Age 73 and this song takes me back to my teens and tears come. Getting to the end now and the music of my youth brings on the memories of a day gone by..love this stuff
Me too, girl! Exactly. Tears of history. My dad gave me a guitar fir Christmas when I was seventeen, (now seventy-five!), and said "Just don't turn in to a Joanne Bez"! She, Baez, was a radical woman folk-singer. Ah, my people!⚠️🎸(Why is their no acoustic guitar icon in my iPhone??)
Wym. Joan Baez has been very busy. Her sister Mimi singing music too. Mary Chapin Carpenter very blessed and busy too. Lotta folk music if you like sad songs too. Troubadours of the folk era " is good , id you like folk music. Judy Collins, Ian and Sylvia. John Denver. I don't remember much else. The songs are too much sad. Brandy carlile before they won a Grammy is kinda like folk. Have a nice day
This is so profound. Such depth and emotion in this song. It’s so beautiful to watch Joan step back and let Mary shine. Their harmony is surreal. Very few can match Joan’s rich deep voice. Mary is just perfect for that and the third voice is so exponentially profound that it gives me the chills. Just brilliant.
I appreciate your comments and pretty much could not have said it better however, I don’t know, some thing about this didn’t sit right with me. At first I thought not enough rehearsal the two voices just we’re almost there but didn’t quite make it for me! Too tentative and didn’t really lock in I attribute this to not enough rehearsal. Just because two people are fabulous doesn’t mean that they can lock in together unless they work at it and I think the work went undone. The performance should not be the rehearsal time and that’s what this seems like to me. Please excuse me for expressing this I’m not trying to negate anything you said but it was my take on how this song struck me. As a singer musician the subtleties did not match for me. Peace
I return to watch this video frequently. Joan Baez and Mary Chapin Carpenter singing this beautiful Donovan song together always brings tears to my eyes. Ah, when Mimi sang this with Joan was so very special too. Such a heartfelt song by beautiful Donovan who I have had a crush on forever.
What a treat to have a good audio/video record of not only how gorgeous Baez's voice is but how incredibly generous she is to share the stage and spotlight with others. A monumental soloist, stellar team player. Thank you so much for sharing your gifts Joan.
This is a glorious collaboration!! Joan has always been an enormous talent and an inspiration to me and my love of folk music. I love what she represents in her music and her determination to help make this a better world for everyone. God bless you, Joan.
Thanks to my dad, there are more Joan Baez albums and CDs around here than I can count. One thing I am especially sad about now that he's gone is that he never got to see Joan in person. He loved her voice and her presence in this world gave him peace.
60 years on and Joan still knows how to make me cry. Thank you, Joan, for every one of those years enriched by your talent, compassion, and artistic discipline.
Two ever so precious souls. It must have been an honour to sing this very special song with Ms Baez. Who would gave thought a very young Chapin would have had the opportunity to sit at a piano as a young school girl teenager and sing a couple of songs with this gem of human being. I still smile at the twist of fate, or karma, as MCC's kind spirit and magnitude of humble talent would only seem right that they would become endearing colleagues and friends. Two treasures to behold. Fortunate to have seen them in concert together years back in Toronto as The Four Voices with the Indigo Girls.🇨🇦 🍁
It has been a while sense I have seen this precious video. Today is Thanksgiving day in America. I am grateful for the beautiful music that is in the World. Thank you Mary and Joan for your performance of this timeless classic.
This is one of the most beautiful love songs that reminds us that love is a feeling that is infinite, while we are just passing through this realm on a temporary basis but we can all dream love lasts forever.
I was entranced watching this awesome concert by Joan Baez and Mary Chapin Carpenter! It was an awe-inspiring experience! Thank you for sharing this! Peace, Brother Charlie
Beautiful song. I remember hearing your music in the early to mid nineties on a station called Young Country in Dallas, Texas. They played your music regularly. wish I could have the opportunity to meet you. You’re amazing 🥰
Beautifully sung by two of my favourite singers, written by the gentle Scottish singer/songwriter, Donovan, another of my favouritess. *Sigh* Delightful.
I am 71 and think much of the music of my early ages the best. I am biased, of course. But my students, so much younger also identified with this music. So, I place it in the category of remembrance, and worthy of it.
Some criticize Mary Chapin Carpenter for not playing lead guitar with her band. I think she is one of the finest guitar players in the singer -songwriter universe. Certainly she is the queen of alternate tunings. Wonderful rhythm and finger style, She more than holds her own solo
Here, let me fix that for you - Certainly -she- Joni Mitchell is the queen of alternate tunings. I like both of them, but Joni has about 50 guitar tunings she uses. Making it difficult to play her songs. But I see many standard guitar tunings of her songs are turning up on Ultimate Guitar. Catch the Wind I love and is easy to play on the guitar.
In the chilly hours and minutes of uncertainty I want to be in the warm heart of your loving mind To feel you all around me And to take your hand along the sand Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind When sundown pales the sky I want to hide a while behind your smile And everywhere I'd look, your eyes I'd find For me to love you now, would be the sweetest thing T'would make me sing Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind When rain has hung the leaves with tears I want you near, to kill my fears To help me to leave all my blues behind Standing in your heart is where I want to be And long to be Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind

I'm not a man of many words. Brings back my youth .I'm getting old now but the song makes me feel young again ❤
One of Donovan's first songs, and probably his absolute best, done by two of the greatest voices of the 20th century.
Donovan from the great city of Glasgow
And now the 21st century.

Absolutely. There were so many but this was his best!
@Joe Pollard - No question about it, this was a Masterpiece
What a pleasure it is to see these two performers do this wonderful song. It's pure gold to me, pure gold.

exactly often wondered how big Dylan would have got without her
True talent, two voices two guitars.......ahhhhhh Heaven 💖
Great version of a great song, and what a voice Mary Chapin Carpenter has👌
One of Donovan's best--written when he was still a teenager.
He doesn't get NEARLY the credit he deserves! Way better than Dillon, IMO, when it comes to poetry.
Beautiful music to smooth our troubled souls during this pandemic.....thank you!

Joan was a one in a lifetime. This duo is just perfection.
The guy had about 6-8 radio hits from ‘65-69. He was constantly on the charts. And one song like Catch the Wind only comes along once in a career.

Mary Chaplin Carpenter Joan Biez simply Beautiful.
😊😊 I'm very pleased to know I'm not the only one that loves the song but when last did you play it?
In the chilly hours and minutes of uncertainty
I want to be in the warm heart of your loving mind
To feel you all around me
And to take your hand along the sand
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind
When sundown pales the sky
I want to hide a while behind your smile
And everywhere I'd look, your eyes I'd find
For me to love you now, would be the sweetest thing
T'would make me sing
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind
When rain has hung the leaves with tears
I want you near, to kill my fears
To help me to leave all my blues behind
Standing in your heart is where I want to be
And long to be
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind
warm "hold" of..
Love both ladies and her arts very much. Fortunately I have seen them both at least once. Wish it would be more often.
