Reading this made me realize Kaa might be the only one in the jungle able to make mowgli behave instead of being stubborn or bratty. I wonder why the poor things mental defenses are so easy to break.
Exactly! That's another thing that makes these so appealing to me, the fact he's the only one who can humble him. I wouldn't say his defences are easy to break, especially compared to Bagheera, and, later on, Shanti.
1:07 Knowing Kaa’s looking at Mowgli as his meal with the grumpy mancub being none the wiser definitely makes this scene much more delicious 😋 Love the commentary!
Love the analysis! It’s so obvious how much higher up on the food chain Kaa is. So much so, Kaa toys with him, showing him a mercy no other predator in the jungle would. Really like the frame rate you used too, would be really cool to see the whole 1st encounter like that
Thank you so much! I absolutely adore your edits, is there a place to chat with you? Would love to exchange ideas. As for the frame rate, this is a conversion to 60fps someone made, it's here: tarolewd.github.io/kaarchive/#/videos/fanart/halley
@@twanandersen Yup. It's one of the things I admire about Mowgli. He's not only brave, but he's very determined and headstrong. Of course, he has his limits as shown in the second encounter where he fell into a trance immediately because of his fragile spirit and depression after he felt betrayed by Baloo.
@@vetarlittorf1807 If Shanti had found him earlier in the second movie I think Mowgli would have been able to be her protector since he knows the jungle and Kaa’s tricks so well and is a little older and wiser than he was here. And judging by how Ranjan reacted he definitely takes after his adopted big brother even if he does get out of hand with carrying out the protection thing.
@@elsakristina2689 Indeed. The second movie even showed that Mowgli would rather die than let anything bad happen to Shanti. And Shanti faced her worst nightmare just to help Mowgli. They are truly meant for each other.
I know I am most definitely in the minority on this, but I am personally glad Mowgli got through both of his encounters with Kaa without getting eaten. Can't explain why, but I always found him easy to root and cheer for, maybe because he was the first jungle boy I was introduced to. Having said that, it's always intriguing to see these different commentary videos on the Kaa encounters, and I would advocate that this was one of the best interpretations of the first encounter, if not the best.
And that's perfectly fine, haha! I personally feel the opposite, but it's a combination of him being a brat and some self-inserting in said situation that makes me prefer a Kaa victory. I really appreciate your compliment on this video, though, I'm really humbled that people enjoyed it that much!
@@twanandersen Indeed. To each his own. Personally, I never saw Mowgli as a brat or a moron (as I know tons of people have called him). To me, he was always a character I felt sympathy for. We, the audience, may know that leaving the jungle is for his own good and safety. But from his perspective, he's being told to leave behind everything he ever knew, and that's hard to ask of anyone, especially his age. I doubt I would have reacted differently myself if put in his position. In any case, thank you for your honest and respectful reply. I should probably make this my only reply, since I wouldn't want to cause any arguments or anything like that. So I'll just wish you luck with any future projects you choose to pursue. Considering how good your commentary was for Mowgli's first Kaa encounter was, I especially liked the bit about how strong Mowgli must be to push Kaa's coils off the tree, I am sure you would knock it out of the park if you decided to do a video about the second encounter as well.
@@nathanielgrindstaff4909I understand perfectly :) I just released a new video, even though it's not the one you wished for, but I hope you'll have a look anyway.
I think I can enjoy both the scene from both perspectives. I do like to imagine Mowgli running out of luck and getting eaten by Kaa, just for the fun of it, but realistically I don't want to see the boy meet his end like that. Mowgli is a kid, so it's only natural that he behaves immaturely sometimes. It's not his fault that Kaa wants to make a meal out of him, but I think his overconfidence and naivety make him a more vulnerable prey in the scene. Him getting hypnotized and nearly eaten proves that he's not as capable as he thought, but he managed to survive the encounter and hopefully learn from the experience
Well fantastic work Loved thebway you touched on the Jungle Cubs things and the idea of animals and Humans eyes oulsing differently. That was interesting and I never thought of it before. Great job
Man I wish I was in Mowgli’s position rn, I’d give anything to be wrapped up in Kaa’s warm coils, staring into those swirling eyes and being serenaded by that sweet serpentine voice 🥰 god I love Kaa so much fr, my favourite Disney villain alongside Jafar and Prince John 💖 you can’t beat the classics 😊
If we assume that Kaa's hypnosis is more effective the more his prey is subjected to authority, then, ironically, he would be very effective against the most powerful and combat-trained humans. For example, if some sort of government decides to hunt him down one day. Since police/military officers are by nature very obedient and servile, they would be hypnotized in no time by Kaa and obey his every command. Kaa could then create his own army while eating some of them to strengthen himself. In my opinion, he's even more powerful and dangerous to mankind than Sher Khan.

Watching Kaa move about in 60fps is so hypnotic just by itself 😵💫👌

His tail wrapping around Mowgli, oof 😵💫 The cub had no chance

Great job on analyzing Kaa and Mowgli’s first encounter really enjoyed it 👍❤️
I think Mowgli is able to resist the hypnosis because he's so strong-willed.

One really interesting thing is how, in the original book, Kaa isn’t an Antagonist. That’s the VENOMOUS snakes…
