Thanks for reacting to this. I was 11 years old when this song came out in 1976. I had a very nice set of headphones I had gotten for my birthday that I hooked up to my stereo and would listen to my local rock station (WROQ in Charlotte) every night in bed just before I went to sleep. Pitch dark, eyes closed. It was magical. The night I heard this song when it was first released, I was mesmerized from start to finish. It was a journey, sounds I had never heard in a song. It was the first song I ever heard that made me say, “I HAVE to get that album tomorrow”. The next day, my mom took me to the mall and it was the first album I bought with my own money, lol. My friends, girlfriend, and I loved attending concerts when I was in high school/college. It was one of the things we loved doing together. My wife did the same thing during that time period as well. There were a huge number of wonderful groups at the time and concerts were not very expensive to attend. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I cannot describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young in the 70’s/80’s compared to today. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was much more carefree, and the music was spectacular. Our 4 adult children (29-33) love 70’s/80’s music just as we do. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.

In High School (1976-1979) my best friend and I would DJ dances and small parties for extra money on the side. We started every gig with Foreplay/Long Time. We lived in Colorado Springs. The Olympic Training Center asked us to DJ there one weekend. At the time we had no idea that the hockey team from the Miracle on Ice in 1980 was in attendance. What a time to be alive.
released 8/25/76 ...arguably the greatest debut album ever produced its believed to be the only 1970s album that still had every track in regular rotation on classic rock radio into the 2000s
Dude... you just need to listen to the whole album, sides 1 & 2 (I'm an old dude). Every song on this record is a classic. I never tire of listening to it.
Recorded in a Basement down the street from me. Determination, sweat, a “we are making this album if it kills us” attitude. The quality is incredible! This took sorcery! Now anybody can record music.
Tom Shultz was the composer and creator of all of the Boston songs. He worked at a camera company and went on his own and outfitted is basement into the studio where they did all the music
The first Boston album is one of the best debut albums of all time. Every song is top tier. My personal favorite is Hitch A Ride. The closing guitar solo is pure magic. You can't go wrong with any track from this album.
This entire album is a masterpiece and when you get the backstory which I hope you do you will understand it really needs to be up there as one of the best debut albums ever.
I have never met anyone who doesn't burn for this tune. It must have one the broadest appeals in all music. It just HITS in so many ways. The stars simply aligned around this recording.
It’s amazing how even nearly 50 years later you can immediately tell that it’s genius. They had such a unique sound, you could always tell it was a Boston tune!
Most of the intro was recorded in a walk-in coat closet in his basement. It helped achieve the surround sound with the organ effects. He found the sound was better with the coats hung up as it absorbed more of the range.
Boston's debut album "Boston" was released in August 25, 1976. Every cut on this album made airplay on all 3 Rock Stations in Detroit. Yes, I'm that old...
I believe I was 19 when this "8-track" came out. I was driving a 72 Plymouth Roadrunner at the time and hearing More than a Feeling for the first time, convinced me to buy the tape. What a musical and metaphysical trip that was. This whole album is, as you say, a masterpiece. It's timeless, as all the gods of music have gifted us. This is one of the greatest albums of all time and thank you for your very invested reaction. I enjoyed your epiphany. Rock on!!
Every single song off of that album is a banger, can't wait for you to check out more. Back when this came out, I was a teenager and there was no other band like this. People were blown away by it. Truly one of a kind. It arrived in 1976
Tom Shultz also cut the demo and recorded the album in his basement , you should read up on Tom and Boston ! With the job you have , you will be amazed what he pulled off . Since the first album Boston has been my number band !!
You’ve probably heard this before, but ALL of the vocals are done by singer, Brad Delp. ALL lead, ALL backing, and ALL harmonies. All just layers of Brad.

I was 14 years old when this came out, it changed the music world. Saw them live in 1978 after the Don't Look Back album release. Still the best concert I have ever seen and was the best $6 I ever spent.
So good. This was actually my first ever concert. 1978 (I was 13) Anaheim Stadium. Van Halen then Sammy Hagar then Black Sabbath then Boston. Never forget that day.
@@williamreiser3118 It was. Nobody really knew who Van Halen was, their first album had just dropped and you really got me was the only song they were playing on the radio. Supposedly this is where VH and Hagar first met. Black Sabbath actually wasnt on top of their game, unfortunately. This was about 2 months before Ozzy left the band and they were......not all there.
When I was going to school at Indiana University in the late 70s, this album was blaring out of every window on campus so much of the time. This and Frampton Comes Alive.
This album took several years because Tom sholrz (MIT grad and genius behind this) had to desig and build the pedals. He founded the Rockman brand. He played the organ and guitars, enginwred and produced this album. Bad Delp was the vocalist.
The LP “Boston” was recorded in the basement of a single family home. An LP that doesn’t have fillers. Great music from the first track of side one to last track of side two.
Years ago, my family was playing a board game. We wanted some music to go with it and pulled out a Boston greatest hits cassette. We liked Boston, but never bought any albums and weren't sure where it came from. But soon realized that EVERY song was a hit. Now as I go back over their songs, I realize how utterly spectacular the music is!!

But when i see the excitement and enjoyment from others, it brings it all back. Fun fact: 1989 my mother went to see boston 8 months pregnant with me, its how i got my name Amanda. Thank you for your videos.
It's hard to wrap your mind around that 1 guy , Tom Shultz wrote and played the instruments on the demo . Also built what he needed to get the sounds he wanted !!!!
@johnniecalhoun5381 It is a well documented fact that Jim Masdea played drums on the demo that caught Epics attention and that was given to Bolylan and that led to the record deal with Epic. Tom dould not play the drum parts on this record. He does not have that kind of groove and he does not have a command of the rudiments and chops needed to play the drums on this record or the demo
One of the things I love about Boston is Brad Delp's vocals have such range and melds into the high guitar solos! Masterful singer. Tom Shultz is a genius invented a lot of the equipment on this recording because he could not get what he needed it didn't exist. He performed recorded and mixed all of the musical parts himself. Brought in Brad to do the vocals. Hired the best top musicians to do the tours. Best Debut album ever! Album is a masterpiece!
@anway1953 That is some urban legend. Tom did not invent the Scully tape machine that he used. Tom did not invent the console that he used. Tom did not invent the Shure mics that he used. Tom did not invent the large variable resistor taken from a theater lighting system that he used as a "power soak" at the time this record was made. Tom did not invent the Marshall SLP tube amp that he used. The Rockman did not exist at this time. So what equipment are you talking about? Tom did not record Brads vocals. Boylan did and he did it at big name LA studios. If Tom would have had complete control, was able to work alone and according to his schedule and unlimited studio time to do so that he did not have to pay for, this record could have easily been made in a big name LA studio. It is well documented that this record was mixed at Westlake Studios by Boylan, Warren Dewey and Tom with assistance from Steve Hodge. This notion that Tom just brought Brad in to sing on this record is so disrespectful to Brad and not the truth. Brad sang on Toms demos for years before this record was made. When Epic heard the demo that was given to them and to Boylan, they saw Brads voice as a vital and huge part of the Boston sound and music so much so that Brad and Tom were both signed by Epic at the same time. The band as pictured on the back of the record recorded Let Me Take You Home along with two other songs that did not make it to the record at The Record Plant LA before the record was finished and before any tour was even planned.
Finally got to see these guys when they put out their 3rd album (10 years after this debut). They played the entire "Third Stage" album, then tore through some of the bangers off this and their second album, "Don't Look Back." It was an awesome show and glad I got to see them. 😊
"The mix is phenomenal" -- Tom Scholz crafted this entire experience in his basement, playing most of the instruments, building the electronics for the effects, and blending Brad Delp's matchless vocals into an unforgettable layer of sound. There are no words for how much impact this album had when it debuted, and it's still unmatched for overall quality.
@DavidTateVA Not quite. This record was mixed in LA at Westlake Studios by Boylan, Warren Dewey and Tom with assistance from Steve Hodge. According to Boylan mixing this record was a Tug of war because Tom kept burying the vocals and the drums in the mix. Tom pushed the electric guitars and cymbals so hard that Boylan and Dewey had to counter in order to keep Brads vocals from being buried in the mix and for the drums to be in the mix. This resulted in Westlakes then new and top of the line API console being driven into manual compression. All of Brads vocals were recorded at either Capital Studios Studio C or at The Record Plant LA, and one entire song, Let Me Take You Home was recorded at The Record Plant LA. At the end of the day approximately 25% of the tracks on this record were recorded by Boylan in LA. Tom does not like to talk about this fact but when Boylan heard the drum and acoustic instrument tracks that Tom submitted, he rejected them because they were too amateurish (Boylans word not mine) to use on the record. Boylan then hired LA engineer Paul Grupp to go to Toms studio and tutor Tom on how to record drums and acoustic instrument properly as well as proper mic placement. At the end of the day, Boylan had more of an effect on how this record sounds than Tom lets on.
This was my anthem for leaving "home" for a new place somewhere far away to make a new start at college or work. Pumped me up to the long journey and new beginnings. Heavy radio play in the late 70s, but one of my brothers recorded a cassette from his vinyl before he left home in 78, so that was what I had for a such a long time.
When it comes to Boston, it's not just the vocals, especially with Brad Delp, but their instrumentals are just fantastic. Others have already mentioned of how they first started recording in a basement.
I was a teenager in the 70’s driving around in my “souped” up 1969 Mach 1 Mustang blasting Skynyrd, Zeppelin, Marshall Tucker, Boston, The Outlaws, Rush, Aerosmith, and many others. The greatest musical time period to be a teenager. Nothing like it. Enjoy the journey Steven🤘.
One of the Best All Time Rock albums. Every song is Excellent. Had this on 8-track. Blew my 16 year old brain in 1976. Saw them in 1995 . RIP Brad Delp.

When this album came out I was getting ready to graduate high school. Driving around in my 1965 98 Oldsmobile with this screaming loud and proud ! The entire album is killer. What You hear first is a wurlitzer organ.
I saw Boston right after this came out in NYC Madison Square Garden then a few years later Giant Stadium in NJ Meadowslands at one of the all day multi band concert 10 bucks general admission. Those great times will never be repeated and I'm so glad of all the great bands we saw in the 70's. Nothing like it.

This ages like a timeless symphony and especially the more one learns about its production
Young man... Welcome
to the World I grew up in.. Much of music of my early years was ground breaking! 😊🎉
@@neechee5150 Great info -- thanks for replying.
Total eargasm!💯🔥❤️✌️
Love Boston!❤❤❤
This was my anthem for leaving "home" for a new place somewhere far away to make a new start at college or work. Pumped me up to the long journey and new beginnings. Heavy radio play in the late 70s, but one of my brothers recorded a cassette from his vinyl before he left home in 78, so that was what I had for a such a long time.
Next up from Boston:
Hitch a Ride
My favorite Boston song. Yessss.
Jealous, here! A ‘69 Mach 1? I bet you wish you still had that! Or, maybe you do…
You’re right. I wish I still had it😢.
One of the Best All Time Rock albums. Every song is Excellent. Had this on 8-track. Blew my 16 year old brain in 1976. Saw them in 1995 . RIP Brad Delp.
Boston is so much fun musically and every other way too!
Every song on this album got ..still gets radio play..even this long jam
All right my brother Stephen.... I really wish I could have had the privilege to see this band live. Great song and great reaction ‼️💯🔥🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

He Gets It!! ( Mr. Sholtz) He REALLY GETS IT!! Music Can Cross,The Divides Of Time , Culture , Race, Gender And All Types , Of Societal Bias And False Perceptions , To Enjoy The Sonic Frequencies& Resonances And The Message/ Wisdom And Magic Of A Song/😒 Musical Composition!! 🤔🎶😁 👍 🔊🎶🎵🎶 😄
😄👋 👍😎 🔊 🎶
Best band ever! So many layers and elements to their music. Unreal 🔥🔥🔥
When this album came out I was getting ready to graduate high school. Driving around in my 1965 98 Oldsmobile with this screaming loud and proud ! The entire album is killer. What You hear first is a wurlitzer organ.
This damn album how can something be so dirty and slick at the same time?
Hell Yeah Boston Let's Go!!
Your passion for music comes across in your reactions big time. Makes it really fun to watch. I remember when this album debuted, everyone was blown away. Basically every song on it became a radio hit and it just exploded. Still one of the greatest debut albums of all time IMO. Let’s GO!!
Really appreciate that! Let’s Goooo!!
