@@marycomeau hii I’m such a big fannn🥹❤️, but to my question. If by any chance you and ur man decide to have kids in the future, how high is the risk of them getting t1d too?( I’m just asking bc I’m curious, sending so much loveee❤️❤️) ps: Nadia❤️
If you get the adhesive ‘burn’ from the patch you can get your doctor to prescribe Fluticazone to spray on your skin first. You spray your skin, let it dry and then apply the patch. That is what I do and it works wonderfully well!!!
It's so great to see such a candid, honest representation of T1D online~! Not realizing you bought the wrong kind of jello is so effing relatable 😂 T1D since 2001 but I've only been dealing with pumps and CGM since 2020, my skincare routine pre adhesive - spray the skin with flonase! I found I was allergic to the dexcom adhesive and it was giving me BLISTERS, but if I spray down flonase first and let it dry completely, it creates a barrier post adhesive - wipe it with alcohol and let it dry completely, then slap on the heaviest lotion you can come up with (aquafor is great, but also slimy... I bet coconut butter would be good, I just have random lotion all over my house) and reapply lotion anytime you notice the skin is dry. If you have ingrown hairs or othersuch bumps leftover, you can wash the area with salicylic acid face or body wash, and that should help exfoliate that stuff away. Also, my explanation of T1D usually goes like this... "So one morning my immune system woke up and chose violence, and was like HEY INSULIN-MAKING CELLS, WTF, and their relationship never recovered. My immune system killed off all those handy cells, and now I have to do the hard work manually."
Mary! You are so funny and fun to watch. My grandson was diagnosed with t1 at 3 1/2 yrs old. He just started kindergarten and doing well but a rough go for such a little guy😢. He watches your videos too. Thanks for all you do!
My favorite savory low carb snack is definitely charcuterie board. I put different cheeses, sometimes nuts, and if ur really high and don’t want crackers I love using cucumber slices. My favorite sweet low carb snacks are Greek yogurts, this specific diet mini cheesecake brand- Sc cheesecakes, and the brand JELL-O has great pudding cups!
I have been diabetic for 36 years and as you said in your video we know the risks involved and i get s fed up of being reminded of it by my diabetic nurse. I have just recently been using the Freestyle Libe 2 for the past four months. Im not sure about using the pump so I will just carry on with injecting myself with my Novo rapid insulin pen. I have had no complications here, its just a matter of being careful watching what you eat and how much insulin you put in (bit trial and error some days lol) but overall I am doing ok. You just get used to it eh? I love your new appartment by the way :) Take care x
When I’m going high, I set a ten minute timer and go quickly go up and down my stairs. In my basement I have some dumb bells, so I’ll throw in some arm exercises, then go up the stairs and around all my rooms. Back to the basement, some arm reps….or I’ll put a 10 min HIIT workout on the TV. I’m not T1D, just trying to avoid T2D.
My T1D softwares I use Insulin Pump: Omipod Dash Sensor Dexcom G6 (was gonna upgrade to the G7 but my skin hates it) Insulin Pump software: Loop (basically a pdm on my phone)
I use skin glu as a barrier between the adhesive patches and my skin. After removals I wash the area and then apply jojoba oil and a good quality lotion like Cetaphil.
You're too cute. Next video idea: Exercising with diabetes and the blood sugar fluctuations from it. Before vs. after, and the difference in weight lifting vs. cardio vs. a mix of activities. Love you! Thank-you!! Looking forward to more long form content!
I do squats when my blood sugar is high. Good low carb snacks for me include nuts, especially cashews. Of course they do have some carbs but personally I find they won’t affect my blood sugar if I eat a small amount
I’ve only had the Omnipod 5 for a month so far but find using small hydrocolloid bandages over the site that the cannula was in because I get red hard lumps at the site but they go away after. I also like using coconut oil around the area that had the adhesive 🙂 So far it works
I use Torbot Skin-Tac Liquid Adhesive for my overpatch on my G7. Helps keep the overpatch on because it blocks sweat and skin oils. I also find that it my skin is less damaged from the overpatch.
I found out I was a type 2 diabetic about 4 months ago. I’ve been able to manage it so far without insulin (through diet and medication), but thinking of all the problems I could have down the road is definitely scary. I was starting to have high blood pressure before being diagnosed, and I had an aunt who had that and died at 44 of a heart attack. I’m not that much younger than she was, and that thought is scary. Thankfully, I’m doing much better since getting the help I needed. I feel so much better, too.
My educator told me don't use alcohol wipes because they dry out the skin, then you immediately put adhesive on it. They said if you just have a shower and wait to be dry that is clean enough.
5:17 No overlay patches I have pretty sensitive skin, so how weaker the adhesive how better Especially the g7, i can pull that one off no problem and it doesn't leave marks This is the same for autosoft 90 But back when i was on pens i had a fl3, that one did leave marks, the adhesive was super strong which really hurt I used the Medtronic iport, and that one was easily pulled off with alcohol swabs
my arms for the free style libre 2 gets red and adhesive sticking i clean it with alcohol i buy the spritzer kind so i dont have to use tons of the alcohol pads as far as the red circle it goes away in about 4 days
What’s the best place to put your omnipod, I put mine mostly on lower back, other places seem to fall off. I didn’t even know you could put it on your thigh or front of your leg like you had it
Have you ever tried the Simpleras and Medtronic pump? If you have, what's your thoughts? I'm just being moved over to a pump from long and short acting insulin pens, but feeling a little overwhelmed because the pump and accessories all arrived in 2 deliveries the other day and it's a LOT. That and a course I had to complete with test questions along with a training day... I asked about the omnipod style version but apparently for whatever reason that's not an option for me, only this pump (maybe due to the levels I need? I have no idea) but it feels totally overwhelming, and on top of that, a new sensor to learn and new finger prick device for them all to speak to one another 🙈. I never use handbags etc, but I feel like I'm gonna have to start carrying around a beach bag with me just for all the stuff I'm going to need! 😂. I've had issues with the libre 2 sensors (which is what I use currently) sticking and issues when bathing/showering and them coming off, if you have tried the simplera ones, how do you find them compared to the libre? Any tips for this big change would be massively welcome! I have gastroperesis (which is why I have the diabetes issue I have, that predates the diabetes) and can only eat once a day, I have a hugely clean diet for the most part, made some big food sacrifices (food I LOVE like pasta 😂 and bread and white potatoes) swapped to sweet potatoes when having them, mostly I have a protein, salad/veggies and sweet potato either fries, jacket or mash.... but still struggle and because I don't always absorb everything or even anything sometimes, I can't bolus I have to be reactive rather than proactive and the long acting insulin can hold me low in those times, so theyre thinking the short acting insulin little and often as needed will help more to keep me stable. I went literally 6 weeks without being able to get above 4 and ended up in hospital quite poorly til they withdrew all insulin. My Dr literally when I was complaining I wanted to go home said "look, I'm going to be honest with you, we expect to come in and find you dead in your bed at this point so you need to be here" I was like " well when you put it like that....FINE!" 😂 I have so much anxiety about insulin now because of that, and the stuff on top of that it's just a lot! So any tips and advice massively welcome! Love your channel X

Mary, with respect I think you went through that scary part way too fast. In fact in my opinion this needs its own video. First, let me say I AM NOT a diabetic. I am however friends with several men who are. One such man is also an epileptic and for some reason, his blood glucose can trigger seizures. I was with him one day about 5 years ago at his Doctors Office. Before I picked him up he ate breakfast and over bolused before he ate. By the time we got to the Clinic as we were walking in he went right into a full-on Tonic-Clonic seazure. One of the nurses came outside and helped me with him. She stick-tested him after he recovered and his blood sugar was 45. Then the man went into status epilepticus and at almost the same time I could hear the ambulance coming the nurse injected him with glucagon just before his 2nd seizure started. The look of fear in that man's eyes was something I will never forget. I am not a doctor or a CDE, but I have heard that diabetes EVEN under control still is causing damage to the human body. Diabetes affects ALL the organs. It is scary. Diabetes is NOT funny. Having A1Cs much over 7 is playing dangerous games with your health.
If you dońt have it, dońt pretend you know. This kid is making light of it because it´s nasty and people need hope and normality. If anyone is in doubt, go get medical advice. But dońt pretend to understand if you dońt have it - you can’t
