Olivia! ABC-TV Special with Andy Gibb & ABBA - Ultra Rare TRUE STEREO !
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 вер 2011
- ONE OF A KIND - FIRST GENERATION AUDIO. This is the concert segment IN TRUE STEREO from the 1978 special "Olivia!" Just prior to shooting this segment with a live orchestra, the audio guy asked if I would like a stereo feed of the sound. Of course I said yes and fed two three-quarter inch VCRs with the special feed. Stereo TV was not available widely until the mid-1980s. After completion of the special, I manually synced the 2" master of the show to my ¾" master and, viola, a stereo version of the concert with Andy Gibb, ABBA, and Olivia!
Shot just days before it aired, the ABC-TV special "Olivia!" was the marathon of all television specials I edited while in Hollywood. For 36 nonstop hours, director Steve Binder (my all time favorite) and the post-production crew dashed toward an unbelievable deadline and beat it. This is the entire concert segment. The air version begins at 3:01 and ends prior to "Thank you for the Music" (which was used for closing credits). Please select 480p and full screen (and don't forget headphones!); the quality is matchless!
Still listening in April 2024, anyone else???

No tattoos, no implants, no body piercings, no crummy attitudes, women with natural talent and beauty. Music industry in the sewer now.
Agree completely with your comment.
Yeah but you don’t know the skeletons they had in their closets. Comparison to others is a trap.
I for one am waiting for the asteroid to hit. 🥰🤪😅
Amen.
And also no autotune!
Truer words never said.❤❤❤
SEE? no autotune! live with an orchestra. They sounded just like the LPs they made. That is true true talent, no pretensions.
They are the best of the best! Too bad there aren't more artists like them!
The best thing about this is that they're all singing live.
There seem to be relatively few truly live abba television shows. This one is great though :)
@@NicholasAndre1right? I wish they had done more live shows. I'm glad Olivia was able to get together with them (and Andy Gibb of course). She and Abba were able to transition through the decades incredibly well.
For Abba it was just 70's into early 80's and their recent release, of course. Olivia, I think, had hits from the 60's to the 90's.
😂@@scootermom1791
ABBA, Andy Gibb and ONJ were the SUPERSTARS of the 70's.
To have them all together live with an orchestra in 1978 was a ONCE IN A BLUE MOON event.
This could only ever happen in Australia. Olivia, Andi Gibb, ABBA all in one place.
Well, no, since this was filmed in the US for Olivia's ABC prime time TV special. It was actually ABBA's first US prime time TV appearance.
@@havensmm9308yes!! You are correct!!

We can hear from this video that Olivia's voice was one of the most perfect singing voices ever. ABBA is right up there with her.
Absolutely agree 💯 %
I can never get enough of them!
This must be one of only a few TV shows with ABBA singing live vocals; it is precious indeed.
There's a few more if you look for em'! They pop up from time to time, The Dick Cavette Show is a famous one.
It’s the only live one I’ve seen, and the girls singing is perfect

Watching this 8/8/2022, the day Olivia left us. What a phenomenal show put on by all. So many memories flooding through my mind, rolling down my cheeks. This was my childhood. We had no idea the impact these artists would have, and the legacy they would leave for us all. So grateful to have grown up in the 70s! Rest easy Olivia. Say hey to Andy for us!

We are sure lucky to remember it!
Yes, as so did I, because I was born in 1970
I was born in 2003 and she was so popular back then and the day I first started watching grease I feel in love and I kept watching it the songs are amazing Olivia was beautiful John was so handsome they where a match made in heaven, I know I wasn’t born in her century but it doesn’t feel like I’ve known her for 19 years it feels like a life time and she’s going to be deeply missed ❤
Andy and Olivia RIP 💔 I can't believe they sang all together. I'm watching this video over and over, thank you for the music marvelous singers.

The amount of singing talent on this stage is unbelievable. Agnetha, Anni-Frid, and Andy are all incredible singers... but honestly, Olivia is just on another level. Unreal.
So glad I grew up in the 70s, this music defined my childhood.
Yes I was in elementary school in the 70s but I still remember some of the soft rock music my older brothers and sisters played on the radio
Same, brings back great memories as a teen in Australia in the 70’s
Повезло вам)))
Yes, and I yearn back to the end of the 70s. what great music.
Olivia remained an incredibly graceful, confident, sincere, genuine and humble human being throughout her entire life. Love you dearly!
Olivia sounds as good live as on the record. She was such a talent.
I saw this when it originally aired in 1978, and 44 years later, it still makes me smile. I have viewed this recording countless times since I discovered it on UA-cam a few months ago, but watching it on the day that she left us is so bittersweet. Rest In Peace, dear Olivia…you are a part of the soundtrack of my life. 😓
All the more interesting to see Olivia performing with Abba, when you recall she sang the UK entry in ESC 1974. She finished 4th. The 1974 ESC was won by the Swedish entry - Abba.
Nice.
Seeing this for the first time in the wake of the passing of ONJ. What a gorgeous medley, what a set of talent on stage at the same time. Good music never ages, good singers/musicians never die.
Yes we all are going to miss Olivia Newton John. She's incredible singer and actress
And to think she is hopeless devoted to me!!!
This makes me sad & happy at the same time. Olivia was literally an angel. So beautiful & what a voice. ABBA & Andy were magical as well. I wish they still did stuff like this. This was a real treat. Olivia will always be a part of my youth. I'm gonna be sad for a few days.

The majority of the vocal artists today don't hold a candle to the natural talent of ABBA, Olivia and Andy Gibb!

Era de ouro...quando a música era uma arte baseado no talento natural destas incríveis mulheres
It is all relative to the time you come from. People from the early 1900 would have found them indecent and underdressed. Imagine wearing a dress without a corset and wearing pants while swaying and singing on a stage, they would have thought of these women as prostitutes.
This section alone should have gotten this special an Emmy nomination. Live perfection from beginning to end. The 20 minutes flew by.
ua-cam.com/video/TDte5ImoOg4/v-deo.html it runned 3 times, this complete version actually has higher definition.
Absolutely agree with you. But ABBA never had “ street credit in America because the so called musical journalist just could t get their head around the enormous commercial success and artistic appeal of these four humble Swedes.
Even last year when they were nominated for their first Grammy after their release of their fantastic come back album Voyage after a 40 year hiatus -which itself is a historical feat- and bears the same name as their ground breaking ABBATar show - the New York Times critic called their music “ thin, thiin, thiin..
Which explains a lot about our musical tastes and standards.
In the days when you had to have genuine talent and a real love of your craft to succeed. If you were old enough to witness and appreciate these greats at that time - you were blessed.

Wow! Just came across this and thanks for bringing this 60 year old woman back to a age when life was so simple and music was pure talent.
As a former singer and performer, I have such deep respect and love for each of these singers. They were stunning and perfect!! It wasn’t just incredible voice and talent… it was how they could invoke the very best within our hearts and minds, without vulgar language, without hate and disrespect, without the need for “shock and awe”, and bring us together with deep resonating fun and unity. This was an era when musicians were truly larger than life because they earned it, pushed the very limits of what true talent can accomplish and create REAL stage magic. How I miss those days…
Absolutely
Agnetha and Frida seem exceptionally happy in this performance. I have seen some where they sing great but seem sad
I tried for so long to figure out how it all changed but I couldn't. I hardly listen to what passes as music today.
@ Buford T. Justice you are so very right! These people were and are true musicians who composed and interpreted some of the most beautiful music ever produced. There are some amazing new musicians nowadays, but they're obscure by the flashy garbage that the industry promotes for the sake of the mighty dollar. I'm a singer also, now in my 60's. I occasionally join in some local bands, but it was never my intention to be a headliner. I sing for me because I like it, just as I cook for me and friends. My professional career is far away from my art and culinary skills. It may sound selfish, but that's the way it is.
Thank you for such a thoughtful and heartfelt statement.

So great to see and hear a real live performance… No auto-tune! No backing tracks! Looking forward to when music comes full circle and we come back to these types of performances. Not only were the singers doing an amazing job, the orchestra were also great - and recreating live a sound on par with the recorded versions. Great work everyone…. (I believe our current performing arts community still have the capacity to create a live performance like this - we, the audience need to ask for it!)
Sem autotune, sem playback e sem nada superficial. Esses sim eram verdadeiros artistas. RIP Andy Gibb, RIP Olivia Newton John duas lendas insubstituíveis e viva a banda Abba! São músicas que nunca vou cansar de ver e ouvir!
These guys were all the real deal.
