DC area resident here for 50 yrs. Nicely done video! I wanted to point out, the names on the wall of the Vietnam memorial are not of those who served - they are of those who died in that war or remain missing. That is what makes it so striking.
Loved this one with all the history and the intricate architecture on all the buildings. I love the natural history museums, New York was my favourite but I would love to see that one in Washington too. Dad would be proud of you with that corny dad joke. It looked like you had a really fun day. Miss you both, love you, mum.xx 💕
Hi Jordan and Emily, great video of your time exploring Washington DC. The Time lapse footage by the Washington Monument was amazing with the White clouds streaming above the monument.
Wow! So many iconic places and I'm surprised so much was free. The Library of Congress is very influential. I studied a library course for a bit and it turns out one of the cataloging systems the Library of Congress came up with for subject headers has been widely adopted worldwide.
We are really enjoying your videos. They are providing such great inspiration for us as we recently started full-time travel ourselves. As Americans, it's particularly fun to watch two Australians experiencing the United States. The National Mall is deceptively large. You see pictures and you think, "I'll just walk from the Capitol Building to the Lincoln Memorial." What's amazing to me (even as a US Citizen) is that all of the Smithsonian Museums are free. Unfortunately, everything else is so $$$$. Glad you're enjoying yourselves. -Steph and Chris @388_days
Thanks for your comment! 😊 We had youtube friends go to our home town not long ago and it was so much fun to watch them exploring haha, so we know the feeling! We were very glad the museums were mostly free, because your right, the rest of it is vveerryy $$$
Nice video, thank you! A word of advice about the food trucks at the national mall, many (not all) of them are operated by one or two organizations, and they often run without permits/licenses and are known by locals to be somewhat of a scam. I've heard many locals tell me that if you do not see prices listed, walk away, unless you are okay paying $18 for an ice cream cone of questionable quality. Also, licensed trucks will be displaying their health certificate in the window. If you don't see that, again, walk away. The park rangers have been working with the DC police to have some of them towed recently, but the operators pay the fine and are back the same day a lot of times, with their co-workers holding their spot open while they are gone.
You're guys so cute. My wife and I are going to Washington DC. in a couple of week, and we'll try to replicate your "to-do" list over there. Thanks for the great content!
Thanks so much 😊 next time you'll see us well be in Nasvhilel but in real life we are actually in Colombia! Your going to looovvve Romania! Which cities are you heading too?
@@JordanandEmily oooo I look forward to seeing all your vlogs! I’m on a tour that goes to a winery near Arad, sighisoara, Brasov and Bucharest and then we head to veliko tarnovo and sofia!
@@ilovehouse387 Thats so good! Hopefully you get a chance to go to the same wine cellar we went to in sighisoara, their brandy is delicious and if memory serves its a 200 year old recipe! We're genuiny jealous, can't wait to get back to Romania!
Thanks so much! We actually had an amazing house sitting job while we were there so we looked after a puppy and stayed for free for 10 days! We have a house sitting video on youtube that has a discount code to the platform we use too, if your interested 😀
Have fun and be ready to walk long distances haha but really, best advice is to check museum times early, some of them you have to register to get into a certain time slot!
Haha we get that a lot when we're on the road, technically we're from SA but by that we mean South Australia 😄 definitely want to visit South Africa though!
A few things I would suggest that you didn't visit are: American History Museum with the First Ladies' inaugural gowns (free) The Portrait Gallery with the portraits of all the presidents and famous Americans (free) The National Cathedral on Wisconsin Ave. - (free) Mt. Vernon via boat from the Wharf in SW (not free) Hillwood - The Majorie Merriwether Post mansion in Van Ness (not free) Arlington Cemetery - tomb of the unknown (free) The Holocaust Museum The African American Museum
I think the tours still happen! We met a lovely couple who were booked on one - the only thing we noticed that was different was the fences (but could have been for HEAPS of reasons!)
You can still tour the WH - you have to contact your representative or senator up to 90 days ahead. They were also able to schedule a Supreme Court lecture and tour of FBI headquarters.
Wow what a tragic opinion. There is so much to see and learn about the way the United States functions, and its history that you do need to live near D.C. just to take most of it in. What's more shocking is how much of DC is either free or a dollar. American or not, Patriot or not, everyone capable should take a trip to DC for the knowledge and wonder... And so much of it is FREE!!
@@john2g1 I agree that there are some sites worth visiting. Many of the museums are very interesting and educational. I have worked in the area doing installations in some pretty sketchy areas. It’s also difficult to navigate. I guess if you stick to the NW area and historical sites, it’s not too bad. Maybe I’ve just seen so much of the dilapidated and rough areas that I’m a bit jaded. I’d be perfectly fine with never stepping foot in DC again.
@@Chris2inferno Well not to get political but in my eyes that's just another education on America. We (Americans) strongly believe in representation, local governance and sovereignty, and freedom... But Washington DC is controlled at the federal level by Congress. Basically none of the people in charge of DC actually live nor were voted for by Washington DC. Millions of dollars fund the greatest library and museum system in the world and it's 99% free... But nothing is done to reduce the cost of living, end poverty and homelessness, or even ensure DC residents have the same protection the rest of us enjoy from our state governments. The impoverished or "shady" sides of DC are as much a somber memorial to the trials of life as the WWII/Korea/Vietnam War memorials. What can we do for a better tomorrow? Lastly, if you know where to go there is some amazing food in the shady areas of DC. I am a multiple time veteran of the Afghanistan war so maybe American style violence and poverty hit me a little differently. To me it's just 'Murica!

What's your advice for a 1st time visitor to Washington DC we're going in 2025 for 7 days
Have fun and be ready to walk long distances haha but really, best advice is to check museum times early, some of them you have to register to get into a certain time slot!
You didn't mention the free Circulator busses. Those are both time- and feet- savers
We would have taken them if we knew haha
Teddy Roosevelt named it the White House when he was president. Before that, it was simply called "The Executive Mansion."
Aaahhh the more ya know! Thanks 😊
When do you home to Indonesia,or rarely
We are both from Australia and actually heading home in November for one of my bestie gals weddings ❤️
Are you guys South African? I heard “is it” and had flash backs to living in SA

These are great! thank you!
How far apart are these sites from one another ?
Long enough that if we had the money we'd consider uber 😄 but if you like to walk, there's no issues!
Can this be all covered in one day?
What time of year is this?
It would have been in April!
Great vid! They used to let people tour the White House not too long ago - 9/11 changed everything for us, not Trump:) Keep up the great work!

I dont believe the barriers were brought in during Trumps term.
Oh weird! Do you know when they were brought in?
Not sure why you have to knock Trump. You should not assume everyone shares your politics.
Agreed
But he is a meanie , always scowling.

Take it from a person who lives near DC, the best thing thing to do in DC is to avoid going. That city is horrible.
