I recently saw some preppers use waxed hemp thread and wrap it around the lighters. It is a fire extender whereby you can light it thus saving your fluid in the lighters, and you can also use it to start your tinder just like you would use a candle for example. Another great and light option is the birthday candles that you can't blow out (without some effort). This gets you a lot more time to start your tinder without wasting your fuel.
This is smart. You could also keep a larger waxed hemp thread with an aluminum straw to smother it quickly. I see the wrap around the lighter itself as a smart contingency, whereas I'm more likely to use a dedicated line of the stuff in a non-emergency context
Not only that. The law of three. Thjs guy is ridiculous for carrying more than 3 fire starters. Unless you start to deploy on some millitary spec ops, his "every day carry" is totally unnecessary.
I love this set up and it will fit in a cargo pocket on cammies while hunting looks a lot like what i did myself but i only had one bic lighter in mine also i had fatwood instead of fire rope. Where can i get that product? Also i had plenty of wet fire cubes and in my front mesh pocket i carry some water proof fire straws and i carry a knife and ferro rod but no saw in it .( need to get one ) also need to get a small twig stove simular to yours right now i have a pocket cooker folding twig stove works great but can only carry it in either a pack or but pack. Thanks for the ideas, keep up the good work.
I use the fire logs you can find at most stores and split them into smaller pieces for tinder. I place the pieces in a small freezer bag inside one of my backpack pockets. I've found it to be a cheap alternative to the latest and greatest commercialized gear. I've used them with the magnesium blocks when everything is wet and still have a fire to keep warm by. I also, keep a few Bic lighters and a ferro rod like you have in my kit with waterproof matches. I use a Gerber saw with a replaceable blade that can be used to split game and saw wood. Nice organization of your kit!
Part of what spawned this new kit was me also losing my old Gerber saw in addition to a ferro rod. Really bummed about the saw but I really like the silky. My hiking buddy used to split fire logs and it’s a great solution / alternative for tinder. I just might add a couple pieces to the kit this week!
Nice, like the multiple options on that Silky, smallest one I've seen. Wonder why they don't make it with a 90 degree option...more natural for the hand in my opinion.
A very good kit there. 👍🏼👍🏼 Something I like to keep in my fire kits is a light source. Be it a small flashlight, or a glow stick, getting set up to make a fire after it got really dark on you isn’t all that fun. The BlastMatch has a most excellent ferro rod. Same as with the Strike Force, which is one of my favorite ’all in one’ fire kits.

I’ve done that on other kits but not this one. I’ll have to get some more!

Prefer 2 or 3 smaller kits spread out.
All eggs in one basket sort of thing.

nice vid bro. try a folding hand fan of some sort, works 10 times better than a bellow as a force induction method.
3 rd. class all the way .
your missing a piece of flit and a carbon steel striker and fat wood jute cord and a magnified glass as well but other then that great kit
Good kit. Well thought out.

I think you’ll need a different style handle if you wanted a 90° or perpendicular but as is, I am very happy with it.
Great kit, Ive used Vaseline cotton balls and fat wood as an extender. Worked every time for me.

I usually have this with me while hiking/camping and have a small light in that pack as well as an edc light but I think that’s a worthwhile addition!
A 111mm Victorinox model would be a great replacement for the Silky saw.
I have a treker but use it in a different camping kit. I considered moving it but the silky is a great tool!
