Thanks! Basically, haha. You know the metro system was one of the reasons that drew me to live in DC compared to the other major cities; so I can definitely agree with you.
Oh that's awesome! I was always surprised, more people have been to New York City than DC. You've gotta try kabobs, Peruvian food, and Indian curry pizza! It's the best!! And same, I research everything before going somewhere too! 😂
THANK YOU!!! This covers so much of what my wife and I can get anxious about lol. So well put together and covered everything in great, easy to understand detail. Taking a vacation to DC in a couple of months and so glad we found this.
Thanks for the tips. It might not hurt to emphasize you need to tap your card when you board AND again when you exit! In my home Metro system we only need to tap when we board (each train). I worry I am going to forget and run into a gate that won't open. LOL
Oh nice! You'll enjoy it; it's gotta be my favorite city so far. Gotta check out the Smithsonian Zoo; completely free. If you have any issues feel free to message me
Thanks for making this video. I'll be visiting D.C. in April and plan on needing to make at least one round trip from the National Mall to Arlington Cemetery.
Thanks for the info! I have a SmarTrip card that still works, but I wasn't sure how to get SmarTrip cards for family that I'm bringing to DC this weekend. This was really helpful in how I can buy cards for them, then I'll save those cards to use for other guests in the future. I love riding the Metro and look forward to taking some family from Arkansas on their first visit to DC and their first Metro ride.
Of course! Happy to share my knowledge! Oh, that's gonna be an insane experience for them coming straight from Arkansas; definitely, a big change when I first moved from Columbus, OH to the DMV area. My favorite thing to show people is the Smithsonian Zoo; personally, haha
@@CalbyNg I love the zoo and need to go back. My first visit was when I was 2 with my Aunt & Uncle who still lived in the area. What I remember is being sick because they let me eat unlimited peanuts!!! LOL

I'm coming to DC with my family (wife, two kids). Do I have to have four separate cards for each of us if we're always going to be together? Or can we all just use the one card?
On the Metro map, what’s the difference between a Metro stop with a small circle with two small dashes, like Farragut North and a stop like Court House, which has only a small circle?
Good question! So the circle with two dashes is just trying to clearly show all three of those metro lines are connected; meaning you can get off at those stations and board any three of those lines. Verus stations like Court House without the dashes; are the same thing but only two connecting lines. More or less it's just a visual making it more clearer to follow.
Oh also, I know it's confusing, but the station you were referencing; I believe is actually Farragut West. Farragut North is on the red line, it's the stop just before Dupont Circle. Another interesting thing; that confused me at first. Farragut North and Farragut West are not connected, you have to leave the station to get to the other.
@@CalbyNg Tks for the insight. I don’t want to look like a clueless tourist wandering around completely lost, though I’m sure I’ll do it at least once :-)
@@TomJones-wi4nh Of course! Glad to help!! Haha, at the very least most people are pretty cool in DC; many are recent transplants, work in the military, or just expect to run into tourist. So I wouldn't be too afraid to ask for help; of course it's still a major city, so always be on alert.
Yes for under 10; but 4 and under, up to two kids, they can ride free. Honestly though, not legal advice, most station workers don’t care too much and I doubt the “fare” police (recently they have putting police to make sure people are paying the fares) wouldn’t care too much as long as they don’t look like a teen. Kind of like how buffets work, haha But seriously if you want to be safe officially after they are 5 and over they need separate passes.
You need to tell him to be careful with their SmarTrip because that can be erased at will apparently and then you have to go through 28 hoops get your money back frankly I’m not that impressed

the dc metro is probably the easiest, cleanest one I've been on, I love it
100%!! Actually it was one of the reasons I choose to move to DC over the other cities in the US
Clear explanation, thank you. Nothing much has chanced since 2006 if I am correct. Riding the metro in DC is so easy.

The DC Subway is super nice! It’s also way deeper underground than I expected! Great deep dive on how to use the Metro, Calby!

This was exactly what we did when we visited DC. It was very easy to do and navigating through DC was a breeze. Thanks.
Very cool and informative. I rode the train back in 2003 when I was 11. Haven’t been since. I hope to ride it again soon.👍👍
This is very helpful....today I just bought a 7 day unlimited pass and put $20 extra dollars on my card.
Going to DC this August! Was stationed in Fort Eustis Newport News and Fort Lee Prince George county back in 2009! Thanks for the info 👍

Yep! There are elevators at every single Metro stop; however, they may not be working sometimes

Oh for sure; kind of laughed a bit when New York's subway system raised their fares from $2.75 to $2.90, and that was deemed unaffordable.
Best way to ride is by jumping the turnstiles
Hahahaha, the hurdle dash trained me for this specific moment! Though I heard the Metro PD is pepper spraying people now 😬
That is against the law. Please buy a smart trip card and ride the system legally.
