    I transitioned about six years ago and I didn’t know any of these tips. I was listening to girlfriends and relying on YT videos from regular folks. I was clueless 😅 I didn’t understand why my hairstyles didn’t look like theirs. Once I realized my hair had a natural curly texture with definition, I located a natural hairstylist, and things got better.
    Listening to professionals such as yourself has made my journey less frustrating.

      Hey Denise! Awesome!! I can totally relate -- well somewhat! I tried 'transitioning' and couldn't take it...I lasting about 2 week and just cut it off! I didn't have these tips either! LOL! So glad you can you on the right path!

    I’m transitioning from relaxed to natural, 11 months in😅, your advice has been extremely helpful…I’ve watched some of your other videos too and will start pre-pooing and using jojoba oil as yes I’ve discovered how dry natural hair is. I haven’t seen my natural hair since the 1980s so it’s been decades but oh well, never too late to start fresh

      No It's never too late! I know its so excited when you actually get to see or see again -- you're natural hair! Have fun! Experiment! This is the fun part! And got this! 💪🏾. I am your biggest cheerleader!

    After high school, I wanted to get a relaxer to prepare for college. My friends had convinced me it would be easier to take care of. My mom told me it wouldn't because I already knew how to care for my natural hair, but she said she wouldn't stop me. So of course, I got the relaxer. I hated it from day one but I thought I would get used to it, I didn't. Just before college started I got a touch-up, and that was the last of my relaxer days. Six months later I cut all the relaxed hair off. I was so happy because my hair was back to what I was used to even though it was way shorter. Needless to say, my friends thought I was crazy but I was very content with my decision.

      Now this is a story I don't hear often. You were natural most of your life and didn't get a relaxer as a child. That's awesome! I do think many women are 'curious' about relaxed hair though. LOL! I guess mom's knows best!!! Good thing you didn't keep it for long! So many people thought I was crazy for cutting off my long straight hair too -- now those same women are all natural now! LOL!

      @@KarenofCurlHouse Yes, she knew best that time.🤣🤣I grew up in a family of ladies with natural hair. I didn't really appreciate that until college when so many of the girls didn't know anything about natural hair.

    Love this… I’m struggling with transitioning to my natural hair…Only because my gray patch is right in front and isn’t so attractive. So I’m working on embracing both my natural and gray hair. I’m three months new growth part relaxer. I’m currently wearing braids in between twist outs. I need to research moisturizing hair products. Thank you for this video beautiful lady❤

    Thank you, thank you, thank you! I loved these tips! I've been doing some of them but not all. I especially liked the changing your mind set part. My grandmother had naturally straight hair and taught me that my natural hair was so ugly until it needed to be "fixed" with relaxers. So as my new hair is growing in more, a part of me thinks it's ugly, and other days I think it looks pretty. From now on, I'm going to keep telling it how pretty it is 😊😊😊❤️❤️❤️

      Yes! My mom felt the same way when I first went natural...she's natural now! LOL! I remember teaching a natural hair class in Texas about ten years ago and decided to do an impromptu big chop on the stage and asked for volunteers. A young girl volunteer and as I cut off all of her relaxed hair, I watched as her mom sobbed because she didn't like natural hair. I will never forget that experience. But continue to encourage yourself and speak positivity over yourself. If you send me your shipping address -- I'd love to gift you with on of my books. I think it will help you in your journey, and I have an entire section in the back dedicated to changing your mindset. Send me your shipping address to info@curlhouse.com

      Hi Kandyce! This is a sew-in. Actually the first one I've ever had. Lasted less than two weeks! I couldn't take it - had to wash my hair. But it's a middle part sew in (my hair out in the top), with kinky curly hair, and I flat twisted the weave to get this look. I am going to flat blow out and flat twist my natural hair for a comparable look and will make sure I capture it on video.

    Also, my hairdresser keeps wanting to use heat on my hair during my transitioning to make it easy for her, and I keep telling her no. I want to keep the new curls and waves as healthy as possible. I think she's more used to doing relaxed hair! Lol

      I'm sure your natural hair is beautiful. It might be time to think about switching to a stylist who mostly does natural hair.

    • @KarenofCurlHouse
      @KarenofCurlHouse  Рік тому +2

      Yes. Sometimes if a stylist doesn't specialize in natural hair, natural hair can be difficult or time consuming. I was able to build my entire clientele on women who's stylists didn't know how to help them transition properly without excessive heat. But you keep on educating yourself and asking for what you want...and doing what's best for your hair. BTW -- I did this video for you 😜
