Everyone always acts like diabetes is such an easy illness to treat cause you just “need to make insulin” but it’s literally so ridiculously complicated and exhausting. The burnout is so real, but it’s nice to watch other people deal with it too and feel less alone in the struggle.
Fr! My friend always tells me "oh well asthma is so much harder, you just need to take insulin" but no. It's super complicated and she never believes me when I tell her that.
Thank you for this video! My boyfriend, who is also type 1, did not know about the 'carbs - fiber' thing and had to Google it after I mentioned it to him. He has been diabetic for 19 years now and you taught him something new! Please continue making these types of videos. Much love! 💛
Apparently, non-soluble fiber slows down the absorption of carbs and reduces after meal spikes ; it doesn't change the overall carbs that are consumed. So, some people find they have better control if they adjust their insulin dose at meals to take this under consideration but consider carbs as a whole for daily dosage.
I got diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 2 weeks ago, and since then I have been depressed, stressed, and anxious about what to do what to eat, and how to manage everything. So thank you for making videos about the illness and how to control it.
You can do this! Just keep going my friend. Stay close to your doctors and your support team, such as dietitians/nutritionists and other people. Absorb as much as you can and really do your research. You can do this, and you have millions of people around the world who understand exactly what you are going through. You are not alone. You can do this!

Diabetes being like a video game that you can't win sounds SO INCREDIBLY ACCURATE! I've been classified as being diabetic for almost 12 years (initially classified as type 2 but reclassified as LADA- latent autoimmune diabetes in adults 4 years ago). Like you're not really going to win over life but rolling with the punches from the illnesses that are thrown at you is certainly one way to avoid long-term consequences of the unwinnable "video game" (lol).

I have been on it now for over 2 years and everything has been going great. I also use freestyle libre 3 for my sensor and i have an amazing endocrinologist. If you're having problems controlling your sugars i would talk with your endocrinologist and do research on different devices and insulin to help you better.
I hate when I have to test ketones because the first three look the same! I love your energy! I swear I could prob be your daughter because of our looks and energy!❤❤❤❤
I’m diabetic also on background insulin and fast acting on libre 2 , but I find if I hit the 4’s I get so sweaty and shaky , also new thing for me was fainting so that unlocked new fear for me ! Love ur videos makes me feel not alone
Hi Mary, UR soo funny! ❤your videos. Been T1D for 43 years now. Changing to Omnipod 5 in about 1 month - after I swore never to use a pump anymore in the 90ies. Can't wait to get rid of those f*** hypos. You inspired me to organize my T1D-equipment. I'm so proud of you presenting of our common disease and struggles. Please keep going. 😘
I would be curious what tools you have to track and correlate all of the data between the dexcom, omnipod, strip tests, what you’re eating, injections, how you’re feeling. I can’t believe with all of the machine learning technology we have there aren’t better systems for helping track what you’re doing and find ways to improve and make it easier.
Thank you for sharing. I have Hypoglycemia and my dr told me that I might be needing a insulin pump and super nervous :( this gives me some hope seeing someone's day to day life.
Oh my gosh, when your low alert went off in the background there was like a good 10 second window where I started feeling the symptoms I get when I go low, which I found funny because my blood sugar is actually high right now.
Diabetes truly is merciless. I can remember walking in a mall and then desperately needing a Coke from a kiosk. Then next thing I knew, I was in a hospital stretcher with blood in my hair, headed for the hospital. Ugh. I recovered, with a laceration of the skull.
I have been a type 1 diabetic for 36 years now and there is NO WAY I would go out for a walk if my sugar level was 4! When I leave my friends house to walk home I always check my level before I leave and If its too low I always eat my jaffa cakes (which I always take with me when I go to my friends place) so it gets to a safer level before I walk back home (at least 6/7) and that way I wont go too low. Being a diabetic is a real pain i know but at least I have good control over it, but there a lot of times that I wish I didnt have it but I try to stay positive and know there are worst things to have.
If Im using my omnipod pump, I drop my nasal to near 0. This isn’t possible if using long acting / short acting multiple daily injections, so I need to eat lots of carbs.
Hi! I am a t1d who is a similar age to you ( I think lol) I’m 21 and I had it for a few years I recently started using the Omnipod which I didn’t like at first. And your video came across and it made me feel more comfortable!❤️🙏🏽 I love feeling not alone
make a video of you like reviewing all the diabetes devices and mobile applications and stuff you used since your diagnosis i one of the first followers on tiktok before you had your dexcom luvv you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I've been type 1 for over 40 years. Last 2.5 years I've got the libre2 cgm. Next best thing to a cure is a cgm. But testing ketones, whats that about, never done that in the 40 years 😄 Having the tattoo is a great idea. I've just got a leeds united tattoo 😬
As a none diabetic person I won't even be able to understand what you're all going through but I've worked in bioseneor and monitoring research and along with AI the sensors and pumps coming out in the neat future will almost literally make blood sugar monitoring autonomous/automatic. I know its not a cure but until we get there these will make your lives much simpler.
Watching this as my dexcom finally warmed up and I'm apparently on 3.9 whoops 😅😅 (I got hypo-unawareness (tested and diagnosed) so I feel fine but I'm sittin my butt down and watch your video on while drinkin my juice)
Instead of noodles in your lasagna replace with slices of squash and or zucchini. Tastes great and has a lot less carbs. I can eat 2 servings and take NO insulin for the actual lasagna.
Honestly: I really don't like Tattoo's to be on my body, but as a diabetic it toally makes sense and I would do that also, if something ever would happen in a situation i couldn't explain someone what's going on :)
yeah it really isn’t as easy as people say. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and it’s pretty hard. I was also kinda confused the whole video cause I use mg/dL not mmo/L 😀
According to my doctor, the glucose sensors measures differently than the glucose meters. The meter measures the glucose in your blood while the sensor, if I remember correctly, measures the glucose between cells? I don't remember, I'm new to sensors too 😅
Your sensor reading always lags behind your blood glucose reading from pricking your finger and sometimes your sensor reading can lie by up to 20%, so always check with a finger stick if you feel you might be going low. The finger prick is more accurate. By checking she is confirming that she really is going low. What she does not say is that she can use that accurate reading to figure out how much juice to drink so she does not overcorrect and wind up on what we call the diabetic roller coaster.
Question if you ever see it. As a fellow type one and omnipod/Dexcom user, is there any kind of schedule that’s you follow for changes? I’ve noticed that in a lot of your shorts you seem to do a lot of changes (of the pod) at work or during the day. I am curious because I generally change my devices in the evening and try to keep it consistent. The way that it comes across from your shorts seems a little chaotic to me at least. Just curious if there’s a method to the apparent madness
I am struggling with low blood sugar and specially in public areas and I am trying to learn hacks for it. Normally my symptoms I get are. Blurry vision , dizziness, disorientated , I feel hyper(crazy) and shaky as well as emotional. I finally bought juice boxes and salty foods with protein bars and stuff. But this is newer to me. So any advice for low blood sugar would help. I got blood work done to see what my numbers are but it’s hypoglycemia for me
Do you know how many litters a day you usually urinate, and how many litter of water you drink? I am asking because my case is strange. I urinate each 1-2 hours and in total between 1.7 - 2.3L a day but my glucose level is within normal limits even after meal. Moreover, in the morning my glucose is higher than in the middle of the day but is still within normal range (at least for now).
So how does everyone deal with people who don't understand diabetes and freak out? I had a low at work in front of everyone for the first time (52 so it was pretty low for me) and I ended up having to sit down against a wall for a bit while I waited for the juice to kick in. Everyone freaked out and even though I explained I was fine, I still had people call my supervisor, call the school nurse, call half the teachers, and one try to call an ambulance before the nurse told them i'm fine and to leave me alone. I don't enjoy a lot of attention being on me and everyone is really jumpy around me now even though I've explained that its just something that happens and its nothing to freak out over unless I'm the one panicking
Hello Mary, I really didn't get how you figured out the carb count for the lasagna portion from the nutrition facts on the box. When I search for lasagna on cronometer, it says: 30g of carbs for 100g lasagna. So I just put my portion on the scale and I know. I don't know if it will help, I just wish you don't mind me explaining. Thx for the video.

The dexcom going off for the low in the background got me shook thinking it was me

Is it possible for a diabetic to still experience unquenchable thirst even after they are taking insulin?
Yes, every time the sugar is higher than 250.
That tattoo is really smart.
I've been type 1 for over 40 years. Last 2.5 years I've got the libre2 cgm. Next best thing to a cure is a cgm. But testing ketones, whats that about, never done that in the 40 years 😄
Having the tattoo is a great idea.
I also have type 1 diabetes and I hate waking up and eating in the morning and I agree it is like a game and I had diabetes for three years
Hey girly I would like for you to do a video on your thought about people without diabetes using Ozempic for personalize weight loss
that may not be her forte because Ozempic is for type 2 Diabetics and she is type 1
Watching this as my dexcom finally warmed up and I'm apparently on 3.9 whoops 😅😅 (I got hypo-unawareness (tested and diagnosed) so I feel fine but I'm sittin my butt down and watch your video on while drinkin my juice)
Did you calibrate straight after warm up because my endo said to do that
Instead of noodles in your lasagna replace with slices of squash and or zucchini. Tastes great and has a lot less carbs. I can eat 2 servings and take NO insulin for the actual lasagna.
SLAY QUEEN..I HAVE DIABETES TYPE 1 ALSOOO!!..WE CAN DO THIS YEAHH,🎉
Honestly: I really don't like Tattoo's to be on my body, but as a diabetic it toally makes sense and I would do that also, if something ever would happen in a situation i couldn't explain someone what's going on :)
If I'm high and no ketones I generally get super hungry. Add that with the usual grumpiness of being high and I get so hangry
In a video can you give some if the pros & cons of the dexcom & insulin pump you use? Thanks
Can you talk about the differences between type1 & type 2
yeah it really isn’t as easy as people say. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and it’s pretty hard. I was also kinda confused the whole video cause I use mg/dL not mmo/L 😀
Q from a type 2 non- insulin dependent: if you are wearing a dexcom, why do you test your glucose so frequently?
There is an up to 30% difference as one tests blood one tests the fluid
According to my doctor, the glucose sensors measures differently than the glucose meters. The meter measures the glucose in your blood while the sensor, if I remember correctly, measures the glucose between cells? I don't remember, I'm new to sensors too 😅
@@Shiacchi Tests the fluid under the skin rather than the blood itself
Your sensor reading always lags behind your blood glucose reading from pricking your finger and sometimes your sensor reading can lie by up to 20%, so always check with a finger stick if you feel you might be going low. The finger prick is more accurate. By checking she is confirming that she really is going low. What she does not say is that she can use that accurate reading to figure out how much juice to drink so she does not overcorrect and wind up on what we call the diabetic roller coaster.
Love your videos
When ever I change my Dexcom I always try and check my Blood Sugar every single time.
You getting the dexcom G7
Cuz i got it and I’ve only had diabetes for a month-
I met a great girl. She told me she is diabetic type 1 though.
I'm contemplating now if we have a future at all? Harsh but true...
me: watching a horror movie and getting high bs, me bolusing to then become low.. me.. over eats = gets high again = t1d
Hi, I am a type 1 too, I have been doing this for 1 year.
Very hard working experience Sense being a kid
i was wondering why i havent been posting on tt and i was like oh lets check yt and sure enough there ya are 😅😅😅🎉❤❤❤❤
Bout to join yall soon 😅
Question if you ever see it. As a fellow type one and omnipod/Dexcom user, is there any kind of schedule that’s you follow for changes? I’ve noticed that in a lot of your shorts you seem to do a lot of changes (of the pod) at work or during the day. I am curious because I generally change my devices in the evening and try to keep it consistent. The way that it comes across from your shorts seems a little chaotic to me at least. Just curious if there’s a method to the apparent madness
Could you do a changing my basal rates video?
You help me because i have a very high chance of diabetes, so if i ever have to do this i can watch you
I am struggling with low blood sugar and specially in public areas and I am trying to learn hacks for it. Normally my symptoms I get are. Blurry vision , dizziness, disorientated , I feel hyper(crazy) and shaky as well as emotional. I finally bought juice boxes and salty foods with protein bars and stuff. But this is newer to me. So any advice for low blood sugar would help. I got blood work done to see what my numbers are but it’s hypoglycemia for me
Love your videos x
Can you explain the readings with decimal numbers? I know of a1C readings like that, but from a meter?
Do you know how many litters a day you usually urinate, and how many litter of water you drink? I am asking because my case is strange. I urinate each 1-2 hours and in total between 1.7 - 2.3L a day but my glucose level is within normal limits even after meal. Moreover, in the morning my glucose is higher than in the middle of the day but is still within normal range (at least for now).
Forearm dexcom? Did the sensor keep hurting as you move your arm around?
Makeup and grwm
