This song always strikes a heartfelt chord in my every time I hear this played. Wonderful musician and singer one of my favorites!!
Great singer,great song😃.
finest show ever on television. Love everyone on this stage in this video.
Beautiful lyrics and performance,thanks Tim.
Oh my goodness I love her so much!!!!!! ❤
Tim and Hot Rize version was so much better.
"Soldier's Joy"
Thank you so much Tim! Thank you, very grateful for your talents and contribution! Much love!
Dang
Tears....
What a great song and performance
took the words try out of my mouth couldn't be in a better place at 73 years old
Crazy this guy wrote this and pussy hat. What a fall from grace
Sounds something like a young John Denver.
Brings back memories mee and my we wife miss her so much
My late wife loved this tune. My brother and I sang it at her memorial service.
Great cover, great singing by all. I love this song!
Kickin' version... LOVE LOVE LOVE MCC!
Jerry Douglas in there too…? What a great song & performance.
I don’t believe that’s Jerry playing. Whoever it is plays well.
@@rgbart01it is Jerry Douglas
She is awesome!! What a talent!!
This just might be the best version of this song she's done!
I have this record, but haven't listened to it for many years. This is my favorite song off that record and one of my favorite songs period. Tim O'brien is one of those amazing musicians that for some reason has never attained the national status of so many much lessor talents. Maybe that's a good thing, but nonetheless, hard to understand. I'll be pulling this old one out to revisit for a while. Absolutely perfect!
Love this song and Tim’s voice
I too am in my twilight years it sure brings back great memories when I was a young man with the love of my life by my sided and as the song says If I could do it all over I would still do it all over again
What is the instrument Tim is playing? 8 tuners, 8 strings, plays it and sounds like a guitar.
It’s a custom nugget Bouzouki. A hybrid octave mandolin/Bouzouki with a guitar style body
That Bass Players Really Into It
How beautiful!
God Bless all that died, may they all RIP in the arms of the Lord.
Love that song since the first time I heard it...1990, Mary was awesome
A stellar talent - but underappreciated. And her backup band is first-rate, too!
I love this woman's music. Such a talented singer, song writer and musician. Mary Chapin is the reigning Queen of Country Folk Music.
This song still breaks my heart whenever I hear it. It is a tune most of us can relate to and Tim sings it with such feeling, as he does everything.
Such a wonderful singer, songwriter and guitarist. Great hit version of a Roger Linn/Rob Royer song that MCC makes her own.
There was a time when we''d be the last to leave Watching the sun come up while everyone fell asleep The music was always loud and I"d smoke and drink too much Until IÂ'd fall in your arms and into your lovin" touch Now as the years roll by, time has reeled me in And I''ve slowed down a notch or two from the way things were then And those old ways of mine, I''ve left them behind Those crazy days are through The only thing I still do like I used to do Is carry this torch for you Remember the days when we"d pack our bags and run Chasing some crazy dream into the morning sun Now as the twilight falls, I find I''m satisfied Watching the fire glow as long as you"re by my side Here in my heart it seems, time has passed me by And I love you as much today as the very first time And those old ways of mine, I"ve left them behind Those crazy days are through The only thing I still do like I used to do Is carry this torch for you I still want you the way I wanted you then If I could do it all over, I''d do it all over again And those old ways of mine, I"ve left them behind Those crazy days are through The only thing I still do like I used to do Is carry this torch for you The only thing I still do like I used to do Is carry this torch for you Songwriters: Patrick Alger / Timothy Page O'brien
Absolutely beautiful and very beautifully done!!👏👍🛐✝️🌹🌹✝️✝️🛐💕💗💓🎆🇺🇸🔯🕎🔯🕎❤️🌄
Hello Butch.. Stii have my 1905 F2 Presentation. Will soon be listed. Check out mandolin archives.com serial number 4259.
Boy, she was/is incredibly pretty
Yes, and MCC is very striking in person as well.
Good ole days
Chris does such a great job with this song...
This is from the album, Odd Man In, one of the best country/bluegrass albums of the 1990s.
You guys should record this so I can download it
Wait.. this is not Halo Reach
we really love this song
Dad leading the girls astray?
Tight harmony, great job!
John Starling (RIP) of the original Seldom Scene recorded a wonderful version of this song.
Great? It was fantastic, of course it didn't hurt that JD sang tenor.
Just....WOW...!!!
Love Tim. Love Mary. Red On Blonde!
I recall, as a young musician, living this song!
What a lovely song, and a perfect performance.
One of sweetest songs ever!
Thank you so much for posting one of my favorite songs. With Mary Chapin Carpenter and Mark O'Connor joining Tim O'Brien, this is my favorite performance of it, too!
And Jerry Douglas on dobro!
This isn't just a few "extra" players helping out. This is Mark O'Connor's "American Music Shop" - a TV series that ran for four years in the 1990s. There's Mark O'Connor, Jerry Douglas and Handsome Harry Stinson (on drums - who now works with Marty Stewart as one of the "Fabulous Superlatives.")
You'd be hard pressed to find two more talented musicians than Jerry Douglas and Mark O'Connor. These guys make my heart go all a'flutter. All the better when they are backing up a vocalist as good as TOB.
