In this video, we’re going to talk about lactose intolerance. Many have this problem and don’t even know they have it. So, what is lactose intolerance, and what should you do?
Lactose intolerance is a situation where you can’t break down lactose. Lactose is a form of sugar in many dairy products.
Some dairy products contain no lactose-always check to see if there’s a label that says “lactose-free” if you think you might be lactose intolerant.
The symptoms of lactose intolerance include:
• Gas
• Bloating
• Inflammation
• Pain
• Rumbling
These symptoms can happen right after you consume dairy, or they can happen several minutes to an hour later.
Some people with an allergy to milk or dairy can experience similar symptoms to lactose intolerance. However, these are two different things. A milk allergy is an immune reaction to the protein in dairy called casein.
Those with a dairy allergy may experience:
• Vomiting
• Hives
• Serious inflammation
• Wheezing
If you consume lactose-free products but still have a reaction to dairy, you may have an allergy instead of an intolerance to lactose. Talk to your doctor about testing for both of these situations.
What causes someone to become lactose intolerant? Lactose intolerance can be caused by:
1. Damage to your intestinal lining
2. Loss of enzymes to break down lactose
3. Loss of immune system
4. Quality of dairy products
The best remedies for lactose intolerance are:
• Probiotics (Bifidobacterium longum)
• Consume aged cheese, like cheddar and swiss
• Avoid processed cheese, milk, yogurt, and cottage cheese (all high in lactose)

My parents were forcing me to drink milk every morning for years before going to school forcefully thinking it was good for me despite me telling them that I get so much pain from it but they wouldn't listen. When I grew older, I stopped drinking milk completely. Absolutely hate it.
I was lactose intolerant but when I did the kito diet cut out wheat completely and two weeks later I started trying lactose and had no symptoms at all it's is incredible but true.
This is such a great channel. I've learned so much.
You have such great informative and easy to understand videos! This one was great thank you.
Thank you for all of your helpful videos!!!
So simple and easy to understand. I love drinking milk but I’m always in so much pain when bloated. Thank you for the education, now I know what to look out for.
Thank you so much for teaching us this clarification on lactose intolerance, and an allery to the protein. Also for - what to do about it.
For me lactose intolerance was simply an allergic reaction to pasteurized milk. I can drink all the raw milk I want with no reaction at all. However when I drink pasteurized milk - even as little as a half cup, I get the gas, bloating & rumbling.
Doing keto has helped me identify this, finally. Because my stomach is empty more often, I made a cup of cocoa with milk and cream on an empty stomach and had a bad reaction (at least it didn't take me out of ketosis, as I couldn't digest the sugars!). Today I have bought a good probiotic and some lactase (I don't want to waste all that cheese and cream I have stocked up on!). After I have used up my stores, I will go completely dairy free for at least a month. Then I will test things a bit. I'm looking forward to being symptom free, although I suspect it is not the only thing going on with my digestive system.
THE REAL MYSTERY FOR ME IS WHY CAN I CONSUME RAW MILK AND BUTTER AND NOT HAVE THE SAME SYMPTOMS THAT I HAVE WITH PROCESSED DAIRY PRODUCTS?
WHY IS LACTOSE FREE MILK SO SWEET?
Grandma Liz's Kisses raw milk still has nutrition and enzyme in it to help you breaking down enough lactose so you don't necessarily experience the symptoms. Pasteurized milk lost those key things.
Lactose free milk is not really lactose free. Lactoses are not remove from the milk. They are broken down into sugars you can absorb.
@@Litzbitz Like James said, in raw milk the enzyme lactase is still in there
Before I discovered keto I went gluten free for a month and I happened to go to cold stone and got a milkshake and no issues with lactose. Before I would have milk and almost right away I needed to be quarantined in a bathroom lol. .my conclusion ....gluten caused my lactose intolerance
The snap just eliminated the whole medical profession and big pharma and also the diet industry
Hi Dr. Berg, I hope you also do a video about appendicitis.
Thank you so much for your educational videos.
What is your opinion on the lactose free milk ?!
I've just figured out I was lactose intolerant and never knew at all until now. I ate ice cream and experienced bloating, gas, pain, and rumbling. I asked my doctor what it was and she said it's most likely lactose intolerance. So I came here, and that's what it is!
Dr Berg you are brilliant!
Thank you for such wonderful information. I finally did the quiz. I stalled for a few weeks but finally down 30lbs. I can't thank you enough. Love the adrenal support formula.
Hi what test? Have you put the weight back on

Thanks for the info Doc! I have the symptoms of lactose intolerance but still I think it’s best to get a hydrogen breathe test, for their could be other conditions with similar symptoms.
As always fantastic 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
That pain and runbling is what I have. I was diagnosed with irritable bowel many years ago but it's been suppressed with Endep but now I think I might try some lactose free milk. After all, maybe the doctor made a mistake. Thanks for your videos, they are very informative. :)
Have you done a video of a before and after of a keto diet without intermittent fasting or vice versa?
Excellent video.
Is Greek yogurt ok.
What about Milk Cream .
Hi Dr. Berg. You have talked about Fructose and Sucrose and their ill effects. Should I also worry about the lactose sugar in milk if I'm trying to avoid a fatty liver and other ill effects of sugar?
I'm not saying this is going to work for anyone else, but when my daughter-in-law started taking B1, D3, and K2, her lactose intolerance completely disappeared. I have no explanation for this, but now she eats cheese like it's going out of style, and she's completely fine.
thank you have been scanning the internet for this info i love milk eggs and cheese but it forms mucus in my throat. but i did not see the type of antibiotic you said you would link below.

My daughter has this but she doesn't get symptoms until HOURS after consuming dairy. And it always happens in the lower abdomen.

Hello doctor, I recently received my food allergy and intolerance test results from YorkTest here in the UK, and I have an egg, cows milk, peanut and yeast intolerance. 1:36, you need to mention more bout PPI's and how they could factor into damaging your intestinal lining, no acid means that food is going to absolutely destroy you intestines, i also think it throws your enzymes out of wack too. Im really adamant about PPI's because i took them when i didnt need them and exacerbated my stomach issues, now iv been on a 6 year road of trying to get my digestion right.
What you do
I have same thing

Anyone else experience symptoms even after you’ve taken lactase? I took 2 lactaid pills, maybe it’s not enough or something. I doubt the body gets resistant to it.
I have been lactose intolerant since my mid 20's I'm 48 now. Last year I started the low carb diet. After 6 months I was able to consume dairy. I went off the diet fall 2018. The lactose intolerance came back. I'm back on low carb now and consuming all the dairy I want. I found an article online many years ago linking gluten to lactose intolerance. When on low carb your avoiding gluten anyway this is what I has worked for me. I hope this helps anyone suffering.
Hi Dr. Berg, I am wondering how butter can be more easily digested with lactose intolerance? Can the lactose be cooked out of milk/cream/butter to the point of changing the glucose and galactose molecules? I apologize for such a specific question, but I feel that lactose intolerance is just a math problem that CAN be solved, and I would like to find the formula. Thank you!
Ghee.

I have suffered with lactose intolerance for many years. It's horrible! I do use lactaid tablets 9000 units per tab when I eat but have found out that to get the benefit I have to take 6-8 tablets per meal with high cheese content. Is this safe to take this many? Ranch dressing is the worse thing I can eat! Just curious if this dose is ok??? Thank you dr Berg
