Apologizing for a show where no one was actually hurt has to be the least Black Metal thing ever
A couple of years ago, Marduk, a group of theistic Satanists who encourage people to murder each other as a sacrifice to Satan, started getting grief for commenting on WWII and one of the members doing the Roman salute. They apologised, and said they're not Nazis, and that doing the salute was super duper bad, which makes it ok or something. The whole thing was embarrassing.

So there's a bit of misconception about the Mayhem album cover controversy. Euronymous, who discovered Dead's body after committing suicide and took the picture, wanted to make it an album cover. But the band was obviously offended by it and didn't go through with it. However, he must have sent it to someone because the album we know as "the dawn of the black hearts" ended up getting made purely as a bootleg album. So just remember, if you see that album floating around it's not official.
