No lip synching here, this is a great performance!
Have loved this song from the first time that I heard it way back in '76. And I still to this day absolutely luv hearing this great tune. 👍
Massively underrated song. Incredible harmonies. Reminds me of the Bee-Gees.
Married in 1968...this was one of my husbands favorite songs. He's gone now and playing it makes good memories of a wonderful man❤
@judymcvey9005 This reminds me of my girlfriend when times
were better in the world. Amazing how certain songs remind me of the year it was popular and who is was with.
I also hope y’all will reply to this I don’t care what people say I like this song it’s great no rap no talking about killing people or raping or disrespecting women
I agree
Man! 47 years ago. Still a great song taking me back to a more wistful, romantic and hopeful time.
I saw the Starland Vocal Band and John Denver in concert at the Capital Center in 1976. I was 14 years old at the time. It was amazing - an experience I will never forget.
What a group and pure musical talents! Margot is a beast....
She's so beautiful
Absolutely loved them and still miss John Denver gone way too soon😢
How did they hold those incredibly tight harmonies without ear pieces? Even one of the Bee Gees had to at least block one ear to maintain form. Amazing vocalists!!
Great harmonies/voices. Especially the brown haired woman.
Yes, Margot Chapman was outstanding!
Was a great one-hit-wonder.... Takes us all back to simpler times, when America was great!!
You were allowed to smoke everywhere, but it was still amazing!
Sure, but concert tickets where I live (San Antonio) were about $6-7 dollars for big name bands! @@LKaramazov
Jimmy Carter was such a great guy, never so much freedom as then. Ronnie Raygun came along and wrecked everything.
@@johnnyz3073 ummmmm, eee-yeah
@@johnnyz3073please go to therapy.
Takes me right to the summer of 76. I moved with my family to the Bay area. I was 7. We explored new places, behind our house etc. It was one of my best moments then. It was heard a lot on the radio then.
I was 11 in 76 ,my dad give me a little transistor radio and this tune was always playing.. I like the 12 string..thanks
Brings back wonderful memories. I remember when this amazing song was released. 😊
Bill Danoff and Taffy Danoff nee Nivert, wrote "Take Me Home Country Roads" and "I Guess He'd Rather Be in Colorado" for John Denver.
ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS EVER WRITTEN.
Check them out singing this song on UA-cam (TJL productions) .... It's absolutely flawless and the production with the full band is awesome ❤
I saw a recent report that put it at number 1 of the worst songs ever recorded
A very unique song with amazing vocals.
At 2:09 the two girls sing that part alone, in that register, for the one and only time. I always used to wish they did it again but I now see the genius of that arrangement.
Great song. Even greater year 👍
I loved this song when i was 12 in 76 and i still do, and I'll always love John Denver xx
Great year in music 🎶
@randywilson944: Yes, IMO the best year ever in music!
I'm 120 years old and still listening to this.
I'm 155 years old, you're just a young whippersnapper.
MiliePost106. I feel 120 years old and listening , I love it❤
When America was Great!
On Denver's "Country Roads", that was Taffy singing soprano. She hit an astounding note in the chorus.
This truly brings back some fond memories of my youth loved this song so much at 8 years old excellent quality and way better than the garbagge that is out today
Still great to hear this song
Still loving this song! ❤
8th grade summer when I met my husband it was his song to me ❤
a treat to discover this harmonic gem.
I was 16 when this came out and I had huge crush on Margot Chapman! 😊❤
So did I......
Not a big fan of this particular song, but man oh man, did they write two of my favorite songs - "Country Roads" and "I Guess He'd Rather Be In Colorado".... Masterpieces!!!
What gorgeous voices all four of them have. A ripper of a song. Sham they didn't make money from it.
9 years old. Mom and Dad let me listen.
I don't know whether John Carrol remembers me....but our 1st. day at University of Miami CORAL GABLES, FLORIDA. AUGUST 4, 1974. WE MET ON CAMPUS. JOHN SPOKE ABOUT HIS LOVE FOR MUSIC....AND I SPOKE ABOUT MY LOVE FOR SURFING 😊
Gorgeous ladys❤❤❤❤❤😮
I was just in my first year in High School when this song came out in 1976... I remember the same buggy and bell-bottom pants I wore, the same hairstyle, and my first love... nothing compares to the melodies of yesteryears... love this song...
I hope y’all will reply to this I like them and John Denver…RIP John Denver
Love how the girls did a little dance in the middle of the song. Creative harmonies. Oh to be back living in the 70s again. Except for the Vietman War.
By 1976, when this song came out, US involvement in Vietnam had ended.
@@edwardcricchio6106 By about 4 years.
These girls sound excellent together they were the ones that made that song
Cute of them dancing with each other too during an instrumental. Loved hearing the flute too. Never heard it before
I was 3...i sont remember this song
.however spirit of 76' i do remember driving into Dallas from Frisco to buy a swing set that was red white and blue with a spirit of 76' theme. Had that swing set into the mid 80s
Great harmonies, the cutest sexiest song.. i loved this as a kid.. 💕
I always thought it was some sort of candy bar.. 😅
I'm still waiting for the Starland Vocal Band CD box set. I hear it has the death metal and gangsta rap versions of Afternoon Delight.
First time to see they perform this song live
You are so still are number one in the Afternoon Delight. Young and beyond. Love you all, forever. ❤👍
Greatest year of my life 1976
Class of 1976 ….
🎼🎸🎸🎸🎸
To get technical with you, you already graduated when this song became popular in the summer of 1976. It was my Class of '77 that was prepping for our senior year that could say it was a popular song for the class that September.
👍 Great song!
This is "PURE TALENT" at it's finest
Auto tune hasn't been born yet
With John Denver's seal of approval
You're guaranteed listening pleasure
thank you guys...
The opening lyrics gives me chills , so ahead of thier time ❤❤❤❤
I always thought that having a beer in the afternoon was better then waiting for dinner
I was 10 years old when the song came out in 1976
I was 17
@@Scott-ri2sy When USA is USA. Long live the constitutional republic
I love this beautiful song❤❤❤
I'm from a non english speaking background.
I love the harmony of this song but I didn't know what the song was about... until he few years ago !
A British female I was chatting with online asked me what I had been up to that afternoon.
I innocently replied :
"I enjoyed an afternoon delight with a friend"
I meant enjoy the beach and a swim in the ocean with my friend.
The British female then wrote back:
"That's disgusting, I'm not into that, goodbye"
Haha 😂😂😂
Fave ONE hit wonder - EVER.
I was 4 when that song came out
@kirstymclean854 I was older than you when this song came out I was 7
Sure does bring the memories back. Fabulous 👌
Wow
Good good music from my young years great stuff
Maravilloso video de un grupo Perfecto 👍
I love this song!
❤❤❤ seen this video at least 50 times ❤❤❤
When someone breaks out the 12 string, things get serious.
❤❤
How is it they only had one song? Did they anger someone, or were they unreliable? What happened to them?
@LKaramazov: They had another one called "Lovin' You With My Eyes". But after that, I think they broke up.
One hit wonders. It happens.
It was a HUGE #1 HIT!! They were nominated for four Grammy Awards in 1977 and won two: Best Arrangement for Voices and Best New Artist, the latter award over the group Boston.[4] The song was also in several films.
I see Margot sneaking glances to her right 🤔 she's gorgeous ❤
I hope y’all will reply to this The Starland Vocal Band had their own summer variety show one regular was a young unknown comic named David Letterman
A classic summer song with the gorgeous harmonies letting the listener float along. I never understood why a Rolling Stone poll voted this the 2nd worse song of the Seventies.Maybe if the Mamas and Pappas had done it 10 years before it would have been received differently..
I miss afternoon delight.
DAMN !!! I LOVE SOME MORNING, AFTERNOON, and EVENING DELIGHT WITH Margot Chapman
Taffy co wrote Take Me Home..
What was that round black thing that he pulled out from that bag?
I also hope y’all will reply to this with two couples the Starland Vocal Band reminds me of an American version of Abba
“Team Margot” always and forever……..!!!!!
David LETTERMAN on the right?
Did you see John's face when that idiot Merve kept grabbing at it. He was like WTF?! He was trying to see if there was a record in there...and there was. 😂😂😂
😂😂😂 yes too funny JD's subtle wtf face is priceless haha
Although "Afternoon Delight" reached # 1 in Billboard's Hot 100, Starland Vocal Band became a one-hit-wonder; Later discs failed to make the Top 40. Starland Vocal Band was made up of rwo married couples. The band broke up in the eary 1980's when both couples divorced.
Margot Chapman was 1 cute lady
Merv playing dirty songs. 😉😉😉😉
Is there a more joyful song than this?
"Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night?" Um, because people have jobs?
😂😂😂
Margot's voice is a little too hot in the mix, probably because she was closer to her mic than the rest. Mix engineer should have caught it.
Still nice harmonies, though
these guys got ripped off by the label. they shared a $66k check. i wonder how much denver made?
The other singer looks like a Filipina.
Margot Chapman was born in Hawaii but yes seems and looks very filipina ...i can't find her ethnicity
@helisIoma
If from Hawaii, then perhaps Polynesian?
Great song, great vocal band. This is lip sync'd though.
Fabulous song with perfect harmonies, however I’ve always wondered why the came up with such a crappy band name.
Too fast
@barwick5466: Hmmm, to me it sounded like the same speed as the original studio version.
@@hehhehhuhhuh7014 Yes, it sounds like the original backing track but something is a little off. Maybe they’re going too fast
@@tommytwomommy They added a flute part to the chorus after they sing the words AFTERNOON DELIGHT. Maybe that is what you are hearing that is different.
I have heard them singing this song live many times (no lip syncing) and they sound absolutely amazing, most recently in a video from 2007.
So, I'm not sure why this particular performance is done to the original track.
I just played it side by side with the original and it's actually slightly slower. After awhile this one lags behind.
@@larry4111thank you. I knew the cadences didn’t sound right
Was hat Herr Deutschendorf daran verdient ?
I read about the history of this song, and literally this group was put together for this song and thats about it. lol
What was John Denver’s last hit?
A mountain
Margot Chapman is stunning
Margot Chapman has such a great voice. One of my very first crushes. Absolutely gorgeous!
