens too in S5 II ?
We'll see.
First off, as far as I've been told, the phase detect hardware has to be there on the sensor in order to support a firmware implementation...
@@GrayGhostDog1 True. Also means there will be less pixels available on the sensor for gathering light when they are used for AF.
waiting for this title servel days, subscribed!
New sigma 60-600 dg dn os sports is basically native lens on S5 II. If I hadn't have R5 and the old DSLR version already, I would buy it right away.
What were those settings again?
Best comparison review ever!! And great entertainment of course.
Good job Panyboy, that's a good sign for the future cameras (hopefully for a new GH also). 👏👍
Good quality content man, thank you!
A cam is S5ii + Lumix S pro 28-70
B cam S5 + sigma 85mm
C cam GH5 + speedbooster 18-35mm
What do you think?
In answer to your question I ordered the S5 Mk II through your link.
Please vlog with that FF 20mm kit lens at f/3.5 on the S5ii. You’ve been asking for this stabe, wider lens and a bit of Toneh for a while.
Awesome video! Thanks for the information! 📸😎👍🏻
Now they need a MFT to L Mount adaptor and an MFT crop mode.
Is that the high-park petting zoo?
Imagine the first Firmware update for the S5II, Panny gives the best updates
I just got the gh5m2 for a very good price What cinema lense do you use? Can I afford it?
Can GH6 take regular pictures?
I'm buying G9 ii with face Detect 😁 I have many lenses and no Body at the moment 😅 thanks for the lovely content
Riverdale Farm! That's in a nice area.
G9 mk ii, please!
Can the s5ii be used as a Web cam over US 🐝?
