As a Mexican, I had never noticed that we pronounce consonants very strongly. In Mexico all letters must be pronounced, we don't say "ehtamoh bien" we say "eStamoS bien".

That’s true. It depends on what part of Mexico a person is from. My grandfather was from Veracruz. When he would pronounce some words, he would omit certain consonants like S,Z,D, etc. Instead of Cansado, he would say Cansao, Vercru instead of Veracruz, or Mihmo instead or Mismo.

English is just the odd language out here. Obviously Spanish and Portuguese are more closely related Romance languages, while English is a West Germanic language that has been extensively influenced by Old Norse and Medieval French. Historically, vowels in English words, particularly long vowels, underwent a systematic pronunciation changes (the Great Vowel Shift) in which vowels that used to sound like "ee" and "oo" (long i and long u) became pronounced as "eye" (as in "high") and "ow" (as in "how"). Meanwhile, vowels that sounded somewhat like "ay", "eh", and "owe" (long e, long ea, and long o) became pronounced more like "ee" (as in "bee", "beat") and "oo" (as in "too"). Finally, the vowels "ah" and "awe" (long a and long oa) became more like "ay" (as in "bay") and "owe" (as in "boat"). So the vowel pronunciations shifted while English word spellings remained relatively constant. This explains why in modern English, the name "Diane/Diana" is pronounced "die-ANN-uh", with the written "i" pronounced as a centralized diphthong "eye", and the name "Gabriel" is pronounced "GAY-bree-ul", with the written "a" pronounced as a long e (̈"ay") vowel. None of the Romance languages underwent these vowel shifts, and so written "i" remained as a pure high vowel (as in Spanish "día"/Portuguese "dia"), and written "a" remained a pure low vowel "ah" (as in Spanish/Portuguese "casa").
I think for most words with an S in it, the Cuban girl got closer to the Chilean pronunciation than the Chilean. Our "proper" Chilean way to say things is how the Chilean girl pronounced them, however, we usually remove the "S" in words in informal talk, so "Sebastian" -> "Sebahtian", "Jesús" -> "Jesuh", and so on
I would say Chilean pronunciation of missed letters is a little more subtle that how the Cuban girl did, depending on the person. The people who speak better "eat" those s, d or other letters because we speak very fast making the sounds really fast and soft. The stronger Chilean accents would be more like the Cuban girl but even so I think she cuts the letters clearly, from a Chilean you would listen the s as a soft blow like a fast sh, because of air scaping between the teeth. Anyway I could be totally wrong! ^^' People say I speak weird, too well and with a different accent when I first meet them, maybe I'm just too tense (but I'm like 100% Chilean, I did born here, my family are Chilean too and from the countryside).

I'm an English speaker, but I work in an area that gets a LOT of Spanish speaking tourists. It's funny because they will often change their names to their English versions to make it "easier," "Alberto" becomes "Albert" for example, but I've gotten so used to pronouncing names with a Spanish inflection that I default to that pronunciation, so even the white English speakers tend to get their names pronounced the Spanish way (if they're spelled the same). I also used to work with a Jamaican lady who would spell names phonetically, so if someone with a non-rhotic accent came in she would spell the name without an "r." So a British guy named "Mark" would get his name spelled "Mak." There are also some Spanish speakers who don't pronounce "r"s very strongly in certain cases so "Carlos" would become "Calos."
We say Juan mostly like copying the Spanish way, prounouncing the J as an "R", so it sounds like Ruan. There's even a version of this name with R instead of J.

In European Portuguese we actually pronounce the L in words like Daniel or Gabriel, just as like in spanish. That I know, the only variant of Portuguese that uses the U instead of the L is Brazilian Portuguese, and you might even get a bit of both in some parts of Brazil, but yeah, here in Portugal we definitely pronounce our L's🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹😅

Very entertaining video. The names Sebastian and Nicolas are well known all over the Spanish speaking countries including Cuba. The Cuban representative here didn’t know those names probably because of been to young, but they are common names as well.

We Chileans drop the s when it’s at the end of a syllable. Instead we do a very subtle aspire sound that is often repeated with an H. So Sebastian would be pronounced Sebahtián. That dropped sound is one of the most defining things in Chilean pronunciation and the girl there didn’t do a good job in conveying it

There is nobody called Alejandro, Sebastian, Juan, Ronald, or NichoLAS in Brazil. We have our version for Spanish names with our own pronuncation: Alexandre, Sebastião, João, Ronaldo e NIcolas. That girl was trying to pronounce them literally with Portuguese accent, but we don't have exactly the same names.

Ela fala "João", está bem nítido. É a legenda que está errada, talvez pq João tem acento no nome e nos outros idiomas não tem. No espanhol o til só é usado em "ñ". Mas eles não têm o som "ão".
I can tell the Cuban girl is really young since she only got to know the Y Generation Names. Names like Sebastián and Nicolás are less common but they were more common before the 90's and they are pronounced like the other Spanish speaking girls. The only thing that she got right is the western Cuban accent that we can't pronounce r properly within a word.

In America, we have the feminine Daniel (Dan-yell), and the masculine Daniel (Dan-yul) or (Dan-yool) with the yool pronounced similar to the o's in book. This is the case for Michigan anyway, not sure about the other states. We also emphasize different parts of the name for each gender too. For feminine, we emphasize the latter part of the name, and masculine, we emphasize the D, with the latter part of the name being a little harsher I suppose.

Mas vale lembrar que a maior parte dessas regiões que eram do México não eram muito povoadas. Inclusive a maioria da população nesses locais não é latina. As a Mexican, I had never noticed that we pronounce consonants very strongly. In Mexico all letters must be pronounced, we don't say "ehtamoh bien" we say "eStamoS bien".

That’s true. It depends on what part of Mexico a person is from. My grandfather was from Veracruz. When he would pronounce some words, he would omit certain consonants like S,Z,D, etc. Instead of Cansado, he would say Cansao, Vercru instead of Veracruz, or Mihmo instead or Mismo.

I think for most words with an S in it, the Cuban girl got closer to the Chilean pronunciation than the Chilean. Our "proper" Chilean way to say things is how the Chilean girl pronounced them, however, we usually remove the "S" in words in informal talk, so "Sebastian" -> "Sebahtian", "Jesús" -> "Jesuh", and so on
True, it felt like a very forced pronunciation instead of the more natural Cuban pronunciation which is how we in Chile would normally say it
I would say Chilean pronunciation of missed letters is a little more subtle that how the Cuban girl did, depending on the person. The people who speak better "eat" those s, d or other letters because we speak very fast making the sounds really fast and soft. The stronger Chilean accents would be more like the Cuban girl but even so I think she cuts the letters clearly, from a Chilean you would listen the s as a soft blow like a fast sh, because of air scaping between the teeth. Anyway I could be totally wrong! ^^' People say I speak weird, too well and with a different accent when I first meet them, maybe I'm just too tense (but I'm like 100% Chilean, I did born here, my family are Chilean too and from the countryside).

I'm an English speaker, but I work in an area that gets a LOT of Spanish speaking tourists. It's funny because they will often change their names to their English versions to make it "easier," "Alberto" becomes "Albert" for example, but I've gotten so used to pronouncing names with a Spanish inflection that I default to that pronunciation, so even the white English speakers tend to get their names pronounced the Spanish way (if they're spelled the same).
I also used to work with a Jamaican lady who would spell names phonetically, so if someone with a non-rhotic accent came in she would spell the name without an "r." So a British guy named "Mark" would get his name spelled "Mak." There are also some Spanish speakers who don't pronounce "r"s very strongly in certain cases so "Carlos" would become "Calos."
I'd love to see a similar video to this going over different nicknames that are common for each name.

In European Portuguese we actually pronounce the L in words like Daniel or Gabriel, just as like in spanish. That I know, the only variant of Portuguese that uses the U instead of the L is Brazilian Portuguese, and you might even get a bit of both in some parts of Brazil, but yeah, here in Portugal we definitely pronounce our L's🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹😅

We Chileans drop the s when it’s at the end of a syllable. Instead we do a very subtle aspire sound that is often repeated with an H. So Sebastian would be pronounced Sebahtián. That dropped sound is one of the most defining things in Chilean pronunciation and the girl there didn’t do a good job in conveying it

There is nobody called Alejandro, Sebastian, Juan, Ronald, or NichoLAS in Brazil. We have our version for Spanish names with our own pronuncation: Alexandre, Sebastião, João, Ronaldo e NIcolas. That girl was trying to pronounce them literally with Portuguese accent, but we don't have exactly the same names.

Ela fala "João", está bem nítido. É a legenda que está errada, talvez pq João tem acento no nome e nos outros idiomas não tem. No espanhol o til só é usado em "ñ". Mas eles não têm o som "ão".
I can tell the Cuban girl is really young since she only got to know the Y Generation Names. Names like Sebastián and Nicolás are less common but they were more common before the 90's and they are pronounced like the other Spanish speaking girls. The only thing that she got right is the western Cuban accent that we can't pronounce r properly within a word.

For feminine, we emphasize the latter part of the name, and masculine, we emphasize the D, with the latter part of the name being a little harsher I suppose.

Verdade, boa parte da região do Texas até a Califórnia era território mexicano e já se falava espanhol naquela região
