  • Hello Darlings!! It's been a long while since I've posted as I have been busily working on finishing our 1940's/1950's bathroom..... and editing this long video!! I hope you all enjoy the video, I had so much fun being creative and couldn't be happier with the final result. I am head over heels in-love with our bathroom! 😂 Thank you all so much for watching and I'll see you next week for another video!

Add rail in toilet leaving bottom half painted green. The top half could be left cream or pickup a color off the wallpaper florals. You could put antique medicine cabinet on wall across from toilet. Painting and wallpapering a tight area with lots of angles is much more time consuming than a large rectangular room. Great Job, Sage & James! What you did looks lovely ❤

You would have loved my childhood home -- a little Tudor -- because it was built in the 20s and updated in the 40s. My parents bought it in the 70s and really leaned into the blend of styles. Our dining room looked like a tavern, there were wood floors throughout, and my dad put up wainscoting in several rooms. They only modernized the kitchen -- with avocado appliances, butter yellow cabinets, and daisy wallpaper! That house was so cozy and full of character.

@@QueenNoTeetha151 Oh dear, I think every building has spiders! They're mostly harmless, though, and they do keep other insects at bay. I haven't noticed a difference in the various places I've lived: WWI-era apartment, 1920s house, 1970s townhome, 1980s house. When it comes to old houses, I'm more concerned about whether the wiring is up to code.

You're my favorite vintage UA-camr. I love that you're a normal person with a normal house and a normal budget. A lot of the vintage bloggers on here are obvious trust fund kids with endless cash and it's really depressing watching them sometimes because I'm way too poor to keep up with them.

My thought in keeping the wall the same half green etc. would be so that the room felt like it flowed well. I think if you painted it all green it would feel heavy and crowded.

I love the bathroom. A rail in the toilet would look great. I hope you find a basket for that bottom shelf because storage in a bathroom is a must. @@SageLilleyman Loving the pedestal sink and fixtures! And beaded board is a great choice (in my 1940's bathroom, too!). And you are adorable!!! A suggestion for next remodel- bring the mirrored cabinet over the sink down lower. You will need to cut the dado rail to allow it to lie flush. If there is not a stud to hang it on, you can add a cross brace between studs to carry its weight. Re: Water Closet- I would paint it all cream since it is it's own little room. No dado rail. Then hang a simple single piece of art on wall if you think it needs a little 'something'. Additional thought- what do you think about painting the metal trim on shower surround cream, also? I think the two of you are doing an outstanding job! Good style, good taste, and good execution of the task at hand! What more could you want?! I appreciate how 'real' you are with sharing everything, too

Looks really nice. Idea for the water closet. Paint out with your Green. If you have any of the Wallpaper left you could search for a period picture frame and frame what you have left to tie into the main bath area. Just a thought 😊

    • @valeriekhall
      @valeriekhall Рік тому +4

Love that frame idea! I'm fond of the wallpaper in my own bathroom, but because it's as old as I am (I think), I'm going to have to replace it when I have some repairs done, as it's not made anymore. I think I'll see if I can cut out a section to frame, so I can remember the pretty history of my house. It's not as though I have a lot of pictures of the bathroom wall, after all. 😄 Thank you for the idea!

I thought of that idea years ago when I was in a similar situation as yourself. I found a new wallpaper that was similar to the old but it was too exspensive. I kept going back for samples to frame in a row giving the illusion of a papered wall. Not to mention the beautiful frames.

You could paint vertical pinstripes to mimic the vertical paneling, except the difference in width will keep it lively and interesting. And you could display any leftover wallpaper in a bright yellow or gold curvy frame(s) to balance out all those straight lines.

I had the same problems renovating the bathroom in my 1950’s house. The walls were paneling that was rotting away and when we pulled it down we found the outside walls. I painted and put up paneling too. I bought a mirror and matching cabinet from Amazon. It looks a lot like yours only no wall tile. I really thought I was the only person who would ever decorate like that.😂

What you've done on your bathroom so far has turned out great! It's all really beautiful but I especially love that you got rid of the clumsy vanity and replaced it with a more graceful-looking pedestal sink. Also love the contrast between the sink's shiny white porcelain and the green paneling behind it. The solid color below and the patterned wallpaper above is also a really beautiful effect. The way our bath looked when we bought our 1920s house is actually very similar to what you're creating. It had bead board walls, original oak floors, the original toilet and tub from 1925, plus a nice-looking pedestal sink from the 1990s. A lot of people would have ripped it out, but we kept it all. The only change we made was painting the walls a different color.

A simple solution for the toilet area is to use all green for the walls, keep white for the window frame, sill, baseboards and ceiling. It will look simple and cohesive yet not compete with what’s going on in the main part of the bathroom. I think someone else mentioned that your medicine cabinet could go on the wall behind the door although you might need a doorstop in order not to knock the door into the cabinet if there is a little clearance.

For the washroom toilet area, I would suggest picking a blue from the wallpaper, like the dusty blue grey of the birds, if you don’t want to go as dark or deep as navy, or maybe even a shade darker than the birds, but light enough to contrast against the green. Maybe add a cute fixture in there without a ton of overhead ceiling work. Alternatively, maybe adding a hand effect of something like metallic like gold, antiqued brass, bronze, rose gold or copper.

You are supposed to cut the wallpaper to size on the floor and then just put up the piece, that would be hard to do with the roll too...

My Dad, who was born in 1918, always said two things in the 1940's were VERY popular in home decor: wallpaper and painted furniture. His Mom's house had beautiful floral paper, not overdone much like your Laura Ashley paper. Just put the dado rail in the toilet, it would keep it from being too dark. I really like the soft colors of the bath, very relaxing! When you do something yourself, even though it takes time, you do it carefully and take pride in it. May I suggest signing and dating and under the wallpaper or behind some other place? So fun, and someday, you might see it again!

For your toilet room, paint it all green and add a nice vintage picture. Additionally, if there is room, can you add some shelving to hold toilet paper? That is the room that is needed in, lol! Maybe shelf directly behind the toilet?

I really think paper it ,that way if later you need to touchup spots youhave some xtra paper, not papering the toilet would just seem like an unfinished project ,u dont want the toilet to be dark gloomy and feel stinky you want it just as pretty and matching all the rest ,,i vote to paper it

What a beautiful result!!! You can be very proud of your work! I wouldn’t paint the toilet completely green. I think it will be to dark and maybe a little sad. I think you also need something bright/creamy in that room.

the bathroom is lovely,& I just love the sink & wall paper it compliments the paint, however where the toilet is I would never paint that all green that would look so dark. I would put the rail up half way ,top part a creme color & the antique cabinet in there as well! Have a lovely day !

You should be so proud of your hard work--the bathroom looks amazing. I love the frame you built for the mirror, what a perfect fix. I especially loved the cute squabble over the nails, reminds me of my husband and me, haha :) Best of luck finding your remaining pieces!

I think you should paint the toilet room all green! I also think it would look beautiful if you paint inside the alcove all green as well. I think it would elevate that area even more! 😍 LOVE the makeover!!

Lovely! I would paint it all green. If you add the trim and leave the top cream it will look like you ran out of wallpaper whereas if you paint it all green it will look more intentional. Plus it will give that space a little pop. If there's room, you could put the little wooden cabinet in there as well. It all looks very nice!

I love the wallpaper and the green you chose. My thoughts on the bathroom- pick an entirely different color from the wallpaper- maybe that lovely berry color (or a lighter tone of it) and paint the whole thing in that. Otherwise, existing paint and dado rail.
The bathroom looks lovely! ❤️ You guys should be so proud of yourselves.

The bathroom looks lovely! The paint color and wallpaper are an excellent match. Years ago I worked in a Laura Ashley store that also had a home section. I always thought their paper was pretty….and pretty expensive! Good job!

Paint the top of the toilet room a creamy-egg shell color. Then run the rail like the rest of the bathroom. Take a sample of the scraps left of the wallpaper and frame it as an artwork. Then hang on the opposite wall from the toilet the first aid cabinet you bought. Extra storage that is out of sight but still pretty to look at when you are in the space. Looks beautiful, Sage!

Love this bathroom😍 a helpful tip in uneven houses is to either take measurements from the floor up, or the ceiling down (be consistent with whichever you choose). It ends up looking level even if the house isn't.

I'd honestly wallpaper the toilet room as well. The bathroom is so beautiful. If the door was ever left open. It would blend perfectly with the rest of the bathroom. I wouldn't want my dream bathroom settling just because of left over wallpaper.

I think you should add the green chair rail in the toilet area to the same height as in the rest of the bathroom and then paint the top part in a cream shade that matches your wallpaper. Then add artwork/decor to the top painted portion.
