I really enjoyed Teeling when I was first getting into Irish Whiskey. It still holds a place in my heart because it helped me realize I enjoyed Irish Whiskey and I never thought that would happen. It’s not RB or Spot Whiskey but it’s a decent pour. Thanks for your thoughts, I definitely agree there are better choices but I would never refuse a pour of this. Thanks for sharing some history, as always I appreciate hearing these stories.

The personal connection with a whisk(e)y certainly plays a roll in how the spirit resonates with a person. The further I get into my journey the more I realize this. Cheers!

I have almost always found Teeling Single Malts and Single Pot Still whiskeys to be lacking when compared to other Irish offerings. But I absolutely love their NAS Single Grain matured in California wine barrels.

Had a bottle of Teeling Small Batch. It was unremarkable. Haven't bothered to try any of their other offerings since. This review backs up that decision! Thanks, Peter!

I keep thinking Teeling will change once they consistently put out older stuff that's theirs. Not the older Cooley stuff. The Cooley casks might be too weak to hold up to other brands.

I have this exact same bottle. I felt the same way as I was comparing it to the Redbreast CS and it just didn't hold up. It was okay, but not WOW. Another good episode!!

I've only had the small batch. It was my flask filler, for St. Patrick's Day parade season, in chilly New Jersey. 🍀🇮🇪

I would have to think long and hard about what I would put into a flask for St. Patrick's Day or any season for that matter. Cheers!

    Another solid video Peter.
Fair and accurate description. I have 7 or 8 different Teeling including the one reviewed. It is good but I always go to a Redbreast or a Spot first for Irish pot still. Do not make the mistake I made and get the Teeling Red Wine finished. It cost me over 100 and maybe worth 35.

Thanks for the heads up. I think I have an idea of what Teeling is all about. Maybe in the future if something peaks my interest I'll pick something up, but for now I'm putting the brakes on purchasing anything from them.

I really liked your review. I have become a fan of pot still whiskey and this was my introduction to a cask strength variation. I didn't pick up on the floral and lemon aromas like you did but got the vanilla, apple, grape and biscuit notes along with honey and a little cream. Definitely peppery and lasts a while on the tongue, which I liked. A bottle cost me $90 and am enjoying it but not as much RB, John's Lane or Green Spot, all of which I can get for a much better price. Glad I tried, influenced my decision to try RB cask strength available locally at $110.

Look out for John's Lane CS this year. This is one I'm on the lookout for.

I've only had the Teeling Small Batch. I got similar notes and also landed on that it is just ok.

I was hoping for more from this bottle. I think I will revisit Teeling in a few years and see if my opinion changes. Until then, I will slowly work my way through the 4 bottles I have.

Thanks for the review, I have not tried this yet, I've been keeping my eyes out for it. I do hold Irish Whiskeys against Redbreast or the Spots which is in this price range. You just helped bump it down the list, which is much appreciated, their is too much out their to try. Jumping up in price would be Midleton but I don't see ever spending more than I have on a couple of bottles of Midleton. In the lower price range for me would be Jameson Black Barrel or a Bushmills 12. A review I needed, thank you!

I'm happy to hear that this video helped. Too much money for the experience it delivers. That's unfortunate because I wanted to like this bottle.

@@whiskeyisajourney To me if it's not on par with a Redbreast 12yr CS, same price then it's not worth it. Our palates line up pretty well so I will easily take your assessment with much appreciation. 😁 Thanks again!

I would agree, the Teeling Pot Still is not hitting top score although they have produced a new Cask strength with Celtic Whiskey Shop much fuller nutty/fruit flavour. Definitely an improvement. Enjoyed the presentation very full, liked the back story and the discussion on the addition of water. Nice length as well.

Thanks. I try to keep the Monday and Wednesday reviews on track. Not a lot of fluff.

Interesting. I generally don't get a floral note on Irish Whiskey. I have got lemon zest before. I haven't tried Teeling, though. The shortbread note to me is similar to Girlscouts' Tagalongs.

I normally don't get floral notes either, but this one has it. Not only have I not had an Irish shortbread biscuit, I also have not had Girlscouts' Tagalongs. I think it's about time I try the two.

I have never tried nor fancied getting a bottle of Teeling. As some folks have pointed out, I stick with RB and the Spots. Maybe those Irish whiskies set the bar high for some of us experiencing a meh moment with Teeling and other Irish offerings.

You definitely need to try a short bread biscuit mate, they are very nice....never had this whiskey so no idea if it has the taste of short bread though.

The next time I'm at the store I'll look for a box or container and taste them. I should have done this a long time ago. Cheers!

'... that I really do want to like.' This is how I feel about Canadian whisky. I want to like it. I keep trying different ones. And not liking most. There are good ones, but I've never had a great one. Also, Irish is still lost on me.

I hear what you are saying. Everything about this one indicates I should like it, but I just don't and that disappoints me.

You need to try Walkers Shortbread. Trust me. Is this worth $60 on sale?
