Classic Game Room - PILOTWINGS RESORT for 3DS review

- Classic Game Room reviews PILOTWINGS RESORT for Nintendo 3DS from Nintendo, an excellent, relaxed version of PilotWings that uses the 3D effect nicely and has awesome controls and visuals. Pilot Wings Resort on Nintendo 3DS has superb gameplay that allows players to fly around Wuhu island with a variety of aircraft and a jetpack and gliders to explore, complete challenges and carpet bomb locals. From Monster Games and Nintendo, Pilotwings Resort could be the most enjoyable 3DS specific launch title because it's fun (most importantly!), well made and has enough challenges and island exploring options to keep players happy and coming back for more.

This game is so underrated and under loved.
Dan Becker looks like it, I've only JUST found out about it
Kinda, but it'll never be worth $40
julianx2rl wait it's that expensive?? I just pirated it on freeshop lol
What happens if you fall on the floor, do you just lose or you can walk or smth????
I remember having played this game in a 3ds that belonged to a shop for like fews minutes YEARS ago, but like YYEARS ago, when i didn't buy my own 3ds yet
I really dig your reviews!
I just bought this game off Ebay and thus review helped me buy it. I've played the N64 version years ago and loved it. I'm in the process of building up my video game collection and have my eye on Nintendo and Sega for now. Thanks Mark for the review!
used to have the N64 version
both are great games
Keatstone 21 finally someone who thinks the same thing
Finally! Glad you enjoyed this game. The best launch title out of the ones I've played, so charming, and punishingly difficult at times too.
been waiting for this. More on the 3ds please.
Went back and replayed this a little bit last week. All my top 5 high scores were from 2011! Cant believe it’s been over ten years.
Aww MAN!!! This game looks SOOO awesome!! It's got a lot of Deku Leaf action. I like Deku Leaf action :-)
better than IGNs review by far
Your voice is fun and relaxing, much like this game.
That's some intersting data you have there, thanks, i din't knew that one..
The only thing i ever really played and enjoyed for Wii Sports Resort was the island flying, and i've always wanted to explore the island like a 3D platformer like Mario 64 or galaxy, and after hearing the island was in pilotwings, i had to look. the jetpack looks like the next best thing.
I was just thinking about that same idea, with the whole platformer exploration aspect. I kinda wished Nintendo would do something like that. I enjoyed the island in Mario Kart 7, and I really like it's design.
looks like wii sports resort
you should replace ign
just bought it today, LOVE IT! :D
this game is awesome!! wish i had it.
i remember this rocket level in the 64 version where you had to go through a cave... not crashing into shit while collecting the balloons was so hard.... very rare to find a rewarding game like pilot wings! Really feel like you accomplished a feat of dexterity after completing it. I still suggest mastering a musical instrument instead, but you know... lol...
hmm nice game think i gonna buy it to.
thx for the good review!
The first time I played a Pilot Wings game was on the N64. That game holds a special place in my heart. I want to get a 3DS for the classic games being put out for it, as well as the new titles.
very informative, Thanks
I can't wait to enjoy this game along with my r4 3ds :D
Does anyone remember playing pilotwings on the SNES? Good times..... :)
Pilotwings Resort is a great game, recommended for 3DS owners along with Dead or Alive Dimensions, Legend of Zelda: ocarina of Time 3D and Ghost Recon Shadow Wars
After seeing that skydiving part, i will now buy this game
we need a pilotwings 4 switch N keep it with the Mii's and Wuhu Island
what setting do you put your camera on to get such a nice recording?
I finished the game! It's a shame that there's only one place to explore, though you wouldn't be able to explore everything in one seating. The environment looks good, especially how the sun reflects on the ocean. They should've added streetpass and spotpass features as well, my only bad comment in this game is that there is very little content.
You fly through rings like in Superman 64?! :-S
@wolfthing11 Well, it just depends on how the developer uses the 3D. The diagrams in Pilotwings Resort pop out at you.
What camera do you use? Its really nice and clear :D
Wuuhuu Island appeared in Wii Fit back in 2008. it was used as the course for the jogging exercise, but it wasnt named Wuhuu until Resort
Awesome!
I remember getting this game for like $20 at an office supplies store back in 2012, loved this game so much but I sadly lost it in 2013 :(
Man I loved this game. I got 3 star on all the missions.
Makes me excited for Star Fox!
@nathanlamb26 no, wuhu island loop and mountain loop are from wii sports resort's wuhu island, which is in this game as well
its a good game. i was surprised. i would prefer a better presentation. and no wuhu island and no Mii's. needs more personality, like the N64 and SNES one had. but its still a very fun game! great video CGR! and, i recently made a pilotwings snes review. if anyone wants to see it, please enter the channel and see the videogames playlist.
3DS hardware review? I don't remember you having a 3DS hardware review. Has anyone seen his hardware review?
i might be the only one who thought this but i think it would be cool if nintendo made a game called Mii Sports for the 3ds. it would have the sports from wii sports and wii sports resort plus the ability to play the missions from pilotwings resort. there would be a free roam option so you can see all of wuhu island anyway you want(car, bike, plane, boat, handgliding, jetpack). there could also be kart racing, handgliding race, jet race, and regular car racing. there can be local play and online.
I highly doubt people think "the 3D gameplay isn't as existing as it sounds", you just have your own eyes, the 3D is going to be different for EVERYONE, because we all have different eyes. I cant stop playing Gundam in full 3D.
Thinking about Pilot Wings 64 made me think of Blast Corps for some reason. That was an interesting game. I'm waiting until they start bringing out some more games (like some of the big title games they announced last year) before I consider getting a 3DS.
@Sarri71 The wii has something called Go Vacation where you explore an island and play different sports and games, still waiting to see something like that put on the 3DS...
i never hooked up to samurai warrior game before until the one for 3DS.. pls review that one, it's a very great game.
Can't believe this is the only sequel to Pilotwings 64.
***** Yeah. That's the kind of console exclusive that makes me seriously consider buying Nintendo systems.
I just bough this game to see the 3D effects on the 3DS. Little did I know I could have just played it at Best Buy but oh well its still a fun game =]
this is an absolute banger. the first game that i tested as a 10 yer old at walmart and i knew i needed to ask mom for a 3ds and bless her heart she got me one even for 250 price! HOT Damn
i lold at "Flying-Squirrel Suit". I feel nerdy that i got the reference...
omg he made a really good looking mii. it lookes EXACTLY like him!!!
Its a good game.. I loved the n64 pilotwings and this is a nice sequel. How long it lasts you and how deep it is depends how far much you want to achieve. Getting 3 stars on all challenges and unlocking all in free flight mode will take a reasonable amount of time.
all four players with either one copy each player or download play. it would make no difference. spotpass can give you new challenges and the ability to play against nintedo developers ( reggie, shigeru, satoru, etc.) streetpass can give you info on other people's records, their ghost data and you could see their miis while free roaming(you could also walk while free roaming). dlc could be free and it could offer new sports and missions. it sounds like a really cool idea to me.
I wasn't going to buy this game for my 3DS but SURPRISE! Someone just sent this to me as a mystery birthday gift. I really like it so far but I can see myself getting 3 stars in all the levels by the end of the weekend. This should have been included with the system.
BTW for those worried about eye strain, the 3D effect causes no problems for me whatsoever and works really well so those saying the 3DS is a pure gimmick can kiss my ass! :p
I can't wait for Pokemon 3d for the 3ds :D
@lctb51 You mean those time trial levels in Spyro where you had to fly through the arches? Yeah, kind of. =D
Your voice is deep and powerfu,l but at the same time friendly.
I love pilotwings. I've been playing the SNES version since I was a kid and still can't get the damn hang glider to work.
do a review on retro game challenge if u havnt yet def a gem for the DS
me too this is my favorite game in my 3ds (because this is the only game in my 3ds)
@Sarri71 Cool, enjoy your blocks
I'm gonna scream. I love Pilot Wings.
No skydiving ? I love the old pilot wings but the skydiving was one of my favorites!
Mark was a kamikaze at the end!
once the red eyed squirrel is on the screen i know it's gonna be good
@theachtungtree We'll see when they announce the games for it. I'm sure it's going to get interesting.
are there pictures of 8-bit mario hidden everywhere in there?
i love the 3d effect in pilot wings. i also have ssf4 and sim 3, its not like thoughs have bad 3d, cause they dont (maybe sim 3 a bit), but pilotwings is so smooth and natural. at times i think the 3d is off, and its not, so i turn it off and i see the difference.
@illustriouschin Son, This is the original flight simulator. (the snes version ofcourse)
@russfuckingallen They did, it's called Wii Sports Resort. It just lacks the hang gliding and jetpack challenges, that's all.
@CJP120 I haven't seen that game yet. I'll have to look into it. And yeah me too
@LBP2Fangirl
you just have to hit 'r' or the right arrow or something when your selecting your thingamajiggy. and yeah, i do sound like i know nothing about the 3ds
cool
I want that game yup
@mytotem11 No, you cannot. The game cards are designed in a way that prevents you from loading them into your regular DS handheld.
@MagFlare that is the greatest reply i've gotten so far
I like how he ends most of his reviews with death.
@tvwatcher21 Right now, the 3DS is all about show-casing the graphics more than the actual focus on what the name of the system represents. 3D. With only a small library of games out right now, and few of them really showing what the 3D in the 3DS is capable of, not many people are having huge hopes for the system. Plus, I've heard most games strain your eyes, thus basically ruining a good 3D experience. I do have high hopes of the system though, and will enjoy it when I buy it for myself.
in fact nintendo love using woohoo(if you wrote it like that)because look:
-Pilot Wing resort
-Wii Sport Resort
-WiiFit (maybe wiifit plus?)
-Mario Kart 3DS
@RyouuichiKun15 epic game quote haha
Does it have the classic opening music?
@tvwatcher21 Well, the 3DS does have a fair line-up of games (Can't wait for Snake Eater 3D) and it does show promise. But whether(?) or not they really are going to make full use of having 3D games is still a question.
That comment was so awesome I don't even know what to do
@RyouuichiKun15 NOW we're talking. You get a thumbs up and a "Most Improved" award, squire.
if someone could answer this that be great. so when i buy games, i want them to last me a long time. i want this game but i was just wondering if this is a game that i could pick up a few months after i got it, and still have a good time playing it?
@mspeter97 wuhu island is in wii fit plus also.
Space Witch telling me to put my hand in her box?
Sounds Legit!
No, Woohoo island made it first appearence in Wii Sports Resort, and i love how it is made, it had plenty of spots where you can check, lot's of mini games (in wii sports resort) and a variaty of fictional culture..
i love it, Wii Sports reesort was a super relaxing game and the best minigame to me was the flight mode.. wich is a reduced version of this game, so, i think i'm buying it...
kaww wuhu first appeared in wii fit
I have the old SNES game, it's great
has mark ever shared his qr code or whatever! I want to add his mii
what it seems they did, is they took the island from wii sports resort, added some of the stuff from the snes game, and ripped the music from the snes game.
I never played this one, but I still play the original.
lol..even tho i dont have a 3DS, i still watch the review 0.o
Can u also fly to wedge island?
The problem with 3D in games is the same issue as 3D in movies....when the movie is great and the 3D seamlessly blends in so you don't get a headache, and pretty much don't notice the 3D is there after a while, it's great, and a success for 3D. But too many movies/games take a only decent production and slap 3D on the top of it and figure that's good enough.
@WootsonTV it works perfectly? lol i can see the 3d effect with no eyestrains even after 4 hours straight of gameplay. If it won't work with u, than u maybe are one of those few that can't see 3d at all, that's all. Bad luck i think.
Sad that there doesn't appear to be a birdman in this one. Birdman was so fun in pilot wings 64 lol
They should've made this on the Wii as well. I'd buy it in a second only because I loved the old ones.
what is the name of the music that starts at 00:1 and ends at 00:4
Darude Sandstorm
With all the remaking Nintendo did for 3DS, it woulda been awesome for a pilotwings64 remake. But this is still great, just wish it had more content and variety to the game.
Love this game and it very hard to get perfect score on all the missions
I AM GETTING THE 3DS AND THE GAME!!!!
HERE AND NOW!!!!
@TheSupermariogabriel yes in the plane if you double tap R
Yeah!
