Gotta love that quick removal method that HD has went to. When I moved my indicator lights back, there was much weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth... Not from me, but from my neighbors who had to listen to my trials and tribulations, punctuated with colorful language, from snapping off rusted hardware inside the fender struts. If only everyone loved Anti-Seize as much as I do, the world would be a better place, and my neighbors could live their lives unaware of my trials and tribulations induced by Father Time and rusty steel and galled aluminium... Great content as always, D&P :)
You said that right! This bike is barely 4yrs old and already the bolts under the rear were starting to corrode in place... not to mention on all Harleys, even to this day, the inevitable paint flaking off the fenders within a matter of 3yrs! It seems the factory hasn't heard of primer or stone chip paint so far yet, but it's a Harley and rust is all part of the experience!! (or so we're told...)... enjoy your week! D&Px
Anti-Seize for the win. What's more, I used plenty of it on my last project and through prodigious use of vinyl gloves, Windex and loads of paper towel I managed NOT to end up looking like the Silver Surfer.
@@JDnBeastlet It sure doesn't like to come off skin!
Tidy install & some nice looking bags. Somewhere for the flask of tea. Well done both of you 👏🏻
Thanks mate👍 These are big enough for some Hobnobs too.!
Nice job mate. Very satisfying install
Thanks 👍
Bruv. I forgot how peaceful and therapeutic some of your vids are. I've Been in a bike accident, on valentines day before work. I'm still dealing with that and I've just had surgery on my jaw last week, bruv I'm stressed. I cant eat cake or drink hot tea, it's been milkshake and soup for 5 days now. I'm surprised you can't hear my poor old tummy grumbling from where you are. Thanks for a bit of relief bruv. Stay safe and well both of you.
Oh my goodness, why didn't you let us know, it's horrible to think you've been suffering and we didn't know... it sounds like you had a bit of a nasty spill if it involved a facial injury, we really hope you're on the mend now...
I know it's not important in comparision to your injuries, but I imagine the bike was damaged as well, so do let us know if there's anything I can do to help in any way, keep us posted privately on the messenger, or just a regular email if you like... Take care ol' buddy, look forward to hearing from you, D&Px
@@Moonfleet41 cheers buddy.
So sorry to hear of your accident - good vibes and get will wishes from Ottawa, Canada
@@JDnBeastlet thankyou bruvva
Like a surgeon love it.
Hi Del & Penny, hope all is well. Excellent install mate, looks great. You have to give it to Harley with all the kits and bits, it's all top shelve. Penny and you enjoy the last part of your week and it's bloody raining here. Take care, Cheers
You're dead right mate, you can't knock the quality of Harley parts, at least up to the standard of the rest of the bike, which is the way it should be! Enjoy the rest of your rainy week (raining here too!), stay safe, D&Px
Brilliant Del. Great to see a Harley in the shop again.
Thanks 👍
Probably the easiest saddlebag quick dis-connect system that I've ever seen!
It certialy is Harold, genuine Harley product, one handed disconnect, and a handle on each makes tgem into suit cases for the walk to the hotel..lol!
Awesome video brother ! Great tutorial, love how those saddles bags attach to the bike ; quick and easy ! Keep up the good work brother, 🎉 stay safe guys cheers from New York !!!!🍺🍺🍺
The instructions one gets with any HD item are really good, people always moan about the cost of genuine HD parts but they're always top quality, the bike looks great with the saddlebags, nice addition 👍👍👍
Totally agree Geoff, every set of instructions with these parts is like an excerpt from the manual, written and explained in exactly the same way, plus of course the information is correct obviously... Hope you're well, roll on summer aye! D&Px
@Moonfleet41 fed up of all the rain, but it'll change no doubt-- hi to PP 👍👍x
Bike looks great with them on. Nice. 😍🤘
Thanks!
HD creates a problem and then gladly sells you a kit to solve it. 😄 Admittedly it makes for a neat install once you pay the price of admission. Now you can carry your sandwiches to school. LOL Must really bug the other kids who have to get to school on a crummy bus. Thanks and cheers Del and Penny. ❤👍👍
Sure thing Rick, I think as Harley are so focused on the accessory market, it's almost become a second income for them for sure... but then as so many of ours want to personalise our bikes, it seems like a good working partnership! Have a great week, take care, D&Px
very nice job. looks great
Thank you very much!
So much easier than when I did my Softail, nice looking saddle bags too
Top notch Del! Nice bit of kit too. Great job. Appreciated.
Thanks Shaun 👍, glad you approve, it's great to have some storage space for longer rides.
nice work again both
Thank you so much 😀
Therapeutic session, great to watch. Successful day. Still love the music after all those years. Happy days, Günter/Nürnberg
Hi, maybe I missed a bit, but you said about checking the extensions for length once you had it on the bike and seeing if they needed adjusting but said nothing about that it just went straight to you fitting the assembly back on the bike ?
Yes indeed, wasn't necessary in the end, you can tell immediatey how much shorter they were that they needed at least 4" extra each, which if you think about it, is the exact length of the extender plate, so just went ahead and did that and it went perfectly.
Nice set of saddle bags and always Del enjoyed the install
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video Del. The saddle bags look spot on. “A narcissistic person will have an overinflated ego, need copious amounts of attention, and do not have empathy for anyone in their lives”.
Totally agree mate, you have no idea how true that is! Glad you enjoyed the video mate, thanks for all your support, D&Px
I’ve done lots of modifications adding bags on older bike using different brackets, most were rack with t-bags. I wished installation was simpler like you did. I wouldn’t mind bags like you installed on my 1986 Honda 1100 shadow. Those are nice looking bags! Easy off and easy on. Pretty kwel!!
Sure thing, these are pretty expensive by comparision to anything aftermarket and I did deliberate over buying some, until I spotted this set new secondhand from someone who'd never fitted them and then had to sell his bike... the justification in the price is clear when you see the quality and ease of use!
I'm constantly amazed at some of the fasteners on this style of bike. The bolts that hold those indicators on seem like the same size as the engine fasteners on my bikes!
Sure thing mate, never let it be said that Harleys aren't well built!
Good job pal, great information all round
Thanks 👍, glad you enjoyed it!
Fantástico, ficou perfect 👍
Hi what make are the soldered crimps that you use?
Here you go Dave. www.spanner-monkey.co.uk/heat-shrink-butt-connector-with-crimp-and-solder-red-pack-of-25-114889?search=HSSB25R&description=true
Thanks for the reply I have tried various makes off Amazon with mixed results, will give these ago.
Hi Penny and Del - great video! A simple project but no less entertaining for that. I guess you didn't need to trim the wire extensions to length after all? As for me, recovering from a bloody awful stomach bug and a poor old Bandit that only wants to run on three cylinders. Looks like the carbs will have to come out - more on that later.
Take care, dear friends. Be well and ride safe!
Sorry to hear you're not feeling too well mate, and the bike too.. typical carb engine, if you leave them sat for too long, they start gping to sleep and need attention to just get back to normal.. hope you're both better soon.. take care and have a great weekend aye. and thank you as always for your kind support.
wow
Brilliant, this is such a useful video Del as Im also a soft tail owner. Thank you👍
Glad it was helpful mate!
Another great video Del, but the more I watch you working with Harley Davidsons, the more I appreciate my Honda and Kawasaki.
Best wishes to you both from NZ, ride safe.
Thanks for watching mate, have a great week, ride safe!
Nice
👌👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
What's the thinking behind the two stage torque procedure - part tighten, remove, loctite and then torque to full setting?
Stated in the manual, same as torquing down a cylinder head, torque, release, then re-torque... it's generally for the purpose of bedding and seating components in place firmly so they're fully engaged before then torquing the bolts up a final time...
@@Moonfleet41 Yes, makes sense on cylinder heads etc just seemed a bit odd on the particular part that Del was fitting. If that's what the manufacturer recommends then so be it. Thanks for replying.
Nice video! I read somewhere that you used to be in the Army Del, where abouts was you based?
Harley has really gotten good at developing quick-on and quick-release parts! And, even if you really don't like Harley motorcycles, a leisurely walk around a HD dealership lets you see the quality of the things they build. That said, it's odd that you still need a screw driver to remove the seat.
Good point John, a huge screw that a theif can remove with a coin... clever aye !
Brilliant extentions for the Harley, looked a very easy task for you, great video, hello to you both
Yes it was a straightforward installation, glad you enjoyed the video!
Yeah awesome look Del.
I was quite surprised to discover that the fj12 is quite an easy bike to work on compared to others. Good really because it wasn't the bun fight that I had anticipated when getting the carbs out today.
Keep flooding and therefore lack of power and petrol on the deck.
Nice to see that tape in use again showing me how to use it. As recommended by you, I now have some. Aye
All the very best Del and Penny x
Yes indeed Marc, the FJ was a gloriously simple bike and easy to live with, plus a real mile muncher too! Take care and have a fabulous week, D&Px
As my once rippled body has reached the age where both sets of cheeks now class as 'baggers', I've decided I don't DO 'trendy' anymore . . . but those do suit that bike perfectly. Well done all : )xx
Sure thing buddy, they're definitely shaped to fit the bike, which is more than can be said for every other bag I looked at!!
Stylish luggage on a sexy French moped? 'La Baguette'! - (a bread & butter joke : )
:-) delboy must hate the next guy who is fussing with wiring leaving those dog ears on those zip ties. >:) just givin you a hard time man. take it easy! good solid video
Snipped them all off naturally, just kept the editing brief as I'm sure it was more than enough to get the message across!! Good to hear from you.
Excellent video as usual. Thank you. Love how modular these bikes are. I am delighted with my 114S Street Bob. Those expandable cases are intriguing. Do you have a part number for them?
Thank you... don't have a part number to hand, but they're called Overwatch bags.
Thank you 👍@@Moonfleet41
I have had bags on my last 6 bikes and would not buy a bike without bags now.
FIlmedddddd in PENNYVISION!!!.... noice to see ya back in the garage Miss Pitstop!! hope your diddddddling well!
That is seriously #TRICK and #ALLY
i'm liking the little steel plate, that goes on as a backing.
Why thank you Sir, glad you approve, yes, been away for a while, recovered now and back to work! Thank for your kind words, PPx
Hi Del, how do you calibrate your torque wrenches? Would be also interesting to hear how much do you see differences when doing the calibrations in daily bases
They do sit well. I just removed the panniers and scaffold from my bm. ( That's bm not bum!)😅
Then my car broke, so I'm now using the bike daily.Would have been better with the luggage! On the plus side my car's broke and im using the bike daily!! lol.. 👍❤️✌️
At our age bruv, we could all use a little scaffolding for our bum, don't ya think! (and the back, and the knees... and just about everything else lol)... ride safe out there, take care of yourself, D&Pxx
@@Moonfleet41 😅👍
Perfect. You would have thought Harley would have put a connector on one end of that wire so you would not have to strip both ends.
That would have been nice aye !
Great vid, you mentioned a workshop manual at the end, where do you recommend getting them from as trying to find one for my 2019 sportster 48 and can’t find a printed version anywhere
Have you not tried the dealer mate? All H-D genuine manuals are available from any dealership, they probably won't keep them in stock, but usually can get you one in a few days... best manual for a Harley full stop!
Brilliant - as always 👌
Thank you so much 😀
Nice one Del 👍
Looks well smart with the luggage and indicator relocation 👍
Keep up the brilliant work Del 'n' Pen 👍
PS. What did yuz have on your butties (to be read with a Scouse accent) 😁😉👍
Thanks Paul 👍... and it was 'corned beef and tomata' (with salad cream of course!) (to be read in a London accent lol), D&Px
Nice little install mate, but I reckon you should have put some soft tail heritage bags on. All them studs and tassels would have looked proper butch 😂
Dammit, missed a trick there... btu there's still time to fit some retro fit tassels for that Friday night chic!!
🤣🤣🤣
sarnies and your ickle Fredo the Frog chocky bar.. lol
.. and don't forget a Curly Wurly!
Hi Delboy, was wondering why you removed those bolts and put them back in again. Beautiful job and I love the looks of those bags as they look great on your bike. Thanks and have a great day. Frank from Florida.
Hi Frank, great to hear from you... I guess you must have skipped the last part of the video, I knew that someone would pick up on the double re-torque of the critical bolts, so I explained it in the outro at the end... link here 14:10
Thanks Delboy, I did see the last part of the video. It's my fault I should have explained it better. I should have said that I didn't understand it until you explained it at the end. I apologize. I always enjoy and watch your videos from start to finish and they are always 👍.
I've been watching you videos for some time now. How do you decide which tool to use. E.g allen key, T allen or bit with a socket.
LOL Take my sandwiches to school.... Awesome....
What would have made it perfect would have been if you put some sandwiches in the bags before you backed it out.... LOL
I was gonna mate, but got hungry and ate them at lunchtime lol ...
@@Moonfleet41 HAHAHAHAHHAHA
Fender ?………..ah mate 😢
Ah, in my defence, you may remember I did say mudguard in the intro, so as you can see, I am multi-lingual lol
Maybe the dinosaurs at HD could put the indicators in the right place to start with
If you dont have bags, the indicators are already in the right place. They cant create a bike that caters for every use, its not a transformer.
As always. Harley con you out of more money. Everything. Even batteries are triple the price. If they sell luggage they should make it fit from the get go, or design their bikes to stop this nonsense. Overrated & overpriced. Not for me.
😂😂😂
HD = Hundred dollars 😂, for even the smallest item. But even so, i love my sportster. Doesn’t handle, but maintenance is a doddle.
Bun fight!
