He is actually in character…this song is about a friend of the band that only had artistic ability only when he is under the influence
That is a very interesting point of view for writing! Is there an interview or something where he is talking about this?
Glad you shared this
@@annavaskelainenHi, beautiful woman! Do you remember Diana Ankudinova? Amazing new music video BAIKAL. The part of OST of SPIRIT OF BAIKAL. PLEASE REACT!
WOW.....in never knew that. I had no idea. Thanks for sharing. Great BAND.....my favorite since High School
@@annavaskelainenI would also be interested to know that
This song is so powerful because it is so real. To many, this is a daily reality. You literally hate what you have become. Some find a way out, others don't. December 31. 2004, after 16 years, I was finally able to escape the grasp. May I never F'n go back there! Now let me turn this up!
So true dude! I felt exactly the same way until I got sober on May 11, 2001. 22 years and countng!
Well done to you both
The fact that you react in your language and English is everything. One of the best singers reacting to music videos. 💯
Thank you SO much for this comment! 🥰
Welcome to the beginning of the rabbit hole miss. They are a genre unto themselves. "Spiral out, keep going."
“Ok then.” Indeed. The emotion and strength of Maynard’s performance. Masterpiece.
During this performance, Maynard picked out one person in the crowd and focused on him/her. Ironically, he now owns and operates a vinyard and winery in Arizona. Cheers!
Woah i didn't know that.
That has got to be a somewhat terrifying experience.
To be the person in focus...
I could not help but feel adressed.
I read a comment from someone who said Maynard picked them out as his person to focus on during a song. That meant eleven solid minutes of being aggressively stared at by him. I don't know if I could handle that.
4:03 the moment Maynard has your attention and almost makes you cry. Awesome to catch that on a vid!!
for complexity I recommend "Lateralus" or "Parabol/Parabola", for vocal extremes I suggest "Bottom", "The Grudge" or "The Pot". If you desire to "get" the sense of Tool try "46 & 2" "Aenima" or "Schism", those were their other most popular radio hits back in the 1990's.
These are all great recommendations!!
The best thing about tool is that the more you listen to them the more you will love/appreciate them. It’s like a fine wine. Plus you do not get sick of hearing their songs. I’m currently on a four year bender, where tool is my dominant band. I saw them first live in 1994 I think in Orlando at a college gym. Took a break from them for a while and then re-discovered there later artistry. And I’m infatuated with everything they’ve ever put out.
I suggest looking into his band A Perfect Circle if you want to truly see his ability and range.
You NEVER get sick of hearing their songs, but at a certain point I realized just how much I miss their OLD SOUND. Maynard doesn't really sing like that anymore
He’s turning 60 so yeah small wonder he doesn’t sing like he is in his 20’s anymore :) he’s amazing, seeing him in a week! Can’t wait!
Schism and 46 & 2 got me into playing bass. Absolutely legendary band
I think, as a bass player myself, these are the two Tool riffs bass players always pick up.
46 & 2 and Stinkfist are so.deep.of lyrics they hit hard as well as sober
Tool is one of the greatest bands of all time, enjoy the journey
Finnish is such a beautiful language
I understand the song is about close friend of his and the band who felt he was creative only when under influence of substances, but the substances were destroying him. So either he was under influence and killing himself or sober and not making art he considered worthwhile.
I am not sure which path he ultimately chose, but it is clear the torment and misery affected those around him deeply.
I love the deep breath that people take after reacting to a Tool song for the first time. 😂❤
😅
It's your brain trying to choose where to start because EVERYTHING is good.
4:55. One of Maynard’s best attributes, is that he can put himself in anyone’s shoes! His empathy surrounds his intelligence. I’m quite sure he is speaking for another, here. Maynard does this quite a lot.
Yeah. His ability to convey emotion is uncanny
"His empathy surrounds his intelligence."
Great way of putting it!
Your perspective of the character portrayed by Maynard looking far into the distance is excellent, it's as if he doesn't want to be there so ignores the crowd and sings alone, not caring for the thousands in attendance.
I regard this song as a masterpiece of brooding and having torment; it can give me chills. It’s true that Maynard is quite in character, and I feel like he is almost an actor up on that stage. Not that he is creating a fictional character, but that he is so into his role that his performance reaches a higher, truer level of theatre.
Maynard is the only guy Ive ever seen that can scream at you with his eyes.
Wow…..your the 1st reactor to actually hear the line “Why can’t we (NOT) be sober” most reactors don’t hear the word (Not) 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great reaction ❤️
Why CAN'T we not be sober.
Its 100% character. Maynard never messed with drugs.. The song is about a friend..
One of best videos on UA-cam
Your native language is so beautiful. I want to learn it
His voice is incredibly strong and controlled for that intensity.
Easily one of the top ten live performances of the 90's. This is one of the most visceral performances of any era.
Tool was highly influential at this time and this song really hits home to many. You can feel the pain and loss he feels over the addiction his friend is fighting. This live performance has to rate as one of the best of this era. Great song to introduce you to TOOL!
Imagine listening this song as a 16 year old boy. And waiting for ever for the next album. I ve lost people waiting for fear inoculum , almost 13 years . Now at 46 they still smack my psyche
Art.
The words are tortured and he is portraying this as well with his posture
Tool is really incredible. Although this live performance quality is pretty low it is still great and you can see the story being told in the song. There are other songs with deeper meaning, but this one is definitely one to experience as a show!
Hello. More You and more Tool please !!!!!! ;-)
Noted!
Lateralus IS a masterpieces as Always with Tool you need keys to to catch It all. I forgot Schisme, Fear inoculum, and All the album Fear inoculum 🤘😎🤭😁 Have a nice day. See you ASAP 🙋♂️
Greetings! This was a wonderful reaction. If I'm correct, this song is about a friend of Maynard's who had to be on substances to be creative. As to your question about what should be next, Lateralus, The Grudge, Pushit, & The Pot would all be good. Pretty much everything they've done is outstanding. You really can't go wrong.
Was looking for this comment…
Pretty sure this is about Bill Manspeaker.
@@nucl3arboNgWho is that?
@@nucl3arboNg I've heard that as well.
@@brandonguindon7455 He was the lead singer for Green Jello/Green Jelly.
I used to play this song in college when I was so numb I couldn't feel anything. I could feel this song at least.
Welcome to the Tool experience. You are about to go down a rabbit hole with this band. Buckle up and enjoy the experience!
Welcome to the TOOL army, Anna!
Thank you! 🥰
Such a tease. Can't wait for this one!
Another incredible and equally gut-wrenching live performance is their live version of "Pushit" from Aenima, as performed on the live record Salival during the Aenima tour way back in 1997-1998. You can find it on youtube, and while there is no video of that particular performance, it is a transcendent performance, both musically and vocally. It is worth checking out both as a fan of music, and as a professional voice coach.
Maynards song/lyric writing ability is absolutely profoud and intelligent, 2cnd place isnt even close as far as my experience reveals.
Ohhhhhhh! This is going to be a good one! ❤ ANNA!!! ❤❤❤
Kkkodiaaaak!
I think he's physically adding pain to the lyrics through his contorted posture.
Stunning performance ........ It is definitely a heartfelt song for Maynard
This is ART! This is TOOL!
He's a wine maker now!
How can you not fall in love with tool? Only gets better in time.
yup
Love listening to Finnish
Tool is a top 3 band all time for me. Always excellent live. Such a vast catalog of excellent music. Schism, The Pot, Vicarious, Stinkfist, The Grudge, AEnema, and my all time favorite Lateralus are all excellent options
I really love your analysis of the performance. I think you saw something that we all know is there. Well done Anna. 9/10 reaction/review of the vocals here. Thank you.
Maynard is a genius
Hype!
Dreww!!
Yes…I’m excited to watch this! Anna, I’m a big fan of yours by the way.
Yay! Thank you for your support! xx
@@annavaskelainen There are many who do what you do, but you and the Charismatic Voice are the best hands down at it in my opinion. I believe the songs themselves blush when you give them your attention. 😃
I’m a big fan too.❤
"I will find a center in you, I will chew it up and leave. I will work to elevate you, just enough to bring you down". Addiction in a nut shell.
Thank you so much for your reaction!!!
Wow you’re very naturally insightful. That trait isn’t common. You will hear people say they are insightful (or smart) yet they lack basic logical perceptions lol. So for me it is refreshing to see someone who is not only insightful but also intuitive. Subbed and liked :)
He's amazing
tool! blessings!
Your observation of him looking through the audience. It's as if there is something behind the audience that he is battling with. Whether or not it was part of the performance or not, it's very effective.
When you attempt to sing this song you would be really suprised by how much the 'hunch' helps in been able to create the resonance and control needed. It goes against everything your taught, but try it. It is shocking how much it helps. I'd go for Pushit Salival, which is a live performance and really shows off many of MJKs' skills. I studied with many Finnish students and it's great to hear Finnish again. Really good reaction 💜
These days maynard sings in the background, switching from right and left of Danny carey's drums. Usually in the dark and he sounds better than ever. Went to 1/21/24 show and it was great.
Her sweater looks really comfortable.
It is!
next song suggestion: you would love The Pot, Stinkfist, Schism, The Grudge...
Can't go wrong with TOOL.
LATERALUS
One of the best reactions I've seen.
Thank you very much 🥰
❤❤Todella raskasta rockia, pidän tästä!❤❤
"Tool" is the best band I have ever come across!!
Wow you're interpretation of Maynard and his eyes and committal to his presentation was remarkable
As a Fin in Minnesota it makes me really happy that you have discovered this video and Tool! My grandma Kainu is 100 % Fin. Keep up the good work!
These guys are still rocking. Their last album was dope.
He's under possession.
Welcome to the Tool Family, Spiral Out. Keep, Going.
Thank you! 🥰
For the ultimate in emotion listen to "10,000 Days/Wings for Marie" written by Maynard about his mother. It shows sorrow, anger, and love.
Great analysis Anna. Love your reaction!
comment before watch:
this piece is everything
for so many ppl.
Maynard is a Legend.-
'm prety sure i will review your reaction
a couple hundrends times
as i do to some other pieces..
🙏
So Annatella, what are you waiting for!? Tool is still very worth of a reaction of that young finnish musician. So please react on some old well known bands like Tool, Deftones, System OAD, ...
I love that for every emotion, they have a song that fits that emotion.
Your reactions are wonderful, thank you!
Im now 54, i heard the very beginnings of rock n roll, r&b.. the very beginning of rap... ect ect n lm a musician of over 40 years as well n this man is the greatest writer, musicain n sings/delivers his lyrics better tahn any other artist ive ever encountered. His 3 nads are just mind boggling n i love them all so much.... he is everything id love to be musically. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍
The funny thing too is that Maynard is a shrewd business man who is a very successful winemaker who owns vineyards in Arizona USA and sometimes wears a business suit and black framed glasses.
Finnish sounds so beautiful. Im kind of Biased. I remember my grandfather and relatives speaking it at such a young age. Astoria Oregon where i was born. Yes the film of the Goonies. Has a huge Finnish population and history of immigrants there.
I don't know what part of the planet you from but beautiful speech and God bless welcome to tool your part of the family now .....tool under tow album was genius
Он выглядит очень по настоящему👍👍👍👍👍
Love this song! Love the insights.... Thank you, Anna! Great way to start my morning... 😊
Happy to serve!
Awesome reaction as always! Tool's music is very captivating, would love to see more reactions to it from you. Some songs that would be great to dig deeper into would be "The Pot", "Lateralus" or perhaps even "Rosetta Stoned".
Your observations are so accurate and articulate. Nice work
I could listen to her discuss music for eternity.... Its intoxicating
Once again, a trip into unchartered territory for me. Well, with such good guide as you no need to hesitate but dive into the piece and discover the band/singer !👍
On another note, Finnish is the most beautiful language on earth.
Una preciosura, como la canción ❤️
It has begun.
Tool is my favorite Rock band of all time. I have others that I just adore but this band transcends them all.
First time seeing one of your videos and I enjoyed it! Maynard is absolutely a great vocalist and the band is quite accomplished musically. I look forward to seeing more of your work.
🥰
My favorite song from Tool is probably Right in Two. I don't think it's super complex, but it's such a great song. If you're going for complex, probably Lateralus, possibly the Grudge. But Right in Two and The Patient are my favorites of theirs.
Those moments you weren't analysing and connecting. Take that feeling and listen to more Tool, Then listen to more Tool.
Great review
This concert was amazing! Ive seen Tool 4 times...it is an exceptional experience. I dont trust anyone that doesn't understand Tool.
Keep listening to more!
You want to “get” Tool? Aenema!!
I would suggest The Pot. Absolutely mesmerizing, it has the complexity that you asked for, and lyrically it is brilliant. All about the hypocrisy of those in power.
One of America's greatest things lol tool.
And just like that Maynard pulls in another 🖤
Love the reaction, don't know Finnish language at all but love to hear the language. Thank you!
Thank you! Did you have the CC on? :)
I don't know what she's saying but i love every word she says
hahah well I hope you had the subtitle turned on at least!
More Tool please! ❤
If you enjoyed this, you really need to watch "Tool Live 1992 Philadelphia (JC Dobbs)". I'm probably slightly off with the wording of the video title, but it's easy to find. Great footage of a really early show, in a small bar with only like 15 people there. 🤘
