I am a creator of road videos, but for me it's important what you see from the mean of transportation, not specially the mean of transportation itself. Thanks for sharing such beautiful cab rides, greetings from Germany!

    You-Tuber Simply Railway did a rider video about a week ago from Saint Raphael to Cannes also. So I get to reminisce about my family's visit to the French Rivera in 1960. Dad was in the USAF stationed in France and our last vacation was a trip to Italy in June of 1960. We stopped in Saint Raphael and ended up spending two days there. I remember riding through Frejus and seeing wreckage in the trees. A dam collapse in December had devastated the area, killed 400+. Railway note: gated crossing in France and Italy had a house for the gate keeper. At that time gates were manual. We crossed into Italy and at the first crossing the gates were down. After line of cars were waiting two teen aged boys come out and go down the wanting to wash car windows for cash or cigarettes. They reach the end of the line and the gates go up. A few miles, sorry, kilometers down the rode same thing happens at the next crossing, and the one after that. By the fourth or fifth one, I am certain the gate keeper knew he had little chance of revenue so that practice ended. The good old days.

    Really liked the use of vintage photographs from pre-electrification days, lorirocks. Truthfully wouldn't mind seeing such for ALL the stations in any given trip, as well as for other critical structures like tunnels, viaducts, major switch towers, et cetera. No objections either if these scenes were also placed at the video's end in a slide show so they could be viewed full screen.
    Any idea what that ruin glimpsed to the left at 15:56 is?

    Of note is the very long platforms at most stations. There must have been/is a lot of passenger traffic to warrant such capacity? Also there appears to be no freight capacity at any of the Med side stations nor evidence of sidings until the freight 'yard' at Cannes

      Long stations are mostly for TGV trains (400 meters), and for long range regionnal trains (Marseilles-Nice). The regional traffic do not use all the lenght.

    • @olivierkarlalan7501
      @olivierkarlalan7501 3 роки тому

      Freight is now a mere shadow of it self on this line, with just a little over a handful of trains per day (more than a dozen back in the 70s), mostly trains between Miramas marshalling yard and Italy, and a few unit trains to industrial spurs of course. Worth of notice is the reinstatement of the Port of Toulon branch line in late 2020. Traffic is to be handled by short-liner RDT13 on a twice a week basis. Nice had once a container terminal, but has been out of order since a while.

    Hi, Lorilocks. Ich bin wieder einmal drei Tage zu spät dran. Obwohl dieses Video für mich gemacht scheint. Lass mich in Englisch weiterfahren, so that my English will not fall into oblivion like my French. From 1960 to 1965 I spent my summer vacations in the Estrel Area, but mostly in the water and not in the mountains. It was in a Camping site between La Levandou and Bormes-les-Mimosas. And your video brought back wonderful memories. You also surprised me because you stated to be weaker in French than me. Remember my comment during the trip Basel - Delemont where you claimed that your French was bad. Today you proved the contrary. Thanks a lot and best regards. :-) Herbert

I have spent $2000 on cameras, $2300 on hardware and software, $500 on Sd cards and at least $1200 on hard drives in the last 2 years. Furthermore, contributors who make videos like Paolo also receive a share of the income. Nobody pays the 20+ hours I spend editing each video, colour correcting, researching and putting everything together.

    I notice that French railway drivers are very horny. Oh wait, rephrase, use their horns a lot more than others.
    Also what is the line voltage here. I would assume 1.5kv, but I think that is old history.
    And finally thank you for this and your other videos. 👍
