I don't I as a punker used to beef with scene kids
grew out of my emo phase, all except for combat boots, oversized glasses (like every scene kid), saggy beanies, jack skellington merch, band tees, and black jeans! those are things i still love and use today.
everything else were trends i couldn't participate in, like crazy dyed. i also developed allergies (latex allergy) and sensitivites (sensitive towards needles and metal), and the overly straightened hair gave me serious hair damage

Alsooo the beat thing about all of these styles is how you could just express yourself and use it to be part of this community, i dont anyone should be shamed for ehat they like or dislike and how they choose to look

Older metal guy here. I still do the wallet chain. It's practical. saved me from losing my wallet several times now cause it fell out.
One time my dad (who is only 43 now, a very young dad lol he grew up in the 90’s) expressed his distaste for wallet chains, and those who wear them 😂 and I was always like yeah but I mean how many times have you ran through the house looking for YOUR wallet LOL I figured it was practical as well as an alternative fashion and functional fashion is my favorite lol

I was in my early 20’s when the whole 2000’s emo/scene peaked and I went to a lot of music shows with colored skinny pants (one in almost every color) with studded belts, band tees (and bought a lot from those shows), and pink in some of my hair. I’ve also had my nose and eyebrow pierced but not at the same time and they couldn’t last long. Back then I lived in Minnesota but now I live in Texas so for going out I have a lot more mostly-black skirts, shorts, and dresses and occasionally still wear band tees and have pink in some of my hair. This is my style and i wear a lot of this stuff but i can a gree i hate all the jack skellington shit. It's funny how a style i like and thousands of others is seen as horrible and tacky to guys like this but i get it. Ive been dressing like this for almost 10 years.

I love all these trends tbh! except the wallet chain lol and I was in school when most of them were still around I wore the skinny jeans with the belts chucks/vans/toms ,and had the dyed puffy scene hair and eyeliner, now I’ve seen a lot of these emo styles recreated on TikTok.

Honestly i don't think it matters. You wear what you love regardless what others think. I may not be emo but i have respect for emos they did not deserve to get hate on ever. I met many emos who are very sweet and welcoming. Also know what it's like to be judged and harrassed on how i dress so it wouldn't make sense for me to do that aswell.

I was born in 2003, so I was in middle school around the late 2010’s, so luckily most of my HEINOUSLY cringe emo fashion choices where confined to those awkward years between 7th and 8th grade, but since high school my style has remained like a toned down version of emo?? Like black skinny jeans, st shirts with silly things or bands on them, converse/ vans and black hair LOL but the difference is nowadays I don’t straighten the HELL out of my hair, it’s its natural curl pattern, and I don’t really wear makeup anymore at all because I’m autistic and I DESPISE the way it feels on my face. So I essentially still have the base line emo look just without the over the top makeup/ accessories, and my hair is natural now accept for I color is black instead of its natural dark brown :)) it feel like myself, like an adaptation of alt style that feels just like me. I also have like no piercings anymore, accept my ears. I used to think I would NEVER retire ANY of them 😂
Still sporting my snake bite and Monroe piercing scars. 😅😅😅 I still have my stretched ears.

I was huge on pop punk like Fall Out Boy, My Chem, Sum 41, A Day To Remember, Neck Deep, State Champs, Paramore, The Story So Far, Real Friends
Then metalcore: Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, Parkway Drive, The Amity Affliction and Beartooth
But also bands that weren't considered emo like Linkin Park (my gateway band for sure) and Slipknot or even Rise Against
I still love all the music. It's just crazy to me how people blindly romanticize the past because apart from being bullied at school, there was alot of toxic shit going on online and I don't think much else apart from the music back then was fun (:

As an emo during the peak wave of emo. I Will say, some of these trends I just still keep but have adjusted to fit with me aging in maturity.
For eg I still wear skinny jeans but also sometimes wear looser jeans. I have a more fitted beanie now. Still having the snakebites piercing but hair more cut and refined. Etc etc
Point is, you can still age and embrace the best parts of the trends while forgetting the worst I.e skeleton , studded belts and v necks.
You can just dress as a more mature emo. I’m 28! Keep the scene alive but developing it rather than being stuck in past!
