  • Hype or Hunt? Today we're testing the PowerBelt ELR projectile in ballistic gel at 100 yards.
    We’ll be shooting the PowerBelt ELR out of my CVA Accura LR V2. This muzzleloader may not be the latest and greatest, but it’s been a workhorse for me. For propellant in this test, I’m going to be testing 80 grains of Blackhorn 209 measured by weight.
    Before we get into the test, I want to mention that you shouldn’t use my tests as a substitute for your own testing and practice. Just because something works for me doesn’t mean it will for you. It’s our responsibility as hunters and outdoorsmen to be proficient with our equipment and take ethical shots.

    Speaking from experience with the 285gr elr. All I can really say about them is they get the job done and are very accurate. But if it were for the fact that a bought a large lot of them and that they are just stupid accurate, I would probably be switching to a solid copper expanding. Reason being, I took a doe opening day muzzleloader in Indiana, 130-140 lbs walking weight. Shot from the ground full frontal shot and hit her dead center. She made it 60 yards and pilled up. Good blood trail even though it wasn’t needed and the bullet went straight is through the heart and stopped in the stomach which was full of hard corn. Wonderful performance for anchoring a deer. But out of my paramount loaded with 100gr by weight of BH 209. 60 yards was way to close and way to high of velocity. The meat damage was amazing to the point I really don’t know how she made it even a step after the shot let alone 60 yards. The fragmentation and shear hydrostatic shock destroyed the heart and both lungs and blew out the rib cage on both side to the point that it actually destroyed both shoulders even though the bullet hit dead center frontal. So absolutely great bullet but be cautious and careful when butchering your deer and expect a good amount of meat damage.

    I don't like that one. Yes, you recovered a good amount of weight. Too many pieces IMHO.

    Could you redo this using 777 powder and a Remington 209 primer? Then do the same with Ffg black powder.

    • @minigpracing3068
      @minigpracing3068 24 дні тому

      Yes it would be very interesting to see what other powders can do, I bet 777 just needs a slightly larger charge to match the speed. And 777 is a little easier to find and buy. Not sure I would bother with FF or FFF black powder, I think you would need a significant increase in charge to hit the same speeds, and it's not real easy to find (at least around here).

      777 (or Pyrodex for that matter as I usually find them to be within 10 fps or each other in all my rifles) is going to lose about 30-50 fps with the same load by volume (at least in my knight revolution), FFG real black will lose another 70-90 fps from that.

    I love powerbelts. Easy and relatively cheap. They leave big holes and big blood trails. I use the 245 aero tip in my wolf. 100gr weighed of loose Pyrodex RS. Great on deer, lots of recoil in the little light weight Wolf.

    Not as fast as I would have thought from that powder. If you ever want to check either weight of the Lee REAL or a TC Maxiball in 50cal, please let me know (I have one REAL and a TC in 45 too but none have been cast yet). I have a bunch cast and sitting waiting for me to get back to shooting them (gladly donate to the channel). I have some powder coated too, I size these down to .510 for use in one of my airguns. Yes, an airgun shooting 50 cal up to about 550 grains of hurt. There are 3 or 4 different model/brands in this size, but you can go up to 72 cal if you really want some down range energy (above 1300 foot pounds at the muzzle).

      Very kind of you! I’m really slow right now and don’t want to take donations until I get through my backlog here this fall.
      I’m fascinated with the big air guns, a local friend had one that just blew my mind. I had no idea they were doing this stuff. Can you shoot a conical too, or is it roundball?

      @@ILoveMuzzleloading The 357 is a Benjamin Bulldog (original) that I've modded up to about 200 footpounds. I cast a few different things for it, but its favorite is a Lee 356-125-2r which is normally used for 9mm firearm ammo. The 510 is an Umarex Hammer, I have one Lee mold for a 50-70 firearm that gets sized down, and two other firearm style that I had custom made from Accurate Molds. Still working on the Hammer, haven't put enough through it to have it in proper order. But I bought my Hawken in 50 because I knew I could size the Lee REAL down to fit the Hammer for a common ammo size. The only drawback of the Hammer is 3 shots per fill, a fill takes around 10 minutes with my compressor, I spend a lot of time at the club cleaning up spent brass that people leave around (the club recycles it to help with projects). The Hammer also kicks nearly as hard as the Hawken so don't be fooled if someone lets you try it, look for some videos and see how many people get scope bite.

    Hey ethan i just acquired a traditions Hawken woodsman (.50 caliber) (1/48 twist)
    i have a question im planning on using powder belt aerolite bullets 250 grains
    bullets and 80 grains of hodgdon 2F ffg powder is 80 grains a good charge
    for that weight of projectile i expect most of my shots will be 55 yards or less but may on occasion stretch out to around 100 to 110 yards lastly no pathes with aerolite they have the plastic gas seal on them lastly i have an unboxing video on my channel its my most recent upload it that will aid you in answering my question

    • @jameshagerman7681
      @jameshagerman7681 21 день тому +1

      80 grains of 777 or Pyrodex behind the 250 grain Aerolite is a fine deer load at any range where you can use the iron sights of your hawken. Light recoiling and plenty of terminal performance. The aeorlites are a soft bullet and most of the time when people have problems with them its because they pushed them too hard.
