I have this record, but haven't listened to it for many years. This is my favorite song off that record and one of my favorite songs period. Tim O'brien is one of those amazing musicians that for some reason has never attained the national status of so many much lessor talents. Maybe that's a good thing, but nonetheless, hard to understand. I'll be pulling this old one out to revisit for a while. Absolutely perfect!
Just bumbed into tim with my daughter a while back and when we got home took out a few of tims albums to show her played this song and we danced brilliant thank u tim great memory
I too am in my twilight years it sure brings back great memories when I was a young man with the love of my life by my sided and as the song says If I could do it all over I would still do it all over again
You know how sometimes when you listen to a song a few times you start to hear some of the blips and mistakes you missed at first? Not so with this man... it just gets better each time you hear it.
Che meravigliosa canzone!! Un perfetto lento da ballare abbracciati alla propria compagna...è gia` la quarta volta che la ascolto di fila...fa volare i sentimenti.....
Great song and video that tells so beautifully, everything that's in my heart today! But I will say it one more time just like I used to do ... I love you!
Thank you so much for posting one of my favorite songs. With Mary Chapin Carpenter and Mark O'Connor joining Tim O'Brien, this is my favorite performance of it, too!
This isn't just a few "extra" players helping out. This is Mark O'Connor's "American Music Shop" - a TV series that ran for four years in the 1990s. There's Mark O'Connor, Jerry Douglas and Handsome Harry Stinson (on drums - who now works with Marty Stewart as one of the "Fabulous Superlatives.")
You'd be hard pressed to find two more talented musicians than Jerry Douglas and Mark O'Connor. These guys make my heart go all a'flutter. All the better when they are backing up a vocalist as good as TOB.
I had that album, but I loaned it to a friend that used to sing as a sideline. Sadly, he died too young, but my albums stayed in his house... Still, I always loved his singing, so I don 't mind.
There was a time when we''d be the last to leave Watching the sun come up while everyone fell asleep The music was always loud and I"d smoke and drink too much Until IÂ'd fall in your arms and into your lovin" touch Now as the years roll by, time has reeled me in And I''ve slowed down a notch or two from the way things were then And those old ways of mine, I''ve left them behind Those crazy days are through The only thing I still do like I used to do Is carry this torch for you Remember the days when we"d pack our bags and run Chasing some crazy dream into the morning sun Now as the twilight falls, I find I''m satisfied Watching the fire glow as long as you"re by my side Here in my heart it seems, time has passed me by And I love you as much today as the very first time And those old ways of mine, I"ve left them behind Those crazy days are through The only thing I still do like I used to do Is carry this torch for you I still want you the way I wanted you then If I could do it all over, I''d do it all over again And those old ways of mine, I"ve left them behind Those crazy days are through The only thing I still do like I used to do Is carry this torch for you The only thing I still do like I used to do Is carry this torch for you Songwriters: Patrick Alger / Timothy Page O'brien
His voice is phenomenal , I can't believe that I never heard of Tim O'Brien before,it is the very first time I heard him! I cannot believe he never went on to Superstar status . And I LOVE this song! The lyrics are beautiful and what a beautiful dance tune! God bless you Tim O'Brien, that song is on top of my list!xoxo

Brings back memories mee and my we wife miss her so much
My late wife loved this tune. My brother and I sang it at her memorial service.

-Sigh- The good old days when live music could be found on television any day of the week. Miss TNN every day.
I do, too. This show, "The American Music Shop," was great every week.
What a lovely song, and a perfect performance.
Just bumbed into tim with my daughter a while back and when we got home took out a few of tims albums to show her played this song and we danced brilliant thank u tim great memory
One of sweetest songs ever!

What a perfect song and a perfect performance...I am indeed getting old and nostalgic

love this song. I listen to it repeatedly. Tim is a wonderful talent.
WOW!!! I was there for this taping. Great, sweet love song written by Tim O'Brien and Pat Alger. So glad to have found this.
not written by TO'B .
took the words try out of my mouth couldn't be in a better place at 73 years old

Great song and video that tells so beautifully, everything that's in my heart today!
But I will say it one more time just like I used to do ... I love you!
astounding voice..ive picked 23 of the past 24 who went on to super stardom..and cant get over this phenomenal talent not being there with them,,
He can't believe it either...
Couldn't agree more.
@@drr1083 He is in a class of his own! Never to be compared to the top 40 mass produced!
How beautiful!

And Jerry Douglas on dobro!

I recall, as a young musician, living this song!
My favorite from 94 !
This song still breaks my heart whenever I hear it. It is a tune most of us can relate to and Tim sings it with such feeling, as he does everything.
Tears....

There was a time when we'd be the last to leave
Watching the sun come up while everyone fell asleep
The music was always loud and I'd smoke and drink too much
Until I'd fall in your arms and into your lovin' touch
Now as the years roll by, time has reeled me in
I've slowed down a notch or two from the way things were then
Those old ways of mine, I've left them behind
Those crazy days are through
The only thing I still do like I used to do
Is carry this torch for you
Remember the days when we'd pack our bags and run
Chasing a crazy dream into the morning sun
Now as the twilight falls, I find I'm satisfied
Watching the fire glow as long as you're by my side
Here in my heart it seems, time has passed me by
I love you as much today as the very first time
Those old ways of mine, I've left them behind
Those crazy days are through
The only thing I still do like I used to do
Is carry this torch for you
I still want you the way I wanted you then
If I could do it all over, I'd do it all over again

Those crazy days are through
The only thing I still do like I used to do
Is carry this torch for you

Just....WOW...!!!
John Starling (RIP) of the original Seldom Scene recorded a wonderful version of this song.
Great? It was fantastic, of course it didn't hurt that JD sang tenor.
For some reason, is feeling nostalgic

Tim O'Brien is a bluegrass sensation, his band is called Hot Rize google it, they are awesome!!
Tim O'Brien ... one top class musician and singer.
I have an hour before I go to bed. just thinking of you. like yesterday and the day before. I have an hour before I go to bed.
I would bet, up to a dime, that its Mark O'
Jerry Douglas in there too…? What a great song & performance.
I don’t believe that’s Jerry playing. Whoever it is plays well.
@@rgbart01it is Jerry Douglas
Love the music, but Tim's hair made me chuckle. Kind of looks like the kid from Eight is Enough.
Sounds something like a young John Denver.
Who's the guitar player sitting down? Looks kind of like Mark OConner, but I don't think that's who it is?
It is indeed Mark.
Mark won Winfield prior to taking up the fiddle. He has said that he won't do the guitar thing any more since the callouses interfere with this fiddle playing. Probably a good choice. Doesn't Tim look young?
I think this was taped in 1990, correct me if I'm wrong, 29 years ago. Wow !

who's the pretty lady sing back-up? good song
Mary Chapin Carpenter
Mary Chapin Carpenter
The brilliant Mary- Chapin Capenter
Mary Chapin Carpenter ,she is a brilliant song writer and wonderful singer , love everything she does x
What is the instrument Tim is playing? 8 tuners, 8 strings, plays it and sounds like a guitar.
It’s a custom nugget Bouzouki.
A hybrid octave mandolin/Bouzouki with a guitar style body
Here, Tim is far too young to be singing this song!
Great song , though.
