  • How I SUCCESSFULLY Transitioned from Relaxed to Natural Hair. Since I transitioned for two years i feel like its my duty to not forget about the transitioners out there this is EXACTLY what I did to successfully transition. I explain what my weekly wash routine was like, how i deep conditioned, what products i used, the hair styles i did. Literally everything you need to know about how i made it to the end. Hopefully this is able to make your natural hair journey of going natural easier.

    I'm transitioning now and I have 3 inches of new growth. I'm having difficulty with this process because I'm used to straight hair. You give me hope. Tnanks😁

    "The hardest part is the mindset", That's so true. People will always try to talk you down with a lot of bullsh*t (even without knowing a thing) and tell you that it would not look good on you, that relaxed hair is easier to manage, that you should settle and not do it for the trend (as if the way my hair grows out of my head it's a trend), but as you said I'm doing this for me, it's MY hair; whoever dislikes it then turn around and mind your business. What's funnier is that when you go completely natural and it turns out it looks good on you, they're the first ones to compliment it

    • @KaylynIvy
      @KaylynIvy  5 років тому +8

      That’s literally exactly what happened too. Now that I’m natural everyone loves it and wants to go natural now but I was torn down my entire transition and some months after my big chop. Now they see its flourishing and people hate when I say “yea if it were up to you I never would have been here” lol I ain’t forgettin

      Yes we have beauticians. My 1st regular beautician did my hair for a little over 20 years (I was a kid when I started going to her). I finally ended up switching to someone else & it's been almost 10 years with her. But since I'm transitioning now, I found a natural hair stylist. I've only been to her once so far.

    It's funny how haters told you not to go natural but for me it was the haters jealous of my hair length that made me want to cut off my heat damage. But my hair is still a nice length and is growing back really fast!!!

    Great video. Now 6 months into my transition and decided to changed all my relaxed hair products as my hair wasn't moisturised enough. Deep conditioning on a weekly basis is a must. I'm using the Mane Choice to transition. Their pre poo is a lifesaver. The LOC method really helps soften new growth.

    I legit only do buns every single day. My hair is too short and the relaxed ends are so stringy so I can’t wear my hair out. I do box braids sometimes as well when I wanna give my hair a break or when I’m bored.

    • @KaylynIvy
      @KaylynIvy  6 років тому +20

      I forgot you were even transitioning Brit ! I’m over here thinkin you’re fully natural lol but I never realized how ugly my relaxed hair was til I saw that stringy junk attached to my natural hair . Buns were life ! And still are lol

      KAYLYN IVY it’s the worst girl! Have any tips to make my bun last longer? I use eco and I can get like 2 days before I have to reapply more gel. Any tips would be amazing! :)

    • @KaylynIvy
      @KaylynIvy  6 років тому +13

      Unfortunately no :/ I just took it down , sprayed it with water, applied oil and a little gel and brushed it back up into another bun . And if my bun looked raggedy I didnt even care cause I was NOT about to put forth the effort washing it again before my week was up lol

    Nice information. Thank you for sharing. It s good that you stopped listening to people. They certainly discourage people. I transitioned years ago but kept braiding cos I felt I couldn't leave my hair out like that. Now I dont braid anymore as I almost became bald. I did a video showing this :)

    I've been transitioning for 6 months so far. I have about 3 inches of new growth and this will be my second time going natural. As I'm transitioning, I'm trying to figure out my hair and learn new methods of retaining moisture. The last time I was natural was my first time going natural, and that didn't go well for me. This time I will succeed!

    This is my 2nd time with going natural. The 1st time, I did the same as you, kept my hair straightened not realizing that was bad to do. I knew NOTHING about transitioning (this was 4 or 5 years ago). Fastfoward to today, I did tons of research this time when I decided to try again. I just completed my 4th month & am now in my 5th month of transitioning.

    Kaylyn your hair looks great. I only relaxed after 18 yrs old. I transitioned before and went back to relaxed. I like both to be honest. I see benefits on both sides. I have to do deep conditioning no matter the state of my hair. I like Camille Rose products and Garnier Fructis and Rose water/glycerin.

      KAYLYN IVY Thank you!! I was thinking maybe I chop it off when I hit the one year mark because my bday is 3 days after. But I looked at my new growth on wash day and I was like ummmm yea I need some more length 😂 because I never had short hair before always long relaxed hair. But dealing with these two textures ain’t no joke 😭 and u know what’s annoying the natural hair gang lol no offense but I have them at work and they always saying just cut it off. Yea it don’t work that way I cut my own hair on my own head when I am good and ready lol but I was thinking maybe end of the this year I be 16 months post and I can bring in the New Year with natural hair. But I will definitely keep u posted and my bad I wrote a lot 🤣 😊

    • @m3laaa

      you could cut off the straight ends right off the bat or let your hair grow out a bit and then cut off the ends

    • @rachellep2581
      @rachellep2581 4 роки тому

      Bantu knots will give you a more even curl pattern, until you are ready to part with the straight bits. Also on wash day try flexi rods or even use perm rods on just the straight ends of your hair. Let your hair dry like a set then remove only when completely dry. I hope this helps.

    Do you still use products that contain silicones?

    • @KaylynIvy
      @KaylynIvy  6 років тому +11

      Yea to be honest I don’t even check the ingredients to even see. If it has silicones I wouldn’t even know unless someone commented that it did. They work for me though 🤷🏽‍♀️

    Do you ever have to moisturize your wash and gos at any point of time during the week? How do you do it? My hair start to get a little dry like on the 5th day

    How do you deal with morning shrinkage? I've been natural for almost a year and this shrinkage is killing me 😱. I keep it moisturized and my roots and scalp oiled, but every morning my hair shrinks and takes shape of the bonnet. My hair type is 4a/b.

      Adriannn Adriann It sounds like you leave your hair out underneath your bonnet. I would recommend you braid you hair in four different sections to keep your hair in a stretched State overnight

      Adriannn Adriann Kaylyn has a couple of videos on stretching. Click on her photo and you’ll get a list of all of her previous videos. She did an updated one just recently😀 Hope this helps Sis😊🌹

      Thanks Karen for letting her know ! But yes I normally stretch my hair and my stretch routine it literally only takes 5 mins to do and after taking it down in like 30 mins it’ll be completely stretched. Sometimes I wear my hair like that in the car on the way to work or when I’m getting dressed and by the time I’m done doing whatever it’s stretched .

    I wish I was watching transitioning videos back when I was transitioning. All I was doing was watching videos of people with like 3C hair when I have mostly 4a hair. I also had braids all throughout transitioning, so I never knew how to take care of my hair. I didn't even know what it looked like. If I'd just transitioned without the braids I'd probably get to know my hair more than I did then. I was using products I used on my permed hair and I was just washing it and putting the hair lotion on it and going.
