My wife and I went a couple months ago and you nailed it. This is a place you plan on spending more money than you would normally. You can find $10 pours of you want to. But what’s the point in going here for that? My wife ordered me a pour of Black Arts because she saw me hesitating, but knew I would remember it forever. She was right.
For reference - the average cost per pour in the DC area is generally higher. It’s usually $14 a pour anywhere you go for a decent whiskey. Jack Rose is a tad more expensive, yes, but it’s not totally out of line for the DC area.
Glad you guys are venturing into other avenues of whisky/whiskey, such as Amrut. There’s great stuff from all over the world that’s just waiting to be discovered & enjoyed for those willing to be adventurous.
Great video - thanks for sharing. Lucky to call JR my “local”. Bill, Chris, Kyle and the whole JR team are fantastic. Every trip there is an adventure. They also put on great masterclasses throughout the year, and their picks are always top notch. Highly recommend.
Great video! I used to live in Arlington, VA, stumbled across (figuratively) this place and was simply in AWE of the collection! I found myself there about every 6 weeks until I moved to Florida and every time I traveled back. And if you did not try, their food is pretty tasty too
Awesome, I have an unopened Glory Days bottle and yes it is Macallan. SMWS does some amazing Macallan bottles for sure! Also great seeing other familiar faces in the video!
This was such an awesome video! Doing something that you really want and have to wait to do is a big deal. So people can say you might have spent way too much on a pour and it wasn’t worth the $18. But it’s not there experience, it’s yours and if it was worth it to you then it was more than worth the amount spent per pour! Honestly, I really enjoyed seeing what you guys decided to try and get a little story about it too! Amazing video! Thanks for taking us along for the experience. Take care and enjoy the pours 🥃!
I opened and enjoyed that 2000's russells got one left probably never gonna open it now lol cheers guys heaps cool to see the older bottlings and seeing all the cool bottles .Australia needs one of these types of locations .definitely go back and just pay for pours of the old ones you'll forever regret it once its gone do it for the people 😅
Love those dusty Turkeys. Any time I’m at a bar that has vintage pours and I feel choice paralysis, that’s my go-to. Even if it’s not the famed cheesy gold foil, 80s and 90s WT is SO good
I'm SOLD. We were thinking about going to D.C. for the African-American Museum (it takes two days to see all the exhibits!) but I could see taking our son with us to hit Jack Rose Saloon. He'll have to bring his own $$$ though!
Looks like a fantastic bar. You must have been like kids in a candy store 🙂. If you wanna try another indian whiskey try the Indri trini. Cheers guys 🥃
16:10 speaking of swordfish, it reminded me of Mark Rosewater's swordfish story. Does it have anything to do with whiskey? No. With Magic the Gathering (which MaRo is in charge of making)? No. I just remembered it because it's a silly story about getting a swordfish for a movie director :)
Looking at the menu, those pour prices are the highest I’ve ever seen. The Stanley Hotel (in Colorado) was the priciest whisky bar I’ve been to, but it doesn’t seem so pricy now.
If I'd spent a few hours drinking different whiskies in a bar I'd be too snockered to walk...which is one reason I don't go to bars. It can take me a couple of hours to finish a glass, and bars don't like people nursing a single drink that long, which would pressure me to drink more than I want to. 🙂 I wonder if Jack Rose has anything that they don't make anymore...
Looks like a cool place but it also looks like the second highest pricing I've seen at a whiskey bar. Maybe I'll call to see if they have any new store picks for sale when I'm in DC but not interested $40 stagg pours for 1oz lol
I think it’s fair to budget for 4x the per oz cost vs what you would pay retail. Something that would be $120 a bottle is not going to be $5 …it willl be $20 per oz.
The 1960's Michter's would have been from the original Michter's distillery in Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania. Absolutely nothing to do with the current owners of the name. This was the oldest distillery in the country when they closed in 1990.
A place like this is going to be expensive because they have so many bottles. It costs a lot of money to keep all those bottles around. And they're in DC. Which ain't a cheap city. If you want great selection for the price go to Nickel City in Austin.
For whiskey selection Jack Rose is great, but I wouldn't recommend them for cocktails. Pretty sad that the supposed number 1 bourbon bar in the country makes old fashioneds with small ice cubes (personal pet peeve)
Dang, still figuring out the graphics. And here's more along the lines of what I had in mind the 1st time I sent a gift
Thank you so much!!!!

That Old Charter 7 year is so good. I had some a while back from a bottle from 1965 and it was delicious.
Didn't see you guys were in town! This is my fav spot since moving to Virginia 7 years ago! Glad you guys got to finally check it out!
Thanks for the recap guys!!! Seems like a fantastic option to add to the bucket list! Much appreciated.
Sounds like you had lots of fun and good whiskey. Great for you!
This place is on my list now !!! Westland American Oak is lovely ..runs about $70’in NC !!!

Love that y’all are exploring scotch and asm. There a big whisk(e)y world out there.
I've been meaning to go to an SMWS tasting there for ages, it looks like you had a very fun time.
Smokers friendly old scout barrel pick is phenomenal!!! I’m picking up another bottle if any is left for a back up

Great video. This place is in my backyard. Need to plan a visit. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks so much for the comment!
Thanks!
Thank you so much!! 🥃
I remember the Kentucky Spirit (turkey feather) bottle kill we all did in Frankfort last year for Bourbon on the banks festival.
Was a nice video, I enjoyed and was very informative in case I take a trip!

Thank you both for the video I could tell you had a great time 🥃
Love this place! During covid I was about to buy a bottle of Glenmorangie cake from them to support the place. The staff are super knowledgable
Thanks for sharing a really cool whiskey bucket list experience!
Would love to go there. Great video yeah it can get out of hand rapidly. You are correct if your getting something that old it’s gonna cost.
Love those dusty Turkeys. Any time I’m at a bar that has vintage pours and I feel choice paralysis, that’s my go-to. Even if it’s not the famed cheesy gold foil, 80s and 90s WT is SO good
What a place! Literal whisky heaven
Really enjoyed the video. Great content
I have a bottle of J.W.Dant from 1967 , it looks just like the bottle there but mine has a black plastic screw top
I want a video of you us walking out - lol!!
I'm SOLD. We were thinking about going to D.C. for the African-American Museum (it takes two days to see all the exhibits!) but I could see taking our son with us to hit Jack Rose Saloon. He'll have to bring his own $$$ though!
Tip toe 120 proof. Love it lol
Loooove these kinda vids…more plz

Looks like so much fun but yeah, wow - high prices. Whiskey Bar in Boise is more affordable. Lots of fun... doesn't approach this selection though.
Fantastic you guys
Y'know... I work in D.C. and have yet to visit Jack Rose. I need to fix that.
Great video! Did you guys bring anything home from the bottle shop? I have a friend going this weekend and he was gonna bring me something back.

If you kill a bottle will they let you keep the bottle? That Kentucky Spirit bottle is cool!
WHISKEY CHEERS 🍻

Yeah, it's expensive, but a great way to try before you buy an "investment" bottle, or just to tame the FOMO.
Asking for opinions, is the kentuck owl batch 12 worth buying, online for 200. Didn't know if the new releases post Dixon any good?
It sounded like a gas!
For whiskey selection Jack Rose is great, but I wouldn't recommend them for cocktails. Pretty sad that the supposed number 1 bourbon bar in the country makes old fashioneds with small ice cubes (personal pet peeve)
So pappy 23 was $9,144 a bottle
Shart? I had trouble listening without the shart mistake. And the last time I sharted in my pants. Haha
Try living 30min away.... broke boi summer!
Dear God! If a bartender poured me a drink out of something that looked that medical, I'd get up and walk out.
Whelp, DC honey hole is gone now….😅😅😅
Hahaha never heard Jack Rose described as a honey hole! Haha 😂
@@ItsBourbonNight hahaha…wrong video. Meant to comment on the DC video. That’s the honey hole. Jack is just okay.
You traveled 9 hours to the world's largest bourbon selection to drink scotch? Bit odd lol
Because your married you can share a pour?? 😂 is it a rule in The US that unless your married you can't share glass?
Yeah, it’s a weird law we have here.
😂😂
The money you would spend here can go towards your bourbon collection. Don’t be a momo.
Already annoyed seeing “Whisk(e)y” in the title 😂
Careful your smugness is coming out…
