Shanti is a very interesting character tbh. She's a perfect foil to Mowgli in the sequel. What's interesting about this encounter is how, as it was with Mowgli, her personality plays into her being entranced. She's been raised to be a perfect obedient daughter who never questions authority AND she's so dependent on her comfort zone that she is absolutely terrified of the jungle simply because of how unpredictable wildlife can be. In fact, in her deleted solo song, "Braver" (which should have stayed in the film), she heavily implies that the reason she went after Mowgli alone is because she wanted to prove to herself that she's brave enough to overcome adversity. And this encounter is essentially Shanti's exposure therapy. Her worst nightmare coming true. Because after this scene, she is more confident in the jungle.
But speaking of the scene itself, it's interesting that her obedient mindset is what allows Kaa to not just control her, but practically puppeteer her. Beautiful dreams are flooding into her mind and she can't seem to bear closing her eyes, as indicated at 4:47 with the "please don't go" look.
Although Shanti is very intelligent and mature, she simply lacks Mowgli's iron will and is not able to give a speck of resistance as a result. And when she falls to the ground, we see that she is so incredibly entranced that it takes several seconds for her to wake up.
I also find it interesting that Kaa is more sadistic to Shanti than he ever was to Mowgli. He brushes back her hair as if he's admiring her beauty and then whispers into her ear that he's going to eat her.
Honestly, Mowgli and Shanti and their relationship were the best things about this movie. It was great seeing their character development.

For me the best part of this is that she's so deep in trance that she's still grinning ear to ear after she's flung to the ground, granted she stirs right after but that's only because Kaa isn't focused on her anymore and she can hear her little brother

It wasn't her brother that saved her. It was Rajin who was Mowgli's stepbrother

It sucks that this has to be the last analysis video you do, but this is by far my favorite one you've done. Absolutely fantastic work on this ^^

Also I can understand your frustration with the other aspects of this scene, fair enough, but I really am glad you still did an analysis, it's my favourite Kaa scene. I'd love to see you do an analysis of say other characters in fiction and how they'd fare against Kaa (who would be more resistant etc)

Shanti prevents the child from continuing to hit Kaa, since somehow, some of what she felt when she was in a trance, remained inside her...

Yeah, they did not do Kaa justice in this sequel, which is why I prefer his portrayal in the original film from 1967.

I recognize that it is a bad film, but I think it has more redeeming qualities than most Disney sequels.

@@karimion2157 I don't see it as a bad film, myself. I think it's one of the best of all the Disney sequels, honestly. But to each their own. :)

    • @karimion2157
      @karimion2157 Місяць тому

@@goldenheart9503 I mean, it is pretty rushed and it more or less repeats the same conflict of the original and it has only one good song and Baloo regresses to his hedonistic old self even though he learned so much about responsibility in the first film. Plus, Ranjan and Lucky were annoying asf. They should have used the original movie's early drafts as inspiration, where Buldeo the hunter forces Mowgli to lead him to a treasure chamber. Granted, that would mean Baloo would have a smaller role, but at least it would have a fresher story. They even could have had Buldeo as Shanti's stepfather.
That being said, the movie had good animation, voice acting and it did a very great job developing Mowgli and Shanti. And gave them very organic chemistry and a beautiful relationship. Seriously, they're probably the healthiest Disney couple in history.
The movie is not as bad as Hunchback 2, Return of Jafar or Mulan 2, but it's not as good as Lion King 2, Aladdin 3 and Cinderella 3.

Hey, I gotta ask, is there any chance you might do an analysis of Kaa and Mowgli in House of Mouse? Because after seeing you do analysis videoes with Kaa encounters besides the movies that I never thought anyone would do, could you also do that one? I'm definitely curious

Yeah Kaa seems very unconcerned about the Red Flower compared to Khan who fears it and Louis who is obsessive over it.

I think it’s because he knew she wouldn't be able to use it once she's hypnotized. Plus, he noticed how terrified she was and would be easy prey.
