Welcome To The Panasonic Era: S5 II vs Sony & Canon
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 січ 2023
- Panasonic S5 II review. Panasonic finally adapts phase detect autofocus, is it Sony level? Better than Canon dual pixel AF? Is the Panasonic S5ii the best budget full frame camera system? The specs are a little dated for 2023. How does this compare to the Sony A7 IV or A7S III? Or Canon R6 II or EOS R? Test the S5 II for vlogging, youtube studio, slow motion etc. Stabilization with the 18mm f1.8 and 24mm f1.8 primes. Best camera for L mount.
Video coming soon with S5 II vs GH6 for wildlife videography.

A pony which carries Phase-detect before it would be invincible
10:31 Remember that Sigma will convert their E-mount lenses to L-mount if you switch
Hundreds of millions of doses of vax administered, essentially a teeny tiny protein shot, and you let that stop you from seeing Japan for free? With all of the other insane dietary nonsense you do to yourself, you're afraid of a tiny protein jab? LOL
Both you and Gerald have me sold on these Panasonics. I'm almost fifty, and lost faith in Panasonic electronics years ago. Now I'm reconsidering my understanding of the world. The only question that remains is how well these do when adapted to the EF Lens. I have a 10-18mm, 24mm, Sig 18-35mm, 50mm 1.4, 85mm 1.4, and Sig 150-600mm. I do not want to replace the glass.
im so happy casey - your almost perfect camera is coming from panasonic. imma wait for the s5iix tho for the ff4k60 goodness
Time to update the perfect camera song with your newest demands, maybe in another 3 years panny will listen and deliver.
Panasonic sent you an advance review copy!? You're officially a big-time gear reviewer. Congrats! Yours is the review I most want to see.
if only they sent him a plane ticket to japan also, the footage of him messing around in Tokyo what was excite me most when i saw the thumbnail XD
Our boy made it!
@@MuhammadKharismawan They invited him - but he stuck to his guns and didn’t get the jab so he couldn’t go
Bruh they need all the eyes they can get lol
Then dont watch Herold Undone ser
It takes a lot of courage to send Casey a camera for review, big respect to Panasonic.
Daym, das some good camera features. Finally, penny! Challenging Casey review even!
Yea, they took a risk..
But the reward is having the consent of the realist reviewer in the game! 😁
You are batshit crazy (in a great way), but somehow your tests are more thorough and real-world than any other reviewers online. Appreciate the passion.
Out of all the S5 II videos in my feed right now, yours is what I'm most excited for. This camera looks like a hell of a bargain and hopefully helps Panasonic gain some much needed mind share alongside market share.
Thought so too but it seems to lag way behind sony/canon. Toneh couldn't get a dog, himself or a lens held up to the camera in focus. An upgrade but lots of situations will still be mf only.
Same
@@fredriksvard2603 Yup. Fortunately for me I have no intention of upgrading from my G9 (in fact still using my GX85 lots of times) at least until the next decade. So maybe I'll get the Mk3? The AF system will be perfected, more features, more lens option. I'll have a lot more money too to get into FF then. We'll see...
I know there's not a lot of people in my corner when I say this, but I love panasonic colors, they're the best for me. More content with this camera PLEASE!
Get back in the corner 😂
There’s a ton of people in your corner including me
V-log > anything else. It's damn close to the Arri Alexa.
cmon, Panasonic just fight with noise in blue channel (most trouble CMOS sensor part ) by lowering it especially in dark areas, that is all "science", all know that. Now with Sony sensor with low noise Panasonic keep doing that just by mental inertia. Famous brown Panasonic. Maybe next generation gear will finally relax this long overdue overengeneering of 2000.
@@AABB-px8lc sorry man, the green stuff in skin tones from sony is really annoying for me...
My respect for Panasonic increased now that they give you the camera to test! Really nice!
That autofocus was pretty damn impressive.
@No Espam Mustve been a lot of seppuku deaths at Panasonic this past decade then.
@@DrWNoLs a damn genocide
@@DrWNoLs
Why you think it took Pannyboy 50 years to implement proper focus? All their best engineers committed sepuku and thrown into Tokyo bay, I hear there 70000 Panny engineers laying in Tokyo bay.
lol there’s so much seppuku in this thread…
@@DrWNoLs Fuji’s somewhere in the middle lol
The cripple hammer caught me off guard this time 😂😂😂 Congrats getting a camera on release!
it is so incredible. Seems like the perfect camera!
Gerald Undone also telling that the AF is better than Canon's and similar to Sony. Josh did a detailed test with a7iv and panny boy does clearly the better job focusing looking more organic.
they started from 0 and immediately are on top. crazy times!
Panasonic now has the camera we’ve all been wanting.
The songs😂😂😂"I want to focus on your eyeball but you jump back and forth and say it's my fault." Waiting for the album
The shocker is not that Panasonic can finally autofocus, it is that you got an early copy of the camera!
Panasonic were always very fast and accurate. In single point mode.
they cant af..not even close..in 120 fps not at all...they have the new focus-wobble..advanced pulling..not my cup of tea to tell you the truth
That video is just awesome. Incredible fun to watch. Love your work. Real testing in front of the camera - superb. And the songs....! Your voice to that is the icing on the cake.
What I always liked about Panasonic cameras is their cinematic look out of the box.
This, even old g7,gh3-4 ,has so
Much cinematic look compared to to even todays cameras
It's over for the system jumpers and job hopper scrubs. Been using Panasonic mirrorless since 2014, specifically MFT. Never "switched" to anything else. Panasonic just keeps getting better while Sony and Canon get worse with fake APS-C "lineups" (Panasonic actually has two camera mount lines fleshed out), while Nikon cowers in the shadows (the Z9 was an accident) and Fuji pretends to be good with their inconsistent lens lineup (no matching sets of lenses) using lenses that make autofocus sounds like a Canon T2i. Panasonic lenses don't pulse with focus breathing that Sony and Canon "fix" with digital crops because video is an afterthought with every major brand except Panasonic. Using GH5 II until GH7 comes out. The next major MFT camera from Panasonic will crush Sony full frame in usability while Olympus keeps making sushi and wondering why they are out of business. Admit it, Panasonic is our only hope for video shooters who know the value of a built in waveform monitor (lol Canon turns off all exposure assist tools when you hit record to remind you of the Cripple Hammer's power), vectorscope (another aid in setting white balance), luminance spot meter (useful for middle grey and 90% IRE in video etc), actually good video encoding (disgusting macro blocking artifacts in Sony when recording a forest prior to A7S III era), quality audio preamps, no exposure stepping when using auto exposure in video (eeww Fuji you're like a flip phone from 2004), linear manual focusing on fly by wire lenses, solid stabilization (not fake EIS Active SteadyShot that falls apart when shutter speed is "cinematic"), shutter angle (lets you change frame rate and motion blur remains consistent automatically), an amazing piece of technology called a cooling fan, anamorphic view assist, practical video modes like 6K rather than rediculous 8K marketing talking point for the scrubs to drool at while they waste time making proxies and wondering if Nikon fleeced them, insanely good customizability, and now respectable video autofocus. I could go on and on. Panasonic isn't perfect but like Gerald Undone said about the S5 II in his review, it's the least amount of compromising. Way to go Panasonic, great job :)
Running across the street with a cam in each hand in slow mo.. classic
I am so glad they gave you this camera to test out! This was some of the best fun I've had using a camera for a while. You can no vlog in 5.9k 17x9 aspect ratio haha. :)
Blown away by the video quality and the fact you made the music to boot. Seriously impressive. Very informative and entertaining. Subscribed!
I feel like your channel has been building toward this EXACT moment. Congratulations on getting the pre-release copy man! I hope you can keep it or buy one.
Dude I love you. Your channel is such a tonic after endless dry reviews.
S5 II looks great. Now need more L lens (affordable).
Not an 8 or $900 18mm.
Maybe this is the camera that will convince tamron to make for L mount? Exciting thought.
Looks good, I'll wait for the upcoming S5IIx in May.
This was amazing to see the actual comparisons equally. Thank you for this! Also I subscribed just cause you were brave enough to NOT be injected with experimental things AND to be open about it. kudos. Also your song! yes!
Holy shit they sent you a review copy? That’s great!
I’m not even interested in camera gear anymore, I’m happy with the glass and body that I have. But I still watch your videos because honestly you’re great. Glad to see it looks like you’re moving up ❤
The Canon Cripple Hammer attacking the Panasonic Pony of Hope because it was in focus was hilarious btw
Congratulations Kasey! Been watching for years even though I’m a photographer. You are most entertaining. If all the s52 content that dropped I watched yours first
CASEY I'M SO PLEASED YOU GOT YOUR HANDS ON ONE FOR RELEASE DAY! This is superb, I've just come from Gerald Undone's video... HE DIDN'T DO THE TOILET TEST - WHAT A LET DOWN!
Ok... I'm gonna get myself in big trouble. Having watched a ton of vids now on the S5-2, I saw a couple that tried that 'Sigma' - EF mount adapter. I was staggered at how good the auto-focus worked - It looked as good as a native lens... Be good to see you try that. Great fun review as always Kasey - Cam from NZ :)
Thank you Panasonic, for bringing us the Big Arm autofocus we have been demanding.
I can't believe you FINALLY got recognized by Panny! First review I watched b/c I knew you'd give it to us straight. Thanks again..
This is monumental. As a long time viewer I’m about to cry for you lol
You got a camera release thing... how exciting!
Dood you're freaking awesome. First video of yours I've seen. Killer work. New subscriber here and affiliate link user.
OMG they did it! I'm almost sad the pulsing era is over. 😅
Great video as always! I'm very happy with my current S5 but I'm devastated about 4k60 still going to an APS-C crop. Upgrading for better autofocus only, is a tough decision. Autofocus and full frame 4k60+, would've been an absolute no brainer for me. Cheers from Australia 🍻
I bet they'll release that in a firmware update. They'd never release a camera on time if they had to test every bit of performance stretching capability before launch
excellent review!! fun and informative.
Great video as always. Both new cameras are amazing value and quality.
The biggest flaw now is the hdmi lag compared to Sony. This makes manual focusing on external monitors with a follow focus way harder.
you are so intrateining that i loose focus on the cameras , i just love watching your video, if when im feel a bit depressed..? that work for me too... every vlogger shuld be ilarius, thankyou
I was already a fan but seeing you flash a persimmon put you in top 3. Deliciously underrated fruit.
Wow. The lens cap footage is like you have a dedicated focus puller. Well done Pannyboy.
I'm going miss "Pulsin' in the Background". I find myself humming that tune all the time.
Very happy I stumbled across your channel.
I watch these videos to de stress, be entertained and get a warm fuzzy feeling.
fun comparison😁 & lots of useful info, thank you
chiang mai is warm and lovely now! good to see you doing well in such a cold environment :)
That music around 11 minute mark. Superb
I really like your sense of humor. Keep it up.
If I didn't already have an A7S3, I would get this one. It's good enough, and a whole lot cheaper.
G’dam. That was such a funny intro. Is this a comedy show or camera review. Thank you for making photography fun and interesting.
Wow! This is your best video: Engaged, funny, informative, helpful - Thanks!
Dude, your reviews are hilarious ! - in a nice way!! I have just signed up. Its so obvious you know your shit. We learn about tech while being delightfully entertained, way to go!!
Enjoy watching your videos. I've had a production 5S II for testing for a few days now. The phase detect autofocus is a massive leap from the contrast detection on the S5. Felt I should trade in my S5 for the S5 II within a few minutes of using it. But will reserve my opinion for after the full test. Experienced a few of the same quirks you mentioned and some more..4k 60 and higher resolutions with Crop a bit of a letdown..but I guess they have to reserve the best for their flagship..
I can't wait for the S1H mkii...literally going to pre-order the first day I hear its available.
"Panasonic out of focus, pulsing in the back ground" is so good😍 ''missed the shot now I'm homeless''
It looks really good, Panasonic might have pulled something off here.
Yep , they accomplished getting me to completely disregard this camera until I see what the S5 IIx can do for real.
@@slashmatt Hell, I'm skipping this one altogether and waiting for this tech to make its way into the S1H replacement
As soon as the S5II was announced I ran to your channel to see your thoughts!
Sold all my equipment, all on board this S5 mark ii platform, planning on a second body and a few more lenses. I said the same thing, phase detect AF I am moving.
Congrats on the review! Thought it was great!
Your way of telling a story is the best!!!
Congrats on getting in the review queue! So many videos dropped today, and there was yours too! Well done.
Ther are very few UA-camrs that make me literally LOL...maybe a chuckle, but not a true LOL - you are in that select few group my man!
Sushi from Olympus. That did it for me 😂😂
👀 “You…you wanted that?” I was cracking up lol 😂😂😂
I can’t believe you got one. Nice man, you made it
Dude singing the end of your song was epic😆😆😆
Goddammit. Now I think I'm stoned but I haven't done anything. ... But now I'm back to my travelog. Thanks for the trip.
Kasey!...I credit YOU for shaming Panasonic constantly for YEARS...causing them to finally getting PDAF sensors! They did it and YOU were the fire under their butts! God bless you Kasey!!
Fire under their butts 😂 More like "Fire in the Hole"
After hundreds of times of watching this industry meetings, only today I've noticed he flips horizontally the image for one of the characters. He just changes the wig. Brilliant production and brilliant performance getting us close to the big camera companies kitchen. Priceless
Is there a wig?
He explains this in a video - catch up!
I thought he wears a wig all the time. I'm pretty sure he's completely bald from a colon cleanse accident.
@@ohshoot444 There are no bald Canadians, it's cold up there and mother nature knows best
@@anikonista Deep remark. Is there a Kasey?
Never in a million years did I expect Panny’s first attempt at PDAF to beat Canon’s AF. It’ll be good to see how it stacks up against the R6II. Wobbly stabe with wide-angle lenses is still an issue, but man it went toe to toe with A7SIII! Great video!
We'll need to see how it compares to the R5, R6, and R6 II.
@N578MD I didn’t know that the EOS R was released back in 2013…
I mean, that's Canon's oldest generation mirrorless. The R6, R5, and especially the R3 and R6 II blow the doors off not only the R, but even the Sony A7SIII.
I have the R6 II and it's night and day better than the R (and would easily beat the S5II, plus it has less IBIS wobble, and no cropped/crippled 4K 60).
@@77dris I thought it would too, but then I stumbled across this video from Richard Wong, and the results were similar to the EOS R.
Don’t take my word for it, here’s the video: ua-cam.com/video/3jWoirxDCCw/v-deo.html
TL;DW: The Sony A7IV edges out both Canon and Lumix, but Lumix still edges out Canon’s R6II.
Canon R DPAF is the same gen as the 5D4. similar sensor except for the processor...that's dated. Compare with R6/II,R5 which are using DPAF II.
Hahaha you’re sense of humor man is rare these days. I’m glad I bumped into your channel.
How you doing? Subscribing? Hell yes!!
I love Your wildlife shots. You're so talented :)
The great day we've been waiting has come my brothers! ✌️
Finally, I'm start watching reviews from the one that I could watch till the end. Gratz with being first.
congrats on being on the inner circle!!
TELL THEM TO DISCOUNT IT ASAP
Awesome they got you an early copy!! Great video
I was waiting on your video BRO!
Among all the usual camera gear reviewers, your videos are the one I most expect to see and this one doesn't disappoint.
Fantastic review 🤩!
I can’t drink coffee watching your channel, so funny. Brilliant,😅
I enjoyed this video. Seems like panasonic finally making a comeup.
Also, Happy New Year to you bro.
tower jazz ones made of cinnamon buns... the only review that matters
9:34 It even focus on a one-eyed squirrel (bad joke, sorry). I was about to switch systems after a zillion videos watched about Sony A7IV. Now I am back to this relentless state of "I´ll I want is a perfect camera". Thanks to your great reviews as always! 👏😅
The tears of happiness are flowing down my cheeks, oh Panny boy you did it!
The Toneh shirt arrived. Very nice T. Good fit, good color, comfy.
Thanks for the review and congrats on hitting the "Big Time". My finger is hovering over the L 24 F1.8 lens but I really want the Leica Summicron-SL 35mm f/2 ASPH. Too bad they do not offer a 24. The biggest issue Panasonic has is the L mount lens availability. It sucks to be a Pani Boy Me.
The price point only makes sense if you have 3 decent lens options but if you're starting from scratch saving 500 on the body doesnt cover that. Sure you can make a full switch but not sure that's warranted even with the improvements
lovely video, guess this might be my entry to FF for birds. the only thing is that i just bought the OM 1, well maybe next year or the year after it. i really love Pany boys colors.
Excellent comparison! Did you notice moire patterns on the s5ii due to the lack of AA filter to the sensor? And if so is it going to be a problem on professional work?
The Panasonic Autofocus jam is bad ass!! Hilarious! @13.48
This one was fun to watch!
I never seen Kasey this happy before, he is like a kid who just got his PlayStation 1 at Christmas in 1994
17:12 that was a good transition from you
You spoil us with your dual perspective road crossing. EIS generated some 3D pop!
O Panny boy you done well. This makes me excited for their future cameras.
that 1080p on panny boy is glorious
The board meetings are amazing! 🤣🤣🤣 You should take a look inside the cellphone company's rooms!
Great review! Sorry you didn't get to visit Japan for some sushi, but congratulations on staying free of the experimental bioweapon.
Congrats on getting invited to the in crowd!!! I'm going to have to watch one S5II video😉
Glad to see Panny finally getting in phase with everyone else👍👍
Love this channel!
for sure, d pdaf would still be tweaked and improved by Panasonic 👍 this is just the beginning of d best cameras from Panasonic guys 🥂 let's look forward to GH6S or the GH6 mark II with the much awaited and most likely improved PDAF 💯
Brother you got nothing but the biggest respect from me for sticking to your guns and not wanting to experiment settings that might get you out of focus in the future, if you know what I mean .... To be in focus is very important ;)
