Shields might be one of the best/most underrated home defense tools on the market.
Yeah shield are so underrated that Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, Predator and Boba Fett never used one to protect their faces and chest from blasters, lightsabers and bullets from their opponents and also Vader and Predator can used metals that are to heavy for humans to use because of their super strength.

You can use the shield to put in your car on the driver's side door for protection too. I think the shield does have some cases where its better protection than a bulletproof vest. Another good thing about the shield is it will probably last you forever, unlike a bulletproof vest.

If you equip that plus a kevlar vest you are basically immune to bullet impacts. Even calibers that will manage to pierce through it will be stopped by the kevlar

That shield is built incredibly well, I really appreciate the maliability of ar500 and increased hardness, it really showed how good those shields are considering it was stopping high caliber rifle rounds. The holder would get knocked on his behind but still

In a home defense situation? Got to give it to the shield. You aren't going to be sleeping in that body armor, and that shield is easily picked up from it's perching place next to your sidearm of choice.
What I would have loved seeing is a one and a million shot on the outward facing bolts with a .45. I really wonder what would happen to that mounting point in case of a direct hit.
The Dutch Texan yeah, the shield will also cover nearly your entire body when walking inside of a house. And as a bonus, you could use the shield to protect yourself from an intruder with a knife or somebody trying to grab your gun.
The Dutch Texan i couldnt agree more those mounting bolts look rather skimpy, although i will say i can see them improving this design with additions like flashlights/cameras etc

The advantage of the shield over body armor is that presenting it at an angle helps to ricochet and increase the effective thickness
I was wondering if the rating was for dead on shots or at an angle. Kind of like how the FBI tests ammo against a windshield at a 45 degree angle.
That's probably why they didn't penetrate, he had the shield at an angle.
Rating is "This item is guaranteed to resist X", which means that there are margins in order to allow for production flaws.
Also, while the step between a II and IIIa rating is pretty small, the step between IIIa and III is huge.
While II->IIIa is basicly a 50% increase in force the IIIa->III is 500% more force.

The 5.7mm blue tip is hollow, which doesn't penetrate (though it has some stopping power nonetheless). The superior penetrating power comes from the VERY limited ball ammunition, which they only distribute to law enforcement and military.
You might get a few rounds from someone inside the army, but it cannot be bought.

Dear Matt, I've been watching you for a very long time. I was an avid watcher of FPSRussia in the pre-Demoranch days and after his camera man was killed and he quit UA-cam, I found your channel and have been following since. (Your videos are better than FPSRussia, fyi) My only request as a loyal, supportive subscriber is that you hold off buying new guns for a bit and save up and buy a good slo-mo cam and integrate it into your videos. I think it would give you the ability to try past things but with a much cooler, closer perspective. Such as the muzzle blast videos and whatnot. Seeing a bullet explode with force against a plate of steel would be dope! I hope you take this into consideration and I look forward to whatever you decide to show us on the channel nevertheless. Luis Lopez I read multiple credible sources. He had a lot of butane honey oil mailed to his house and the THC concentrate is very illegal and more serious of a charge than simple weed. He wasn't caught selling it but was charged with intent to sell and distribute based on the quanity in the mail and found at his house when it was searched (a warrant was issued for a property search). He did originally quit UA-cam though after his partner died of a gunshot. I believe it made a couple, like 2 or 3, videos afterwards but then I believe he was arrested on those charges and been off since.

It is always better to under promise and over perform especially for businesses dealing with armour.
Gun Nut So that they’re not liable when one of the riskier rounds happens to go through?
Nut you are being to cynical, we are talking about being better than the rating it gets assuming the test conditions,
And it is natural, common calibers are tested, and they do not test in between as much, so guns that fall in between test weapons would be between saved and not saved. Thus, if you have an extensive gun collection like DR, you can show EXACTLY what calibres it starts to fail.
And there is no chance of being sued if it lands outside test conditions, as these are external bodies making these assessments. And they will undoubtedly have heavily protected themselves legally when defining the ratings in the fine print.
Essentially "capable of stopping an (X) round" if it can with average expectations of gun specs and so forth, it would not be possible to sue if they tested and showed it COULD stop that round, as that statement would not say it ALWAYS stops, or is X proof.
But yeah, they usually just use the universal ratings anyway. But yeah, you COULD make all sorts of claims, if you have evidence.
Real question is “does Matt hate the 500 magnum more than the hi-point”? Hmm

A shield makes the most sense. With much less cost or difficulty in manufacture you have more robust protection which can be used or shed in seconds rather than minutes. You could have a heavier second layer of plates which drop underneath and to the sides giving enough height and width to make a static wall for 2 as well.

I would recommend both body armor & a shield as well as a backup melee weapon. That's the load out I have anyway. Preferably a shield that you can strap to your arm, taht way you still have use of your left hand. People may think its silly but ive been in situations in combat where I wish i had one.

By the time the United States suffers from a land invasion of another country, we're so fucked you might as well give up. This is true to the point where we might as well ditch the Army and just use the Navy and Airforce for everything because we're basically an island.
yaksher considering there are more guns in america then most army's around the world or army's put together I'm sure you will be fine, you have a awesome air force as well as navy, and let's not talk about the allies. America is a tough cookie but America gets targeted for things it didn't even do also, not saying its perfect but they obviously pick on america, like the time america accidentally shot a Russian in cease fire, they talked about it for MONTHS, yet all those times Russia flu past a american jet and then turned on his burners on making the jet almost crash, no one talks about that.
Rights And Liberty that's why they mentioned that if someone had successfully launched a ground invasion, then having guerrilla tactic militia formed of former citizens is probably not going to put a dent in the invading force. If the invading force had somehow managed to actually land and take footing on American soil they've probably already managed to deal with the American navy/airforce to achieve said foothold so you could argue that they're probably more than a match for the army and what ever civilians could throw at them. That being said, the actual chances of something like that happening is pretty slim so it's all a rather moot point until something proves otherwise.
But... America HAS received land invasions in history... And the population did in fact rise up and repel it... Sometimes, our navy was completely incapacitated... Modern philosophy of war is little different.
