Comic relief? If we're suppose to be laughing at her, then Spielberg did a horrible job in that part. Willie is just straight up unbearable that every time she opens her mouth I keep screaming, "SHUT UP, SHUT UP, SHUT THE F**K UP!".
Looking back on this movie now, the best thing about it for me was Ke Huy Quan's performance as Short Round. He and Harrison Ford apparently didn't see each other again until just last year. I'm glad that he's been able to make a big comeback after such a long absence from Hollywood
Because of the connection Ke Huy Quan made with Steven Spielberg, the director and actor remained in contact throughout the years and Spielberg sent him Christmas gifts every year.
I am both aggravated, and revealed that Short Round is not in Indy 5. The first because it's a good thing to do, the second, because I know Kennedy had a shit movie made that ruins Indiana.
Note that this is actually a prequel to Raiders, which means we see Indy's transformation from hunting 'fortune & glory', to becoming a man with integrity and a moral compass. It happens when he decides to investigate where the screams are coming from, instead of leaving with the Sankara stones.
I did always find that weird, because in Raiders he says "I don't believe in magic...a lot of superstitious hocus-pocus," which would be kind of a crazy thing to say if he'd gone through this experience just one year earlier. To a lesser extent, his line from the same conversation where he says to Marcus "You sound like my mother" feels at odds with the fact that his mother died when he was very young. The obvious answer to both is that they hadn't come up with the story for either subsequent film yet, it's just something that feels off in retrospect.
@@Corn_Pone_Flicks it also feels off since he doesn't grow out of the "It belongs in a Museum" thing until the 3rd movie and he was all about "glory" in Raiders of the Lost Ark, so he didn't really grow out of that either.
Yeah I am noticing that Indy in Emperor’s Tomb (a game that is set BEFORE Temple of Doom) he does seem a tad bit more…greedy and cutthroat (I haven’t finished playing it yet but that IS what I’m getting at so far)
It's my favorite of the three. Nothing wrong with the others. The story and pacing are perfect. Very little time is wasted and the action is fantastic. The cast is 90 % amazing as well. Willy maybe the worst love interest but she plays the role well. She's a diva who's stuck in a horror fantasy adventure.
Regarding the Hindu theology (and why Temple of Doom is wildly misunderstood) - the diety worshiped by the cult is not Kali, but some sort of demon. There was a deleted scene where Indy elaborates on this, as he is tipped off by the banquet. It's supposed to be gross to suggest that something is wrong. Shiva sends Indy as his avatar to vanquish the cult, rescue the children from hell (underground demonic prisons are a big theme), and return the Shankara stones. The village elder says as much and when Indy battles with Mola Ram, he invokes Shiva's name and the flaming stones burn Mola but not Indy.
Do you have a source on that? It's not on any list of deleted scenes I've ever seen. Like I've seen the deleted scenes that more fully flesh out the mythology of the Ark of the Covenant, and explain for audiences not versed in the Old Testament why Indy knows not to look in the Ark when it's opened, but I've never heard about anything where Indy describes they're worshiping a demon and not Kali (especially because Indy outright SAYS they're worshiping Kali during the sacrifice scene).
So I'm a theology/mythology nerd (thanks in no small part to Indiana Jones) and I always thought that the issue with ToD is that they are worshipping Kali Ma (aka Mahakali) which is a separate being to Kali. They depict Kali Ma as a brutal and bloodthirsty deity, likely in relation to the episode where she was extremely violent & destructive. She was about to destroy the universe before Shiva threw himself under her feet. Since the Thugee were a cult, and cults tend to hyperfixate on one aspect of a deity to relate better to, I can see why they'd choose this one. Humans love to be violent & cruel if they think they can get away with it
I always suspected that Mola Ram was actually Sankara, the original owner of the stones, somehow immortal like the Grail Knight in Last Crusade - but he clearly turned away from Shiva towards Kali Ma at some point. Hence Indy calling Mola Ram out, and saying he *"betrayed"* Shiva - up to that point, there's been no hint that Mola Ram had anything to do with Shiva. Mola Ram's insistence that "The stones are MINE!!!" might have been literal, and that might actually be what tips Indy off that it's the original Sankara he's dealng with.
"Those poor chickens!" After watching this movie off and on for decades, for the first time, you managed to leave a fowl feeling in my heart. Best. Mike.
Reiterating what others have said, the dinner sequence was not meant to insult Indian culture or their cuisine, but to foreshadow that there was something very twisted and evil happening in the palace... since they were all under the spell of a demon. Indiana Jones movies always had the grossout factor. It was part of their charm.
@@mitchhamilton64 This is an action movie, not a documentary. You have the bad guys (the Thugees) vs the good guys (the poor villagers and Indiana Jones and Crew). There aren't shades of grey. So, you are hyperventilating over nothing.
@@mitchhamilton64 Yeah if only they had some reference that something twisted and evil was happening. I mean they had hearts being ripped out of chests, Magic mind control, blood drinking, whipping children. Burning people in lava, but no signs of anything twisted or evil.
Maybe because this was the Indiana Jones movie I saw most as a kid, but I’ve always liked Indy and Willie’s wacky love-hate relationship, it’s very 1930s screwball comedy. Plus, it’s a good juxtaposition against all the dark themes and scenes, so it helps balance in the movie out.
Temple of Doom has a mixed reception, but I love it. It's my favorite of the series. Willy is a hillarious parody of damsels in distress, Shorty is THE best sidekick, and Indy actually makes a difference. He returns the Shankara stone to the village and rescues all their children, while in Raiders the Ark is locked away in a box after killing a handful of badguys 😅
This movie was a prequel - set in 1935. Raiders was in 1936, Last Crusade is in 1938, and Crystal Skull is set in 1957. Lucas and Spielberg wanted Indy to have a different "Bond Girl" each film. That's why this was a prequel. Marion was still in Nepal during the events of this movie so they didn't have to state where she was or why she wasn't still with Indy.
All three were full of surprises in the 80's in the theaters. They were all a definite must-see and at the time it was interesting to see the difference in tone and scope.
The next Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade is one of the best, Steven Spielberg feels the same as you in regards to the film as he too felt it was too dark. This actually was the first one I saw as a kid at 9yrs old and was my favorite film ever, I love Short Round and wanted to go on adventures with Indy. As an Indian only the food bit in the palace I felt was there to gross out the audience on our food but I still have fun with in never the less, the Kali Cult was a real cult back in the 18th - Early 20th century so it's not a completely fictional piece. I think you will enjoy Last Crusade more as it's back to the tone of Raiders and the most Spielberg out of the 3 and it's most people's favorite. I hope you carry on with the series thou. I do love the Sean Connery Bond reference as Indy wears a white Tux at the start which is the exact same as Sean Connery's James Bond in the movie Gold Finger.
Both Spielberg and Lucas were going through tough breakups/divorce, so they were in a very dark place when they made this film. That may also partly explain why Willie is made to be so obnoxious and unlikeable, especially in contrast to Marion in the previous film
Temple of Doom was my favorite when I first saw it as a kid, both because it's the first one I saw, and the fact the I was about the same age as Short Round when I saw it. I thought it was so cool that a kid like me was getting to go on adventures with Indy. As I got older, I still enjoyed Temple, but Last Crusade easily became my favorite of the trilogy.
Great reaction! 😊 This movie is a prequel to the first one "Raiders of the Lost Ark". This movie takes place in 1935. And the first movie takes place a year or so later. 4:33 Fun Fact #1: Yes. This was Ke Huy Quan's breakout movie role. He is a great actor, and definitely deserved that Academy Award for "Everything Everywhere All at Once". Fun Fact #2: Director Steven Spielberg met his future wife Kate Capshaw(who plays Willie) while making this movie. 17:46 Fun Fact #3: This is the scene that prompted one of the first PG-13 rated movies. Definitely looking forward to "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" next. It's my absolute favorite of the Indiana Jones movies. Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊
Fun Fact: All three main characters were named after dogs. Indiana: George Lucas's dog. Willie: Steven Spielburg's dog Short Round: (I can't remember their names but I know he's named after a dog).
It's funny how people see things different ways. I always assumed the banquet's gross-out factor was supposed to be a tip that sinister things were afoot behind the pleasant faces.
You were correct. The novelization confirms that. "'Even if they were trying to scare us away, a devout Hindu would never touch meat,' Indiana nodded. 'Makes you wonder what these people are.'"
Best part in my opinion is the heart rip scene. And the most heartwarming is when the children reunite with their parents. A happy ending to a dark film.
15:06 that was one of the great things about 80s movies (and those that came out in 1990, specifically) - they were really brutal and in your face. As kids at the time we LOVED them!
Part of the reason this movie is so dark in tone was apparently due to both George Lucas and Steven Spielberg going through stressful times in both their private and professional lives; and some of that darkness found it's way into the making of this particular movie, or so I've gathered from watching various interviews with both of them.
It was released one year after Lucas divorced his wife (who apparently cheated on him while making the last Star Wars in the OT)...so yes it played a big part. The divorce affected almost everything he did after.
@@francisalbert1799 Spielberg has a habit of saying that about his "darker" sequels. He was extremely dissatisfied bordering on deep regret for making The Lost World Jurassic Park, finding it shallow, empty and devoid of real merit. But that may have been due to the fact he was fully off his adventure, blockbuster movie kick and onto his historical drama phase that's dominated his career for the last 25 years more than it had to do with the extreme tonal shift of the 2nd JP. Schindler's List completely kicked his film tastes out of whack in that regard, ruined his ability to make a simple, popcorn film.
9:00 actually those are not "vampire bats" as Indy says. They are Flying Foxes and they eat fruit. They are more light tolerant than bloodsucking bats. They are very common in India, Southeast Asia and Australia.
29:39 "I feel like the last Indiana Jones film was a lot more jokes and punchlines" Get ready for the next one then. Last Crusade is so much fun to watch as it brings back the comedy in spades. Sean Connery is hilarious in it. It's by far my favorite Indy movie. I can watch it over and over again and never get tired of it. I'm so excited for you to see it for the first time!
When this first came out, a lot of people thought this was relatively violent and uncomfortable. I liked it, though. I also watch it in black and white. I have a setting on my TV that I worked at, to imitate how black and white movies looked on UHF channels when I was a kid. That's how I watch movies that take place in the 30s and 40s, including Capt. America: the First Avenger.
This was certainly the "fever dream" edition of Indy. We enjoyed it as kids, but it was a strange turn. "The Last Crusade" is a lot more like the original and features the legendary Sean Connery. Can't wait until you see it!
I remember watching and rewatching this movie many times as a kid and loving it. I thought it was just another Indiana Jones movie. I was kind of surprised later when I found out people thought it was really dark and got generally lower reviews. 😆
Yeah, it's really not THAT much more of a gross-out compared to the first one, right? At least I didn't think so at the time. The first one has snakes crawling all over, Marion getting covered in mummies, a guy being massacred by a propeller (the same actor who gets crushed under the roller in this movie!) and of course all of our favorite, the melting faces. Originally, this was meant to be a darker but recognizable second installment "The empire strikes back" style, and I for one think that's exactly what we got. I do admit I was a little - not much, but a little - disappointed with "The last crusade" when it came out, because I expected that one to go even further but instead they toned it down and made it a little tamer.
Рік тому+1
The first one has more graphic deaths and gore. The second film has a better ending than the first. And the third film was too weak and lazy.
This movie has the lowest-lows and is incredibly harsh, but to me that makes the ending the best one and the happiest. Seeing the looks of the mothers' faces as they see their children never fails to choke me up.
People give Willie a lot of crap, but considering she's a woman in the 20's she is reacting in very realistic fashion, not to mention most of us would be reacting more like her to things she has to experience, whether they admit it or not, than Indy, Short Round or any other generic action movie character! :D
yeah, it's pretty annoying the way people treat her, I don't know the timeframe, but Spielberg married the actress and when I see the film and all the screaming she's doing while she's being put through the ringer with the bugs etc..to me it just looks like Spielberg was having flirting with her, like how kids used to flirt, haha, sometimes I think people don't like her just because they don't want to see Indy with anyone else other than Marion, or they want Harrison all to themselves, who knows, people are weird
And like, at some point you got to just acknowledge that stereotyping and playing up charicatures and tropes is fun! Willie is absolutely amazing as comic relief, and probably my favorite character in this movie. All this without being distasteful. Kate Capshaw had a blast playing her I recall reading somewhere, because honestly; women don't get to be funny/goofy in movies nearly enough.
The way you feel about this film's darkness was what most people thought of it when it came out. This is, in fact, generally speaking, the least liked of the first three films. The next film, Last Crusade, reestablishes the humor and tone of the first film (some might say they went a little too far the other direction in response to this one's criticisms). This one was so dark, in fact, and advertised as such, that my parents decided not to take us to see it in the theater despite us all liking the first one very much. This film, BTW, and the critics' reaction to its darker tone actually pushed Spielberg to lobby for the creation of the PG-13 rating. People in general also didn't care for Kate Capshaw in the film, but she and Spielberg fell in love on set and later got married. They're still together today!
I recall reading somewhere that the reason for the gross dinner scene at the palace wasn't intended to be insulting to Indian culture as if that's what they eat. Rather it was to symbolize the evil and corruption that dwelled under the surface of this seemingly pristine and luxurious palace.
@JP Ruiz That's how I always saw it as well. It's kind of like the party scene in the Hunger Games where people talk about gorging themselves and then vomiting just so they can eat more, even though everyone outside the Capital is starving. It's supposed to show that yes, these are the bad guys. It's a pity that a lot of people get hung up on the idea that it's supposedly racist or culturally insensitive instead of actually noticing the real point.
Yeah, Temple of Doom has that sinister tone that isn't liked by many, including myself. It is a good movie though, and I can't wait until you watch The Last Crusade, simply the best movie of the franchise, hands down.
My all time favorite Indiana Jones movie, probably because it's the first one I ever recall seeing, since my mom always loved it despite it's very dark theme. Definitely had a few good laughs at your reactions, like I had never give any thought to the chickens on the plane until now! As for the food, it's an iconic moment, I don't think any disrespect was meant, clearly it's an evil cult trying to half hide their evil ways.
This move was a cause of controversy back when it came out. I remember that sacrifice scene upset a lot of people, especially some religious circles. People had never seen anything like that in a mainstream movie at that time.
But because of that tone alongside with Willie being annoying, Steven Spielberg apologized for the backlash of this and promised to change the next one for the better.
Willie is a classic damsel in distress though clumsy. However, Short Round is the standout, and this is an all-out fun adventure. It may be the weaker of the original three but far superior to any that followed it. I wish they did a Short Round spin-off akin to Creed for the Rocky franchise.
Try viewing Relic Hunter (1999 - 2002) TV series. I always thought of Tia Carrere's character as Short Rounds daughter. That would make Indy her Foster Grand Father.
Temple of Doom is definitely the darkest of the trilogy. Last Crusade will probably feel a lot more like the first to you, but with its own charm. Before the newer movies came out, this movie was always considered the dark sheep of the trilogy with it being very polarizing. Some people really didn't like it, others really love how different it is. (I'm in the middle, its not my favorite, but I do enjoy it as a change of pace when revisiting the trilogy). I get why people don't like Willie. But I actually love the dynamic between her and Indy. I think she was solid comedy relief. And I actually think the chemistry works as one of those love-hate relationships. Your generation doesn't seem to really get the fighting with sexual tension thing; Ive seen a lot of younger people view the relationship as you did. But that trope was quite common in movies so them getting together really wasn't a shock back in the day.
The main antagonist was a great actor in the Bollywood movie Industry and his name was Amrish Puri. Did a lot of villain roles in his younger days. And played as the father of Priyanka Chopra Jonas wife of Nick Jonas in a comedy movie. Everybody in India loved him.🇮🇳🙏
A little bit of Indy trivia: After their escape from the club, that was Dan Aykroyd escorting them to Lao Che's plane. Also, George Lucas, Stephen Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, and Frank Marshall were the group of missionaries in the background of that same scene. Also, Willie is played by Kate Capshaw, Spielberg's wife.
Yes, Vkunia, it's only been a year since the last one. He battles a cult and its leader, reminiscent of Leon in RE4 (as well as the mine cart ride). Shiva being involved was a cool touch. I do like this one, especially the "heart" scene. Short Round aka Ke Huy Quan was also in The Goonies the following year as Data. He appeared as an adult in Everything, Everywhere, All At Once with Michelle Yeoh. Nice reaction. Harrison is a helicopter pilot, he knows how to fly lol. RIP chickens.
Spielberg made the Last Crusade to honor a 3 movie agreement, but he made it as good as it was to make up for criticism he got after this one came out. It's a great movie.
I love this movie because I watched it so many times as a kid but it is also great for first time watchers due to the jump scares and shock value. Your reactions didn't disappoint, V!
Both Lucas and Spielberg were in dark places in their life going through divorces. As they made Temple of Doom, some of that Darkness made it's way into the film. It wasn't until after the films release that Spielberg petitioned for the PG-13. Yes, Temple of Doom spawned PG-13
It's more a production reason. They simply wanted every adventure to have a different girl. Narratively the greatest extent of their 'chemistry' is antipathy, a grown-up version of schoolyard teasing your crush, but it's kind of a fling as in they're the only ones there, so shared obstacles and situation. As others pointed out, they're not still together the year after. Someone of Willie's personality wouldn't go on another one of these adventures. It's NOT her "idea of a swell time"..
Laughing @ “ this isn’t action adventure it’s a horror movie” I loved growing up in the 80’s movies like this, gremlins and Beastmaster were good wholesome family entertainment back then lol
4:30 For the first time, we are introduced to a boy that became a man whose talent as a world class actor could only be matched or surpassed by how universally he is beloved or more likely, by his stalwart perseverance to achieve his dream, one which many might have deemed impossible. Personally, it's all of them because Ke Huy Quan is nothing short of a bona fide champion at Life.

Timeline for the Indiana Jones films: 1935 Temple of Doom, 1936 Raiders, 1912/1938 Last Crusade, 1957 Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The other canon Indiana Jones material involves the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles which ranges between 1908 through 1926. Indiana was born in 1899, and it shows Indy has lived at least until 1992-93.
The Bar's name where begining the movie is "Club Obi-Wan". When they escaping the name is above the front entrance of the Bar. Very funny Star Wars reference
the man who charters Lao Che's plane for Indy in Shanghai was none other than Dan Aykroyd who did the role as a thank you to Spielberg for appearing at the end of Blues Brothers for Dan 4 years earlier. A nice bit of camaraderie between two creative titans.
The opening is interesting in how both factions try to keep a low profile - the Black Market at work. Once Indy's life is in question after the loss of his friend, all bets are off as the Kebabs come out and panic ensues. It's about this time I go refill my drink because if I have to watch another scene of panic where the background extras keep running from side to side, in both directions, simultaneously, I'll scream. :)
The best Indiana Jones film will always shall be Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. James Bond and Indiana Jones in one film together and a much more meaningful adventure story
25:21 "Oh, this would be a cool, like, ride." It is. Disneyland's Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye. It's fucking awesome. Defninitely my favorite ride of all time.
Great reaction video. It's probably nostalgia, but this is my favorite of the 1st 3. It is definitely dark, but has the best payoff ending. Don't know if you caught it, but the club at the beginning is called Club Obi-Wan. And the man helping Indy aboard the plane, was a cameo by Dan Ackroyd. Can't wait for your Indy 3 reaction. ❤
Temple of Doom is my favorite Indy film. So much humor, I saw it in theaters as a 6 year old in 1984. So it was a big part of my childhood watching it countless times in the years to follow. The gross out stuff was just funny to me as a child. Raiders of the Lost Ark 9/10 Temple of Doom 10/10 The Last Crusade 9.5/10
So in response to your question at 26:20 - Alligators in your dreams symbolize your feelings of experiencing deceit or treachery in life, or in facing harsh criticism. In many ways, this film has aged the least well of all the Indiana Jones films. It was boycotted in India when it originally came out due to the banquet scene (actual Hindus/Muslims/Jains all take dietary rules very seriously).
This is my favourite Indiana Jones movie. Willie was a girl who was out way out of her comfort zone. She did well for the role she was to play. Key hu Quan who played Shorty really made this movie so good
You gotta feel for Pat Roach. He played the big Thuggee who got mauled in the rock crusher. In Raiders of the Lost Ark, he was the Nazi who got chopped up by the propeller.
13:00 The Dinner wasn't just for Shock value. These people are hindues and hindues don't eat meat of any kind. This is the first clue that the villagers were right about the palace is corrupted with evil.
The "big guy" is late British wrestler Pat Roach, who stood 6'5'' tall and weighed in at 275 pounds. He makes 4 appearances in the Indiana Jones movies (2 in Raiders of the Lost Ark, once in The Last Crusade, and once in Temple of Doom).
TRIVIA - the Thuggee that Indy fights on the rock conveyor is the same actor that he fought in Indiana Jones and The Raiders of the Lost Ark that got eaten by the plane propeller.
I was a kid when my grandma took me to see this. I loved it, but I think she loved it even more. On a side note, the big guy that goes into the rock crusher is the same actor / stuntman, Pat Roach, who got sliced and diced by the plane propeller in the first movie.
Upon rewatch, the romance in Temple of Doom definitely felt like a very poorly done Bond style relationship lol Otherwise I still enjoyed it now as much as I did when I was younger. Also, I can't even blame Willie for the bug cave scene, Indie straight up woulda died if I was in her shoes in that situation LMAO
I've thought about this. Indy and Willy really really don’t like each other but there’s a strong physical attraction between them. They were never going to have a real relationship. I am betting after these events, and after they knocked boots a couple times they never really spoke again. Maybe they were cordial but there never gonna be anything serious between them. Once I thought about that it all made since.

@@Ambaryerno The book has it. It's also how the British guy knew to get his soldiers together. He also recognized that something was wrong.
Yeah, they're not saying Indian culture is gross. The Death Cult that worships a demonic aspect of Kali in the Temple of Doom is who's gross.
Chinese gangsters: uses guns in Club Obi-Wan.
Obi-Wan: So uncivilized.
5:18 "it's his airline!" You'd be surprised how many reactors missed that
"Those poor chickens!"
After watching this movie off and on for decades, for the first time, you managed to leave a fowl feeling in my heart.
Best.
LMFAO...right.
There was a scene written in the screenplay that explained some of the mythology and culture but it was cut from the film.
The people in India are virtually all vegetarian.
At least the Ark of the Covenant wasn't in the hands of the Nazis.
@@StevarooniThey all would've killed themselves though no?
“I hope we don’t see them torturing children”
2 minutes later “I was hoping they’d kick that child into the lava”😂
Yeah I had to chuckle at that.
It was so sweet, hearing about Indy and Shortround's actors reuniting years later, last year at the Disney Expo.
V: "I didn't expect this movie to be so brutal."
Me: patiently waits for sacrifice & mine scene.
There is no fourth or fifth movie.
Do not speak of Indiana Jones 4 or 5
"Hold on, lady. We're going for a ride." My favorite line from this movie.
"hang on lady we going for a ride" love that line.
No chickens were harmed in the making of this movie.
All three were full of surprises in the 80's in the theaters. They were all a definite must-see and at the time it was interesting to see the difference in tone and scope.
Unpopular opinion: This is the best Indiana Jones movie. The darker tone definitely works for me
The next Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade is one of the best, Steven Spielberg feels the same as you in regards to the film as he too felt it was too dark.
As I got older, I still enjoyed Temple, but Last Crusade easily became my favorite of the trilogy.
for real, short round is such an MPV... he saved indie, he was a true son
MVP*
Great reaction! 😊
This movie is a prequel to the first one "Raiders of the Lost Ark".
Willie: Steven Spielburg's dog
Short Round: (I can't remember their names but I know he's named after a dog).
Gremlins was the other one
The other big movie that Ke Huy Quan is known for from his childhood is The Goonies.
yup...ALL 3 Indiana Jones movies are great...though I still prefer the 1st one!
@@ar47yrr4p All 3?There are 4, plus nr. five will come out in late June this year.
This is gold compared to the stuff they pass as action adventure today.
It’s the one film Spielberg wishes he hadn’t done. Or the darkness of it anyway
'It's Not Called the Temple of Roses: It's Called the Temple of Doom.'
16:17 😅😂😂 “You say to stand against the wall!” Vicky’s so done lol.
9:00 actually those are not "vampire bats" as Indy says. They are Flying Foxes and they eat fruit. They are more light tolerant than bloodsucking bats. They are very common in India, Southeast Asia and Australia.
29:39 "I feel like the last Indiana Jones film was a lot more jokes and punchlines"
Get ready for the next one then. Last Crusade is so much fun to watch as it brings back the comedy in spades. Sean Connery is hilarious in it. It's by far my favorite Indy movie. I can watch it over and over again and never get tired of it. I'm so excited for you to see it for the first time!
No chickens were harmed in the making of this film..... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Knock-knock.
Who's there?
Dishes.
Dishes who?
Dishes Sean Connery.
The first one has more graphic deaths and gore. The second film has a better ending than the first. And the third film was too weak and lazy.
People hate Willie but I think her reactions to everything are absolutely accurate to how I’d react especially to the bugs
This movie has the lowest-lows and is incredibly harsh, but to me that makes the ending the best one and the happiest. Seeing the looks of the mothers' faces as they see their children never fails to choke me up.
Yup, someone definitely is cutting onions - moreso than any of the other movies.
You've been cranking out the bangers lately and I love it! :)
Can't wait for Last Crusade!
When I was a kid this was my favorite of the three Indiana Jones movies. I was fascinated with the heart ripping.
Now you know from where Mortal Kombat got this fatality.
It's still my favorite Indy movie.
I recall reading somewhere that the reason for the gross dinner scene at the palace wasn't intended to be insulting to Indian culture as if that's what they eat. Rather it was to symbolize the evil and corruption that dwelled under the surface of this seemingly pristine and luxurious palace.
Supposedly they don't kill a living thing because it might be a relative of theirs reincarnated, yet they eat an all meat diet? 😂
FRIED CHICKEN FOR EVERYONE 😂
George stated he wrote this movie during a dark period of his life, namely his divorce.
its my fav of the trilogy because its darker actualy
But because of that tone alongside with Willie being annoying, Steven Spielberg apologized for the backlash of this and promised to change the next one for the better.
It’s a good thing they never did and never will make a Indiana Jones movie after the third one 😅
@@uttula there is only three films for me lol
Willie is a classic damsel in distress though clumsy. However, Short Round is the standout, and this is an all-out fun adventure. It may be the weaker of the original three but far superior to any that followed it. I wish they did a Short Round spin-off akin to Creed for the Rocky franchise.
Try viewing Relic Hunter (1999 - 2002) TV series. I always thought of Tia Carrere's character as Short Rounds daughter. That would make Indy her Foster Grand Father.
5:43 excellent way to find out if you can trust someone/if they're evil - tell them a joke and assess the laugh.
Everybody in India loved him.🇮🇳🙏
The heart removal parts scared the crud out of me when I was a kid
A little bit of Indy trivia: After their escape from the club, that was Dan Aykroyd escorting them to Lao Che's plane. Also, George Lucas, Stephen Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy, and Frank Marshall were the group of missionaries in the background of that same scene.
Also, Willie is played by Kate Capshaw, Spielberg's wife.
0:30: Oh you poor fool LOL
Yes, Vkunia, it's only been a year since the last one. He battles a cult and its leader, reminiscent of Leon in RE4 (as well as the mine cart ride). Shiva being involved was a cool touch. I do like this one, especially the "heart" scene. Short Round aka Ke Huy Quan was also in The Goonies the following year as Data. He appeared as an adult in Everything, Everywhere, All At Once with Michelle Yeoh. Nice reaction. Harrison is a helicopter pilot, he knows how to fly lol. RIP chickens.
Surprisingly dark…. Temple of .. Doom
Love the reactions to classics
Spielberg made the Last Crusade to honor a 3 movie agreement, but he made it as good as it was to make up for criticism he got after this one came out. It's a great movie.
I love this movie because I watched it so many times as a kid but it is also great for first time watchers due to the jump scares and shock value. Your reactions didn't disappoint, V!
Both Lucas and Spielberg were in dark places in their life going through divorces. As they made Temple of Doom, some of that Darkness made it's way into the film. It wasn't until after the films release that Spielberg petitioned for the PG-13. Yes, Temple of Doom spawned PG-13
we all need a shorty in our life
It's more a production reason.
Short round is the best and this movie is off the rails & has some screws loose. thats why i love it 😂
Fortune and glory, kid. Fortune and glory...
Maybe there wasn't chemistry with Harrison Ford but surely was with Steven Spielberg, she became his wife after shooting movie.
Laughing @ “ this isn’t action adventure it’s a horror movie” I loved growing up in the 80’s movies like this, gremlins and Beastmaster were good wholesome family entertainment back then lol
What a good man. In the end, he gave them back the holy sandwich roll. This always reminds me of the Young Sherlock Holmes movie.
Whoo... This is the first time I saw someone upset with the chicken on the plane haha xD
Edit : The hearth scene traumatise me. Saw it when I was... 9 !
Highly recommend seeing The Last Crusade soon. Maybe it's because it's my favorite, but it is right up there with Raiders of the Lost Ark
This one is set before Raiders of the lost Ark,yes this was a lot darker, that heart removal seen was more graphic but they had to tone it down.
Love that you are so worried about the chickens!
They made delicious mountainside BBQ.
The Bar's name where begining the movie is "Club Obi-Wan". When they escaping the name is above the front entrance of the Bar. Very funny Star Wars reference
Yeah, these movies, in particular, were bending that PG rating back in the 80's to their breaking point, Lol
6:29 "Those poor chickens!" Well ma'am, now you have some roast chickens!! LOL
@5:19, I always thought this was clever, if on purpose. "What are you supposed to be? A lion tamer?" "I'm a llowing you to tag a long."
This is definitely the darkest of them all, by far. The third is probably the best overall and closer in time to the first, maybe the funniest too.
the man who charters Lao Che's plane for Indy in Shanghai was none other than Dan Aykroyd who did the role as a thank you to Spielberg for appearing at the end of Blues Brothers for Dan 4 years earlier.
27:55
The soldiers were, as I understood it gathered by the Maharajah.
If my eyes not are wrong it's him that lead the way for them.
25:21 "Oh, this would be a cool, like, ride."
It is. Disneyland's Indiana Jones Adventure: Temple of the Forbidden Eye. It's fucking awesome. The only reason I don't ride it over and over again is because of the lines. Honestly, I'm not the biggrst fan of Disneyland, but I'd go there every day just to ride it as many times as I can. Defninitely my favorite ride of all time.
Fantastic reaction
Temple of Doom, kinda freaked me out. When I was a kid.
THE LAST CRUSADE, is fantastic.
You’re awesome 😎 , keep it up 👍
Great reaction video.
The greatest Indiana Jones film of all-time by far! Temple of Doom has everything.
Temple of Doom is my favorite Indy film. So much humor, I saw it in theaters as a 6 year old in 1984. So it was a big part of my childhood watching it countless times in the years to follow. The gross out stuff was just funny to me as a child.
Raiders of the Lost Ark 9/10
Temple of Doom 10/10
The Last Crusade 9.5/10
So in response to your question at 26:20 - Alligators in your dreams symbolize your feelings of experiencing deceit or treachery in life, or in facing harsh criticism. In many ways, this film has aged the least well of all the Indiana Jones films. It was boycotted in India when it originally came out due to the banquet scene (actual Hindus/Muslims/Jains all take dietary rules very seriously).
"Physics? Never heard of, I'm just an archeologist")))) Indiana Jones performing yet another lethal trick without a scratch))))
This movie is the classic example of "from a different time"
The "big guy" is late British wrestler Pat Roach, who stood 6'5'' tall and weighed in at 275 pounds.
This was my favorite one because it was the newest one when I was a kid. Imagine my excitement when I was a teen and Crusade came out.
I was a kid when my grandma took me to see this. I loved it, but I think she loved it even more. On a side note, the big guy that goes into the rock crusher is the same actor / stuntman, Pat Roach, who got sliced and diced by the plane propeller in the first movie.
Upon rewatch, the romance in Temple of Doom definitely felt like a very poorly done Bond style relationship lol
Otherwise I still enjoyed it now as much as I did when I was younger.
