- In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view from Schynige Platte - Wilderswil in Switzerland along the Schynige Platte mountain rack Railway. You can enjoy this video in the resolution 4K/60 frames per second.
The Schynige Platte Railway is a mountain railway in the Bernese Highlands area of Switzerland, which connects the town of Wilderswil, near Interlaken, with the famous wildflower gardens of the Schynige Platte. It is built to 800 mm gauge (2 ft 7+1⁄2 in gauge) and is electrified using a 1500 V DC overhead supply. It is a rack railway, using the Riggenbach rack with a maximum gradient of 25% . The Schynige Platte Railway commences from Wilderswil station at an altitude of 584 m (1,916 ft), where it connects with the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) metre gauge line of the Berner Oberland-Bahn (BOB), which operates to Interlaken Ost, Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald.
In the final stretch of the ascent, views open up of the glistening giants of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains to the south. The line terminates at Schynige Platte station at an altitude of 1,987 m (6,520 ft), after a journey of 7.25 km (4.50 mi) and a height gain of 1,420 m (4,659 ft). The Schynige Platte alpine botanical garden, a hotel and a mountain restaurant are all located near the summit station. The line only operates in summer months, from the beginning of June to the middle of October. As the upper section of the route, between Breitlauenen and the summit, is subject to heavy winter snowfall and occasional avalanches, the overhead catenary on this section is dismantled after the last train of the year, and reinstated before the first train of the next year can run.
The line opened, using steam traction, in May 1893, and was electrified in 1914.

I remember taking that ride in June about 20 years ago and the crew had to get out to clear snow off the line in a couple of spots. It is a truly spectacular line and has sheer drops in places. Thanks for the excellent video!

Thank you for this video and for all infos mentionned in and out of this. Spectacular and nice cab ride with very beautiful landscapes seen, particularly I've appreciated at 3.54, 4.19, 19,57 and 24,54. Sun during this cab ride, even if it was not always visible, due to the situation of the tracks and perhaps the time.

It’s a cogwheel train - the only way possible to climb this height, and descend with a train. The cogwheel needs time to grip into its rail (that’s the rail in the middle).

Using GPS in the mountains gave a few weird height and speed figures in the tunnels and bends. I have seen this happen when the device cannot get 4 or more signals to calculate position.

Now old and housebound the Swiss rail films is brilliant to bring back so many memories of walks on your stunning mountain paths. change camera u r videos uploaded 4k60fps.. but u r camera is not 4K or bad.
@proserhat My videos are 4k, but being 60fps makes them very heavy and sometimes the oscillations In the internet connection does not help, so the UA-cam shows them at the lower resolution.

Very very very nice views, sadly video quality a little bit out of focus. Everything seems blurred, I have to turn my own visualization methods to sharpen the view :)
@relaxation_ambience Sorry to hear that.Maybe it is the internet connection. The video is in high quality and thats why it uses a lot of data to be able to run smoothly.
@@RailRelaxation No, I have extremely fast internet connection. Most likely poor camera quality, even if it says 4k. It's definitely not professional camera, looks like gopro/dji, but could be even worse. On your other videos professional cameras was not used also, but it was less out of focus/less blur. I work with video/photography and understand, that you can't expect best quality with small action cameras, but this time video was too much out of details. Hopefully next time it will be better, cheers ;)
