On your 66 F100, just a suggestion....... do a valve job (it sounds like tappets). Also I have prolonged an engines life by using STP additive. Oh, just saw you using it. it wont cure it, but it will help.
To do said valve job, per the owners manual from the 60's: Run the truck for 5 minutes or so to warm it up; remove a valve cover and restart engine. loosen the rocker arm nut until it clatters and then tighten it down till it stops, then back it off 1/4turn and repeat for each rocker arm. When you get it done replace the gasket and do the same to the bank.
It's fun watching you work through things in rea l time. "Well...whatever we did made it worse". Yep, keep it running until another engine is ready, you might need to run to Autozone. That barn rocks! How old is it?
Nice!!!! Like the window regulator tip!!! The Velcro is not far from what is in a 63 chevy track. Converter bolts sound like a rod knock almost as it is a double knock. It sounded like lifters to begin with. Ford is not adjustable. Couple of things, in case you are not aware. A 71 302 is 28 oz of imbalance and a roller 302 is 50 oz and will require a different flywheel and balancer. It would probably be better to go with a roller 351 as it will be 28 oz. But not imposable to go with a 5.0 it has been done many times. 351will also be overall wider slightly. Mixing and matching flywheels and transmissions is not straight forward on a Ford. On late stuff (I say late lol, from the late 80s/90s) truck manual trans flywheel teeth are 3/8" deep from the starter mounting surface and auto is 3/4". And there is probably a book of info between c3/4, c5, c6, FMX etc. Als HO firing order is the same as a 351 and roller cams need a hardened distributor gear or it will wipe out the cam and dizzy gear.
years ago a friend had 302 ford took off valve cover to replace gaskets it was terrible we pulled intake and oil pan and both valve covers took hot water pressure washer and washed it good got really clean. worked good was afraid to run flush might stop up oil pickup in pan
Hey Dave I am sure you know but maybe you can try the old pulling one plug wire at a time to see if the sound goes away to see if it is a rod. But at the end you said it is getting better so dont think that is the problem.Good luck with the old girl!
Well dave it could be worse It could be blown up already It's rattling it's just telling me it's there I think it's just Valve, train, tell you it's there. I'm so sorry but I do like your old truck.I like old trucks.I'm trying to put mine back together again. Rather having a hard time😢😢😢😢
Yes, very much so. It's very time consuming and stressful trying to get videos out. I debate just not doing this almost every week lol. If the views fall off much more I'm not sure we'll bother to continue with it. That's the honest answer.
Done a great job, certainly make it more comfortable, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
The 66 is a great year, just FYI you have fans that love that truck! Your videos are great, love what you do, keep it up.
I appreciate it!!
I bet it's that balancer making noise. My '68 360 had that same noise that would go away with throttle. Balancer ring was toast.
I just ordered one and will give it a shot. It's bad regardless.
Totally agree with you about Auto Zone! 👍
Unfortunately true.

Barn is a repro like the house. Built in 1985. Still falling apart though lol.

Che k the flex plate if it's a auto, use a long ratchet extension touch motor other end to ear and listen to where noise is
That's the plan. It would be nice if it's converter bolts.
try statoscope to pinpointe where the nock is comming from. who knows might earn md degree in the process.

Hey Dave,
Are you suffering UA-cam burnout ?
Yes, very much so. It's very time consuming and stressful trying to get videos out. I debate just not doing this almost every week lol. If the views fall off much more I'm not sure we'll bother to continue with it. That's the honest answer.
Dear Mr Ginger... Va China is way better in my opinion... lol!!
Agreed!
^^ Like number 200
Maybe an exhaust leak?
