I just rode my 2023 Obese Robert about 350 miles in two days and it was phenomenal. For long trips I throw on a 19” windshield, some Thrashin supply saddle bags, and a waterproof duffel. About to put on some 3” risers to add some comfort. The bike is light and keeps up with Street and Road Glides all day long. After a long trip I strip it back down to its street brawler looks for the daily commute and local rides.
Last July found a bottle of Powers Irish whiskey for my cousin's 89 year old Irish neighbor. I was in the East Bay Area, my cousin was in the suburbs of Vancouver, BC. Ergonomically the only changes was 3 inches of rise in the bars, motobars, Memphis shades fairing with their lowest screen (the others cause my head to bob around too much) and a Mustang seat. Left at 12:30 on the Friday got there 6:30pm (920 miles) the Saturday. It was an AWESOME ride. I am so happy with my Fatbob. I have other bikes but it's the one I always seem to swing a leg over. Can't recommend it highly enough (or I-5 in the Northern end of California with its lovely sweepers). Great fun. I so want to do it again
The most under appreciated bike from Harley. The off roading capabilities of this cruiser bike is unmatched from any other cruisers in the market. It has enough power and torque that rivals a dirt bike and adventure bike and also the fact that the bike geometry is perfect for trail riding has not been explored as much as it deserves to. Why I mentioned this is because in the Philippines that Fatbob is actually an off-roading cruiser choice of some motorcycle clubs here in my country where they ride uphill and through mountain terrain with the rest of adventure bikers and the Fatbob keeps pace is unmatched.
With basically no motorcycle riding experience (except for owning a Yamaha Xmax Scooter) I rented this beast last year in California and did 2.600 miles in two weeks. Took me through the hurricane when it lightly hit Yellowstone, to Vegas the Grand Canyon and many more incredibly beautiful places. Had the best time and we grew into one during that trip. The power of the engine was such a visceral experience. Yes, sometimes a windshield would have been nice and if my buddy didn't have panniers on his Harley, it would have been a real problem. After that trip I had to get a real motorcycle but the Fat Bob wasn't ment for my commute trough city traffic. I finally landed on a Moto Guzzi V7 850 Special - of all the bikes I tested, the sound and rumble reminded me of the Fat Bob most. Very happy with my purchase so far. Ride on!

I ride a new Road Glide. However, the Fat Bob has arguably the nicest detailing and materials in the lineup. I love the styling because it is creative. As a bike for riding, if you like a "raw" experience it's hard to beat. In general I agree with your points.

I like where you landed with the Sport Glide. Spot on. Just completed 1400klms over 2 days and the Sport Glide delivered me to destination feeling great. A good all rounder. The Obese Robert just doesn’t offer the goods for the asking price.
For me the Sport glide is a lovely looking bike, but I want more lean angle, more power, more braking efficiency and better suspension, oh the Fat Bob delivers, and it’s Mad Max styling hits the spot, 2nd hand nearly new for £14 hits the spot for me. I have a moto Guzzi V100 and an Indian FTR1200 carbon, but I also love the less is more Harley’s on that open road dream.
I was fortunate to be able to afford paying 2023 H-D pricing for a 670 lb bike, with no rider aids, 114 inch engine with a 110 mph limiter, and a small gas tank. And I absolutely love it! Added Vance and Hines slip-ons for even more smiles.
I love the look of this bike. I didn’t get a chance to test ride this bike as I was not confident enough to ask. One of my friends has the same and it has great road presence and he loves it.
I enjoy watching your videos, Freddie. They are very entertaining. You do a fantastic job of viewing a motorcycle. I really get a feel for the bike. I wanted to pass on my experience. I have been riding motorcycles now for 56 years. I would be very cautious of riding between cars. I have seen people open up their doors when they are not feeling well to bring up their cookies. Be safe.
Once I got rid of the original tires and saddle this bike became an awesome motorcycle for everyday use even for long runs. I also added a cruise control and a Sharknado fairing.
Excellent review, Freddie. I love your enthusiasm. H-D's best bike of recent times. Great dash, great bars. I used to feel the same thing about the engine on my 1670cc MT-01. Great-looking jacket. Nick
It’s how I feel about my Chief bobber- I think about the engine and the sound- when I’m on it, I feel like I’m straddling a B-52, it takes me back in time but yet it’s modern- these bikes are rolling art and feeling- the price, expensive yes. But, it’s not for everyone- they sneak their way into your life and then you can’t picture how it was before- beautiful Harley, by the way the country side your riding in looks fantastic- I ride in the mountains of Southern California
I’ve owned 3 Harley’s over 15 years. Ready for something new and don’t know if I will go for another Harley! I took a demonstrator Fat Bob out for a day in the mountains in the UAE last January - the fat tyres make the bike handle really badly. I much prefer the Road King.
I ridden a few late model Fat Bobs and they are the best handling motorcycle in the HD range. Great lean angle and the 114ci is smooth with tons of torque. Two negatives are the all-terrain tyres are horrible and they should have gone for twin Led headlights like the Rocket which would have been similar to previous models.
Yeah, the price. Eye wateringly expensive here in NZ, but as you say, the resale hasn’t kept as high as others. But then like the vrod, nightrod, fatbob actually make more sense to buy second hand. But really, as you also say, the sportglide is just more practical. So if I only had one bike, it would be the sportglide. If I won the lottery, I’d have the fatbob too 8) right alongside my Indian scout 101 in the imaginary garage.
For a great Harley that still looks good, take a look at the mid 90s Street Bob. Now, that’s much more like stripped back bobber. The Dyna range were all great bikes. I have owned 2 of them and I have no idea why HD stopped the range.
i feel the same about my 2022 Fatboy, feels amazing to ride, yeah you can buy cheaper bikes.. why would you!! If you want to love your Fatbob even more, get a full flow exhaust system, a cam upgrade and a high flow air filter and tune it.. you'll never get the smile off your face!!
Oddly, the Sport Glide is discontinued in the USA as well. It just didn’t sell over there for some reason. Let’s hope they both continue here and they’re not just selling off stock.
I have Fatbob 2018 and I love this bike. There is street bob, fat boy etc etc.... better bikes and more but If you know what its mean have some really special bike you dont care... you just ride and smile like crazy :) I tested before Indian chief. It was really good but this bike make me smile after first 2 minutes and I cannot say why.... I both it because of this and love every minute or riding, working on them and after several years Im still stunned by look.
I have ridden a Harley a few times. I am a fan but have always ridden large (fast) Hondas. Harley in the US is NOT known for its quality although I agree that has changed. I now ride a Bonnie 1200. . .I DO wish it sounded a bit more like a Harley, but I do love its sound, it is lighter, more comfortable, and a lot cheaper. . .
Both bikes are good but the rocket is just a show piece and intractable. Want the best of bike bikes? Try the Honda Goldwing, honestly it is not an old man's bike. Ride one and you won't go back.. Keep up the good videos Fred
Owned the sport glide and loved it. Wish it had dual front discs like the Fat Bob. Road a modified 117 Fat Bob for a week Great bike In USA both bikes discontinued. What is Harley thinking ? Now I have to look at the Indian Scout 101 as a non bagger to get that authentic cruiser feel
A fantastic video Freddie... It's all about the big smile a Harley will put on your face every time you go out for a ride which most riders will never understand. Yes, I've owned many other bikes from Triumph, Royal Enfield and the Japanese big 3 but they can never put the smile on my face as my Harley's. As a matter of fact, I still have all 4 of my Harley's dated all the way back to the EVO's and recently with the M8 motor and the newest platform the Sportster S and Nightster which are a blast just by themselves. But if you like the traditional potato sound then the M8 is the way to go... my EVO just turned 144K and it still runs like a top.
Great video Freddie. I took one out for a test ride and kinda liked it, but I'd just stepped off my Multistrada on the journey to the garage - and losing pretty much all of the luxuries of the multi was too much of a juxtaposition. I've since bought a Sportster Forty Eight and get the same feeling you do about Obese Robert. The engine, the torque, the sound, the way it makes you feel. No other motorcycle brand does it as well as Harley.
Hi man! Peace from Ireland)! So, i have this piece of Art for years already, So, first change pipes to VH, and Air filter. Tyres, original is good, but)... And ye, is Fast, 168 km easy. Safe Ride, Brothers!!!
Plain and simple. It's got a face only a mother could love. Would be better suited with mid foot controls over the forward position. While the "bobbed" rear fender may look good it's trash for group riding as many harley riders do. It spits gravel straight back into the rider behind rather than down. Personally not a fan of the fat front tire, just added rotational mass.
American here, have a '17 Dyna Fat Bob, and to be honest it (and the Softail version) seem to be far more popular in Europe then they have been in the US since it's inception; it's a bike that doesn't seem to have a place in HD's line up, especially with the Low Rider S taking the performance mantle... I'm surprised it has taken them this long to cancel it.... having said that, living 5 miles up a dead end dirt road, coming from a dual sport/adv bike background here in Vermont, I love mine. Then again, I'm not a "Harley" guy. Thanks for the video.
was gonna say something similar to this. the older dyna model seemed to have a good amount of fans. but the softail version, not really at all here in the u.s. you just NEVER see it.
Low Rider S is only "better" peformance wise by having a skinnier front tire. Both have the same exact same frame, engine, USD forks, brakes and such. The Fat Bob has adjustable rear suspension that the Low Rider S does not have.
A Harley that I'd actually like to own, what's happening to me?! Love the looks of that bike. Another great vlogs F&M. Cornwall looks absolutely stunning when the sun comes out to play😎👍
I test rode one of these a week or so ago. My only complaint, which is easily remedied, is the super quiet exhaust. I loved everything about it. Then I got back on my paid off, well modified 2021 Sportster Forty-Eight… Full Stage One, Legend Revo rear shocks, weighing in at about 550 pounds. I really wanted to want the Fat Bob 114 enough to trade my Forty-Eight for it, but I just couldn’t do it… All that said, Harley screwed up badly discontinuing this bike in the US. IMO, it’s an awesome bike!
I have loved the Fat Bob since the inception, they continued to make it better. The only thing I might like more is better gauges, but I love this bike.
You make a good point Freddie about how what I call forced modern looks age badly and can even fail when new in my opinion. Take the humble MG Metro from the early 80's. It sold very well with its traditional badging, honouring the integrity of the MG brand. The simple octagon badge on the grill and sides worked. During the late 80's they decided to 'pop art' the badging, with half octagon MG badges printed seemingly at random across the sides of the car. The integrity of the brand was lost and the MG brand was dropped from the Metro range. Royal Enfield have done the same thing with the Hunter 350, using 'pop art' with their Royal Enfield name on the bike's tank. A bad move in my opinion but at least it is only with the one model but it is 'talking down' to your buyer. Will these companies ever learn...
Very well done Freddie. Spot on my friend and the Cornish setting is perfect for such a piece of American Heavy Metal. That Sport Glide beats all for me! Thanks for such great morning entertainment👍✅
The Sport Glide was discontinued in US in 2019 and only available in Europe, New Zealand, Australia and Asia from 2020. The only competition the Fat Bob has in the US is from Harley them self with the awesome, outstanding Lowrider ST.
You said the Street Bob was £2000 less, but looking on the website now, the Fat Bob 114 is £4000 more than the Steet Bob 114. That's pretty significant. I have a Fat Bob, but bought it before the price hike, and second hand. I definitely couldn't justify it at it's new price point 😄
I have a fat bob and I love my bike the only other bike soft tail I would put over this bike is the low rider s. That bike is incredible in terms of handling and distant riding
Had a few Harleys. Dreadful after sales, expensive and the brakes we’ll say no more. I now have a beautiful Yamaha Raider and a Triumph Thunderbird Storm and boy is that a bike. Just fantastic.
This version of the Fat Bob was one of the initial draws that made me love motorcycles. I now have my licence and my first bike. I hope they don't hold their price as much as the others because I will 100% own one in the next couple of years and the cheaper the better for me 😂.
I love the sound as it starts up. The price tag is quite eye watering. As a newbie rider, I think the weight would worry me a bit. But overall, I do quite like the look of it. Good review, many thanks.
I'll tellya why: There's no passenger pillion to speak of, the headlight looks like Bender's eye. it weighs almost 700lbs, and only has 93 hp for a bike with a 1900cc displacement. The front tyre is yooge! I've heard it described as "the bike with two back tyres". At $17,000us it's not really priced to sell, especially with so much competition out there. It's definitely a niche bike for one-up riding.
I have a 2015 Dyna Fat Bob and love it. The M8 version has a great engine, but the styling leaves a lot to be desired, the bronze pipe cover looks out of place and the 2024 model has a tank that's way too small - dropping a gallon somewhere along the way, especially considering the engine displacement is getting bigger.
A great description of the Harley Fat Bob. That engine must be quite high compression, as the starter seems to take quite a bit of strain before the engine comes to life. I would guess the choice of bike obviously comes down to what the end user expects and what they are going to use it for.
had a 2017 fatbob and from time to time regret getting rid of it. i remember when i seen the 2018 i thought they looked a good bit better!!!! went the way of a heritage but miss that fat bob here and there
I enjoyed your description of the emotional appeal of a bike such as the Fat Bob. I sold my 2021 Heritage Softail (With the 107 inch Milwaukee Eight motor) which I'd owned for a couple of years because I'd simply done what I wanted to with it. Every ride is an occasion on a bike such as that but I figured that I could get the same visceral appeal and sensation from other, less expensive machines. Plus I don't like the fact that H-D seems to be spiralling downwards into becoming a boutique brand with a severely limited appeal.
The 1979 FXE-F Fatbob was so called because of the fat dual tanks and bobbed rear fender. The front wheel was a standard skinny one and the bobbed rear was what today is considered a fill fender. Oh and the most modern forward thinking model would be the Low Rider ST.
@@stuartstogdill2406 talking about the classic air cooled cruiser models, otherwise tes the Pan America is the most modern model. As for the CVO, there just tarted up turner's, HD's been doing them for years. Whereas as the St and to a lesser extent the S Model Tourers introduce power and suspension to the mix.
@@bearwolffish I never get the 'a bike should be ridden all weathers, all the year round', as in my mind it is miserable riding in the wind, rain and cold, so why do it. Yes, a bike worth £19k doing limited millage might seem excessive but whether you do 2k a year or 10k, you have shelled out that money regardless, so what does it matter about how many miles you do.
@@Steve-s8k Some of the best riding I've done has been at 6 degrees in January. Something to be said about beautiful mornings, heated gear and no sweating your balls off in summer covered in flies! Rain however can jog on.
In the US, during the COVID related bike shortage, when the dealerships couldn’t get any bikes and the floor was mostly empty, you could still find Fat Bobs. No problem. Every dealer still had a few. 😂
I too day dream of my twin cam harley engine. Just pulling the throttle and feeling the vibration smooth out and the exhaust sound echo. Don't think I have felt that with other bikes.
First I did not like the appearance of this model at all. Now it is growing on me and getting more and more interesting. Being quite short I do sometimes have problems with forward controls though ... 👍🙂
I talked with a dealer the other day. Asked about the Fat Bob. He claims that Harley sees the FB and the Sportster S as being too similar. They axed the FB, the one with lineage and a decent following for the new kid in town. Very interesting.
That's so true. I had lots of different bikes including Japanese and bmws at 40 got my first one....still like the others but there is a special feeling to ride one
Great series on the Fat Bob, I agree it won't age well, nor will the Sportster S. I took the Fat Bob for a test ride, loved it, but I needed to give it a more retro feel, so I specified short shot exhausts and a number plate relocation. The price was very tempting and the part exchange offer on my air cooled Sportster was good, but my wife said it will never be a classic Harley in the way that a Sportster is. So I kept the Sportster

I like where you landed with the Sport Glide. Spot on. Just completed 1400klms over 2 days and the Sport Glide delivered me to destination feeling great. A good all rounder. The Obese Robert just doesn’t offer the goods for the asking price.
Completely false. The Sport Glide isn't even remotely comparable to the Fat Bob. It's heavier, only one front brake, non-adjustable rear suspension...
Nick
A lot of negativity in these comments sheesh. I, for one, am glad you enjoyed your time with the Fat Bob. Great video, Fred.
Couldn't agree with you more. I wish folks would remember the famous "Bambi" line: "If you can't say nothin nice, don't say nothin at all". Cheers
With respect Freddie....that is not a 2 into 1 exhaust.
2 into 1 into 2
Never let fact get in the way of a UA-cam video!
If you remove the heat shields, it's two into two...
Goes quite nicely with the three point six point turn.
2 into 2
I’ve owned 3 Harley’s over 15 years. Ready for something new and don’t know if I will go for another Harley! I took a demonstrator Fat Bob out for a day in the mountains in the UAE last January - the fat tyres make the bike handle really badly. I much prefer the Road King.
The bike doesn't handle badly at all. It defiantly handles better than my old road king lol
First I wanted it, now I NEED IT. Very well done review.
The production value of this video is outstanding. Great job.
i feel the same about my 2022 Fatboy, feels amazing to ride, yeah you can buy cheaper bikes.. why would you!!
I don't understand that either. Hopefully the Low Rider ST will sell.
I have never heard a reviewer speak so enthusiastically and lovingly about a motorcycle. The Fat Bob has stolen your heart, my friend.
The HD will be forgotten about next week when he’s astride a Norton!
I love your style of doing videos. Subscribed, my dude.
The Goldwing is one of the worst bikes made.
I own a FB 2008. I am in love with it. I will look for a new Fat Bob once she's passed.
You are the man Freddie. Come ride in the Surrey Hills!
Glorious area!
I love the Surrey Hills, I’ll definitely head over very soon!🤜🏼🤛🏼
@@FreddieDobbs Guildford DGR May 19th sounds like the perfect time 🤜🤛
A Harley that I'd actually like to own, what's happening to me?!
I really wanted to want the Fat Bob 114 enough to trade my Forty-Eight for it, but I just couldn’t do it…
All that said, Harley screwed up badly discontinuing this bike in the US. IMO, it’s an awesome bike!
Best motorcycle reviews on the internet! 👍🏻
I have loved the Fat Bob since the inception, they continued to make it better. The only thing I might like more is better gauges, but I love this bike.
It’s the Harley Davidson Fred Dobbs Superlative edition! The comparison and summary at the end of the video was really good.
♥ my Triumph Rocket III ! Best bike I have owned in 41 years of riding !
You should try the Street Bob next. you will love how fun and nimble it is. Also a very good classic looking bike.
Great analogy comparing the bodybuilder running the 100 meter dash.
Freddie you need to get your hands on the Heritage Classic 114. Literally the best Harley Davidson made.
I have a fat bob and I love my bike the only other bike soft tail I would put over this bike is the low rider s. That bike is incredible in terms of handling and distant riding
Cracking episode thanks Feddie and Monika
too right mate!
Had a few Harleys. Dreadful after sales, expensive and the brakes we’ll say no more. I now have a beautiful Yamaha Raider and a Triumph Thunderbird Storm and boy is that a bike. Just fantastic.
You’re laughable, go ride your kiddie bikes and leave the real riding to men.
I enjoyed your enthusiastic review, clearly you enjoyed riding the bike. Riding it made you happy. 😄
Great job, Monica!
Good comparisons mate. I haven't ridden the Fat Bob, but I do love my Sport Glide.
Proper British anti American bias. But…..his review is sound. Well done Sir. All the best to you.
What a brilliant video....the FB is indeed a beast, and has a place of it's own!
It wouldn’t be out of place on a farm ! 😫
Such a wonderful articulate description of a wonderful bike ! 👍
An outstanding video- you two just get better and better! A shame you’re not still in Ipswich- I have another little bike you could try!
The 1979 FXE-F Fatbob was so called because of the fat dual tanks and bobbed rear fender. The front wheel was a standard skinny one and the bobbed rear was what today is considered a fill fender. Oh and the most modern forward thinking model would be the Low Rider ST.
Just no... Most modern Harley are the current CVO models for cruisers and the truly incredebly modern version of a Harley is the Pan America.
£19k plus interest over three years you’re looking at close to £25k for something you’re only going to use a couple months a year.
If not willing to ride through the winter in this country, should you really have a bike?
Price is still excessive even for daily use.
@@bearwolffishpersonal preference, I agree I wouldn’t want to ride much more than 6 months of the year with our shitty weather in the uk
I like Harleys!
I watch for the bikes, and for Freddie's presentation skills. Plus, filming in Kernow made this one a "proper job."
Fat Bob now a collector find... If You own one keep it! Very popular & high demand bike in Europe & Asia...
It’s something about riding a Harley that just doesn’t transfer until you drive them.
Lol the Sportster S is selling amazing.
