Yea. I been with GH5 since day one and thinking about something new. There's just no way I could leave Panasonic at this point. Everything from lenses to mounts will have to be overhauled.
Tip for manual focus on Panasonic- use a monochrome screen and red peaking. I use a GX85 as an everyday carry camera (smaller than my G9) and a lot of vintage lenses. This camera has HORRID peaking but this combo salvages it. Even with its EVF with less than 1M pixels.
CC has the best duck, squirrel, woodpecker and pigeon content on YT! The way you add comments to the footage is amazing, could watch hours of a woodpecker just staring at a tree trunk!
You KNOW the Panny Boy will forever be in your heart, buddy. PS: The "little bug" is a Devil's Coachhorse beetle. Not only will he survive the winter, he DOES, most definitely bite! As well as exhuding a foul smelling substance from his abdomen as a defence mechanism.
I am far from an expert at cameras. My first camera was a Sony a6400, and I upgraded to the Panasonic Lumix gh6. I love the lumix, I like the color, the functions, and pretty much everything about it. Yes, the autofocus is lacking, but I am a huge fan of manual focus, especially for my insect macro photography. Thing is, to my understanding Cinema cameras don't have auto focus. I don't think the black magic cameras have autofocus. Sony arguably has the best auto focus, but so long as your primary objective is not autofocus, I feel like the gh6 was a great purchase, at least for me. Now, I'm not a fanboy and it doesn't hurt my feelings that some people don't like this camera, and as the theme song was suggest, there is no perfect camera. But so far, this seems to be the best thing for the buck for me, and I am enjoying it. Love the channel
@@AndrisLelisTravelChanel the GH6 is my first Panasonic ever, it's just the one i bought. No real reason other than it was the newest available at the time and I was slightly excited about some of the features.
The haters of M43 system harp endlessly about AF. And usually test it in extremely challenging situations. He stupidly compared 300p hd from Gh6 with 4k 120p from the Sony. The feature set on the Gh6 is far more mature and generous too. Lenses, especially telephoto, are 1/2 the price, weight and size. Superb image from 5.7k prores or 800mbs h.264/5. Love the timecode and other options too. GH6 IS 1/2 THE PRICE…go figure.
I just bought one and it's not a youtubers camera it's a cinema rig and it's not even marketed as a VLOG camera. In the rig setup that I had for it, it's a beast. I just bought one mint used on amazon cheapest in the country for $950. I am loving it. The colors the recording formats the ISO limiter , lots of awesome features for a pro user.
Honestly, gh6 just looks better, sony has more toneh but its more "meh", idk. Also its strengths are more outside wildlife, 10-25 25-50 f1.7, 42.5 1.2, 9mm 1.7...
Interesting that you are willing to give up on it without getting the 9mm for Vlogging. If the GH6 isn't the right tool for you, you should sell it. It is the right tool for me. I work through its weaknesses, because the footage out of that camera is amazing.
I mean it’s just what he does, use camera for a month or two, say it’s amazing, say it’s got issues, say your selling it, sell it, buy camera you trash talked before, repeat. That’s okay tho, this is a comedy show before a camera show.
@@RhettThompsonFilm Yeah, I know Kasey's business model quite well. It's too bad though, even with its quirks, the GH6 does a lot for the money and a lot of these youtubers crap all over it for its poor (compared to other brands) AF. It is a film/documentary maker's dream and with the right glass, truly sings.
Let me just say this, I have to agree and disagree with you on some points: - I own the GH6 too and the FX30 (used to have the A7SIII), I love the colors on the GH6, the Sony colors are not great, they've improved that's for sure, but the GH6 image is so pleasing in almost every situation, minimal color grade is needed. - The battery life sure is not amazing, my G9 lasted double of 1 battery on the GH6, but keep in mind that you're pushing higher specs on the GH6, specially the stabe, on my Sony is a joke in comparison, and you know this. - The 4k 120p I feel its on the same level of quality if not better than the A7SIII (from what I see in the footage I have, and some you showed) - the manual focus I have to sadly agree there, its not the sharpest sure, I've talked to Lumix about it, I feel my G9's view finder was sharper to be honest, or atleast the Image looked sharper, wish they fix this because yes, sometimes I'm second guessing too. but overall I love my GH6, I've tried several systems and models, and the GH6 keeps confirming how amazing it is, I'm happy owning both Sony and Panasonic, best of both worlds, and I feel you're just making excuses in somethings to sell it, sure do what you want its you money but those quirks are easy to live with, the A7SIII has a lot of stuff I don't like and its better on the FX30 even, and again, if M4/3 is on par with a FF and its better then some FF on the market, that says a lot, I say keep the GH6 its a wonderful camera and I use it for work (commercials, social media jobs, short films) and as a Hobby I use it for Wildlife too.
The GH6 offers superior handheld footage. Most of your A7siii videos are shakier, the video from m4loser is more watchable because it doesnt shake. And the image quality is similar. (Watching in a 4k monitor)
Keep it. Filming birds is always difficult as they're small, unpredicable and fast. No camera will nail focus 100%. It would be a shame to lose the sharp and clean footage of the GH6 + Panaleica.
“Dream camera with quirks” is absolutely accurate re: GH6. It really does produce your best-looking studio footage, though! Hopefully you can sort out a focus strategy for wildlife - v. demanding given the narrow DoF you’re working with.
You mentioned you're looking for greener grass..... It'd Dec 31st and I need someone to mow the lawn... It's still green and still growing in Nova Scotia.
The best reason for a Panasonic camera must be the “open gate” sensor to film videos for 16:9, 1:1 and 9:16 at the same time. That is really intriguing to me. Never used it. Only once borrowed a GH2 in 2013 for a shoot and it was looking better and was more fun to use than my Sony camera. But that’s years ago back then Panasonic had better auto focus as neither Canon nor Sony had trustworthy autofocus 😂
I think you can replicate that look by putting a dark green mist filter or use software to do it. Yes, It's cinematic but the color is wonky. Black ain't black anymore, red becomes radioactive red-orange
@@trym2121 You may be right, I'm not a colours expert. Nevertheless, I would still choose the GH6 footage over the others, not only for the colours but for the overall look, as the right amount of sharpness for me (probably that's the lenses merit, I don't know). I'm a fuji user, just to keep my thoughts from being misinterpreted for fanboy stuff.
@@trym2121 curious your thoughts on other camera systems’ color science? Cuz looking at the gh6 footage I can definitely see what you’re saying. Maybe the only option is black magic 😂
There is something special about Panasonic images. Maybe it has something to do either the pride of getting a shot in focus I’m leaning more toward Sony APSC over Panasonic micro 4/3, with the goal of getting Sony full frame
As a professional videographer, I’ve loved using my S5. The new Panasonic pro lenses work pretty well for AF - at least for a Panasonic. It’s not good for wildlife, though. 10bit V-log colors look great to me. Definitely has its drawbacks. I keep cheering for Panasonic to get better now that I bought into the system but I anticipate I’ll continue to be disappointed
As soon as Kasey buys a camera we all start the timer until he makes a video about how much he needs to sell it because it no longer measures up. This has gotten so predictable that I am finally understanding that it is his deliberate strategy to drive views through trashing every camera on the planet, past, present, and future. I have already started a timer to count down until he posts a video of 5 reasons not to buy a Panasonic GH23, or a Canon R17, or a Fuji XT37 and a half. He would complain about the future Nikon, but we all know that they accidentally invented a space-time bending machine while trying to outdo Sony autofocus and they inadvertantly transported their factory into another dimension and they cannot figure out how to transport their futuristic cameras back to Earth because the janitor insists that the correct code is MIRRORLESS-D850 but none of the engineers believe him and they keep trying to punch in Pi but they can never get to the end of it to find out it is the wrong code.
All of the Panasonic footage looks absolutely amazing though... Waaay more beautiful footage than the Sony's. Not a Pany user, but honestly tempted after seeing this
As a videographer primarily the lag you describe at 6:50 would absolutely kill me…but in 10 months of using this camera professionally, extremely regularly, I have never ever experienced that.
the way you use AF with Panasonic is leave it in MF and use back button focus to get in focus, then forget it, and hope the subject doesn't move. Also clearly pannyslowmo is a lot better than the A7S3 which costs twice as much when it comes to 240p.
Just bought the R6mkii after using the original R6 for almost 2 years. The lack of custom video modes made me so frustrated for my little run and gun automotive channel. Hope to see you do more canon stuff. The R is still a great camera imo.
And now serious. With busy back/foreground I find AF pulsing on GH6 really bad. But maybe the solution for that would not be MF but some implementation of AF-S with back button refocusing and very small AF area. Something that would keep the focus locked and engaged at will.
Apart from the missing viewfinder which is probably a big deal, the FX30 with the 11mm 1.8 and the 70-350mm is probably pretty close to what you are looking for. The crop in 4k120p isn’t bad for wildlife, animal eye detect autofocus, good stabilization(compared to other Sony cameras, not compared to Panasonic or Olympus) and very compact. If you want maximum reach you could throw the 200-600 on there. And a lens like your 20mm f1.8 would be nice for the studio on it. But, it’s a probably a pretty boring camera, coming from the A7S III with nothing really new and exiting, so I get ya. I’d love to see your take on a blackmagic cinema pocket though.
I'm not really a fan of Panasonics with the tiny sensor and unreliable autofocus. But I don't think there's anything wrong with the color science. Granted I don't use video much so it's not a major concern, but it doesn't look completely wrong like it does with Sony. Cannon is nice, but it does tend to come out warmer than you expect. I think you are just a fan of the warmer look.
I have a lessor Panasonic and agree. It's a software issue in their scene-detect that they could fix. I've had the same issue not being able to video red flowers. My friend in Tokyo works at Canon on AF lenses. Another did work at Sony. We could probably try to organise a meeting at Panasonic in Japan and explain how to fix it. I'm going back to Japan in a few months. How is your tolerance to Sushi?
Weight, button feedbacks, Focusing in general, battery life, missing double iso, weird new menu hud but still my go too for most of my shoots, guess i'll hybernate myself till the mk2 version comes out
I sold my GH5 to get the GH6...I did not like it and returned it. Then there was a fantastic deal on the GH6. I purchased it again...but I'm scratching my head as my A7siii clearly outperforms it. Most of my time is spent playing with my new little baby X100v...not sure why I need the middle GH6. Considering selling it too if I was not so heavily invested in the lens.
NOBODY, NOBODY compares to this dude! Always enjoyable content. 👍👊 Yeah, Panny needs to step up their game, with regards to AF. I generally find their color science to be Ok Many sources claim the highly regarded sensor on the old Nikon D700, was made by Panasonic? I don't know, but that sensor and camera were a jewel. ‘Ordinary Filmmaker’ has a video out saying Panny may be releasing a new AF system. I would think they would have the technical prowess, and be able to come out with a game changer? We will see. 👍✌
God! Kasey cannot settle on any camera that's closer to being perfect, can he? 😀 I thought he is finally done with three camera setup but he is still debating 😀😀😀
@@Visual_GhoulNo offense intended but is 'Ghoul'(species of fantasy nature) your real name or a spelling mistake?😀 Yeah, I agree with your point though. I think he wil be only satisfied when Sony, Canon and Panasonic merge and make his perfect camera.
Try the R6 Mark II with the RF 100-400. The lens is a little slow but I hear good things about it. The camera's eye AF is allegedly better than the R5 and original R6 and slo-mo is up to HD/180. I'm sure there's still plenty about it to rip.
The GH6 does seem to have a mind of its own. When I'm on location shooting models, it's fine for most of the day and then at the end of the day it's like the camera is as tired as I am and gets laggy with focus, doesn't respond as fast. Super annoying. Love your videos btw! You're hilarious :-D.
10:00 - "What does Panasonic have that full frame is lacking?" 1) Effective Stabilization; 2) a fair and equitable comparison - HD 300p (Panny) vs 4k 120 (Sony)? LOL. C'mon now
You have to buy the Panasonic 100-400 or the Olympus 300 F4 for the GH6. Im always combining Olympus Lenses wtih Panasonic Bodys. "Best of both worlds." 200 mm simply isnt enogh for what you are doing.
I literally watch now to see how long it is before you hate a camera... I think it will be the other way around with black magic, I started off hating it then grew to love it!
Casey, you might try Olympus 300 with OIS only, it should be good enough. Also please don't put anything for comparison to the right side of the screen, I've smashed my screen there.
@@excalibro8365 Oly 300 is significantly smaller than the sony and for the build quality, weather sealing and great image quality I wouldn't call it expensive
Just now I was on Amazon checking on prices for the gh6 and saw the S5 is also on sale. $1497 for body only and there was also an error where they had an S5 with 85mm f1.8 for the same $1497!
Is the new released Olympus OM-1 far better than Lumix GH6 in terms of those 5 things that you have mention? I am interested to buy a M43 camera (again) but have not yet made decision. The last M43 camera I used is the Lumix GH3.
The GH6 has THE BEST focus assist out there! I love that you can focus-zoom while recording so I use manual focus ALL the time just for that! It let's you get things focused perfect everytime! The GH6 is the ONLY camera that I know of that does this! And with the 9mm lens I believe it is a vloggers dream camera.
Panasonic GH6 do u know if it can do video dual card backup as cant find it anywhere also Leica 200mm f2.8 do u know any cheaper tripod leg for the lens as did not get one with mine
Can't afford the Leica very happy with my regular Panasonic 25 and a bunch of TT artisan manual focus since I'm old that's how I do things mostly I also use the 12 to 32 Panasonic from logging and it's quite Sharp on my g95 which is still so heavy compared to my G7 but it's the better cam
Casy for at least the last two years. You have designed you videos. That are truly conflicting in nearly every way. That only leads both un knowledgeable. And knowledgeable viewers, being more lost and confused. Then what they originally were. Or becoming both lost and confused. After watching a percentage of your videos.
Sad face. I just got a panasonic gh6, new, for $1200. Turns out I should've just kept on doing phone video. Every UA-cam review talks about how much worse this camera is than every pther camera. Worse than 10 year old phones.... Oh well, if i never open it, maybe I can get my money back... I was super excited for internal prores, :(
@@cameraconspiracies I didn´t know, just seen that you did now. I just commented because it sounded like you thought Panasonic only did MFT sensors. Thanks for the heart :)
Do yourself and buy the Phantom LUTs pack. You won’t complain about Sony’s color science ever again. That, and get yourself the Calibrite Color Checker Passport for accurate WB and skin tones.
Have you ever tried using back button AF (either by itself or in conjunction with manual adjustment) on your Pannys? If not, it may change your feelings on the operating experience. And yes, definitely try the monochrome live view with peaking, it makes it so much easier.
Definitely check out the R6ii next. It's expensive, but it's the only thing that will beat your a7s iii. Feels like you've tried everything else, and it's pretty clear you won't get any improvements from Sony unless you go canon or nikon. And the only reason to go nikon these days imo is if you want an affordable native pro prime, and sacrifice some AF. Just go R6ii man! Can't wait till you try out the glorious eye AF. It's magic! Honestly my heart goes out to all the Panasonic wildlife shooters. Y'all have more patience and dedication than I ever will be. AF is a no compromise thing for me, period!
from what i'm seeing, the Canon R6ii shoots only in H.264/H.265/MPEG-4 codecs? Two of those are really hard to edit smoothly on a PC, especially if you're trying to shoot 4k 422 10-bit. MOV and ProRes on the GH6 are fantastic to edit with. Editing choppy footage might be even more painful than a out of focus duck.
@spruceguse yeah I mean for him the R6ii is an even more expensive upgrade since he'll probably need to buy an rtx 3000 or something to put his PC up to date. Which sucks for sure but I guess those codecs aren't gonna change and you'd probably need to update your PC eventually anyway. Since he's been dabbling with topaz video AI anyway for example, a better gpu upgrade just for that is entirely justified imo. I guess my main point is not that he should definitely upgrade, just that upgrading to anything that doesn't have good animal eye af these days is simply a bad purchase decision in general. He can keep what he has now, nothing wrong with that. The GH6 ain't bad if you have it, but I would never recommend it to a new buyer for wildlife. I mean an oof shot is a missed shot, no other way around it...
@@simonthibodeau7082 GH6 for wildlife, yeah I don't see that being a good investment. But GH6 for small crew filmmaking, business content creation, even documentary, is a yes in my book. Anything where you have some ability to be close to subjects, and control.
Guys I questons! which brand's menu is the best? Panasonic?Om System? Nikon? Sony? I want buy a good camera for wildlife and nature photography..but know which brands menü is the easiest. 🙏😁Plllls heeeeelp🙈
If you have 1-zone AF, but S-AF and not conituous video AF, (in Pana, CAF and video continuous AF are different!), then focus acquisition should be fine. but if the subject moves... goodbye! ;-)
I would be interested in the performance of the Nikon Z cameras from your standpoint. So far I was never impressed by any AF and I am happy with manual focusing with my Leica bodies. I just like to be in total control and not be controlled by stupid automatic shit.
Literally just purchased the cheap ass Sony ZV-E10 to play with for my armchair vlogs and the real time animal Eye AF that you mentioned that they have apparently just added with the latest software update. Why it isn’t in the A7s is beyond me. Hopefully it should be here today,oh btw i purchased it through your affiliate links, good deal too. Keep up the good work you blurry loser.😂
Jeez, the DOF in that winter bug clip was just a sliver! Is the common denominator that non-full frame systems have their issues in terms of AF when you have few Tonehs? Are the Sony reptiles sabotaging the sensors they give to the others? LOL! Have a great day!
Great content as always 🙂 Don't forget you can get a little extra reach using the PIXEL/PIXEL mode when shooting in 4k and under. I find it impossible to spot focus without changing the peaking colour and sensitivity. Also if you drop the frame rate down a little you can use the Animal AF features.
You are too hard on the sony colours, I think it looks great when you swithced to your sony. It could be nice to see if you try the sony a7 IV with animal detect :)
He was joking because he said a few seconds later that "It probably looks better." But traditionally Sony has had some wonky colors. They seem to be better with their newer cameras and lenses.

The sharpness of the Sony is magical, but the colour science of the GH6 means that the cinema is truly ours with the Panny-boy.
CC has the best duck, squirrel, woodpecker and pigeon content on YT! The way you add comments to the footage is amazing, could watch hours of a woodpecker just staring at a tree trunk!
You KNOW the Panny Boy will forever be in your heart, buddy.

Love the channel
but why not LumixS5???

Give the 100-400 a second chance. It's not perfect but shooting at 800mm equivalent handheld is powerful. And I agree, that record delay is brutal.
I notice the delay sometimes with my G9 even but never noticed it with the GX85.
Why do you care what Kasey thinks? He's just some dude on the internet. It's a fantastic lens
Brilliant! You've captured 4k 120 footage of the elusive Canadian Arm Perching Pigeon!
I tried to follow in the journey for the perfect camera but the whiplash killed me. I’m dead.
Honestly, gh6 just looks better, sony has more toneh but its more "meh", idk.
Also its strengths are more outside wildlife, 10-25 25-50 f1.7, 42.5 1.2, 9mm 1.7...
Screw the content, I just love your delivery of it, informative but also amusing, a tricky thing to do.
Let me just say this, I have to agree and disagree with you on some points:
- I own the GH6 too and the FX30 (used to have the A7SIII), I love the colors on the GH6, the Sony colors are not great, they've improved that's for sure, but the GH6 image is so pleasing in almost every situation, minimal color grade is needed.
- The battery life sure is not amazing, my G9 lasted double of 1 battery on the GH6, but keep in mind that you're pushing higher specs on the GH6, specially the stabe, on my Sony is a joke in comparison, and you know this.
- The 4k 120p I feel its on the same level of quality if not better than the A7SIII (from what I see in the footage I have, and some you showed)
- the manual focus I have to sadly agree there, its not the sharpest sure, I've talked to Lumix about it, I feel my G9's view finder was sharper to be honest, or atleast the Image looked sharper, wish they fix this because yes, sometimes I'm second guessing too.
but overall I love my GH6, I've tried several systems and models, and the GH6 keeps confirming how amazing it is, I'm happy owning both Sony and Panasonic, best of both worlds, and I feel you're just making excuses in somethings to sell it, sure do what you want its you money but those quirks are easy to live with, the A7SIII has a lot of stuff I don't like and its better on the FX30 even, and again, if M4/3 is on par with a FF and its better then some FF on the market, that says a lot, I say keep the GH6 its a wonderful camera and I use it for work (commercials, social media jobs, short films) and as a Hobby I use it for Wildlife too.
Those are some beautiful Panny shots. Never leave!
The GH6 offers superior handheld footage. Most of your A7siii videos are shakier, the video from m4loser is more watchable because it doesnt shake. And the image quality is similar. (Watching in a 4k monitor)
The lantern of light. Keep it. It’s glorious 🌞
Keep it. Filming birds is always difficult as they're small, unpredicable and fast. No camera will nail focus 100%. It would be a shame to lose the sharp and clean footage of the GH6 + Panaleica.
Kasey should go shooting with another bird photographer to grasp the amount of patience it requires.
0:29 Great young Dave Grohl impression.
“Dream camera with quirks” is absolutely accurate re: GH6. It really does produce your best-looking studio footage, though! Hopefully you can sort out a focus strategy for wildlife - v. demanding given the narrow DoF you’re working with.
8:33 "The 100-300 is a ghetto unsharp lens." Great description. 😄
I think the GH6 produced the nicest footage I have seen in your channel so far. Even indoor for vlog I find it better than Canon
Going to have to agree here
I think you can replicate that look by putting a dark green mist filter or use software to do it.
Yes, It's cinematic but the color is wonky. Black ain't black anymore, red becomes radioactive red-orange
@@trym2121 You may be right, I'm not a colours expert.
I am far from a pro but have had some success with improving manual focus by using the electronic zoom feature.
I've heard Olympus, due to their sushi credentials, have superior animal eye detect autofocus for fish and other aquatic animals
No, it is rice AF and seaweed AF that they are best at.
lmao. One of your best videos yet. Don't ditch the Micro Four Third Loser camera yet!
Not a Pany user, but honestly tempted after seeing this
Any chance you can find out what is going on with the pigeon man?
As a videographer primarily the lag you describe at 6:50 would absolutely kill me…but in 10 months of using this camera professionally, extremely regularly, I have never ever experienced that.
the way you use AF with Panasonic is leave it in MF and use back button focus to get in focus, then forget it, and hope the subject doesn't move. Also clearly pannyslowmo is a lot better than the A7S3 which costs twice as much when it comes to 240p.
Just wait for the specs on the R5 mkii, we may be getting something at least only a few years behind the latest competition
cool. I still have a gh5 and gh4. Maybe in 2023 we will pick it up. best reason is the cool lenses that you can get with Panasonic.
Overexpose the squirrel in that instance...OVEREXPOSE.
Turn sensitivity down and speed down, less pulsing
The grass is always greener...
Yeahhh I’m good with the 6. Autofocus is not a must for me at all. Thing works like a champ and a beater.
woah! you get a waveform graph on Panasonic?
pretty sweet.
I love that Panasonic is like...recording limits??? Psht...who do we look like...Canon and Sony???
Some of those early Canon PowerShot pocket cameras had great features not even available anymore.
